Book Beginnings

“Are we almost there?” Lauren asked excitedly as the Porsche shifted gears to negotiate the increasing steepness of the mountain road. The highway they were on was one of the old two-laners, and together with dazzling mountain scenery and the verdant walls of tamaracks and pines that surrounded them, it seemed like a scene right out of a picture postcard.

Blog Ahead Challenges for March 2017

I really need more motivation, so these challenges are fantastic.

Why not join in?

Mini Blog Ahead #1: March 1st-15th

Dates: March 1- March 15

Goal: Schedule an additional 15 posts during the challenge.

On Day 1 of the challenge look at your number of scheduled posts. Add 15 to that. That is the number of scheduled posts you should have finished at the end of the challenge.

Any type of post counts! It just has to be a completed post.

The only stipulation is it must go live AFTER the challenge ends in order to count.

I got very behind at the end of last year and am still trying to ‘ketchup’.

I began this challenge with 4 Posts already scheduled.

My goal is a minimum of 19 posts.

I ended up with 33 post minus the 4 I originally had, so I was ahead 29 posts.

Yeah! Now to keep ahead.

~~~~~~
Mini Blog Ahead #2: June 15-30
Blog Ahead: October
.
I am really excited to participate. It really helped me last year and I just wish I would have kept up with it.
What do you think?
Amazon Goodreads
The Perfect Tear
by Connie Lansberg
Genre: YA Fantasy
Release Date: November 11th 2015
Eleanor, a timid orphan, is a Singer. Her songs keep nature in balance, but when they are stolen from her the grey mist descends, and her world fails to thrive. This timid orphan is forced into a course of action she never asked for, nor envisioned.
Eleanor grapples with crippling self-doubt and fear until she learns these are far more perilous than the physical dangers she faces moment to moment on her terrifying, puzzling and often funny search for The Perfect Tear, a crystal which contains the Third Vibration and able to heal the land. She is horrified to discover that she must defeat an inter-dimensional being or become his accomplice in the destruction of she loves.
But Eleanor is no savior, just a simple girl with strong instincts and she must learn to trust them. Just like the notes of a song must form connections to create a melody, Eleanor must discover the connections needed to create the harmony required to truly save her world.
About the Author
Connie Lansberg is a singer/songwriter and now author based in Melbourne Australia. She’s had her original songs placed in some of Australia’s best loved TV shows that play around the world and The Connie Lansberg Quartet is a fixture in the Melbourne jazz scene. Her most recent original musical project is Tsera’s Gift, written especially for The Perfect Tear and she performs these songs throughout Melbourne. This is Connie’s first novel and the movie is coming. The record will be out soon.
Connie has received several grants from the Victoria Council of the Arts for the development of mobile phone games that she created.
Connie joined the Melbourne Writers Group in 2010 to work on ideas and scripts and during this time the idea for The Perfect Tear began to develop and take shape. She continued her education by taking scriptwriting classes at the Australian Film and Television School in Melbourne. She has two more stories to complete The Perfect Tear Trilogy and is hoping to have the second book finished in 2017.
“The first thing anybody tells you about this business is to say what makes you unique and different, but I couldn’t and the very idea of it never sat well with me and after much deliberation, I finally realized why.
Because, I’m not unique or different-I’m exactly like you and I love that. We each have a unique filter through which we interpret the world, and with this filter in place, I write stories and songs and you might find them surprising or intriguing or confronting, you may relate or you may not. They may make you laugh and sometimes, even cry.
You may or may not understand what I’m trying to say and you may not understand me, however, rest assured, once we get past the filters, at our core, we are wonderfully and beautifully, exactly the same.”
Cozy Mystery – Elementary She Read by Vicki Delany @vickidelany @dollycas
Elementary She Read by Vicki Delany
I love cozies and Sherlock Holmes, so this seemed like a no brainer. 🙂
Elementary, She Read: A Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery
by Vicki Delany
Cozy Mystery
1st in Series
Publisher: Crooked Lane Books (March 14, 2017)
Hardcover: 320 pages
ISBN-13: 978-1683310969
Kindle ASIN: B01MT6H7O1
Gemma Doyle, a transplanted Englishwoman, has returned to the quaint town of West London on Cape Cod to manage her Great Uncle Arthur’s Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and Emporium. The shop–located at 222 Baker Street–specializes in the Holmes canon and pastiche, and is also the home of Moriarty the cat. When Gemma finds a rare and potentially valuable magazine containing the first Sherlock Homes story hidden in the bookshop, she and her friend Jayne (who runs the adjoining Mrs. Hudson’s Tea Room) set off to find the owner, only to stumble upon a dead body.
The highly perceptive Gemma is the police’s first suspect, so she puts her consummate powers of deduction to work to clear her name, investigating a handsome rare books expert, the dead woman’s suspiciously unmoved son, and a whole family of greedy characters desperate to cash in on their inheritance. But when Gemma and Jayne accidentally place themselves at a second murder scene, it’s a race to uncover the truth before the detectives lock them up for good.
Giveaway – Nate Temple Chronicles by Shayne Silvers @ShayneSilvers @SilverDaggerSxx
Obsidian Son
The Nate Temple Chronicles Book 1
By Shayne Silvers
Genre: Supernatural Thriller
A city that doesn’t believe in magic. Bloodthirsty weredragons. Good
thing this reckless playboy has superpowers…
It’s been said that monsters cry when a good man goes to war. But they
should run screaming like little school girls when that man is
secretly a wizard, and maybe not necessarily good…
Nate Temple’s all-consuming quest to avenge his parents is temporarily
put on hold when shape-shifting dragons invade St. Louis. And perhaps
cow-tipping the Minotaur for answers might not have been Nate’s
smartest opening move, because now every flavor of supernatural thug
from our childhood nightmares is gunning for him. Nate learns that
the only way to save his city from these creatures is to murder his
best friend…
Nate’s choice will throw the world and his own conscience into cataclysmic
chaos: avenge his parents or become a murderer to save his city.
Because to do either, he’s going to have to show the world that
magic is very, very real, and that monsters are very, very hungry…
To survive, he might just need to take a page from the book, How to
Win Friends and Influence Monsters.
If you like Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, or Patrick Rothfuss, you will
LOVE the first installment of The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller
series.
Blood Debts
The Nate Temple Chronicles Book 2
A Wizard, an Angel, and a Horseman of the Apocalypse walk into a bar…
The ancient pact between mankind, Heaven, and Hell has been broken. And
this upstart wizard’s quest for vengeance may have just kicked off
Armageddon. So, time for a drink… or maybe two.
Already plagued with sinister night terrors that could qualify him as a
card-carrying psychopathic insomniac, Nate can barely even manage to
put his pants on in the morning, let alone pick teams for the
Apocalypse.
But when he’s framed as a demon sympathizer, condemned by the Armies of
Heaven, and hunted down by both his allies and the Four Horsemen,
this wizard doesn’t think it can get any worse…
Then they take away his magic. And a wizard without magic stands no chance
against the forces of Heaven and Hell…
Grimm
The Nate Temple Chronicles Book 3
The Brothers Grimm – legendary supernatural assassins – have escaped
their prison, and their first day in St. Louis could be Nate Temple’s
last…
Sharing a beer with Death – one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse –
really put a few things into perspective for this foul-mouthed,
billionaire wizard. Like finally strapping on the boots to propose to
his girlfriend.
But assassination contracts have a way of putting wedding plans on hold.
Perhaps permanently. And with the entire wedding party on the
bloodthirsty Grimm’s hit-list, and his family fortune in jeopardy,
Nate realizes they can’t run and they can’t hide. So, time to do
magic and stuff…
But with every flavor of supernatural thug teaming up to help the Grimms,
Nate realizes that friends have become enemies and enemies have
become friends, and he’s forced to cross lines that are better left
uncrossed.
When magic, claws, and teeth dance to the song of war, the only thing left
to learn is who lives and who dies. And if Nate can live with the
consequences.
No wonder a guy is terrified to propose…
Silver Tongue
The Nate Temple Chronicles Book 4
My resume is pretty full: I’ve cow-tipped the Minotaur, decimated a
gang of weredragons, sucker-punched an Angel, and eaten pancakes with
the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse…
I’ve kidnapped one of the most powerful wizards on the planet, and
slaughtered the Brothers Grimm. I’m kind of a big deal.
But I never thought I’d find myself at a crossroads, a pawn in a deadly
game that I hadn’t known existed, willing to sell my soul to save
the life of someone I loved… That’s when I learned true fear,
because the world I thought I knew was all just smoke and mirrors,
and I was just a puppy playing amongst wolves…
Beast Master
The NateTemple Chronicles Book 5
What do you do for Thanksgiving Dinner when your guests are Death, an
Angel, and a slew of other monsters? You have a nerf gun war, of
course… But the Queens of Fae want to crash his party. And the
Beast Master is abducting shifter children for a Monster Circus.
Thanksgiving Dinner plans with Death, an Angel, a vampire, Achilles, and a slew of
other monsters are cut short because a Monster Circus has come to
town. And the Beast Master needs new Monsters for his show…
But the Queens of Fae also want a little deep-fried wizard for the
holidays.
Oh, and Nate is losing that last finger-hold on his
sanity: hallucinating, and talking to creatures that no one else can
see. The ancient demon inside of him is getting stronger, fighting
for dominance, and only one of them can survive.
But when a wizard curses Nate, extorting him to rescue a lethal Chimera child
from the Beast Master’s Circus, Nate’s only option is to partner
with his inner demon, risking his very soul. But his friends begin to
doubt and fear this new, darker Nate, taking matters into their own
hands – even when that means standing against him.
With allies turned enemies, the Fae breathing down his neck, and a
dangerous child’s life on the line, Nate must call upon, bully, and
coerce new storybook legends and gods to save his traitorous friends
from becoming the Beast Master’s next victims…
Discover what – if anything – Nate is willing to sacrifice to save the
friends who betrayed him…
Shayne is a man of mystery and power, whose power is exceeded only by his
mystery. In other words, a storyteller.
He currently writes the Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series, which
features a foul-mouthed young wizard with a chip on his shoulder
attempting to protect St. Louis from the various nasties we all know
and fear from our childhood bedtime stories. Nate’s been known to
suckerpunch an Angel, cow-tip the Minotaur, and steal Death’s horse
in order to prove his point. His utter disregard for consequences and
self-preservation will have you laughing and cringing on the edge of
your seat.
Shayne holds two high-ranking black belts, and enjoys conversing about
anything Marvel, Magical, or Mythological. You might find him writing
in a coffee shop near you, cackling madly into his computer screen
while pounding shots of espresso.
REVIEW
To see my full review, go HERE, but I will give you a taste…
I felt such tension, suspense, fear and dread for the characters, that I was talking to them. Shouting at them. Telling them to watch out. He’s coming.
I had thought A Human Element was paranormal, but it is so much more. They come from another place. A place out of this world.
I never saw the ending coming. Fantastic. I kept trying to figure it out and felt tortured and pained as I raced through the pages – I HAVE to know – now!
I am sitting here, finished, looking at nothing, in complete disbelief. Awesome! Donna Galanti’s imagination knows no bounds.
 EXCERPT
The man could hear the child’s bellowing cries coming from underneath the blanket covering it. She pushed the child into his arms as if eager to be rid of it. He took the bundle and handed the nurse his packages. The nurse began to close the door when he heard another far away cry.
The man wedged his foot in the door. “What was that?”
“N-Nothing.” The nurse looked up.
The man risked looking her in the eye.
“The girl is in pain and won’t keep quiet.” She clutched the envelope and folded her arms across her sagging bosom.
“It sounded like another baby,” he said.
“It’s just the whimpering slut. Now she’s paid double for what she’s done.” The nurse took a step back as if aware she had said too much already. She glared at him. “Now go on. You have what you wanted. And so do I.” She shut the door in his face.
The man in black stood there for a long moment, considering the woman’s choice of words. What if another child had been delivered and the frigid woman and country doctor kept it secret?
Fascinating.
He decided to keep this information to himself. He would find the opportune time to use it. He was a patient man. But first, he had to see for himself. He peeled back the child’s bunting and looked for the first time into its yellow eyes. For that moment, the baby fell silent.
“Welcome to Earth X-10.”
The baby resumed its wailing.
The man turned with his noisy package and melted into the darkness satisfied, as the doctor had been, that the night’s events had provided him with more than he had asked for.
Review – Onyx Webb by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz @OnyxWebb
Onyx Webb by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz is a combination of genres that’s filled with hours of captivating reading, and plenty of thrills and chills.
I LOVE this fabulous cover that makes me shiver and cringe in anticipation of the horrors between the pages.
Onyx Webb: Book Four: Episodes 10, 11, 12Amazon  /  Goodreads
MY REVIEW
Onxy Webb is filled with death, murder, horror, ghosts, and lots of suspense and evil…
So beware. Check your Karma and see if you dare to enter, because your actions can have repercussions far beyond your wildest imagination.
Onyx Webb is a fabulous, mystical character that keeps surprising those around her and rightly so in my book. She is complex and misunderstood, and so not deserving of what is happening. I love that she takes her ‘life’ into her own hands, not leaving her fate up to others to decide.
Many of the characters are good ‘people’. Sometimes it was hard to know who was human and who was a ghost and I loved the surprise of learning who was who, or what.
I try to be alert, waiting for the next shoe to drop, the next accident to happen, the next person to die.
The tension and suspense is stretched, keeping me waiting, anticipating, fearing for my favorite characters.
Be careful how much of your heart you give to these characters, because some may not survive. I love when the author is not afraid to kill someone off, regardless of whether I like it or not.
What’s going to happen next and who is responsible? Many lives are tainted by the evil that touches them. Of course, there are those whose misfortunes I revel in as they get their just desserts.
Onyx Webb keeps pulling on me, drawing me in deeper and deeper as I struggle to accept the tragedies heaped on the characters. There is so much going on, so many characters and so much action, that the story calls to me, demanding I read on, read more, and more.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of Onyx Webb:  Book IV by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz.
Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos 4 Stars
GOODREADS BLURB
A multi-genre mash-up that combines elements of supernatural suspense, crime, horror, romance, and more.
The Onyx Webb series follows the unusual life of Onyx Webb along with a central group of characters in various locations and times. The billionaire Mulvaney family, piano prodigy Juniper Cole and her brother Quinn, paranormal show hosts Cryer and Fudge, and a few others make up the core of the series. Written like a book version of a supernatural soap opera, each character’s story moves forward with most every episode. It may appear that the characters are entirely unrelated and yet episode by episode, the connections will become clearer. Like being an inch away from a spider web, with each book, the web will move further and further away revealing the full story of every character and most importantly, the stunning conclusion for Onyx Webb herself.
About Andrea Waltz and Richard FentonOnyx Webb Book Three by Andrea Waltz and Richard Fenton
Their favorite genres are suspense, thriller, crime and anything of a paranormal nature which is how Onyx Webb turned into a mash-up of all their favorites!
Sherry’s Shelves #113 is my weekly update from March 12 – March 18, 2017.
Sunday Post #201 Countdown to Spring..
Stacking The Shelves {200}
~~~

Hello fellow bloggers. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

The weather has been so weird, here and everywhere. Right now, the sun is shining and feels warm when I am in it, but the temps are in the 40s and I am not very happy about that. I am eager to be playing outside in my shorts and flip flops.

I sure do not miss this!

This photo was taken at our house in Rochester, New York.

Our goal was ten years and out and we made it. We lived in Rochester from 1997 to 2008.

I enjoyed my time there, but the sunny skies of Florida called to me.

Where would you live, if you could live anywhere in the world?

He’s Very, Very Hungry – Carnivore by Leigh Clark #LeighClark

I borrowed Carnivore by Leigh Clark from my sister, Laura, at fuonlyknew.

We both love creature features and will drop everything to read one.

Here’s a tease for you:

“This isn’t going to work out the way you think!”

MY ONE SENTENCE REVIEW

As the death count rises, with body parts, and blood and guts flying, this creature feature shows no mercy to anyone for their arrogance and overstepping their bounds with this TRex.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos  4 Stars

GOODREADS BLURB

In an Antarctic research outpost, a group of scientists made a discovery. For the first time, modern man would come face-to-face with the ruler of the prehistoric world, the king of the dinosaurs–the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Blinded by scientific zeal, the researchers thought only of the importance of their find, the contribution to science. But soon they are forced to open their eyes to an inescapable fact–once revived, the specimen would need to feed.
