Teaser Tuesday #19 – Remains of Innocence by J A Jance

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page.
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

REMAINS OF INNOCENCE by J A Jance

I have read numerous books by J A Jance, so when I found the opportunity to read and review Remains of Innocence, I jumped at it.

I will be reviewing this on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, so be sure and check back.

MY TEASE

(page 120 of ARC paperback)

“You don’t think Junior is responsible for what happened to the cat, do you?” Jamie asked.

“No, I don’t,” Joanna said, “and I’m beginning to think he didn’t kill himself either, accidentally or otherwise.” She paused and then asked, “What kind o people start their journey to the dark side by torturing animals?”

“Serial killers,” Jamie answered at once.

SYNOPSIS

Sheriff Joanna Brady must solve two perplexing cases that may be tied together in New York Times bestselling author J. A. Jance’s thrilling tale of suspense that brings to life Arizona’s Cochise County and the desert Southwest in all its beauty and mystery.

An old woman, a hoarder, is dying of emphysema in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. In cleaning out her house, her daughter, Liza Machett, discovers a fortune in hundred dollar bills hidden in the tall stacks of books and magazines that crowd every corner.

Tracing the money’s origins will take Liza on a journey that will end in Cochise County, where Sheriff Joanna Brady is embroiled in a personal mystery of her own. A man she considers a family friend is found dead at the bottom of a hole in a limestone cavern near Bisbee. And now there is the mystery of Liza and the money. Are the two disparate cases connected? It’s up to Joanna to find out.

  1. Hi Sherry,

Thanks for stopping by Fiction Books today. I love ‘meeting’ new people, so your visits will always be valued and your comments always appreciated.

Murder/mystery – suspense/thriller, are probably my most favourite of the genres, although I do have pretty eclectic reading tastes and will try just about anything that comes my way!

Jance is an author I hadn’t come across before I began blogging and is someone I have now had on my reading list for quite some time, although I have yet to actually read any of the books.

I am wondering just what happened to the cat, it sounds as though it might be something quite gruesome and I guess that murder is more than likely on the cards, rather than suicide, for Junior ….. This one is definitely right up my street, so thanks for sharing.

    Yvonne

    • Fantastic Yvonne. It is very nice meeting you too and the poor kitty was treated very badly. I haven’t found out yet who’s gonna pay, but I think I know. Suspense/thrillers are my favorites too. Like you, I will read almost anything. I don’t want to miss that hidden gem by limiting myself. ^_^ I am familiar with Jance from my weekly library visits. Thanks so much for stopping in and I look forward to “talking”.

    • I love it too. What luck to open the book and it stops there. It made me curious. LOL thanks for stopping in and commenting. Be seeing you. ^_^

    • I love this book for all the reasons you just mentioned. I too have watched the shows and am happy I don’t know anyone like that. Thanks for stopping in. ^_^

    • I have read numerous novels by Jance and loved them all. The Joanna Brady character grows and develops through the novels and has become a favorite of mine.

    • I’m not done yet, but loving it so far. For sure worth a read, especially if you love suspense/thrillers.

    • My pleasure. It’s fun to see what others are reading. I never know when I will come across a great book.

  2. What happened to the cat? :O
Anyway, it’s a good teaser & hope you’re enjoying it! Can’t wait to read your review 🙂

    • Oh man, it’s not good, but there is a bright side for the kitty. I am loving it. Thanks for stopping in and commenting.
