Friday 56 #38 & Book Beginnings #15 ~ Ashlynn’s Dreams by Julie C Gilbert

Welcome everyone and I hope you are keeping warm. Mr Wonderful and I posed for this photo in front of our warm and cozy cape cod style home in Rochester, New York. We lived there for ten years. Within a month of moving to Rochester in 1998, they had a blizzard that shut down the town and the national guard was called in. I was not a stranger to snow and ice and it was fun…for a while. Then I remembered why I moved away. Our goal was ten years and back to the sunny climate of the south. We made it!

Today, here in Florida, we are having sunny skies and the temp is supposed to go up to the high 60s.

The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice. The only rules are to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your ereader and find any sentence or a few ( no spoilers) that grabs you and post it.

Please join Rose City Reader every Friday to share the first sentence or so of the book you are reading along with you initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

Please include the title of the book and the author’s name.

“Jillian! What are you doing here? Am I asleep?”

(Book Beginnings).

The synopsis is the first paragraph of the book, so here is an additional little tease.

Then, it turned out to be true. Looking back with wiser eyes now, my family and I concluded that the events leading up to my transformation started the summer I turned nine.

SYNOPSIS

Before she was kidnapped, Jillian Marie Antel Blairington was just an average bright, brave, headstrong child. She was excited for life in a new house with her Momma and new Daddy. Afterward, she’s all that … and so much more. Held in a scientific facility, Jillian discovers her past-a family she never knew and a power she doesn’t understand. With her ability now activated, she can enter and even shape a person’s dreams. Jillian’s been kidnapped, and her Gift has been triggered, so she can locate and save Benjamin Connelly, a brother she never even knew she had. She’d better master this strange ability quickly, though, because her life isn’t the only one at stake. Her babysitter, Danielle Matheson, is being held as a hostage to ensure Jillian’s full cooperation. Slowly, Jillian begins to learn more about her captor and the other genetically altered children held at the facility.

Join Jillian as she tries to survive the training being forced upon her, find her unknown brother, escape with Danielle, and work her way back to a normal life once more.

    • For sure!!! I am with you all the way, Jennifer. Hope you have a wonderful weekend and sunny skies. 🙂

    • Ashlynn’s Dreams went in a direction I did not anticipate when I began the book, which only made the reading experience better. There is a lot more to this story than a kidnapping. Thanks for stopping in and have a good weekend, Laurel.

    • Hi Breana, I love sharing something new. I try to mix up my genres. If I read too many of one kind in a row, they blend together and I don’t seem to enjoy them as much. I have also found that I am loving books that I never would have read before. Happy reading.

  1. I’ve never lived anywhere where it snowed annually. I’m not sure I could handle it to be honest. I love books about dreams, especially dream manipulation. I just find that fascinating. Happy reading!

    • Hi Alicia. I have lived in Michigan and New York. Loved it, but don’t miss the ice and snow, even though it is pretty to look at. Nice to see you and have a great weekend.

    • Brrr. I don’t miss it. Today, sun is shining and it will be in the 60s. I did enjoy the book and will tell you about it soon. Have a great weekend, Bea and thanks for stopping in.

  2. That’s a great photo. We lived in Florida for quite a long time, and one thing I missed was autumn. But I did NOT miss snow!
Ashlynn’s Dreams sounds like a fascinating book.
Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment.

    • Thanks, Sandra. I love Florida, but I would still like to move further south. Is there anywhere that has 80 degree weather year round? I want to be there. I love the cover of this book and enjoyed reading it.

  3. We’re not quite that warm but it’s above freezing so I’m good. No part of me is designed to deal with that kind of snow! This sounds like an interesting read! I haven’t come across it before but I’ll have to look for it.

    • LOL. I do not miss shoveling and heavy clothes, though I did bundle up for a Mardi Gras parade last night. It’s all about layers down here so you can take them off when you get too warm. So…let the good times roll.

  4. I’m intrigued by the book and I didn’t think I would be when I saw the cover.
Glad you got out of snowpocalypsia, I’m sadly still stuck in it. Figuratively though, thankfully.
    Happy weekend!

    • Glad you took the time to check it out further, Freda. Sometimes covers don’t do their story justice. Funny…snowpocalypsia. That’s great. LOL

  5. I just downloaded this one on my kindle 🙂 but i don’t know yet when I can start reading this..

Have a good day and thank you for dropping by on my blog 🙂

    • I am happy to drop by your blog and see what you are sharing. I’m glad you found Ashlynn’s Dreams interesting and hope you enjoy it. Happy reading.

  6. Ha ha ha love your picture! It’s genius! I wish we had snow, we’ve been basking in nothing but spring-like weather here in California, and it’s the winter season still!

I really do love the cover art to this book. It has a sort of comic book feel to it – which I love! I’m looking into it right now! Thanks for sharing!

    • I was trying to figure out a way to describe the cover and you hit the nail on the head. Perfect description. Thanks for the comment on the pic. Hubby and I both like to shoot. Nice of you to drop in and happy reading.

  7. Oh my gosh look at all that snow. I couldn’t imagine ever living in it, I’m in Australia. But I do understand why you’d move away from a place that gets that much of it.
I hope you’re enjoying your book.

    • It’s pretty to look at, but I don’t want to be in it any more. LOL Thanks for stopping by Sharon and have a great day.
