Sherry’s Shelves – 9.4 – 9.10.22

Hi Everyone. I had a good week. We did some yardwork and I am happy the way it turned out. We’ll get a few more bags at our next hardware store stop. I plan on going further to the left, but, for now, my goal was getting rid of the prickly vines and plants around the faucet and electrical outlet.

It took us three days and some pool time to do the yardwork. It’s still pretty hot and we don’t overwork ourselves any more. That is one of the benefits of being retired. We have all day every day…But things are so much harder to do. Thank goodness for an easy cool down.

We made a trip to the beach for the Blue Angels practice.

All these days outside have set my allergies off, so today will be all about football.

Stay safe.

We started out December with a couple quickie road trips and a family visit to Birmingham, Alabama. BUT the highlight was Orlando and the Citrus Bowl. It’s not very often Michigan plays Alabama and it has been since 1997, the Outback Bowl in Tampa, that we have battled. Alabama edged us out, 17 -14. We never made it to the Orange Bowl in 2000, where Michigan beat Alabama, 35 – 34, in an overtime showdown or their first meeting was in 1987, where we won 28 – 24. So, 2 out of 4 games ain’t bad. 🙂

Sherry’s Shelves #195 is my weekly update from 9.15.19 – 9.21.19.

LATEST HAPPENINGS

Hello fellow bloggers. I hope you have all had a great week, filled with family, fun and a lot of great books. It’s been a while and I just returned from a vacation to the north. We spent ten wonderful days touring and visiting friends and family in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Boston and Cape Cod. You can see the pictorial tour HERE.

I did a lot of binge reading while traveling. Does anyone else hate to fly?

The weather here in the Florida Panhandle is still warm and sunny and I am lovin’ every minute of it. It was twenty degrees cooler during the day and even more at night up there. For the first time in a long time, we got rained out one day. We still toured around, but I shot all my photographs from the dryness of the car that day. Have I turned into a wuss? LOL

I have some great giveaways going on and a few reviews to share, so feel free to browse to your heart’s content.

My Adventures – Pictorial Visit To Connecticut, Boston and Cape Cod #CapeCod #BostonRedSox

First…I start out with a plan…We have more than a thousand photographs between us, Mr Wonderful and I. We shot with our phones and numerous cameras. I chose some of the highlights…and I have a headache trying to choose which to use. I hope you enjoy them.

I give up. No matter what I do, I can’t get the photograph to show properly, though it does in draft. I resized, cropped, changed the size, but the darn thing refuses to listen to me. LOL
Traveling…and I hate flying!
Image may contain: 2 people
We went from the airport to the Boston Red Sox Game.

Friday, Mr Wonderful went golfing with his brother and I hung around the house, binge reading….the Twilight series. It was nice to sit and relax by myself, getting ready for the upcoming whirlwind tour.

Saturday we went to another Boston Red Sox baseball game with Mr Wonderful’s brother, who is an avid fan and his wife…who, at the moment, is missing in action. LOL

Sunday we went fishing in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island with a good friend of our.

The Cape Cottage

Monday we headed to the Cape and treated Mr Wonderful’s parent to a 61st anniversary dinner.

Tuesday Mr Wonderful went by himself to play golf. Because of my arm injury I am still unable to play, so I stayed with his parents and brother and sister in law. Then I went for a walk on the beach.

Found some sea glass and shells for my collection.
Cape Cod’s low tide is .24 feet and goes to a high tide of 3.31 feet. I didn’t stay at the beach for dead low, but most of the water you see in the photograph will be gone and the bottom of Cape Cod Bay will be visible and people often walk out so far they get caught when the tide comes rushing back in.
My first Cape Cod sunset in 11 years. I was very fortunate to be alone and enjoyed the peace and quiet, before the weekend comes. Even though it’s off season, there is a big, men only, golf tournament coming up this weekend and the place will be flooded with renters.

Wednesday, Mr Wonderful took his mother to LL Bean in Mashpee to do some shopping. He’s such a good son. I spent some time reading and blogging. They came home with some lobsters and feasted. Me, I have an allergy to shellfish, so I had a couple of sliders. MMMMMMM!

Image may contain: Eric Fundin, smiling, food, closeup and indoor
Image may contain: 2 people, including Carolyn Fundin, people eating, people sitting, table, stripes, food and indoor
Every sunset is different, but unfortunately we had a lot of cloud cover.

Thursday was a beautiful day, but we got a late start, so we jumped in and out of the car shooting some photos and racing to the next place. We knew rain was coming in and wanted to get in as much ‘sun” time as possible.

Image may contain: shoes and outdoor
This is one of the few times we did not go whale watching. Each tour is a unique experience and I was sorry we didn’t have time.
One of the first places we hit is Chatham Lighthouse.
Fishing boat coming in to offload its catch at Chatham Fish Pier.
This is the first time I saw shark warning signs, but because of the huge rebound in the seal population, Great Whites like to visit for a yummy meal.
A few seals hang out for a free meal
Another anniversary dinner, this time with all the crew and on their actual anniversay day.

Friday, unfortunately was rainy and cool (I hate being cold). I spent most of the time shooting from the car. 🙁 We hit all of our must haves.

Pilgrims Monument in Provincetown. I love this place, but it was pouring rain, so I didn’t shoot as many photographs as I would have liked.
Image may contain: 2 people, tree, plant and outdoor
Image may contain: 1 person, sky, tree, plant, outdoor and nature

I have spent many hours on this front porch, though not so much this time.
I’ve also spent many hours at the Sunset House shooting phtographs.
Image may contain: ocean, sky, outdoor, water and nature
Image may contain: Eric Fundin, smiling, ocean, outdoor, water and nature
A big thumbs up!
Hope you enjoyed the adventure.

My Adventures – 2016 Spring Break

Spring Break 2016 has begun. Mr Wonderful works for a state college, so he has a week off for Spring Break. Hmmm…what will we do to entertain ourselves?

Spring Break is a sign…a sign that summer is just around the corner and our spring break started off with a bang. A thunderstorm arrived and while the wind blew and the rain came down, a rainbow appeared. It spanned my backyard and seeing that it is right after St Patrick’s Day, I wondered if the leprechauns were looking down on us, rewarding us for our love of our little piece of paradise. Alas, I found no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

rainbow copyright

As I looked out the front door, our azaleas are a riot of color and I marvel at their beauty. I love that I get so much enjoyment from something so simple as the flowers in my yard… Some yard work is on the honey do list, but so is some fun.

Pensacola is the home of the Blue Angels and we went downtown to welcome them home on Monday. I never tire of their aerial display and we were not the only ones to herald their return.

If you would like to check out more videos of our adventures, go HERE.

On Tuesday, the sun was shining and we knew rain was coming, so it seemed like a great time to head to the golf course for a round. I love to play and even a bad day at golf is better than a day at work…or working around the house. That will still be there tomorrow and I’ll get to it then.

Mr Wonderful had a busy day of his own on Wednesday, with errands to run and a cloudy sky, I passed on the Blue Angels practice that he went to and I cleared some email…a lot of email and wrote a couple of posts and reviews for next month. With spring, comes baseball season and Mr Wonderful was training his fill in guy for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. He does a lot of games, but all work and no play makes him a dull boy.

Thursday…we expected a thunderstorm, so we knocked off a big to do job on the list. I had let the edging around the driveway get away from me, so I need to call in the big guns. That means my baby rototiller/edger and electric trimmer just won’t get the job done. But Mr Wonderful’s gas powered monster did a great job. As I sit here writing this, I hear the rumble of thunder, see the flash of lightning and marvel at the pouring rain. I enjoy a good storm every now and then. It washes the air clean, gets rid of the mess in my driveway from trimming and rids of the trees of the last of the dead leaves, allowing the new spring growth to thrive, but now there are seeds to add to the mix.

This time of year I spend a lot of time cleaning the pool. I have never seen as much pollen as I have this season and have battled it since early February, a small price to pay for a warm winter. I am out there every day, skimming and sucking up the leaves as I watch the temperature rise and the water call out to me. It’s looking good to me now.

Sunrise steam rising on pool

I love it when the air is cooler than the water and the sprites dance on the surface. So calm and inviting that it is time to jump in, relax for the rest of the week and prepare for our next adventure. Hope you will join me.

My Adventures – 2016 St Patty’s Road Trip

Mr Wonderful and I were off on our 2016 St Patty’s Road Trip, heading to New Orleans and Louisiana, for the St Patty’s Parade in Metarie.

This time, I was on my toes and as we passed the lot for movie props, I was able to get a few shots out the car window. It’s not every day I see a UFO and the odd assortment of vehicles, from buses to police cars.

2016-03-13 11.11.16-1We lived in Mobile, Alabama, back in the 90’s and Mr Wonderful belonged to a Mardi Gras association, the Pharoahs. We would jump on a bus and a bunch of us would head to New Orleans for the St Patty’s Parade, so we are familiar with the event. But it is New Orleans, so you never know what you might come across…

It starts out with walking groups. This parade is different from all the Mardi Gras parades. They allow you to walk in the street and approach the guys with flowers and beads, trading a smooch for a trinket…

2016-03-13 14.20.40The day was gorgeous, blue skies, lots of sunshine, floats and beads. The St Patty’s parade also differs from Mardi Gras parades by the stuff they toss. It’s not just beads and toys, but vegetables, everything you need for an Irish stew except for the meat. They toss heads of cabbage, onions, carrots and lemons. Ya gotta keep your eyes peeled because they can take you out.

biloxi31616

The parade goes on for hours and after five of them, we were ready to move on, so it was off to Biloxi. We did some sight seeing, heading to the Pass Christian area, driving the coastline. It was windy and the sand drifted and piled up like the snow up north. The Gulf Coast area has still not completely recovered from Hurricane Ivan and Hurricane Katrina and I myself doubt if some of the people will ever come back. Me…I just cannot stay away.

biloxi316162I mean…look at that view. Even on a bad day, the sun shines through the clouds. Good food, good views and good company. So, if you are ever in the area, stop by for a cocktail at the beach. You won’t regret it.

My Adventures – Sum, Sum Summer Time

Sum, Sum, Summer Time and all is good on the Gulf Coast!

Another fun week has come and gone.

We started playing golf in the sunshine and continued through the rain. It heated up big time and we felt like we were in a sauna. We hacked our way through the course, sometimes our shots would shine as bright as the sun, but other times, not so much. 😆

golf 7312015

We enjoy the outdoors and the blue waters of the pool call to us often.

thumbs up in the pool

We took a road trip to Biloxi, Mississippi.

road trip

It’s just a hop, skip and a jump to the jingling and jangling of the casino. My mom, Mr Wonderful and I get an itch every once in a while that only a one armed bandit can scratch. Here’s a view from the window at Harrah’s, a great place to stay.

pool at harrahs

The saying, “There’s no place like home” is so true.

While we were gone, this monstrous THING appeared. 😮
