MY REVIEW

Dinosaur Lake IV by Kathryn Meyer Griffith is the finale for this awesome horror series and I was soooo curious to see how she would wrap it up. Needless to say, Dino IV is every bit as good as the first book and if you are a creature feature fan, like I am, this is a must have for your reading shelf.

Life had changed since the dinosaurs came…and never left. How can humans coexist with such dangerous creatures?

Seven years…and we are at ground zero.

I was only 5% in and felt like we had lost already, but…

It’s winter and the dinosaurs are at bay. I know they won’t stay that way.

Imagine, a world devoid of life, no birds chirping, no wolves howling, no deer snorting in the wilderness park…just silence.

We are back with some familiar characters, and seeing Kathryn is not afraid to kill them off, I wonder who will be left standing at the end.

Defense, everything is about defense. Living on the front lines, driving around in tanks, always armed, the threat of attack always there. It is war.

Man, oh man. Kathryn Meyer Griffith sure can write. I already knew it, but her writing is filled with so much action and suspense, danger and death, that it invokes feelings of sorrow, I have tears in my eyes, yet I am filled with rage. I am amazed, over and over again, at her ability to spin a tale that leaves me breathless. Her stories are filled with so much creativity and originality, I hate to reach the end.

The suspense and tension filled pages made me read until the wee hours of the morning, unable to stop until the last page was read.

I was super curious how Kathryn would wrap up the series and I think she did a fabulous job! I wonder, though…

GOODREADS BLURB

For seven long years Chief Park Ranger Henry Shore has been dealing with and fighting anachronistic dinosaurs in his beloved Crater Lake National Park and in the surrounding town of Klamath Falls. It began with one lone leviathan, the one he tongue-in-cheek called Godzilla. Henry and his band of heroes defeated it but others followed: the flying varieties he named gargoyles, the mutant T-Rexes and roaming velociraptors that were so much smarter than their ancient ancestors. He, his rangers and the National Guard soldiers, fought all of them, but still the dinosaurs, cunningly destructive and blood-thirsty, kept coming. No one knew where they came from or what the future would now hold for a besieged humanity, they only knew the monsters were spreading like a voracious wildfire and had to be stopped before they ravaged the world. Eventually, he and his wife, Ann, their family and friends, retreated into a fortified ranger headquarters where they continued to battle the proliferating dinosaurs. Will Henry’s son-in-law, Doctor Justin Maltin, a brilliant paleontologist, find a way to exterminate the creatures and save them…save the world? And, more importantly, would he be able to do it in time? Dinosaur Lake IV Dinosaur Wars is the fourth and final book of the Dinosaur Lake series.

About Kathryn Meyer Griffith

Since childhood I’ve been an artist and worked as a graphic designer in the corporate world and for newspapers for twenty-three years before I quit to write full time. But I’d already begun writing novels at 21, over forty-four years ago now, and have had twenty-five (six romantic horror, four thrillers, two horror novels, two romantic SF horror, one romantic suspense, one romantic time travel, one historical romance and eight murder mysteries) previous novels, two novellas and twelve short stories published from Zebra Books, Leisure Books, Avalon Books, The Wild Rose Press, Damnation Books/Eternal Press. But I’ve gone into self-publishing in a big way since 2012; and upon getting some of my 24 books’ full rights back for the first time in 33 years, have self-published all of them along with my newer novels. My four Dinosaur Lake novels and four Spookie Town Mysteries (Scraps of Paper, All Things Slip Away, Ghosts Beneath Us and Witches Among Us) are my best-sellers.

I’ve been married to Russell for thirty-eight years; have a son and two grandchildren and I live in a small quaint town in Illinois. We have a quirky cat, Sasha, and the three of us live happily in an old house in the heart of town. Though I’ve been an artist, and a folk/classic rock singer in my youth with my brother Jim, writing has always been my greatest passion, my butterfly stage, and I’ll probably write stories until the day I die…or until my memory goes.

  2. Great review, Sherry! And you can tell Kathryn hit all of our buttons as we pointed out a lot of the same things! Usually we don’t. LOL What’s really wild is how we both talked about the ending!

    • I wonder…could she squeak out one more????????? I really hated for it to end. Funny…I watched Jurassic Park last night….again. LOL

      • I have Internet on the river where we’re vacationing…so I logged in (Yeah, I did it!) Wow, technology is great! THANK YOU SHERRY for the review! A 5th DL…I meant to end the series for good with this one but since then I have been thinking about….a fifth (Retired Park ranger revisits Crater Lake a few years later and…ta da a new type of intelligent dino is there????….Maybe. Should I keep the same characters, you think?

        • Oh man, you have given me something to think about. Characters…hmmm. Did Ranger Henry have any grandchildren?

          • Yes, two grandchildren…but I would keep ex-park ranger Henry Shore and his wife, Ann, and their son-in-law as part of the 5th book….oh, oh, Henry’s retirement might not be so tranquil, ha, ha!

  3. She sounds like a very talented writer indeed. Great review.
I would choose brontosaurus. They always seem like the kind and gentle dinosaur.

    • She sure is. Kathryn writes in numerous genres, and she does very well in all of them. I love that she leaves me eager to get to the next one…

    • She has a lot of books and the ones I have read were top of the line. Looking forward to more…could there be more dinosaurs???

      • Yvonne,
I’ve been writing now for over 45 years; published over 33…some people say they read my mass market paperbacks (Leisure & Zebra paperbacks) in the 1980’s & 90’s… I kept writing but now I self-publish all my 25 novels (working on #26…the long awaited sequel to my 1993 best-selling book WITCHES (originally a Zebra paperback). I write in horror, suspense, murder mysteries, thrillers and romantic time-travel. Nice to meet you!

    • Thanks Lynda. Seems like you guys are going for the nice guys. Me…I like a villain. 🙂

      • Haha, yes, I am the nice guy. Oh, by the way, mobi format for me. Thanks.

    • They are. I really hated to see them end, but I was really curious to see how Kathryn would wrap it up and I love that she pulled it off.

    • Hello NomisPP,
      nice to meet you!
And just to let you know I also have 2 other free eBooks out right now, Vampire Blood, Scraps of Paper and a Christmas short story Christmas magic 1959, out now as well as the first Dinosaur Lake.

  4. I like all raptors, but I think I’d be a Rhoetosaurus…an herbivore…kind of like me!

Great review! When I saw that book 1 was free, I checked, I already own it, so I downloaded it to read!

    • Fabulous, Dianne. Now I have to check out a Rhoetosaurus. Happy reading.

    • Hi and thank you Dianne…I hope you like Dinosaur Lake…but if you downloaded the book before two months ago, please re-download it as I did a major revision on it in May. It’s still free.

  5. Henry has been there from the getgo and I would surely miss him…if you offed him. Just wouldn’t be the same. What would happen to everyone if he wasn’t there to take control? He needs his family and they do contribute their parts. Retirement, scmitirement…Don’t want Henry getting bored, do we? lol

    • No we don’t want Henry to get bored. Yes, positively Henry Shore and his wife, Ann, and their paleontologist son-in-law would be in Dino V (when I write it some day in the future). Now…back to writing Witches II: Witches Apocalypse….bye for now.

  6. I loved the covers. They remind of Land of the Lost, I used to love that TV show when I was a kid. I always wanted to be Will ( I think that was him name) as he was the smartest one of the bunch. I would want to be a raptor. Sneaky little rascals that seem to be everywhere. Except their hands are a bit too short. Great review, I’ll have to check these out.

  8. Love your review! I read the first book in this series (which I loved) and need to catch up with the others. You can’t go wrong with books about creatures 🙂

And as far as dinosaurs, I’d be a pterodactyl, because I always wanted to fly!

    • Yeah Mae…I’d be a pterodactyl, too. To be able to fly would be amazing. So happy you loved Dino Lake I….thank you!

    • Thank you Julie…my cover artist, Dawne Dominique, is an amazing artist. She did all my 25 books’ covers.
