Review – Murder’s Legacy by Anita Dickason @anita_dickason #historicalfiction #cozymystery

I am soooo excited to get my hands on a copy of Murder’s Legacy by Anita Dickason.

Amazon / KindleUnlimited / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

An awareness, a sense something was amiss trickled through Tori Winters.

First off, I love the cover. It surely hints at the story inside Murder’s Legacy. The clock is ticking on Tori Winter’s plan to convert the mansion she inherited after her grandmother’s murder to a B&B. There are those who wish to stop the renovation and condemn the property. The reason? Secrets are about to be exposed.

A mystery is afoot and it will take Tori and all of her friends to solve it. I have come to love this group of women who have come together, not only as friends, but as business partners. Each has something special to offer, and Tori is constantly amazed at how they have become a cohesive unit, the ladies going above and beyond anything she could have anticipated. They are fun, determined, and I am so happy to be with them again.

The danger is insidious, the villain, or villains, not immediately apparent. Power corrupts, twisted to serve those who have ulterior motives. The villains did not anticipate all those who would come to her aid. Those who will protect her and expose them.

Red Door Inn is officially a business. Tori is the owner, Mia the General Manager, Heidi is Director of Operations, Cammis is the Culinary Director and Tina is the Advertising Director. Tori is the wealthy owner, but believes in sharing her wealth. They will become partners.

Do I see romance on the horizon?

Anita Dickason’s bio helps show why she is able to make it look so easy to write a fabulous mystery. She is able to develop complex characters who come to life through the written word. I like to try and place myself into character’s situations and wonder what I would do.

Characters with unexpected skills—that extra edge for overcoming danger and adversity—have always intrigued Anita. Adding an infatuation with ancient myths and legends of Native American Indians, and Scottish and Irish folklore creates the backdrop for her characters.

Anita is a retired Dallas Police Officer. During—what she refers to as an extraordinary career—Anita served as a patrol officer, undercover narcotics officer, advanced accident investigator, and SWAT entry/sniper.

Upon retirement, she became involved in a research project that dealt with the death of a witness to the Kennedy assassination. The research led to her first book, JFK Assassination Eyewitness: Rush to Conspiracy, that details the results of her reconstruction of a 1966 motor vehicle accident that killed Lee Bowers, Jr., a key witness to the assassination.

Once the Bowers book was written, Anita reached the same point many authors ultimately face: I’ve written it, now what do I do? Answering that question has become another career, one she has wholeheartedly embraced. New Release – Deadly Keepsakes by Anita Dickason @anita_dickason

Such a lovely cover, don’t you think?

Deadly Keepsakes: A Tori Winters Mystery

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I have loved all the books I have read by Anita Dickason, but Deadly Keepsakes is my FAVORITE. It all starts with the lovely cover, add in an historic house with hidden secrets, some wonderful characters that stole my heart, and I am hooked.

Alone. A hospice nurse. A mysterious death. A vicious dog. Sure did get me going, from the opening pages and I love when an author hooks me so quickly I am unable to look away.

It was the beginning of her descent into a living hell of fear

She knew the police couldn’t protect her. It was up to her to protect herself. Like her, I had thought danger would be over after the trial, but the story would have been over too soon and Anita Dickason wouldn’t have it. Now I know why. Thrills and chills coming up.

Anita Dickason didn’t take the story where I thought it would go. Well done, Anita. I do love when an author can throw a surprise my way and I should have known better than to leap to conclusions with an author like Anita.

The best thing that ever happened to Tori Winters was meeting MIa…and Cammie, Heidi and Tina. I loved watching Tori grow, along with her friendship with these amazing characters, so well fleshed out I wanted them for my friends too. I laughed and cried with them.

I was swept up in the intrigue that became Tori’s life. Who to trust? What the heck is going on? How much danger is she in? Where is it coming from?

I have to come back to the characters, so richly developed. I love the ladies. The more I read of them, the more I came to love them, their generosity, their desire to help a newcomer to their town, their selflessness, doing something good for someone and expecting nothing in return…but Tori will show them how much she appreciates and loves them.

The suspense is not in your face, fast paced danger and thrills, but an underlying current of menace and intrigue flows through the entire novel. I didn’t want to put the book down, but sleep was calling to me.

I love the historical elements, Benny Binion, Top O’Hill Terrace, Granbury, Texas. I love when an author adds elements that make the book special to me, touching on familiar things and introducing me to new things that make me want more.

WOW! I am blown away and super excited about more to come. I can’t say much more or I may include spoilers that are worth discovering for yourself, but I will repeat myself, WOW. I want more of these characters and I can hardly wait to see what is in store for them next.

Review – Deadly Business by Anita Dickason @anita_dickason

This cover got my attention…how about yours?

Deadly Business

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Anita Dickason draws on her 22 years in law enforcement to create her wonderful novels, and the depth and detail she writes into them give me hours of reading pleasure.

When the call came in, Jennie Layton raced to Texas…to her grandmother.

Jennie’s parents had died in a car accident when she was ten years old. Her grandmother took her home…to the ranch.

Murder, attempted murder, cattle rustling, greed…with twists and turns that kept me saying, “I didn’t see that coming.”

Deadly Business by Anita Dickason is a modern day wild west story, with characters and scenarios that read all too real. Fact and fiction is blended seamlessly, with a pace that made it impossible to put down. The depth and detail had me lost, worrying and fretting.

I read a Texas Rangers series by Jon Land, and Anita Dickason’s inclusion of the Special Texas Rangers and U S Marshalls made me feel right at home.

The case takes a bizarre turn when Piper unknowingly crosses paths with a Special Ranger. If he can’t derail her investigation, it could cost him his life.

With millions of dollars on the line, nothing will stop a ring of cold-blooded killers, including the murders of a U.S. Marshal and a Special Ranger.

Codes & Conspiracies – Operation Navajo by Anita Dickason @anita_dickason

.

Operation Navajo by Anita Dickason is not my first book by the author and it will not be my last. She has the ability to hook me from the beginning and keep me going until the final page has been read.

Anita Dickason is just as interesting as her novels, so be sure and check out her bio.

Operation Navajo: A Tracker Novel

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Anita Dickason gets right to the heart of the matter…a death threat against the life of the Federal Reserve Chairman, Frank Littleton. He seeks the help of the FBI’s elite Tracker Unit. The team makes me think of the Criminal MInds team and the BAU. This is a series, but each book can stand alone.

The Navajo Code was used during WWII. The Lakota, the Comanche, the Hopi, the Crow and other Native Americans served as code talkers. The Navajo Code was the only code never to have been broken.

Blake, one of Scott’s agents, received a package containing a Navajo Code, among other things. He received it because of a blast from the past and I do wonder how it will fit in with what I know. Intriguing. What is so important that it has to be secretly passed in Code? And seeing the Code has never been broken, how will he ever figure it out?

We have plenty of arrogance from the corrupt people who are greedy and conspire to have more. I am a huge fan of conspiracies. I feel I have an open mind, a cynical attitude, and enough doubt to keep from falling off the sane world.

I love authors that do their research and we get an inside glimpse and history of the Federal Reserve.

Books like Operation Navajo scare me, because they sound all too true. In this wacky world we are living in right now, it does make me wonder….could this happen? Is it happening now? Wouldn’t surprise me and that is definitely something to fear.

Anita Dickason’s biography reads like a suspense thriller character and I can imagine where her inspiration for her wonderful stories comes from. Keep up the great work!

Is The Fog Evil – Not Dead by Anita Dickason @anita_dickason

.

I would like to send out my thanks to Anita Dickason for the opportunity to read Not Dead. I fell in love with the creepy cover and could hardly wait to find out what’s ‘between the covers’.

Not Dead

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

The creepy cover for Anita Dickason’s Not Dead drew me in. I love suspense and the supernatural, so this was a perfect fit for me.

There is a long list of characters, which Anita lists in the beginning of the book.

Mandy, a four year old girl, is missing. Meridian, Oklahoma, is a small town, so I am thinking it has to be someone who knows her. Strangers would be noticed.

Chief Chad Bishop is sitting at his desk, rounding up help and doing the basics, amber alert, reward….when in walks HER.

She is the niece of the missing girl and the new editor of the Tribune, Ashley Logan. She is a hotshot reporter from Baltimore, and knowing Chad had left the Atlanta Police Department abruptly to come to to Meridian, she investigates…HIM, while investigating Mandy’s disappearance. Why did he leave such a great position to come to the small town of Meridian. Of course, we could ask the same of her. We will find out all the details.

Ashley thinks she can pump the secretary for details, but she is mistaken.

Anita Dickason’s descriptions of the characters make them easy to picture in my mind.

At the end of Chapter Three there is an eerie moment that ramps up my anticipation for this new element. I wonder, will it be a good thing…or a bad thing.

The story keeps getting more interesting the more I read. It’s nice to see something good coming with the bad. I’m not sure what to share without spoiling things. There is so much more going on than just a missing child and the villains that are truly evil.

The fog…is all fog hiding evil? I didn’t anticipate where the story would go and that is a very good thing. I loved it.

It’s not hard to predict that Ashley will run straight into trouble. She’s persistent, dogged, and determined to find Mandy before her time runs out. She’s not going to leave it up to the coppers to do it.

We switch character’s points of view and I love hearing from the horses mouth, so to speak. It allows me to understand their motivations and feelings that lead them to do what they do.

I love the mix of child trafficking and the supernatural. I can overlook a problem or two that I had with Chad and Ashley working together. After all, it is fiction and I allow the author to take me where they will, as long as there is a good story to go along with it. Not dead did not blow me away, but I loved the mix of romance, suspense and the supernatural…AND THE DOLL.
