Codes & Conspiracies – Operation Navajo by Anita Dickason @anita_dickason

.

Operation Navajo by Anita Dickason is not my first book by the author and it will not be my last. She has the ability to hook me from the beginning and keep me going until the final page has been read.

Anita Dickason is just as interesting as her novels, so be sure and check out her bio.

Operation Navajo: A Tracker Novel

MY REVIEW

Anita Dickason gets right to the heart of the matter…a death threat against the life of the Federal Reserve Chairman, Frank Littleton. He seeks the help of the FBI’s elite Tracker Unit. The team makes me think of the Criminal MInds team and the BAU. This is a series, but each book can stand alone.

The Navajo Code was used during WWII. The Lakota, the Comanche, the Hopi, the Crow and other Native Americans served as code talkers. The Navajo Code was the only code never to have been broken.

Blake, one of Scott’s agents, received a package containing a Navajo Code, among other things. He received it because of a blast from the past and I do wonder how it will fit in with what I know. Intriguing. What is so important that it has to be secretly passed in Code? And seeing the Code has never been broken, how will he ever figure it out?

We have plenty of arrogance from the corrupt people who are greedy and conspire to have more. I am a huge fan of conspiracies. I feel I have an open mind, a cynical attitude, and enough doubt to keep from falling off the sane world.

I love authors that do their research and we get an inside glimpse and history of the Federal Reserve.

Books like Operation Navajo scare me, because they sound all too true. In this wacky world we are living in right now, it does make me wonder….could this happen? Is it happening now? Wouldn’t surprise me and that is definitely something to fear.

Anita Dickason’s biography reads like a suspense thriller character and I can imagine where her inspiration for her wonderful stories comes from. Keep up the great work!

ABOUT ANITA DICKASON

Anita Dickason

Code Name: Trackers: The elite of the elite. FBI agents, each with a secret, an extra edge, that defies reason and logic.

Characters with unexpected skills—that extra edge for overcoming danger and adversity—have always intrigued Anita. Adding an infatuation with ancient myths and legends of Native American Indians, and Scottish and Irish folklore creates the backdrop for her characters.

Anita is a retired Dallas Police Officer. During—what she refers to as an extraordinary career—Anita served as a patrol officer, undercover narcotics officer, advanced accident investigator, and SWAT entry/sniper.

Upon retirement, she became involved in a research project that dealt with the death of a witness to the Kennedy assassination. The research led to her first book, JFK Assassination Eyewitness: Rush to Conspiracy, that details the results of her reconstruction of a 1966 motor vehicle accident that killed Lee Bowers, Jr., a key witness to the assassination.

Once the Bowers book was written, Anita reached the same point many authors ultimately face: I’ve written it, now what do I do? Answering that question has become another career, one she has wholeheartedly embraced. The publishing field is in a constant state of flux, offering unlimited possibilities for an author, but also endless landmines.

Anita started a new company, Mystic Circle Books & Designs LLC, offering cover design and manuscript services. In addition to her works as an author, she enjoys helping other authors see their dream become a reality.

An ordinary family fighting to survive…

This powerful and ruthless group will stop at nothing to recover the document. Events spin out of control, tragedy strikes and the quest for answers begins. Facing impossible odds, they race against time to discover the truth and save their loved ones. In the process, they learn just how powerful and enduring a lie can be.

Meticulously researched and drawing on historical facts, Luke Montgomery’s fast-paced, thought-provoking thriller exposes the dark history behind the cultural and religious challenges we face today. This explosive and courageous debut novel forces us to grapple with issues of identity and faith. In the words of one reviewer, “Never again will you utter the words ‘gospel truth’ without thinking of this book.”

“Luke Montgomery’s fast-paced novel is a political and religious tour de force. This book puts a face on the clash of civilizations unfolding in our day. Too true to call fiction, too gripping to put down. Well-researched, brilliantly executed!” –Joel Richardson, New York Times Bestselling author

I added A Deceit To Die For by Luke Montgomery to my TBR on 9.28.12. Sounds great to me. This past year I have been reading more historical fiction and though religious stories aren’t at the top of my list, a manuscript and assassins have me curious. It is Luke’s debut novel and I love to discover new to me authors.

Realistic Tragedy – Their Last Breath by Sibel Hodge @sibelhodge

I first found Sibel Hodge by participating in a tour by Partners In Crime and never looked back. Whenever I see her name, I immediately check further. This will be my third book by Sibel Hodge and I have loved every one of them.

Their Last Breath has a powerful cover that definitely fits the storyline. Done by BlackSheep.

Their Last Breath

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I love the simple but powerful cover and it definitely pertains to the story inside. Does it make you curious? Good! I love Sibel Hodge’s work and was so excited when she gave me a copy for review.

Detective Warren Carter retired…with a haunting secret, so when the call came from the Chief Superintendent of the Professional Standards Department, he was on full alert. She wanted his help and gave him free rein to investigate. He felt the justice system failed many, all politics, all the time, so he didn’t always follow the rules, going rogue and I like that. I feel his frustration. This time, it was with approval.

Nice touch, with the old neighbor. I felt his feebleness, oldness, loneliness.

I wondered how Warren and Becky’s cases would intersect.

Their Last Breath by Sibel Hodge is one of those books that takes off early, ticking me off, getting my emotion in an uproar. Human trafficking and enslavement. The reason for the women’s abductions was a new one for me and that just added to my disgust. I loved trying to understand what could possibly make someone think that is okay. Delving into the minds of twisted characters fascinates me.

Becky…she eats often…she’s a grazer. I almost snorted out loud. LOL Sibel Hodge’s writing. She creates complex characters and she knows how to ‘show’ their personalities.

Early on, I find HER very fishy. My spidey senses are tingling and instinct is a valuable tool when reading, writing, and investigating.

I love flawed characters and Warren is one for sure. I would want him and Becky in my corner if I am ever in trouble. Their tenacity and instinct lead them to success.

Well done, Sibel. You hooked me from beginning to end. The characters are filled with depth and personality and that made me me love and hate them. The storyline is one I am familiar with, kidnapping and trafficking, but you added that little bit extra that I am always looking for, getting my emotion in an uproar, filling me with disgust at the villains and empathy with those that can find no way out of the position they find themselves in, just because they wanted a better life. Their Last Breath has the feeling of reality, of events that go on today.

Do You Believe in the Illuminati – Tainted World by Ashley Fontainne @AshleyFontainne

Well, we are coming to the end of the Rememdium series with Tainted World by Ashley Fontainne. It has been one hell of a ride and I can only wish the best to the gang I have come to know so well.

Tainted World (Rememdium Series Book 4)

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Well, we are at the end of the adventure with this group of people I have come to know and love in the final story of the Rememdium series, Tainted World by Ashley Fontainne. It has been a long, torturous, bloody road to El Salvador and we have lost many friends and family. How many people are alive and where they are will remain unknown and that may make their survival more likely.

Those around you died brutal, savage deaths, literally being ripped limb from limb and eaten alive. Would you rather go out in the initial slaughter or be one of the last ones standing? Which is worse? Well, I will not go quietly into that good night. How about you?

So much more to worry about than the zombies that dog their every step. Sometimes humans can be more deadly. Conspiracy is the ultimate betrayal when the country is going through an apocalypse. If you can’t count on those in charge, who can you count on? Do you believe in an ultimate power source, like the Illuminati? I sure do.

When Mike and Trent came across Chris, that about summed up everything for me. I can’t tell you what happened but it affected me profoundly.

I was surprised to see a character that carried my name, Sherry, whether it’s intended or not., It’s always so much fun to see it happen. I thought she was the best. LOL

I love Jesse. She is a character that has turned everything in her life around and stands tall in a crisis. I loved it when she said, “…even a pawn can capture the king if in the right position on the board.”

I wondered how Ashley Fontainne would wrap up the Rememdium series and I thought she did a bang up job. I am completely satisfied. After all the running, fighting, killing, munching, hiding, crying, dying and loving, I breathed a sigh of relief at a job well done. Not everyone made it, but those that did left me with a feeling of hope for humanity.

ABOUT ASHLEY FONTAINNE (from her website)

Award-winning and International bestselling author Ashley Fontainne is an avid reader of mostly the classics. Ashley became a fan of the written word in her youth, starting with the Nancy Drew mystery series. Stories that immerse the reader deep into the human psyche and the monsters that lurk within us are her favorite reads.

Her muse for penning the Eviscerating the Snake series was The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. Ashley’s love for this book is what sparked her desire to write her debut novel, Accountable to None, the first book in the trilogy. With a modern setting to the tale, Ashley delves into just what lengths a person is willing to go when they seek personal justice for heinous acts perpetrated upon them. The second novel in the series, Zero Balance. focuses on the cost and reciprocal cycle that obtaining revenge has on the seeker. For once the cycle starts, where does it end? How far will the tendrils of revenge expand? Adjusting Journal Entries answered that question: far and wide.

Her short thriller entitled Number Seventy-Five, touches upon the sometimes dangerous world of online dating. Number Seventy-Five took home the BRONZE medal in fiction/suspense at the 2013 Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards contest and is currently in production for a feature film.

Her paranormal thriller entitled The Lie, won the GOLD medal in the 2013 Illumination Book Awards for fiction/suspense and is also in production for a feature film entitled Foreseen.

Ashley’s decided to delve into the paranormal with a Southern Gothic horror/suspense novel, Growl, which released in January of 2015. The suspenseful mystery Empty Shell, released in September of 2014. Ashley will be teaming up with Lillian Hansen (Ashley calls her mom!) to pen a three-part murder mystery/suspense series entitled The Magnolia Series. The first book, Blood Ties, is due out the Summer of 2015.

Ashley also hosts The WriteStuff, a popular BlogTalk Radio show, each Friday night at 10 p.m. CST.

Interview with Authors from We Know the Truth, Do You?

An Anthology to Celebrate the Raid

1. I love a good conspiracy. What is your theory on government cover-ups?

Annie Walls (Author of Lavish Lure) – I think a lot of stuff gets covered up, but I also believe the government covers things, so we don’t have a mass panic situation.

Beverly Ovalle (Author of The Road to Eden) – I believe that many of the conspiracies carry a grain of truth.

Chrys Fey (Author of Detective Heavenborn) – The government doesn’t want us to know a lot of things because people would either panic or be appalled and demand them to stop.

C.L. Roman (Author of Not Your Father’s Area 51) – My theory is that it isn’t our government that runs Area 51. It’s aliens disguised as humans, studying our technology and culture while trying to protect us from the rest of the universe and vice-versa.

Debra Parmley (Author of The Road to Groom Lake) – I believe big money is behind much of what our government does today and most politicians are corrupt. Cover-ups are to cover their butts. It’s CYA on a much larger scale than most peoples.

Harley Easton (Author of In the Air Tonight) – The X-files was dead on when they said: Apology is Policy. I think the government would rather hide things and apologize when they are discovered than let the public in on potentially dangerous information.

Jennie L. Morris (Author of Galaxy Genetics Inc.) I believe the government, all governments, cover things up. Maybe not necessarily extraterrestrial in nature, but they definitely hide things from the general public. Do I want to know what these are? Maybe some of them, but I probably don’t want to realize how close we’ve come to self-destruction and how many times.

Sherry Rentschler (Author of Mermurings) – I think the government does believe in “something out there” but I don’t believe we have any proof on earth. Do I think we have been visited? Likely, because how can we be the only beings in the vast space called the universe? I don’t believe in little green men. Not even sure that we might recognize strange visitors. We are a very arrogant species who believes we are the best of the food chain. Nature has shown us that we are petty and small. In the universe, I’m pretty sure if anyone has visited us, they’ll waiting for us to “mature” a bit more before revealing themselves.

Valerie Puri (Author of Burner Phone) – It’s interesting to read about false flag events. There are so many of them with varying theories, some more disturbing than others.

2. I have read of more than one military pilot claiming to have seen…something. I can only imagine their fear coming forward and I commend them for sticking to their beliefs. Do you believe it could be a UFO from another planet, or another government with covert military technology?

Annie Walls: I don’t know. I’m a concrete fact kind of person.

Beverly Ovalle: In many cases, both. I’m sure, like us, military technology is advancing more than the average person knows around the world. I also believe we are NOT alone. The universe is too large to have only one race of sentient beings. It is very egotistical to believe we are the only intelligent life in the universe.

Chrys Fey: Honestly, it could be either of those theories: alien spaceships or covert military ships.

C.L. Roman: There’s a lot more reason to believe there are other life forms out there than not. With as many planets as the universe is thought to hold, life on only ours is a bit unreasonable.

Debra Parmley: I believe they are UFOs from other planets and perhaps they also prevent the information from coming out. I believe they watch and study us.

Jennie L. Morris: I think it could be either. The universe is vast, there is no way we are the only sentient beings. Also, we test military planes all the time. I think UFO sightings are a mixture of both.

Sherry Rentschler: I’m a retired Air Force officer and non-combat veteran. I know pilots who said they did see strange things. I do believe in the possibility of visits from outer space but so far, I think other countries may be experimenting over our country and we’ve caught sight of them. I do think our own country is also experimenting and not telling the everyday pilot. Have I proof? No, but then the pilots don’t either. Anything is possible!

Valerie Puri: I’m not sure if the UFO(s) they witnessed were extra-terrestrial or not. I do believe they saw something. It could be an experimental aircraft or spacecraft from another country. But it could also be from another planet. We may never know….

3. Have you ever seen a UFO? Do you want to?

Annie Walls: No. And yes. I usually believe more when I see it first-hand.

Beverly Ovalle: No, but I would love to.

Chrys Fey: Actually…I think my mom and I did once when I was a kid. We were coming home from a Renaissance Fair at my siblings’ high school when we both got a creepy, “something is following us” feeling. I looked out my window and saw a bright, circular light in the night sky. It was far away, but it was plan that it was following us. And we were the only car on the road. Then, another light appeared behind it, and both followed us for a while before they disappeared.

C.L. Roman: I have not. But as long as they’re friendly/benevolent, then sure, I’d love to meet some. No probing though. Does not sound fun to me.

Debra Parmley: No, I haven’t. But I am not averse to the idea, if one wants to show itself.

Harley Easton: Nope. I see more ghosts than aliens. Not sure how I’d feel being confronted with something extra-terrestrial.

Jennie L. Morris: Honestly, I’ve seen lights in the sky I can’t explain. Were they UFOs? To me, yes, but that doesn’t mean they were alien. I just couldn’t identify them.

Sherry Rentschler: I have seen strange lights. I don’t know what it was. I do hope I see a real UFO. But I’ve seen a real ghost, so why not a guest from outer space?

Valerie Puri: When I was younger, I did see something strange once in the night sky. I don’t know what it was, but I’ve never seen anything like it since.

                                            – Isaac Blaze

Isaac Blaze.

A quick wit, zero allegiances, and every major government agency after him. He’s also got two voices in his head. Neither of which is particularly helpful. Or care to be.

But at least he’s never been caught.

Hell, he’s barely even come close.

So when finally a SWAT team does actually manage to take him in – and with such ease at that – they probably should’ve been asking themselves: why?

Too bad they didn’t.

Technological terrorism that is terrifying to even think about.

The characters run the gamut. From good to bad:  the evil bitch that’s pissed she didn’t get her way, the greedy partner, the CEO whose demands cross the line, the sick woman who’s heart is pure and the man who loves her.

The Masters’ Key is very frightening…filled with the technological implications and disasters that can occur when a psycho has you in his sights. I love trying to figure out characters motivations, but this psychos thoughts are so far past my understanding. Would anyone be safe, anywhere, if he wanted to get to you? I don’t think so.

I would like to reach into my Kindle, grab him around the throat, and…

Action packed. The tension level is off the charts, as I see the bad guys in every shadow, around every corner, and behind every door.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of The Masters’ Key by Helen Hanson.

INTERVIEW WITH HELEN HANSON:

Q: What does Helen Hanson bring to the thriller genre?

HH — Heart-skipping pace, life-critical stakes, and broody, looming danger wrapped in a twenty-first century skin. We live in a time when technology surrounds us. The kid down the street has instant access to information unfathomable a century ago. Consequently crime had gone digital, online, and victims rarely see what hit them.

Because of my background, I present the technology employed by my characters in a fluent way to readers. They say I write about techno topics in a way that makes them enjoyable. I don’t burden the prose with jargon. Most readers want to know what kind of gun is fired, not how to field strip it.

Q: Tell us about your characters.

HH — My characters are unique beings, each requiring a different spark to light the fire. I explore their sparks.

I create believable characters with realistic dialogue engaged in page-flipping action. I like to watch ordinary people find the extraordinary in themselves when facing adversity. No one is surprised when Jason Bourne takes out a detachment of Marines, but we can’t say that about waitress Maggie Fender.

My protagonists don’t possess the Special Forces skills of a super spy. They stumble into dangerous situations and use technology to advance their position even if it isn’t strictly legal. The stakes have to be worthy of a fight.

Plus, they’re witty people who possess veins of humor. As in life, it punctuates disaster.

Q: Where do your thrillers take place?
HH — The action in my thrillers takes place in a variety of locations around the globe. So far, we’ve landed in: Russia, Boston, San Francisco, Pakistan, Washington D.C., Santa Cruz, Venezuela, Half Moon Bay, and Mongolia. Since the characters across my novels exist in the same story world, they often appear in other works, though the current titles are not a single series.

Q: Do you write your thrillers in series?
HH — At the request of my readers, I have. The sequel to 3 LIES is now out and called THE MASTERS’ KEY, with a third volume on deck. After that, I’ll expand from DARK POOL and OCEAN OF FEAR because those characters are bound to find new adventures. With an FBI agent, a hacker, and a robotics expert in the lineup, they offer continuous fodder for action and suspense

ABOUT HELEN HANSON

Helen HansonBestselling author Helen Hanson writes thrillers about desperate people with a high-tech bent. Hackers. The CIA. Industry titans. Guys on sailboats. Mobsters. Their personal maelstroms pit them against unrelenting forces willing to kill. Throughout the journey, they try to find some truth, a little humor, and their humanity — from either end of the trigger.

While Helen writes about the power hungry, she genuinely mistrusts anyone who wants to rule the world.

Helen directed operations for high-tech manufacturers of semiconductors, video games, software, and computers. Her reluctant education behind the redwood curtain culminated in a B.S. in Business Administration with concentrated studies in Computer Science. She also learned to play a mean game of hacky sack.

She is a licensed private pilot with a ticket for single-engine aircraft. Helen and her husband spent their first anniversary with their flight instructor studying for the FAA practical. If you were a passenger on a 737 trying to land at SJC in 1995, she sends her most sincere apologies. Really.

Born in fly-over country, Helen has lived on both coasts, near both borders, and at several locations in between. She lettered in tennis, worked as a machinist, and saw the Clash at the San Francisco Civic Auditorium sometime in the eighties. She currently lives amid the bricks of Texas with her husband, son, and a dog that composes music with squeaky toys.
