This was the very first review I ever did on my blog back on July 23, 2012.
I fell for this authors writing style and went on to read the other two books in the Evil Secrets Trilogy. All the books can stand alone, but if you love Romantic Suspense, I would recommend starting with the first. My review links are below if you wish to check them out further.

MY TEASE

As soon as her bare feet hit the tiled entryway, an image of Boyd popped into her head. So did fear. Before she ever reached the front door, she yelled at the person on the other side,” I’m armed. I have a vicious attack dog and I’ve just called the police.”
(page 196 of paperback)

SYNOPSIS

For forty years the double murder of an elderly couple in the Hollywood Hills remained unsolved and all but forgotten. No one cared. But a stranger, bent on revenge, is out to change all that.

Kit Griffin has finally overcome a painful childhood at the hands of her mother, former actress Alana Stevens. No longer living in the grasp of the cold, tyrannical woman, Kit has found a new life tucked away in little San Madrid, California, running a business she loves, surrounded by friends she considers family. For the first time her life is on track. That is, until Alana is found brutally murdered on Mother’s Day, pulling Kit back in to the dark horrors of her past. To make matters worse, the police consider her the prime suspect.

Jake Boston, an old family friend and the man Kit has loved since she was a teen, is fighting his own demons as a suspect in his wife’s murder two years earlier. Despite his past, he’s determined to win Kit over once and for all. But before that can happen they need to convince the police there’s a killer working his way down a list with cold-hearted vengeance in mind.

Forced to delve into Alana’s dark past, it becomes clear someone is out to settle a score. When Jake and Kit uncover a forty year old double murder that leads them straight to the door of a legal dynasty, they soon find out just how far the heirs will go to keep the past buried and eliminate all the loose ends to protect their empire. Will Jake and Kit become the next victims or will they find an unexpected guardian angel?

5 STAR Review & Giveaway for Promise Cove by Vickie McKeehan

Promise Cove is a novel of romance, suspense and the paranormal. My expectations are high and Vickie McKeehan does not disappoint. She starts out with the familiar, takes a twist and turn, then ends with ooey, gooey, warm fuzzies.

Drink in the gorgeousness of this awesome cover. I can see myself sitting in one of those chairs with my camera, a margarita and the next book in the series, Hidden Moon Bay, listening to the palm fronds rustling in the wind and enjoying the wonder of the beach.

The words rolled off his tongue, “Murphy at the store said you might need help out here.”

It didn’t make sense. With all that Scott had, it was Nick standing here talking to Jordan. It had been Scott’s family home, but his grandparents had suffered a financial hardship and lost possession of it. After Scott and Jordan were married, he bought the house. They started their married life with the thought of the B & B the house would become when the renovations were finished……………………… until he was called to duty in the service of his country.

Scott’s last words,  “Promise me, Nick….”

Nick had thought they would be his last words.

What was the promise?

Come on in and have a seat. Let’s talk about Promise Cove.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos   5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

I am continually surprised when I read and love some Romance books as much as I do. I look at a book blurb like this and think – oh – girl meets boy, falls in love, they fight a little, will she lose him, and then happy ever after. I find that is not the case here. There is so much more to the story. The Goodreads book blurb says it will hold me breathless to the last page, how about the last sentence.

A small town. Of course I know some of what is to come. But wait. I expect Vickie to come up with something surprising and she does that flawlessly.

I keep trying to think of a way to describe Vickie McKeehan’s writing. It is so smooth, the words flow like water rolling gently down the stream. I never said I was a writer. LOL

She takes romance to a level so far above the usual, that it takes a while for me to see how it will get to the happy ending. I am always trying to figure out the end of a book, from the very first page. In this instance, I don’t want to know what is coming. Surprises can be very nice. ^_^

I cannot imagine war. My mind will not go there emotionally. I cannot begin to get a sense of what it would be like to know you can be shot or blown up at any second. What about the wives, keeping the home-front running, while waiting for their spouse’s return? And what if they don’t return?

Our service people’s bravery is something to be inspired by. I would like to thank all our military people for the wonderful job they do in protecting us and our way of life.

Her characters come alive on the pages as you enter their world, hoping and wishing that all works out for them. I am usually drawn to a strong female character in the books I read. I guess because I am female and I want to walk in their shoes. This time?

I fell in love with NIck. Yep, that’s right. You heard me. Read on and tell me you wouldn’t.

Nick – hypervigilent – fight or flight response in soldiers returning home from war.

Had he inherited a gene that kept him from emotional attachments?

When Vickie describes Nick with Hutton it blows my mind. This is the thing that stood out most in the book for me. She describes his wonder at learning he has feelings and emotions, just becoming aware as if a baby himself. So sweet. My eyes watered at Nick’s amazement of Hutton and Vickie describing his awe as Hutton would speak, drum and just do normal baby things. I couldn’t put it down. How could you not fall in love with Nick yourself? Plus, he’s pretty HOT.

I always like a little chuckle when I am not expecting it.

“…closest thing to a hunk….UPS man who gave her a three minute thrill…”

I loved the ending. To me a great romance ends with a little surprise and happy ever after.

There is no doubt in my mind that I will grab every book Vickie McKeehan writes, knowing she will take me from my world into hers. At the moment there are three more books in the Pelican Pointe Series and I can hardly wait to see where Hidden Moon Bay takes me.

I picked this book up on a free day at Amazon. Thank you Vickie for sharing the love.

I know I keep rambling on and on, but every time I edit the review, I think of something else I want to include. With that said, I’m going to read this ONE more time, then publish it. LOL

Review of The Bones of Others by Vickie McKeehan

Vickie has a way of grabbing you by the….and pulling you into the story from the very first page.

Add to Goodreads

He liked to go the park and watch the little girls. That is when he saw her. She was the one who would help launch his business venture, Whitfield’s Little Angels. It was so easy. They always believed him. She was twelve years old and so sweet and innocent. That was 13 years ago.

Now. Erin Prescott was only 15. She was sneaking to the mall after school to meet up with Jason Avery.

The rain would help disguise his blitz attack.

Josh Ander was CEO and founder of Ander All Games, the front man. Todd was the programmer, the brains of the company, but he liked to stay low profile. Josh treated his employees to Friday nights out at the local hangout, Gulls. It was like patting a dog for a job well done and in return they would work harder to please him. When he walked in, the guys were talking about a wolf being seen in the city. Sure.

Melanie had been stalking Josh, but when she followed him into the men’s room to suggest a quickie, it was the last straw. He had made a mistake by sleeping with her once and now she thought he really wanted her. He slipped out the back way, just going for a breath of fresh air and to regroup. He lost track of where he was, until he found himself surrounded by four men, one with a knife. He didn’t care about the cash or the watch, but his wife had died and he wasn’t going to give up his wedding ring.

All of a sudden, she appeared, as if from thin air, like a goddess fromArtemis the Goddess Pictures, Images and Photos one of his video games. He saw a warrior with a light saber. She was all over them, using her night stick, her hands, her feet, karate kicking them until they went down. While they were down, she gave each one of them a few more kicks and hits to make sure they stayed there.

When he asked her name she told him, Skye Cree.  She wanted to take him to the hospital because he had been stabbed. Instead, he convinced her to take him home.

“She had been on the hunt and now it seemed she had to babysit a helpless, wasted schmuck.”

She got him home and played doctor, patching him up. Was there anything she couldn’t do, he wondered? After she patched him up, she left him, passed out.

She’d lost his trail. She knew she would never be finished, that there would always be another.

As she looked into the fog, she came face to face with a wolf – its eyes as violet as her own. It would take Kiya to help her find the bones of others.

5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

Who is she? Why is she here? What is she hunting?  And that was only the first chapter.

I love love love it. Paranormal, romance, crime. A gorgeous hunk of man and a woman superhero, with the monster next door thrown in.

I love the cover. Vickie’s book covers seem to speak to me, making me want to read the book before I even find out what it is about. Her writing is amazing and her stories are so easy to read that I begin to live and breathe with her characters.

The plot is so well-developed that I am drawn from page to page and chapter to chapter, not wanting to stop for anything. Just wanting to find out what was going  to happen next.

Skye – I love that the main character is a female warrior, with her Nez Perce Indian heritage, it made the warrior image even more appropriate. Instead of the sword and shield, she had Karate and a night stick. No nine to five job for her. She had a mission and a purpose that drove her to accomplish the amazing things she did. I love strong female characters in novels, because I feel I could never be that person, but I want to have the opportunity to feel the things she feels and do the things she does and through words I am able to do that. Vickie is so good at drawing me in and making me feel a part of the story.

Josh – A rich, handsome, sexy man who is not stuck on himself. What’s not to love? Accepting of her being the strong one, but still knowing how to bring his assets to the table. I love that the main male character wanted to help her with her mission and went about making it possible for her to continue to do so without expecting or wanting anything from her, other than herself.

Vickie’s characters are so intriguing, that you wish you knew them, that they were your friends. How interesting life would be if they were. They could be your everyday person next door, who gets up and goes to work at their day job. I love the way Vickie depicts her women – no weak, sniveling, crying. whining femme fatale’s for her.

I wanted to read it cover to cover, non-stop, but my eyes grew heavy and the words began to blur. I didn’t want to miss a word of it, so I slowly closed the Kindle and called it a night.

Vickie’s books are chock full of love and romance, adventure and thrills. Heart stopping and heart warming. I can’t help but think that at least one of her books is bound to become that mega-hit movie you are waiting for

I received this book from the author, in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Review of Ending Evil by Vickie McKeehan

This is the last “Evil” book in the trilogy and I open my Kindle with trepidation. I do it with a feeling of loss, knowing I will be saying good-bye to some dear friends. Their story is told. Of course, I will read them again and I don’t even have to dust them off. lol

Ending Evil

“Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs. The ones who accept you for who you are, the ones who would do anything to see you smile, and who love you no matter what.”

Anonymous

Spoiler alert: This is the third book of the Evil trilogy. Each tells the story of one of three women. Kit. Baylee. Quinn. They were friends and had moved in together when they were only sixteen. They were the only real family each of them had. The evil that happens to them stems from the branches of the legal entity that is Boyd, Boyd, Geller & Getz. Their stories are interwoven and culminate in this, the last book of the trilogy.

“To let evil go unpunished is to breed more evil.”

Anonymous

Trevor Dane left the Medical Center as the LAPD hurried to lock it down. It seemed like his list was never-ending. Jessica. Eva. Alan. Frank. Now Connor. That left Cade and Collin and maybe even some cousins, before he could end the evil reign of Boyd, Boyd, Geller & Getz.
Research Medical Center Pictures, Images and Photos
Quinn Tyler was a nurse at the Medical Center and wanted nothing more than to be a pediatrician. She had an overwhelming desire to care for all the babies in the world.

She was working in the ER  when Connor  Boyd was brought in. She helped work on him but to no avail. She heard his brother, Cade yelling and turned toward him. In his rage, he reached for her, but the cop held him back.

Reese Brennan was there to see his client, William Scott, Baylee’s father. He’d been at the Boyd’s all day, watching the police dig up human remains. One body they found was Sarah Moreland, Baylee’s mother, another was Luc Delaine, Sarah’s friend, the tennis player, but no one knew who the third body was.

Reese was hoping to get more information about the bodies from William and to see Quinn. He heard Cade screaming and yelling. He knew that Cade was a danger to Quinn, so he went to check it out. Cade kept screaming and  yelling threats at her as he was drug away.

Reese loved arguing with Quinn. She had a sarcastic wit that he found very appealing. He couldn’t help getting turned on just by thinking of her. Reese had a calmness about him that Quinn was also drawn to, but she wasn’t happy about it, attracted to a lawyer of all things.

Quinn’s father, Nick Tyler, was a famous rocker and singer tor the Irish band, Shatter. She had never had a relationship with him, everything was handled through his lawyers, thus her dislike and distrust of lawyers. Her mother, Ella Canyon, was a crack whore and flake, pretty much non-existent. As a kid, they had slept wherever they happened to be, whether it was a car, or a friend’s house. Then Ella married Tyler’s record producer and they moved to Beverly Hills.

Reese was best friends with Jake and Dylan.  Quinn respected them, so she thought Reese couldn’t be all bad. He was looking out for her, trying to get the detective to arrest Cade. To her, loyalty was one of the most important qualities a person could have.

Quinn got in trouble with Dr. Mendenhall, the chief of Emergency Surgery because of her past relationship with Cade. The  family power of Boyd, Boyd, Geller and Getz carried a lot of weight and Dr. Mendenhall felt he had no choice but to suspend Quinn.  She told Reese that if he got her reinstated, she would make it more than worth his while.

Mr. X was exacting his revenge. Reese finally voiced what they all thought, Mr. X was ending the evil, making sure it stopped now with the sons. No way were any of the six going to help the police catch him. He had saved their lives more than once.

When he had saved Sarah from Connor, he had left the gold cowboy in the shirt the baby had been wrapped in, but it was his own shirt. He had left DNA evidence for the first time.

Max St. John was there to question Baylee, Sarah’s mother. Dylan was trying to protect her, he didn’t want it known that Cade had claimed Connor was Sarah’s father. Dan, Max St. John’s partner, arrived. He had come from the Boyd’s house and was telling Kit and Jake what was discovered.

As Baylee was getting ready to leave, Reese was wondering why Quinn didn’t tell Kit and Baylee about Cade in the ER. She was very private but that didn’t make sense. They were her best friends and they confided in each other.

She had told him her story of Cade. She was 19 and he had made her feel special. After a couple of months she gave in to his charm. She thought he loved her. One night, Cade thought she had laughed at him, so he beat her and choked her. She really thought he would kill her. She was saved by his cousin, Adam Getz. Cade knew she had never told anyone other than the police. Sumner, of Boyd, Boyd, Geller & Getz, had talked her into dropping the charges. She did, but she kept the restraining order and forced Cade to make a deposition to the police.

Connor was so drugged up, he was useless. Cade told him they couldn’t just let it go. Quinn needed to pay. He blamed Quinn for everything, Quinn had had him arrested for domestic  violence and he had never forgotten it. This was the last straw. He remembered what is was like, screwing her while he was choking her.

Cade and Collin were coming for Quinn. She wasn’t home, but Cade jimmied the lock to her house. He unhooked the gas line, while Collin looked for a candle. Collin lit the candle, set it on the table and they hauled it out of there.

Trevor had their houses and cars bugged, but the cops were all over both. His only means of tracking them now, was their cell phones. He had been busy with Connor at the medical center and had lost track of the boys.

Quinn and Reese had fun making out in the parking lot. Reese knew he was going to spend the night with her. He was afraid for her and wasn’t going to let her out of his sight until the Cade business was over. Just as they were arriving at her place, an explosion rocked her car, throwing debris. It was quickly followed by another blast, then another. Reese was sure he knew who set the fire.

Everyone (Kit and Jake, Baylee and Dylan, Quinn and Reese) were meeting at Crandall House. It was time to make their own plan for ending evil.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos     5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

The “Evil” trilogy has been the highlight of my 2012 reading season. I have completely fallen in love with the story, the characters and the author, Vickie McKeehan.

The covers of the books have been awesome. The plots have been so detailed and Sun on a blue sky, behind a tree, in a late autumn daycaptivating, that I found myself lost between the covers, not wanting the books to end. Every time I turned around, Vickie McKeehan had another suspenseful, nail-biting detail to add to the story.

The characters, well, you will either love them or hate them, but you will feel emotions from beginning to end. They went from disgusting and despicable, to chivalrous, courageous, admirable, loving and sexy. I love books where the characters affect the outcome, not just wait for someone to come and save them.

What would you do and how far would you go to protect and save the ones you love from an evil so horrible that even the police could not stop it?

The ending surprised me, I did not see it coming, but I loved every word of it.

Now that the Evil trilogy is over, I will be moving on to Promise Cove and the Pelican Pointe novels. I can hardly wait to dip my feet into another series of Vickie McKeehan’s books, that I am sure will make me fall in love with an entirely new cast of characters who are screaming for my attention.

And now, I won’t say goodbye to Kit and Jake, Baylee and Dylan, and Quinn and Reese, but see you later.

I received this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.

My Review for Deeper Evil, go HERE.

About the Author

Vickie McKeehanJust Evil was given Coffee Time Romance and More’s highest rating plus a CTRR award.

Vickie created her first character when she was four years old and came up with her imaginary friend, Marty. Together the two battled, they slayed, they conquered. She and Marty managed to get into plenty of trouble and usually had to come up with a clever way out of it. From the Marty experience a fertile imagination was born.

Today she’s graduated to more grownup characters. And after spending years sitting in a cubicle, writing boring corporate communiques all the while day-dreaming about stories beyond those dreary walls, she finally decided to let her mind run free.

The Evil Trilogy sprang from that.

Though she was born and bred in Texas, she now lives in her adopted home state of California, near the ocean she loves.

Deeper Evil

Spoiler alert:   If you haven’t read Just Evil, there will be some information included in this review that will give away some of the plot. I have tried to keep it to a minimum, because even though it’s a trilogy, I feel the books could be stand alone. Each book covers the life of one of the women. And if I only read one of the books and not the others, I would still feel that I was glad I to have read it.

He was parked outside the Book and Bean in San Madrid, right back where he started.  He knew Baylee Scott was running the store this morning and that she was alone with Sarah, her baby daughter. When he got up, he had a feeling that something was going to happen. He knew to pay attention when his gut was talking to him.

He is a mystery within the mystery.

It had all started with the death of Noah’s parents back in 1969.

Frank Geller still had to account for his part in the murder. Jessica, Eva and Sumner had already paid  the ultimate price.

Now that Kit and Jake Boston are a couple, and both of them are murder suspects, Baylee figured most of the customers were there to see Kit.

Since Kit’s kidnapping, the media had flipped their verdict from guilty to innocent. Kit had been saved by the stranger and he had left his calling card, a gold cowboy.

Baylee was afraid that with all that had happened to Kit, it would bring the media attention back to her. She had done her best to keep a low profile.

Collin had been crazy enough to kidnap Kit, what would Connor, his brother do if he knew Baylee was still in town?

Baylee had left town when she found out she was pregnant with Sarah. She had been staying with a friend of hers in Denver, until she found out her father was dying of cancer. She had told no one, not even Kit and Quinn why she had left. Since being back, she had rented a guest cottage from Gloria in Agora Hills, hoping Connor wouldn’t find her, even worse find out about Sarah.

Dylan Burke, VP of Billing-Pro Software, was on his way to drop off some computer equipment to Jake, who was the CEO and his best friend. They had been hiding out at Kit’s house since the kidnapping. Dylan had an ulterior motive, Baylee Scott. He hadn’t stopped thinking about her since he’d first met her. He was daydreaming as he drove and didn’t notice he’d passed through town. He turned back and stopped outside the Book and Bean.

When he entered the store, he saw Sarah first and watched as she tried to reach her toy. When Baylee saw him, he told her he was running an errand for Jake and just stopped by for some of her delicious chocolate cake.

They had a good laugh when she told him the media left because of an anonymous phone call, telling them a mega superstar had to be rescued when he tried to surf off Malibu, and was rushed to the hospital. Who could possibly have called it in? She hadn’t grown up in Hollywood without learning something.

Baylee held Sarah as she cut the cake and Dylan offered to take the baby. When she asked him if he knew what he was doing, he said “What’s to handle….First you pick up them up by their legs, swing them around a couple times….” Had me cracking up. I like that even though the plot was heavy there was plenty of humor to be found.

All of a sudden her face turned white and she told him to take Sarah and leave immediately. He didn’t ask questions, just did what she said. As he walked by the store window he looked in, only to see Connor Boyd. Dylan quickly called Jake and told him to get here as soon as possible. Baylee needed help. As Jake and Kit drove to the store, Dylan was talking to him on his cell phone, telling him how terrified Baylee was that Connor would see Sarah and that’s why he had to leave her alone with him.

Baylee had known this moment would come.  Collin had come by the store before and recognized her, so she had known it was only a matter of time before he told Connor. He had told her to never tell anyone about their being together, even if it was only once.

When Jake and Kit came in, Connor quickly started telling the story that he was there to explain to Kit how she should feel grateful that Collin rescued her. How everyone had it wrong, Collin wasn’t the bad guy. Yeah, right.

Baylee knew it was time for her to explain what was going on, why she had left. Kit thought Baylee had an affair with Connor and jumped on her, saying how evil all three of Boyd brothers were, and how they had tried to keep Quinn from Cade. So how could she do it Baylee went on to tell her what really happened.

Connor had drugged her, raped her and left her alone in the hotel room. He had called her later saying what a great time he’d had.  After finding herself pregnant and with weeks of threatening phone calls from Connor, she left town without telling anyone anything. The Boyd’s had so much power, they could do whatever they wanted and not have to pay the price, so to try and fight them would be useless.

It was Dylan’s idea for Baylee and Sarah to stay with him.  They would pretend they were a couple and make people believe Sarah belonged to him. They admitted to each other they had feelings, but agreed to take it slow.

Frank Geller had just returned from his honeymoon, this was his fifth marriage. There had been three funerals while he was gone, his two sisters and Connor’s father. Connor brought up to Frank, that of the four original partners in the law firm, hePistol Pictures, Images and Photos was the only one left. The vendetta that took them out wouldn’t be over until he got his. When Connor brought up the subject of the gun, Frank said for all they knew the gun was long gone, the gun that was used in the murder that got them the money to start the Boyd’s law firm.

They didn’t know they were overheard, but Trevor Dane had bugged the house. There was only one more person left that was responsible for killing Noah’s, his mentor, parents back in 1969, Frank Geller.

No one knew that Noah had lived through his imprisonment by the Viet Cong. Trevor was the only one who knew Noah’s story and when Noah found out he had cancer, he knew he’d never be able to make them pay, but Trevor could. He would avenge him because he knew the evil was deeper than Noah had known.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos    5+ STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

I received this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.

The cover is awesome. I always love trees, especially so with this series because of how the plot keeps TREE Pictures, Images and Photosbranching out, yet still comes back to the root of the story – the murder of Noah’s parents and the three women whose lives it affected. A complex and twisted plot. The branches weave around the women, engulfing them and all those whose lives they touch.

I just couldn’t put it down. Made myself because my eyes were starting to cross. I have tried to ration the books, there is one more, Ending Evil. I love the characters so much, I am going to hate when it is over. I feel like they are my friends, and I will miss them dearly.

The friendship of the girls is something to strive for. More than once I was on the verge of tears for all the terrible things done to them and still being done, through no fault of their own. A friendship like theirs is to be treasured. It lasts for a lifetime. How many friends are there for you, no matter what?

Characters were so real, you will love them or hate them, but they will make you feel emotions that will stay with you long after the story is over. I’m not a huge fan of romance, but the love and care the characters had for each other was so real, that I could only hope that they would find the one, their soul mate. I wanted them to be happy and have the dream we all want, someone who loves us unconditionally, by our side through thick and thin.

When Reece gave Jake and Dylan the finger I laughed out loud. So realistic, I could picture it in my mind, like a film unrolling.

I loved when Dylan said he was a regular Magnum PI, I used to watch that show all the time. It help’s me to relate to the character by defining his personality.

A masterpiece work of suspense, mystery, thriller and romance.

About the Author

Just Evil was given Coffee Time Romance and More’s highest rating plus a CTRR award.
