MY ONE SENTENCE REVIEW

As our adventure on the slopes begins, shades of The Shining rears it ugly head…the Timberline, snowcats…and I give Meg a lot of credit because she is terrified of most outdoor things, and Kate Dyer Seeley puts her in harms way to entertain us in this fun cozy mystery, with travel tips for your visit to Mt Hood, Oregon.

GOODREADS BLURB

After talking her way into a job writing for Portland’s Northwest Extreme magazine, Meg Reed may now really be in over her head. Actually, about 8,000 feet over her head. . .

She’s at Mount Hood’s remote Silcox Hut, covering the the seriously hardcore Ridge Rangers– Oregon’s elite high-altitude rescue team–during their four-day winter training. Sure, Meg beefed up her outdoor skills over the summer . . . but she’s still hoping to cover the event with some hot chocolate by the cheery fireplace. Then, during a sudden blizzard, she swears she hears gunshots. No one stranded in the hut believes her . . . until self-absorbed Ridge Ranger Ben Rogers is found outside in a pool of frozen blood. Meg’s now got to find this killer quickly . . . before cabin fever does them all in!

MY ONE SENTENCE REVIEW

Meg is afraid of heights and many outdoorsy things, but she is like a dog with a bone and sifts through the list of suspects that kept me guessing and kept the mystery alive in this fun cozy.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos 3 Stars

GOODREADS BLURB:  Portland, Oregon, is the perfect fit for someone like Meg Reed. It’s a city with a small town feel, where she can crash on the couch of her best friend Jill, now that she’s graduated from journalism school. . .

But a girl needs a job, so Meg bluffs her way into writing for Northwest Extreme magazine, passing herself off to editor-in-chief Greg Dixon as an outdoor adventure enthusiast. Never mind that Meg’s idea of sport is climbing onto the couch without spilling her latte. So when she finds herself clawing to the top of Angel’s Rest–a two-thousand-foot peak–to cover the latest challenge in a reality TV adventure show, she can’t imagine feeling more terrified. Until she witnesses a body plummet off the side of the cliff. Now Meg has a murder to investigate. And if the climbing doesn’t kill her, a murderer just might. . .

Giveaway & Review – A Pacific Northwest Mystery @katedyerseeley

SILENCED cover

MY REVIEW

Silenced in the Surf by Kate Dyer Seeley is a fun cozy mystery that will have you boarding on the water and sunbathing on the sand as you watch some hunks strut their stuff. We have plenty of mystery to keep you guessing, with characters you will love and love to hate. So, jump in, the water’s fine.

Meg volunteered for the King of the Hook assignment in Hood River, Oregon. It doesn’t take long for her to get in trouble, alone and struggling with the windsurfing board, she comes across his dead body. It wasn’t quite the shock you would think, seeing she is no stranger to dead bodies.

I can relate to her, trying new things, not that in to style, sort of a blow and go kind of girl. She loves vintage clothes and the only vintage I have is the old ones hanging in my closet from years ago.

I love her gang of Matt, her best boy friend, Jill, her best girl friend, and her Gam, her grandmother. She is a hoot, a new age, paranormal character that worships the sun and sand. How could I, a fellow worshiper, not fall in love with this wild and adventurous woman?

The writing makes this read real, like the trouble print papers are in now that so many people get their news online. Something aspiring journalists need to take to heart. Press credentials…love ’em. I have traveled and gained access to places I never would have done or seen without them.

Silenced in the Surf is a light paranormal cozy mystery that shares some of the real. I have a love of the water and agree that we are the caretakers, so if you bring it in, take it out. I like the subtle talk of safety and keeping the beaches clean.

We have plenty of suspects to go around and Kate Dyer Seeled will keep you guessing, It’s him, no it’s her, no it’s him…

There is more than one storyline, so you won’t find all the answers to her questions, but you will find THIS one. I don’t believe my reading suffered because I didn’t start at the beginning, though I will now, and I am looking forward to reading through the entire series.

A wonderful series to add to your summer reading list.

BONUS: Travel tips for visiting Hood River, Oregon.

I received a copy of Silenced in the Surf by Kate Dyer Seeley in return for an honest review.

About the Book:

Covering a windsurfing competition should have been a breeze for reporter Meg Reed, but with a killer in the curl, she’s headed for rough waters…

Hood River in the Columbia River Gorge is the windsurfing capital of the world, and Meg is stoked to cover the King of the Hook event for Portland’s Northwest Extreme magazine.
Before the competition gets under way, Meg has a chance to try some windsurfing on her own. But when the current sweeps her downriver, she spots a body snagged on the rocks. The dead man is Justin Cruise, aka Cruise Control, a celebrity windsurfer and not exactly a nice guy. It’s soon clear his death was no accident, and Cruise had no shortage of enemies. As Meg dives right in to discover who wiped out the windsurfer, she’ll need to keep her balance–or she too may get blown away.

Raindrops keep falling on my pool…
(c) Sherry Fundin

We had a little bit of rain this week and cooler weather at night but I have been spending some time outside, getting a head start on the yard. The pool is sparkly clear and I feel like jumping in, very soon. I have also been going through my email files, moving and deleting, organizing them better. Spring cleaning my computer is as important as spring cleaning my house…but it takes so darn long and my eyes are crossing. I do feel a sense of accomplishment. Now…on to some more fun stuff.

NEW TO fundinmental

FOR REVIEW

Pam Garcia offered me a copy of Europa: Awakenings, the first book of the Eruopa series for review. When I saw the cover…and read the blurb, there was no denying, I HAD to have it. Science fiction and fantasy are taking me on a trip to the underwater world of Atlantis. After reading about the author and her love of the ocean and all its critters, I can hardly wait to get started. A woman after my own heart!

2016-03-05 03.17.48I read this first book, Betrayed by Jaye Frances and loved it (see my review and enter the giveaway here), so I am excited to get my hands on Book II of the World Without Love series, Reunion (erotica). It’s unusual for me to read erotica, but I love Jaye Frances’ writing and there is so much more to the story than sex. It deals with the subject of human trafficking and the enslavement of women.

I will be reviewing Silenced in the Surf by Kate Dyer Seeley for a tour in April. Available for Pre-order. This item will be released on March 29, 2016. This is the third book in the Pacific Northwest Mystery series and I am excited to dive right in. I got all three books signed by the author, so get ready for some cozy mystery murders. They are in the correct reading order in the pic below and normally I would begin with the first book in the series, Scene of the Climb, but I want to make sure I get Silenced in the Surf done in time for the tour…
