~A paranormal romance series by Taylor Dean~
.
.

Lancaster House was the first Taylor Dean book that I read. I loved it, but when I read The Middle Aisle, she won me over for life. It has one of the best endings I have every read. Even now, months later, it pops into my mind off and on.

I have always thought her covers are very original and I love the painterly effect.

Buuuuut. I totally agree with her decision to change them. I think these beautiful and fantastic new covers are going to scream from the shelf, “PICK ME! PICK ME!” What do you think?

My Review for Lancaster House    /     My Review for The Middle Aisle

.
.
I love my OLD covers. (Pictured on the left.) I really do. They’re different from the norm and that’s why they captured my attention.For Lancaster House, I liked the idea of a hand reaching out from the grave. It seemed appropriate to the story; Andre reaches out to Zoe from beyond the grave. It was Carrie-like and kind of creepy.

There’s just one problem.

This is not a horror novel. Not at all. This is a paranormal romance. People who like horror are drawn to the cover and are sadly disappointed when they realize it’s a romance.
.
People who love paranormal romance are turned off by the cover because it looks too creepy. In other words, the cover just wasn’t working.
.
.
.
.
.
I love The Middle Aisle cover because it matched Lancaster House so perfectly. And part of the story takes place in Monterey, California. Monterey is known for its Cypress trees. The tree on the cover of The Middle Aisle reminded me of a Cypress tree and seemed perfect.
But, if the right people aren’t reading the first book, no one will ever read the second one no matter what the cover looks like!
.
Bam! Decision made!
.
It was time for new covers for Lancaster House and The Middle Aisle! I love the new covers because they speak so perfectly as to what’s on the inside..
.

.
Without further ado, here they are, the new covers!

Great timing for Taylor to release Joshua’s Folly. How about something warm to drink?

 Who would think hot chocolate could hold so much meaning?  It will never be the same after you read Joshua’s Folly and find out the special meaning it holds for Marissa and Joshua.

Feel free to make yourself a cup, pull out your comfy blanket and let’s find out what is so intriguing about hot chocolate.

 photo goodreads-badge-add-38px11_zps1ae6e47f.jpgNight was so peaceful for 11 year old Marissa.

Mary said would things would get better, but Marissa didn’t think so.

Marissa couldn’t sleep. She would walk the halls, but when she saw his photograph on the wall, she felt better.

His name is Joshua.

Joshua’s Folly is a romance novel, without ghosts, the supernatural or murder. It is not a novel I would normally choose to read, but because it is by one of my favorite Indie authors, I knew I would read it no matter what it is about. I did enjoy Marissa’s story and for you romance lovers out there, Taylor Dean is an author you will want on your TBR list.

Joshua actually has two Follies. One is his Garden of Eden on the ranch, the other…………….you will have to read the book to find out.

Marissa had lost her parents at eleven years old and I cannot begin to imagine what that would be like. When Mary finds out that Marissa wanders the house at night, gazing at Joshua’s photograph as if it is a lifesaver, she gives her a copy and tells her he will be her guardian angel. I thought, oh no, get out the tissues.

“A smart aleck firecracker and a “guardian angel.”

Joshua is raising his child alone and Mary arranges for Marissa to spend time at Joshua’s ranch, helping out with his daughter, Bethany. Bethany has advanced social skills and language because she spends most of her time around adults. My son was the same way, so it was easy to relate to her.

I love the banter between Marissa and Joshua. Bethany joins in and I couldn’t help but smile and laugh right along with them.

Taylor’s romance is always clean and I chuckled when she describes Joshua’s thoughts on kissing Marissa. You will have to read for yourself to find out how sweet it is.

Taylor talks about Marissa having one thought in her head, while having a conversation at the same time about something different. Do we ever really know what people are thinking, even as  we are speaking face to face?  Do it and see if anyone catches on.

Flowering Tree (c) Sherry Fundin

Flowering Tree (c) Sherry Fundin

“Josh, you have a great sense of humor. Don’t use it to tear people down. Use it to

build people up.”

I know something has to happen and I felt Marissa’s sadness and her heart plummet when it does, even though I know it has to end with happy ever after. Now that’s good writing.

This is a ROMANCE, a simple love story. I was told that Joshua’s Folly was not like Taylor’s other books I have read, but I love her writing so my expectations are still high. She has a way of writing that gets me involved. The characters are well developed and I find them easy to relate to. They sound as if they could be your friends and family.

A couple of times the story slowed for me, but I still enjoyed Joshua’s Folly. For all you Romance lovers out there, this is a sweet, clean love story that will warm your heart and leave you with a happy ending.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos  3 STARS – Would Recommend To Others

Trick or TREAT – Ghosts and Vampires, Oh My!

I am a huge fan of Taylor Dean’s and am happy to share in her Halloween celebration – ghosts and vampires, oh my.

The covers of her books are very distintive and I love their artistic flavor. But what is even more surprising are the stories inside.

These are books that all supernatural fans will want on their to-be-read shelf.

The Middle Aisle has one of my favorite endings of all time. I guess you would say it is bittersweet. It put a smile on my face with tears in my eyes and sticks with me even now, months later.

My Review

A PARANORMAL ROMANCE

Zoe Grayson needs a change. So, she moves to another state, purchases an old, dilapidated 1920s Victorian Mansion, and sets out to restore it to its former glory. As she begins the restoration, she finds herself falling in love with the old house . . . not to mention its illustrious builder, Mr. Lancaster. Zoe becomes obsessed with the house as she discovers its secrets; hidden rooms, secret passageways . . . and a mysterious man who seems to think the house is his. Who is he? More importantly, how does he live in her home unseen and unheard?

The unexpected answers leave her reeling—and questioning everything she’s ever known. To her dismay, Zoe’s actions land her in the local psychiatric hospital, scheming for ways to return to Lancaster House . . . and the love of her life.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
 photo goodreads-badge-add-38px11_zps1ae6e47f.jpg
My review
The Sequel to Lancaster HouseZoe Grayson is back in Lancaster House, ordered to bed rest for the duration of her unexpected pregnancy. Doctor Wade Channing, her overzealous psychiatrist, is living in Lancaster House, taking care of her, waiting on her, and tending to her every need. It seems to be the perfect arrangement.There’s just one catch.
She has to tell him her story—everything that has happened in her life since the moment she escaped from Serenity Hills. It’s been quite an adventure to include renovating another home and a walk down the middle aisle.
But, that’s all over now. Nothing is real. It never was.
How did she end up in this miserable situation?
for nickFor Nick
What would you do for love?
Zachary Drake had love in his life—and tragically lost it. He knows it won’t come his way again. Andie Parker would do anything for the love of her life.
Even marry a total stranger.
In spite of the unorthodox manner in which Zach and Andie come together, there is no denying that things are unexpectedly good between them, taking them both by surprise.
However, when secrets come between them—and trust does not—Andie soon finds herself vowing to never make the same mistake again. But, she’d do it again in a heartbeat and she knows it. She’d marry a hundred strangers if it helped Nick. She’d do anything for Nick . . . anything.
Praise for For Nick
This is another winner by Taylor Dean! It only took me a little over a day to read this book because it’s such a page turner! What would you do to save the one you love most in the world? Marry a stranger? That’s exactly what Andie has to do for the love of her life Nick. This story is so sweet and wonderfully written. It’s a beautiful story of love and sacrifice. It takes you on an emotional roller coaster! Absolutely worth the read!
~Christy of Christy’s Cozy Corners
I love this book!! It seemed like a happy ending early on but since there was a lot of book left, I realized that something big was going to happen. Zach and Andie are adorable together and I loved watching their relationship develop into something real. But Nick was always looming in the background and definitely isn’t a relationship Andie is going to let go of. I’m not giving any spoilers with this so you’ll have to read this book yourself to find out who Nick is and why Andie won’t let that relationship go. I cried a lot towards the end. If you need a good cry, grab some tissues and curl up with this book!
~Melanie of Mel’s Shelves
Hang onto your emotions with this story, because they will be running all over the place, and you don’t want them to get away. One minute you’ll be sighing with joy, the next your mascara will be running down your face–you know, that kind of emotional meltdown type of book. I adored both Andie and Zach. They are so funny and cute together, and their ongoing alliteration game was right up my alley. The emotions throughout this book are extreme–no blah, mediocre feelings in this tale! No way! This is my 5th Taylor Dean book, and it’s hard to pick a favorite…but this has to be in the top 2 for the surprises it held.
Awesome Giveaway and Review of sierra by taylor dean
As I open the book, I can hardly wait to see what taylor dean has in store for me today. A pretty cover and the book blurb make me eager to begin.
Riveting from beginning to end. Be prepared to read straight through.
.SierraAdd To Goodreads
Adam was born when his Pa told him they had found their Eve at a rest stop in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Alyssa’s life was changed forever at the same rest stop.
The saying, your life passes before your eyes, ran through her mind, as she thought of all the wonderful memories she had, until now. She felt her life had been perfect. She had married her wonderful husband and their beautiful son, Clay, had recently entered their life.
Pa drove deeper into the wilderness and Sam began to worry for them all, but especially for Alyssa. They stopped and separated Alyssa from Sam and Clay. She thought if she went willingly, maybe Pa would leave them alive in the woods.
Alyssa had a hard time keeping it together, so they knocked her out. She was so worried about Clay and Sam, she really didn’t care what they did to her.
Pa and Adam put a leash around her neck and led her like a dog. She couldn’t figure out what they wanted with her. They hadn’t done anything to her yet. When they told her why they had kidnapped her, she couldn’t help but laugh. She felt the idea was so ludicrous, they must be yanking her chain. She began to realize they were not joking around and became horrified, trying to think of a way out of the mess she was in.
The Glory of the Sierras Pictures, Images and Photos
Alex had lived alone in the mountains for three years. He was an only child and had wanted for nothing. He came from a family of doctors, but with his family gone, he changed his world dramatically. He isolated himself at his cabin and seemed quite content keeping his own company.  He had supplies brought in once a year and that was enough socializing for him.
Alyssa had been looking for an opportunity to escape. When it came, she ran for her life. Pa and Adam had taken her so deep in woods, she didn’t know which way to go, so she just ran as far away from them as she could.
They caught her easily, she ran right to them. Adam said she belonged to him and he would kill her before he would let her go.
Alyssa prayed. She didn’t want to die. She had to fight. They had to pay. She would not let them win.
Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos   5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)
I look at the cover and it conveys a feeling of peacefulness. I can picture myself in the warm, snug cabin, sitting in front of a cozy fire burning in the fireplace, with my feet up and a cup of hot chocolate (or a hot toddy)  in one hand and a book in the other. A deep quiet settles over the cabin as the snow floats softly to the ground. Well, if you think that is what this book is going to be like, you better brace yourself.
This was a hard review to write. By the time I got to page 20, I wanted to stop giving any clues as to what was to come. It was a kidnapping, but the cruelty went way beyond that. It was very intense and I feel you need to read it for yourself to get the full effect of the events.
Riveting from beginning to end. Be prepared to read straight through. I couldn’t put it down. It was hard to keep from skimming ahead. I just had to know what was coming. It was killing me waiting for it.
I thought Alyssa was an idiot, when she took off from Alex on her own. I hate when women are depicted as being so stupid. But then, Alex said, “sometimes you have to see and know for yourself how impossible something really is.” It made sense to me. The scene helped to develop the personalities of the characters.
A man and a woman alone in the woods, of course sex is going to be an issue. A knight in shining armor? Well, the armor might be a little tarnished, but a knight nonetheless. A woman with a family to go back to. A man who had felt such loss, he had isolated himself in the mountains, with human contact only once a year, when supplies were brought in.
I watch a lot of the Alaskan reality shows on TV. Some of those people are pretty far off the grid. If it wasn’t for friends checking on them and helping them out, who knows how long they could be dead before anyone found out. Some of them live in places that are almost inaccessible. Because of this, who knows if a story like this could be real or not.
But, it is a fantasy, a book. Just like in the movies, some things are put in to make it work the way the writer wants, or to make the reader (or watcher) become more involved in the story and up the level of intensity. And why not? It is fiction, not a true story. I want the story to take me to a place I would not otherwise go. To me, books are an escape. I want to be so engrossed in them, that the world around me is nonexistent. taylor dean seems to do that exceptionally well for me.
I received this book from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.
My Favorite Quotes
“Everything that happens to us in life becomes a part of us and makes us who we are.”
“Cold pizza is the best breakfast food ever” I can relate to that. My mother and I both think cold pizza is the breakfast of champions.
“It’s like I’ve tasted the bitter, and now the sweet’s so overwhelmingly good, I just want to bask in it.”
“…there’s one thing I’ve learned from all of this and that is, life is short, life is tender. It can be taken away in the blink of an eye. When you find love you grasp it, never let it go and enjoy each day you’ve been given to the fullest.”
 She slowly rocked him as she wept. Alex felt……weeping.
Premise:
Zoe Grayson needs a change. So, she moves to another state, purchases an old, dilapidated 1920s Victorian Mansion, and sets out to restore it to its former glory. As she begins the restoration, she finds herself falling in love with the old house . . . not to mention its illustrious builder, Mr. Lancaster. Zoe becomes obsessed with the house as she discovers its secrets; hidden rooms, secret passageways . . . and a mysterious man who seems to think the house is his. Who is he? More importantly, how does he live in her home unseen and unheard?
by Taylor Dean
Paperback, 356 pages
Published November 26th 2012 by Create SpacePremise:
Zoe Grayson is back in Lancaster House, ordered to bed rest for the duration of her unexpected pregnancy. Doctor Wade Channing, her overzealous psychiatrist, is living in Lancaster House, taking care of her, waiting on her, and tending to her every need. It seems to be the perfect arrangement.
There’s just one catch.
She has to tell him her story—everything that has happened in her life since the moment she escaped from Serenity Hills. It’s been quite an adventure to include renovating another home and a walk down the middle aisle.
But, that’s all over now. Nothing is real. It never was.
How did she end up in this miserable situation?
GUEST POST
Lancaster House contains many secret passageways and hidden rooms. It’s definitely part of its charm. The house itself is a main character in the book without me intentionally writing it that way. But Lancaster House isn’t the only one keeping secrets. I couldn’t resist adding a couple of secrets of my own into the writing of this book.
First I need to explain. I vividly remember sitting in my California Lit class in high school, listening to my teacher explain the hidden meanings John Steinbeck placed in the Grapes of Wrath—the types of things that are in Cliff Notes. I was mesmerized. I was impressed. Like the preacher’s name was Jim Casy. Initials: J.C. By no mistake did Mr. Steinbeck choose those initials—he chose the name Jim Casy to mimic the initials Jesus Christ. At least this is what my teacher taught me. Did Mr. Steinbeck confirm this? I have no idea. I’ve always wondered if these types of things are made up by people who study classic literature or if the author really intended it that way! Still, the concept fascinated me. Next I learned about East of Eden. The father’s name is Adam, and his son’s names are Caleb and Aron. (Father Adam=C for Cain and A for Abel) At any rate, you get the whole initial idea thing. To a young student of literature, this was intriguing and I never forgot it. (I grew up living only an hour away from John Steinbeck’s infamous Cannery Row, hence the obsession with Steinbeck.)
With the above thoughts in mind, I set out to name my hero. Since the visual of Adam Lambert was the image that inspired my main character, I decided to stick with A.L. as the initials. Andre Lancaster. Yes, I’ll put secrets in my book just like John Steinbeck, I thought. Brilliant.
Okay, so it’s not that amazing. But it felt amazing. The kind of thing that made me smile to myself whenever I thought about it.
There is one other similarity to Adam Lambert and American Idol placed in Lancaster House.  During the American Idol season, Adam Lambert would show up on stage dressed in his casual attire, with his hair flopping over one eye, looking like an anime rocker. In the next performance he’d show up with his hair slicked back, dressed in a classy suit, singing “Tracks of my Tears.”
To view Adam’s performance of “Tracks of my Tears,” click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc2lXKuXUD8
A total transformation. I couldn’t resist having my main character do the same.
Review of the middle aisle by taylor dean
“Riveting conclusion” is so appropriate. I know sometimes the second book can be a letdown, but this knocked my socks off. I was racing through the pages, unable to put it down. Incredibly written. Psychologically and emotionally draining.
.The Middle Aisle (Lancaster House)
Zoe had moved into the Victorian House determined to renovate it and sell it. What she found instead, was a love so strong, that even the supernatural barriers in front of her and Andre could not keep her from his arms.
Spoiler Alert: This is the conclusion of the lancaster house series.
To see the Review for lancaster house, Book I, go HERE.
Dr. Channing woke Zoe with a full tray of breakfast. Since being pregnant, she ate more than ever. She hated being bedridden, but loved her little package.
She admitted to Dr. Channing that Andre had been a figment of her imagination.
Dr. Channing wanted her to tell her story from the time she had escaped from the hospital. She told the doctor that she knew Andre would be waiting for her. She told him, that as she raced toward the closed front door of the house, it opened by itself. She jumped into Andre’s arms and poof – she vanished into thin air.
The house had been rented, while Zoe spent six months in Serenity Hills Psychiatric Hospital. The renters corroborated her story.
As Andre held her, they watched Dr. Channing walk through the house. Andre swore he would never leave her again. When the Dr. left, he wished them happiness. Why would he do that, if he believed Andre wasn’t real?
As they kissed, Zoe tried to crawl inside Andre’s skin. There was still a barrier between them. She desperately wanted to be one with him.
Dr. Channing asked the neighbors if he could put up a camera, aimed at Zoe’s house. He wanted to prove to Zoe there was no Andre. He felt she was playing him.  And what about Dr. Channing? Wasn’t something wrong with him? Was he overly obsessed with Zoe?
Andre said he wanted to take her down the middle aisle – get married. He was changing because of her love, his curse was lifting. Zoe was so in love with Andre, she didn’t want to live without him. Was he really turning human? Would they be able to connect and lift the barrier between them?
Does she really believe the baby is Andre’s?
Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos    5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)
Was he a ghost? A vampire? Was he even real? The story will have you so engrossed, that it won’t matter what Andre really is. He will win you over.
I felt it was such a tragic love story, that I wanted to cry with Zoe, as she strived to create a real life with Andre. Their love was so great, I could only hope that it would break all the barriers that the supernatural had imposed on them. I loved the characters, and even Dr. Channing won me over in the end.
teary eyes Pictures, Images and PhotosThe psychological thrill ride had me questioning everything. The plot was so unique and unforeseen, that I was constantly surprised.
The ending left me stunned, I smiled as the tears ran down my face.  It was one of the best endings of any book I have read and left me with a warm, fuzzy feeling that lingered long after I had finished the book.
I received this book in return for an unbiased and honest review.
