Sunday Post #431 August

Hello fellow bloggers. Today, Saturday, is a beautiful day. The sun is shining and there is a light breeze. I’m watching some college football. It is such a trip. So many games keep getting cancelled or postponed because of Covid. The pandemic has been a boon for some of the lesser teams. I mean, who would think that Liberty and Coastal Carolina would be ranked higher than Michigan. Oh, and Jimmy, sorry, but you have to go. Michigan has been playing terrible. The coaching sucks and the players act like they just don’t care. It’s been interesting watching, but the National Championship? I love that they are playing, but I think it is ridiculous, as the pandemic rages across the country.

I am getting down about not being able to go to the beach and grab some wings at Hooters, watching the waves break on the beach or going to my favorite Mexican restaurant.

Of course, I keep forgetting to share my Hurricane Sally photos, but the hurricane took out the new bridge to the beach and it is about an hour there and back. It will be like that for the next six months. So glad we decided not to live on the beach. Maybe we’ll hop down to Perdido Bay and do our Christmas photo this year, instead of Pensacola Beach.

Mr Wonderful has been working a lot of freelance. They held the Sunbelt Soccer and Volleyball tournaments over in Alabama, which is close to us. I am sure this was only done because of Covid, but with him being out of work and his last paycheck coming in December, we will gladly take it. This is one of those situations, when a door closes a window opens.

Even though it may not feel like it right now, this too shall pass. So keep the faith and stay safe.

Sherry’s Shelves #134 – Hurricane Irma

.

Sherry’s Shelves #134 is my weekly update from September 3– September 9, 2017.

Sunday Post #201 Countdown to Spring..

.

~~~
Hi fellow bloggers. We will be heading out to the beach today, and Monday, to see what’s happening, and take some pics and videos. I love the water and to see it angry is amazing. Such force and power. I love to feel the crashing of the waves and spray of the salt water on my face, hear the thunderous pounding of the water, that lets us know who’s the boss. People should be afraid.
But, before we get into the hurricane, I want to congratulate the Pensacola Wahoos for their first Championship. The hurricane did impact the playoffs and some games were moved or cancelled, but the Pensacola Wahoos swept the series. Great job guys and look forward to seeing you next year!
.
Some pics of me and Mr Wonderful in the press box. He directs the games, and sometimes runs a camera for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
.
Here are the guys that work behind the scenes, making the game happen. They clean up good, don’t they?
 I want to congratulate and thank the Pensacola Blue Wahoos for a wonderful season.
As Irma blows its way through many island nations and Florida, we are keeping up with the latest news and getting prepared. Here in the Florida Panhandle, Mr Wonderful and I think we will be spared, but are still diligent about staying informed. Ya just never know with a hurricane.
Irma is bigger than the width of Florida, a monster that shows no mercy to anyone or anything in its path. The only good thing about a Hurricane, is we do have ample warning to take measures for our safety and protection of life and property (sorta).
IRMA'S WORST-CASE SCENARIO POSSIBLE FOR FLORIDA
You never can tell exactly what a hurricane will do. I really have my fingers crossed that we don’t have to put the aluminum shutters up. Have never taken them out of the garage, but it will be hours of work if we have to.
So far it looks like we will face a tropical storm, with wind and rain.
Saying goodbye to summer is never a happy time for me, but it will be back. 🙂
In Memorium – A Salute to the Blue Angels
pensacolabay6516CR
Memorial Day has come and gone, but I would still like to take a moment and thank all those who have served and sacrificed to preserve our way of life.
blueswatertower6516CRPensacola is the home of the Blue Angels, so they hold a special place in our hearts, here in the Florida Panhandle. I have seen their shows over and over again, from Flint, Michigan to Pensacola, Florida, and I never cease to be amazed at their skill and love of flying.
Unfortunately, accidents happen, whether during an air show or during a training mission and two such events are currently on the news. I am surprised that more accidents don’t happen, considering how often our service men and women are training or serving in one capacity or another. I think that says a lot about them and their abilities.
jeff kuss pilotA special thank you goes out to Marine Captain Jeff Kuss, 32, who has been flying as one of the two solo pilots for the Blue Angels. He paid the ultimate price when his jet crashed as the Blues were preparing for an air show in Tennessee. My heart goes out to his wife and children.
The last Blue Angel crash was in 2007 and to me that shows us how very good these men and women are at what they do. Not just anyone can become a Blue Angel. They have stringent requirements and qualifications to meet, but their biggest hurdle is the team, who are the ultimate power when it comes to choosing their teammates.
The Blue Angels shows have been cancelled for the foreseeable future and they will be missed.
Pensacoleans are showing their “colors” on the 17th Street Bridge, which is also known as Graffiti Bridge. The City allows its people to paint the bridge and most of the artists are very respectful. Every so often they paint over the bridge and the artists begin anew…painting everything in sight…from the rocks, to the poles, to the bridge itself.17thCR2
Mr Wonderful and I saw photographs on Facebook, honoring our fallen soldier, and we knew we had to pay our respects. So we hopped in the car and drove downtown.
In honor of Jeff Kuss…
As we were driving home, the weather was warm and rainy and I marveled at the display that nature was providing. The sky is a wondrous place.
MY REVIEW
When my grandpa died, my mom thought he was murdered. To keep Kimmy, my sister,  and I safe, she sent us here, to Pensacola.
Jewels and I were sitting in her car with the radio blaring when he pulled up in his 370Z.
I was used to guys hitting on me at my old school, but I never knew if they were after me or my money. At my new school, I downplayed myself and tried to stay under the radar. He seemed interested in me for myself. I was drawn to Evan, but I had no intention of getting involved with anyone from Pensacola. I would be going home as soon as we straightened out the mess back in Palm Beach.
I left school, only to find my car wouldn’t start . I was going to  be late picking up Kimmy at her school. I panicked. Evan told me he could give me a ride, but no way was I going to let that happen. I didn’t want anyone knowing anything about us. I saw he was getting very angry and I began to feel the first inkling of fear. The custodian came and saved me. He popped the hood and saw the battery cable was loose. I know that doesn’t just happen by itself.
The next day at school I saw we had another new addition, Ryan. He was hot and, even though it was obvious Jewels was interested in him, he seemed more interested in me.
I finally broke down and invited Evan to church. I ended up blurting out my whole story. Still something about him scared me, made me not trust him. Then why did I tell him my secrets? Could it get me killed?
Which guy was good and which was bad, Evan or Ryan? Who cared for her and who wanted her dead?
4 STARS – Would Highly Recommend To Others
The cover is deceiving. When you read the book, it will become obvious why it was chosen, as will the title.
I was drawn to the book because it mentioned Pensacola High School. I thought, cool, I know Pensacola very well. I was curious to see if I traveled the same roads as Annalisa. We drove down Cervantes and Fairfield, the scenery very familiar to me.
The book started out like I thought it would. A lot of teenage angst. A menage a trois. l never saw the twist it took coming. Caught me by surprise, but drew me deep into their story. I began developing my own hopes and dreams for them. Then I began racing through the pages, eager to see what would happen next.
Annalisa was not a big risk taker. She was secretive. No one at school was wise to her capabilities; but she knew martial arts and could drive the wheels off most any car. She thought her mom was going crazy. She didn’t believe that her Grandpa had been murdered.
She had a voice like an angel. She sang Christian rock. I always think that is odd, Rock n Roll bands and church. But why not?
Evan was hot, but he seemed older than a high school student should be. More than once, Evan said something that would puzzle and scare her, but she never took the time to think it through.
Ryan was hot, too. She was suspicious of him, because he knew about rich people and Palm Beach. Did he know who she was?
Mentioned Hoobastank on the Ipod he sent to her. “The Reason” was the only song on it. I saw them at Amos Studio, at Pensacola State College. I had never heard of them before then and the first song they sang was, you guessed it, “The Reason”. I thought, small world.
This is an awesome book. I loved it. I thought the premise was ridiculous, at first. Then I thought of all the Criminal Minds I have watched. Didn’t seem so ridiculous then, because I love Criminal Minds and some of their storylines are way out there.
I read the Prologue for unforgivable. Now I have to know what happens. A must read for me. I am so hooked, even though I feel the journey they take would never happen in real life, only through the author’s words. But that’s cool. It is a book after all, fantasy and fiction.
I can’t give it a five, because of too many editing errors.
I received this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.
Quotes
“Life is a dally experience. God gives us a fresh chance every morning to discover what’s out there.”
FOTM – Flavor  of the Month
“Maybe the old saying about keeping your friends close and your enemies closer came about because your enemies could sometimes be more interesting.”
“This could get ironic, the hitman gets emotional and the victim goes cold.”
I have been shooting the Blue Angels here in Pensacola for many years and this is the first time I have captured this.
This is one of the most amazing photos I have taken of them as they come through at low altitude, screaming and creating an amazing vortex of speed and condensation.
