 Book Beginnings

The steady slap, slap, slap of Taron’s sandals echoed off the rough stone walls. He checked his sword, made sure his tunic and pants were properly fastened and wondered if he’d ever get used to this absurd style of clothing.

After a lifetime in scholarly robes, it was difficult to believe these new designs were more practical, though he had to admit that the pants didn’t tangle around his legs the way his robes often had. Of course, he’d rarely had to rush as he rushed now, hurrying down the dark and empty utility tunnel toward the training grounds.

“Okay,” Willow nodded, thinking of how they’d gone about this before. “In the past, we had to destroy the avatars before the Demon King could get the demonic life force. How can it hunt them on its own?”

.“I imagine because it has Ed. Once the Demon King gets complete control of Ed’s body, it can use it to destroy whatever avatars the lesser demons have taken over. If they’re in inanimate objects, he can take the demon’s soul, but if he has to kill a living avatar, he’ll get the soul of the innocent victim as well as the demonic soul. We can’t let that happen. It will give him too much power, make him too strong for us to fight him. We’ll have to be prepared tonight.”

AMAZON SYNOPSIS

The Demon King still lives, stronger than ever, devouring souls in search of immortality. Against him stands the scholar Taron, a newly-minted warrior of Lemuria, and Willow, a woman of unearthly loveliness, born of mist…Taron must pass through the waterfall of molten gold that shields the secret portal to his beloved land. His brilliant mind and the speaking sword called CrystalFire are his weapons against evil. But nothing can protect him from the power of love. Willow, whom he once knew as a sprite who could dance in his hand, has been changed by a master stroke of magic into the form of a beautiful, highly sensual woman, desiring a thousand pleasures that she insists he alone can give her. Innocent and eager, Willow arouses his deepest needs and sexual hunger – and his love. He will risk all to save her, even if it means a battle to the death with the ultimate foe…

  1. I’ve only read one Kate Douglas book, and it was Dark Wolf. It was way too erotica for my tastes, but perhaps I’ll have better luck with this series as it seems to fall more into the Urban Fantasy category.

    • I know what you mean Carmel. Sometimes I grab a book, not realizing it’s erotica. They can be good, but not something I would go after. This is not one of those and I think you may enjoy it. Thanks for visiting and have a great weekend.

    • I really enjoyed the book and will be reviewing it soon. It is not the first book in the series, but it didn’t ruin my enjoyment. Happy reading and have a fun weekend.

    • I know what you mean, Katherine. This is a series I want to read more of. We all like different things and that is good for authors. ^_^

  2. I didn’t realize that Kate Douglas had moved away from erotica. Not sure I’d read this but I do like Taron’s thoughts about the change in clothing. It’s hard to trade one uniform for another .

  3. Thank you so much for posting about CrystalFire! For those who question the level of sex, this is not erotic. It was released through the Zebra imprint from Kensington, not their Aphrodisia imprint (which my Wolf Tales series launched in 2006–VERY erotic, over-the-top sexiness) Carmel mentioned Dark Wolf, which is a continuation of the Wolf Tales series in a new series called Spirit Wild. Those are now coming out through Beyond the Page Publishing.

However if you are at all interested, I’m with a new publisher, St. Martin’s Press, writing a romantic suspense series that, while sexy, is not at all erotic. The first story, a novella, will be out in May 2015 in an anthology called Hot Alphas–my story, Tangled, takes place here in the Sonoma Co. Wine Country where I live. The first two novels, Intimate and Redemption, will be out in December 2015 and January 2016.

    Hope you enjoy the stories!

  4. So this isn’t erotica? Even though that wouldn’t stop me from reading it. We’ve had some awesome reads in the erotic genre. I wouldn’t want to miss a good story over that. I’ll just blush and keep reading. LOL

    • I really enjoyed it and will be reviewing it soon. Thanks for your comment Anna! 🙂
