I am trying to remember how I found Scarlett West….Somehow I had grabbed a free copy of Stolen In The Dark and after I reviewed it, she offered me Hunted In The Dark and a chance to join her ARC list…and I jumped all over it.

MY REVIEW

Enemy In The dark is the fourth book (out of five) in the Fae Bureau of Investigation series. I love being in their magical world, fighting and romancing. I love action packed books, and we have plenty.

Steamy romance…is it erotica? All these genre distinctions confuse me.

The Oracle has decreed that Adalee must kill her fated mate, Damien, but she is determined to find a way to prevent that from coming true. I have a thought and I am curious to see how it all comes about.

A false king. Faery kidnappings. A Black Hole.

They have to find the missing Ancients and the relics to close the rift.

Adalee has been finding herself as a Fae, learning her magic and the skills necessary to be a valued member of the FBI. The characters learn to function as a team, one just as important as the other.

In the first half, we have lots of hot steamy romance, as Adalee and Damien finally commit to being together. About half way through, the action picked up, the suspense rising as the pace flows smoothly to the dangerous cliff hanging ending and I can hardly wait for Fated In The Dark (expected publication December 2, 2022. I know what I want Santa to bring me for Christmas. 🙂

Books in the series do not stand alone. I recommend beginning with Stolen In The Dark, and all five books will need to be read to get the full story.

Giveaway – Blood On His Lips Alisyn Fae by @EmmaAlisyn @XpressoTours

Blood On His Lips
Alisyn Fae
(The Fae Prince of Everenne, #2)
Publication date: May 27th 2022
Genres: Adult, Fantasy, Romance

Blood on his lips. Power in his touch. A maelstrom in his eyes.

The Prince, an Old One, High Lord of House Montague, is fixated on claiming me. The weight of his grip crushes my throat, and resistance is . . . well.

Futile.

I am Aerinne Capulette, last daughter of Faronne, and survival forces me to accept he killed my mother, that he will drag me to his bed fighting and cursing as he laughs.

But I will not accept the subjugation of my House, my family, my friends. If any blood coats my hands, it will be his.

My unknown power stirs, and with it a glimmer of understanding. Of course he wants me for more than my body. For why am I the only person in the city who can see the shape of his power?

Renaud is power. He plays the long game.

. . .and if you wish to walk the board as queen, and not as pawn, you will play it too, my halfling.

I have said you have no choice. You anchor my sanity.

I have also said I will make you strong enough to bear me. You have noted the storm gathering on the horizon? Scented smoke and crushed blooms in the air?

Yes. A danger that eclipses us both approaches.

I will destroy you before I allow you to be taken. I do not yield what is mine.

But. . .if you submit, it may not come to such a pass. Your darkness may yet rise stronger than my own.

Give yourself to me, and I will give you answers. And then, my halfling, I will teach you to rule.

Blood On His Lips is an adult high heat, dark romantic fantasy, second in the Fae Prince of Everenne series. This not a standalone and ends in a cliffhanger. Book one must be read first.

For readers who crave enemies-to-lovers, obsessed dark heroes, murderous heroines, a battle of dark wills and enjoy authors such as Jennifer L. Armentrout, Michelle Sagara, Kathryn Ann Kingsley, and Laura Thalassa.

EXCERPT:

A time or two in my past, I’d had to accept a significant wound in order to walk away from a fight with my life.

So I’d walk this edge with Renaud, and take the cuts that came from playing this particular game with an Old One, but my blood wouldn’t be the only blood spilled.

The wildness that had risen in me to fight off the invader rose again. I angled his head and took his mouth. His lips parted, and I slipped my tongue between, beginning a slow duel that morphed into something frenzied. His hands slid up my torso, and he cupped my breasts. I let him play, and each time he tried to control the kiss, I punished him.

My grip in his hair wasn’t gentle. My nails pricked his scalp. My teeth scraped his lips. I drew blood, felt pain as he returned the loving gesture in kind, with interest.

Damn. I hadn’t meant to draw blood.

Renaud pulled his head away from me, his eyes flashing purple for one preternatural second. I blinked, but perhaps I was imagining it.

“What are you offering?” The words were guttural.

Blood stained his lips, and as I watched he licked it away, the movement slow, sensual. Taunting. Definitely warning. We both knew this particular game was above my skill level—for now. I was a quick study when I wanted to be.

But I couldn’t peel my gaze away from those lips, the stain of crimson. I wanted more. His taste on my tongue, his breath in my lungs.

Leaning forward, I intended to take more of him, but his hands left my breasts, and he halted me with a firm grip on my jaw.

taguritfinal2

This is where myself (Sherry at fundinmental) and Laura at fuonlyknew tag team authors and their books. We share our reviews and giveaways, giving you two views and two chances to win!

Dinosaur Lake V…what can I say? Kathryn Meyer Griffith had told me the series was over, but the characters wouldn’t quit talking to her. I LOVE THAT! And she blew me away with the fifth book in the series. How she keeps her stories fresh and original is amazing and that is why she is one of my go to authors.

I LOVE that fabulous cover. Doesn’t it draw you in, making you want to know more? Dawne Dominique does her covers and I would love to tell her she does an A+ job.

MY REVIEW

Woo Hoo! It has been five years since the Dino Wars and I have spent any time with Henry and Ann. I am so glad to visit and catch up on what’s been happening…and will happen.

The dinosaurs, at least most of them, are gone. BUT, knowing Kathryn Meyer Griffith, the horror is yet to come. They had lived through some interesting times. They were prepared, if the dinosaurs returned. My question is…many of the characters I got involved with in the early books are gone, so who is left to kill off, Kathryn?

I love that Anne has a money making blog. Seems a natural progression from the newspaper she had worked for, owned, then sold. It seemed Kathryn didn’t think dinosaurs were bad enough, she had to give her cancer too. But she was in remission and they spent a lot of their time enjoying their golden years from the front porch of their cabin and traveling. She even got Henry to let her use some of his photographs from their adventures.

Their home is not their beloved cabin at Crater Lake, but they worked hard to make it into one they love.

Henry had retired, but he was still ‘the man’ as far as the Rangers were concerned. He knew everything there was to know about Crater Lake, so when Oscar came knocking on the window, he was notified…ASAP.

How smart are the dinosaurs? Can they think complex thoughts? Do they hold grudges? Do they want revenge?

Henry had a small edge over other humans. His visitor, Oscar. He likes and respects Henry. He also needs ‘the sticks’ to help him. There are no such things as unicorns, demons, or evil dinosaurs. But, in my world, there is.

Oscar stole the show! You can’t kill him off Kathryn. He’s a hero, risking it all for his special friend, Henry, and his progeny.

Excellent tension and pacing. The feeling of impending doom oozes from every page. I wait. I fear.

WOW, I didn’t see that coming and I love it. Book surprises are the best.

My biggest question, Kathryn…will there be more? I love that some of the characters refuse to die, refuse to go away, haunting your dreams, demanding more. Is there more of the story to be told?

GOODREADS BLURB

The predatory dinosaurs, amphibious, land-crawlers, air flyers, small and large, were dead; dead in all the forests, mountains, deserts, towns and cities of America and across the planet. They were still hunted, sought and exterminated when found, and these rogue beasts were becoming rarer every day. The humans’ dinosaur killing serum and extermination practices had worked far better than anyone had prayed and they had eventually freed the planet of its primordial scourge. The earth belonged to the humans once more and all its lands were safe–or so the world, Henry Shore, former Chief Park Ranger at Crater Lake National Park, and his wife, Ann, had believed…until one day years later two new dinosaurs, craftier than any the earth had ever seen, appeared. One of them was benevolent, a friend to mankind, and the other was not. It was blood-thirsty, eerily intelligent and unbelievably vengeful. This dinosaur wouldn’t be so easy to kill. *** Dinosaur Lake V: Survivors is the fifth book in the Dinosaur Lake series by Kathryn Meyer Griffith.

Since childhood I’ve been an artist and worked as a graphic designer in the corporate world and for newspapers for twenty-three years before I quit to write full time. But I’d already begun writing novels at 21, over forty-six years ago now, and have had twenty-seven (nine romantic horror, two horror novels, two romantic SF horror, one romantic suspense, one romantic time travel, one historical romance, four thrillers, one non-fiction short story collection, and six murder mysteries) previous novels, two novellas and twelve short stories published from various traditional publishers since 1984. But I’ve gone into self-publishing in a big way since 2012; and upon getting all my previous books’ full rights back for the first time in 35 years, have self-published all of them. My Dinosaur Lake novels and Spookie Town Murder Mysteries (Scraps of Paper, All Things Slip Away, Ghosts Beneath Us, Witches Among Us and What Lies Beneath the Graves) are my best-sellers.

I’ve been married to Russell for over forty years; have a son, two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter and I live in a small quaint town in Illinois. We have a quirky cat, Sasha, and the three of us live happily in an old house in the heart of town. Though I’ve been an artist, and a folk/classic rock singer in my youth with my late brother Jim, writing has always been my greatest passion, my butterfly stage, and I’ll probably write stories until the day I die…or until my memory goes.

Who Will Survive? Sister of Shadows by Eric Kent Edstrom @ekedstrom

.

I have been reading the Scion Chronicles since the beginning, The Daughter of Nothing by Eric Kent Edstrom. Sister of Shadows is the third book and all I can say is Eric did not let me down.

Sister of Shadows (The Scion Chronicles #3)

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

The evil of humanity oozes from the pages in the third book, Sister of Shadows by Eric Kent Edstrom. I am loving the series and can hardly wait to see how he wraps it up in the fourth and final book.

Sister of Shadows picks up where Child of Lies left off, so reading in order is necessary. I have loved each story, watching the children struggle to survive as they discover who they really are and why they were ‘born’.

The topic raises ethical and moral issues, while pointing out how power and money corrupt and some people will stop at nothing to get what they want.

I have a lot of notes, but because this is the third book, I tossed them to the wind. I will not spoil all the twists, turns and surprises that Eric has piled onto these resilient children. I have watched them grown and develop into young adults, pushed beyond anything they ever could have conceived. I have watched their leadership skills rise to the forefront, their maturity and creativity grow at a fast pace, forced because of their circumstances.

They make a run for freedom, for life, and the treachery and danger that follows them kept me in suspense, wondering who will survive, because Eric doesn’t hesitate to kill off his characters. I hope they haunt him at night. LOL One of my favorite newbies is Meow Meow and if you read the story you will see why. This girl is off the charts, afraid of nothing.

I find the story unique and original, and it sticks in my head. It is hard to surprise me with something new and different, so this is a refreshing story. A story that keeps on giving a high level of tension and pacing, keeping my total attention.

I laughed, I cried, I raged and I sighed…knowing Eric has more to come.

I Love Rooting For The Rebels – Stuck by Samantha Durante @SamanthaDurante

On Tour with Prism Book Tours
Book Tour Launch for Stuck By Samantha Durante
Note from the Author
I am *so* thrilled to be kicking off the Stuck (Stitch Trilogy, Book 3) tour! We’ve got lots of awesome stops planned with exclusive Stitch Trilogy content you won’t find anywhere else, plus a big giveaway to celebrate the arrival of the long-awaited conclusion of the series!
I’d be so honored if you would follow along with Prism Tours and share in the excitement!
In case you’re new to the series, here’s a short (fan-produced!) trailer to whet your appetite:

Hi Sherry! Thank you so much for having me back at Fundimental and for all of your support with the series!  Your enthusiasm for the Stitch Trilogy has meant *so* much to me, and I hope your readers will love it just as much!

1. What made you decide to be a writer?

I don’t know if it was a *decision* so much as a compulsion!  I’ve always loved to write, ever since I was a kid.  I got away from it for a few years in college and afterwards, but even as a software engineer, I managed to“sneak” writing into my job.  So when it came time for a major life change (moving back across the country to be near my family), I knew it was a good time to see if I could shift gears and get back to doing what I’d always loved.

2. Tell us how you choose your covers.

A LOT goes into choosing covers for my books – my cover designer must groan whenever my name pops up in his inbox.  🙂  The Stitch Trilogy has been particularly challenging since it spans the genres of dystopian sci-fi and paranormal romance, and (in Book 1 especially) has some major twists that completely change the direction of the story.  So it was hard to find a design that incorporated all that, plus hinted at major plot points and introduced the characters, and created a theme that would still be relevant for the remaining books in the series.  (In fact, I have a whole guest post devoted to this topic which you can find at another stop on this tour!)  In the end, though, I think we managed it –readers have been very vocal about their love for the covers!

3. How do you choose names for your characters and do you have a favorite?

The names for my characters tend to just “come to me” – I can’t really explain it.  It’s almost like apart of the character and not something I “choose.”  But I do also try to be deliberate about looking up the meanings of the names to make sure they fit who that character is.  I think my favorite would have to be Alessa, the protagonist in the Stitch Trilogy. (In fact, I’ve had loved ones tell me to just stop pretending like it isn’t my favorite and go ahead and give it to one of my children, lol.)  I just think it’s such a pretty name and not very common, so it feels sort of futuristic and appropriate for science fiction.  Also, the meaning is “defender of the people” which I think is pretty fitting for a heroine!

4. If the series were ever made into a movie, who would the actors/actresses be?

Ooohh, this is another one that I could (and, in fact, did) write an entire post about (in another guest post for this tour!).  🙂  My favorites for Alessa and Isaac are Emmy Rossum and Alex Pettyfer, who I chose specifically because they look like those characters (obviously) but they also aren’t household names, so they could really become Alessa and Isaac, if I was ever so lucky to see Stitch on the big screen.  But it’s so hard to pick!!  These characters all originated in my head, so no one is really perfect for the role, and I’m always open to suggestions! Who do you see when you picture these characters??

5. Do you have a favorite author? What are you reading now?

I have several favorite authors, but the one I’ve been most loving in recent years is Diana Gabaldon and her Outlander books.  Her character building is just so, so good; I love all of her main characters and am so invested in everything that happens to them.  I just can’t put those books down, and I wish they would go on forever and ever and ever.  I’m also (like half the population of planet Earth) a HUGE Game of Thrones fan, so I am eagerly awaiting GRRM’s next release!

6. Tell us something personal about yourself.

Even though much of my series revolves around the characters’ grief, I actually did not have much personal experience in that department when I wrote the first two books of the trilogy. And then, shortly after I published Shudder in 2013, I lost my first child, Alana, at birth to a cord accident, just two days before her due date. Needless to say, I have since become intimately acquainted with grief and all of its ravages and quirks.  (And reading back, I’m surprised at how well managed to capture the experience of grief in Books 1 & 2 – I have to chalk that up to reading what had been written about it from other, more talented writers!)  So that enormous loss and learning to live with the absence of one of the people I love most in this world has really changed my perspective as a human being and given me a deeper level of insight into my writing.  My hope is that that really shines through in Book 3 and resonates with readers who have experienced losses of their own.  :’-)

 Thanks for joining us!! Samantha

MY REVIEW

I remember when I first saw Stitch, Book I of the Stitch Trilogy by Samantha Durante. I had to have it! I fell in love with the story and the characters and have patiently waited as each book became available, then devoured it.

The Engineers manufactured world is the total opposite of the dystopian world of poverty and desolation the rebels live in. Myself, I love rooting for the underdog and the rebels need my help. Here I come guys.

I love that Alessa and Isaac act together, but what about Joe? I think he will be playing a very important part in the story, I just won’t be able to tell you about it. LOL

“Poor bugger got stuck.”

And the monsters were born!

Extermination, extinction, a virus, the end of the world, a man-made apocalypse, secrets, unlikely allies, and a very special girl.

This is one of those books that gets my motor running into overdrive. The elite feel they are  the be all end all and to hell with everybody else. OMG! I knew the evil bastards would do something, but I didn’t see that coming. Could it be true?

The writing of the trilogy took place over a five year time span. I think it would have been better if I went back and read the series from the beginning and I will be doing that some time. I have a feeling it will change my rating.

That being said, once the previous books began to come to mind, I was able to bring myself up to date. The story became intense and I was happy to add Alex and Deion to my group of friends. I found it easy to get lost in their world, their struggles, their regrets, loss, hope and love. the writing made the story unfold as if I was watching it on the big screen.

As Samantha Durante brings the trilogy to a close, it brought tears to my eyes. I felt happy with the characters endings. BUT, man oh man, Joe…well, I saw that , and Lizzie, oh Lizzie…I can’t tell you any more without ruining it for you.

If you love having your emotions ramped up to a fever pitch, if you love white knuckled reading, if you love apocalyptic/dystopian novels and are looking for an original storyline, you may want to grab the Stitch trilogy.

ABOUT THE BOOK

3, 2, 1… BOOM.

Things are finally looking up for the Resistance. Sure, Alessa is still processing the revelation that the best friend she’d presumed dead is miraculously alive, though far from well… And her boyfriend is being manipulated under threat of blackmail. But her quest for justice against those behind the systematic extermination of the world population is so close to victory she can taste it.

And then in a matter of seconds, everything Alessa believes in is shaken to the core. Months of preparation are obliterated. The people she cares for most are lost.

But Alessa is still standing. And Paragon must pay.

The odds are grim, but unexpected allies surface in the most unlikely of places: A new pair of citizens still under the colony’s rule who notice something amiss in the latest drama. An old adversary who realizes the error of her ways. And a veritable army of inhuman power and terrible strength, with an insatiable thirst for vengeance.
