GOODREADS BLURB

Big Girl Panties by Stephanie Evanovich is a rollicking and poignant romantic comedy about a young widow who decides to get in shape…and winds up getting her groove back–and a whole lot more! Holly Brennan used food to comfort herself through her husband’s illness and death. Now she’s alone at age thirty-two. And she weighs more than she ever has. When fate throws her in the path of Logan Montgomery, personal trainer to pro athletes, and he offers to train her, Holly concludes it must be a sign. Much as she dreads the thought of working out, Holly knows she needs to put on her big girl panties and see if she can sweat out some of her grief. Soon, the easy intimacy and playful banter of their training sessions lead Logan and Holly to most intense and steamy workouts. But can Holly and Logan go the distance as a couple now that she’s met her goals–and other men are noticing?

Next up on the shelf is Ten Big Ones by Janet Evanovich.

I have several of her books on my shelf, so I put them in the random generator and Ten Big Ones, a Stephanie Plum novel, popped out.

I love Stephanie Plum and her sidekick, Lula. Feeling down, pick up one of these babies and I think you will perk right up. 🙂

Ten Big Ones (Stephanie Plum, #10)

MY FRIDAY 56

“Fuckin’ A. Oh crap!” Snap. Snap.

“You gotta remember about fudge,” Grandma said.

Sally nodded. “Fudgin’ A.”

We all did a mental eeyeuuw. Fudgin’ A didn’t sound tasty coming out of Sally’s mouth.

(page 56 in hardcover)

MY BOOK BEGINNINGS

The way I see it, life is a jelly doughnut. You don’t really know what it’s about until you bite into it. And then, just when you decide it’s good you drop a big glob of jelly on your best T-shirt.

GOODREADS SYNOPSIS

“I’m Stephanie Plum. My mother says that I’m famous and have to set a good example. She’s right, but I’m from Jersey and truth is, I have a hard time getting a grip on the good example thing.”

Swing off the Jersey Turnpike and you’ll be in bounty hunter Stephanie Plum’s neighborhood. You’ll know it because all hell will be breaking loose. Not that she looks for trouble – it just seems to follow her. In Ten Big Ones it explodes at a deli, and when Stephanie pegs a robber as a member of a vicious Trenton gang, they peg her as dead. Vice cop Joe Morelli fears she’s in way too deep – even with the help of crime-solving, cross-dressing, bus driver Sally Sweet, and Stephanie’s friend Lula riding shotgun as backup. With a notorious killer on her tail, Stephanie figures the best hideout is Ranger’s secret lair…

MY REVIEW

I saw The Knights Before Christmas by Joan Holub and I thought, what better way to kick off the upcoming holiday season than with a classic, of sorts.

Written with humor and wit, what child wouldn’t delight in feeling they are a hero by saving the castle from the invaders, even if it is Santa.

The Knights Before Christmas Joan Holub Scott Magoon pages 12

There will be “reindeer” and Santa and gifts galore.

They will cower with fear, yet man the walls.

The book is large and thin, making it easy for the small hands in the household to hold onto. My biggest concern is the pages in those grasping little hands, how well will they hold up.

The illustrations describe the action, word by word, in vivid color.

A fun book to add to a child’s reading list, but I was left a bit confused at the ending. Santa bad? And a Trojan Horse? How would a 5 – 8 year old child respond to it?

I have not reviewed many children’s books, but these are my thoughts. Am I being too harsh? Your thoughts may be quite different, so be sure and check it out for yourself.

I received a copy of The Knights Before Christmas by Joan Holub in return for an honest review.
