MY REVIEW

I always want to love a Kathy Reichs novel and I did enjoy and do recommend The Bone Hacker, but it fell a little short for me to love it. I do enjoy the adventure of heading to the Turks and Caicos, a place I have never been, but loved learning about, murder and all.

I smiled and laughed at the picture her words brought to mind of her dog, Birdie, sitting at the table minding her manners so she can eat with her human family.

A death in Canada has her on a plane to the Turks and Caicos faster than she can think, WTH. And there my confusion begins. Kathy Reichs has so much going on that doesn’t seem to connect in any way. I know to be patient, that most authors will bring it all together and once I have the full picture it all makes sense.

For an established author like Kathy Reich, I have very high expectations and look for excellence. I did not find that here, but Musgrove, then Monk grew on me. Island life doesn’t function the same as on the mainland, and I love the individuality of the characters.

I didn’t find anything earth shattering, but The Bone Hacker did have its moments. It confirmed for me…privacy is an illusion. If half of what I read in the book was true, unless you are completely off the grid, big brother is watching.

I enjoyed The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs, but it was not one of my favorites. Regardless, I am sure I will pick up the next book of hers I see.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs.

GOODREADS BLURB

#1 New York Times bestselling author Kathy Reichs returns with her twenty-second high-stakes thriller featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan who, following a series of bizarre disappearances on the islands of Turks and Caicos, enters a sinister labyrinth in which a new technology may wreak worldwide havoc.

Called in to examine what is left of a body struck by lightning, Tempe traces an unusual tattoo to its source and is soon embroiled in a much larger case. Young men—tourists—have been disappearing on the islands of Turks and Caicos for years. Seven years ago, the first victim was found in a strange location with both hands cut off; the other visitors vanished without a trace. But, recently, tantalizing leads have emerged and only Tempe can unravel them.

Maddeningly, the victims seem to have nothing in common—other than the strange locations where their bodies are eventually found, and the fact that the young men all seem to be the least likely to be involved in foul play. Do these attacks have something to do with the islands’ seething culture of gang violence? Tempe isn’t so sure. And then she turns up disturbing clues that what’s at stake may actually have global significance.

It isn’t long before the sound of a ticking clock grows menacingly loud, and then Temper herself becomes a target.

She’s Back – Bones Never Lie by Kathy Reichs @KathyReichs @randomhouse #Journey

.

I’ll never so no to a Kathy Reichs novel, so when I saw this while browsing NetGalley, I grabbed it. But, it was a long time ago. I downloaded it on 7.1.14. ‘hanging my head in shame’ Thanks so much to NetGalley and Random House Publishing. Soooo here we go.

Bones Never Lie (Temperance Brennan, #17)

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Anique Pomerleau. The monster. The only one who ever got away.

And she’s back, so the chase is one and this time Temperance is determined to get her. She would need the help of her lost love, Andrew Ryan. He had vanished, when his daughter died. Would he come back to help her? Could she even find him?

I love that she calls her cat Bird. Love those funny little bits with my murder and danger.

Missing girls are a trigger for me. I want to see the ‘hero’ catch the villain and I don’t care how they do and whether it’s dead or alive.

Tempe had come face to face with her before and lost. I don’t think she will this time. Kathy Reichs always spins a tale that engulfs me in the danger and fear for the characters. She confounds me, leading me down a dark path of questions and answers. She has never disappointed me.

GOODREADS BLURB

In the acclaimed author’s thrilling new novel, Brennan is at the top of her game in a battle of wits against the most monstrous adversary she has ever encountered.

Unexpectedly called in to the Charlotte PD’s Cold Case Unit, Dr. Temperance Brennan wonders why she’s been asked to meet with a homicide cop who’s a long way from his own jurisdiction. The shocking answer: Two child murders, separated by thousands of miles, have one thing in common – the killer. Years ago, Anique Pomerleau kidnapped and murdered a string of girls in Canada, then narrowly eluded capture. It was a devastating defeat for her pursuers, Brennan and police detective Andrew Ryan. Now, as if summoned from their nightmares, Pomerleau has resurfaced in the United States, linked to victims in Vermont and North Carolina. When another child is snatched, the reign of terror promises to continue – unless Brennan can rise to the challenge and make good on her second chance to stop a psychopath.

But Brennan will have to draw her bitter ex-partner out of exile, keep the local police and feds from one another’s throats, and face more than just her own demons as she stalks the deadliest of predators into the darkest depths of madness.

In Bones Never Lie, Kathy Reichs never fails to satisfy readers looking for psychological suspense that’s more than skin-deep.

Another Exciting Thriller – Two Nights by Kathy Reichs @KathyReichs

I would like to thank Kathy Reichs and Random House for the opportunity to share my thoughts on Two Nights.

I am a huge fan of the Temperance Brennan novels and the Bones TV show, so any time I get a chance to read a Kathy Reichs story, I am all over it. She has never let me down when it comes to a thriller that keeps on giving and I am eager to meet a new character.

Two Nights

Amazon  /  Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I love Kathy Reichs and she has never let me down when it comes to a great read. She continues to keep me enthralled in Two Nights. I am eager to meet a new character, Sunday Night.

We begin on Goat Island, which is like Mackinac Island, but more rustic, consisting of shacks with no power or septic…the mosquitoes run rampant. It made me think of a visit to Chappaquiddick, where I thought they would carry me away.

I couldn’t help but chuckle when Gus is hiding things before letting Bean, the  cop into his home. Gus had been a cop too, but quit after a justified shooting could have cost him his life. Now, the only way to reach him is by boat or carrier pigeon.

Sunnie is now on the search for a missing teen that may have been taken by a cult. Sunday Night, what a name. I like her, her solitude and enjoyment of the thrill of the hunt. She has a sarcastic attitude, some would consider rude and I can relate to that.

I love a damaged heroine and we have one here. Headstrong, determined, dangerous, she can hold her own, but she knows when to call in help. She needs someone covering her back.

Stella was calling to her and she would find her.

Cults, some seriously creepy people and things happen. When I think of cults, the first thing that pops into my mind is Jim Jones and the horrifying deaths in Guyana. I can never understand giving up everything, putting your life entirely in someone else’s hands.

The clock is ticking…Time is running out. If she’s alive, what kind of shape will she be in? What have they done to her, both mentally and physically?

State by state, clue by clue, step by step, her and Gus search for Stella and the one that holds her.

I don’t want to spoil Stella’s story but how she endures, I do not know. STRONG is a weak word in describing how very determined she is to survive. The terror and torture would be the end of some of the strongest men and women.

Stella tells some of her story in short chapters that had my emotions and respect for her….one eyed, kickass, take no prisoners, been through hell and back but never quits fight to survive.

Cults, terrorism, damaged heroes, and characters that will tug at your heartstrings and scare the hell out of you. You think you know what’s going on and how the story will end, but think again.

Kathy Reichs had me shaking my head, picking my jaw up off the floor and congratulating her on one hell of a ride in the life and soul of Sunny Nights. This ain’t no BONES you’re reading about.

Book Beginnings

As the tune played inside my head, gunfire exploded in the cramped underground space around me.

GOODREADS BLURB: The bones of three young women are unearthed in the basement of a Montreal pizza parlor, and forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan has unsolved murder on her mind as she examines the shallowly buried remains. Coming up against a homicide cop who is convinced the dead have been entombed on the site for centuries, Tempe perseveres, even with her own relationship with Detective Andrew Ryan at a delicate turning point. In the lab, the clean, well-perserved bones offer few clues. But when Carbon 14 confirms her hunch that these were recent deaths despite the antique buttons found near the bodies, Tempe’s probing must produce answers quickly to stop a killer whose grisly handiwork has seen the light of day.

Review: Speaking in Bones by Kathy Reichs

Speaking in Bones is another Kathy Reichs winner for me. I am an avid fan and watch all the Bones shows on TV too. I just cannot get enough of Temperance Brennan.

Add me to Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I am a huge fan of Temperance Brennan and Kathy Reichs, so I am always eager for the next book, Speaking in Bones. How Kathy Reichs is able to come up with a fresh case of crime is always a pleasure for me to read about.

This time, we have some help, or do we?

Websleuths – amateurs compete online to solve cold cases.

Hazel (Lucky) Strike, one of the websleuths thinks she knows who the unidentified body is and calls Temperance to tell her. She thinks it is a woman by the name of Cora Teague. Little did Hazel realize, she should have kept a low profile.

Ryan and Temperance make a fantastic team, but are plagued with personal problems. He had walked away, but was back, proposing marriage. What answer will Temperance give him?

Temperance’s mother is alone, fighting cancer and loves a mystery. She’s an insomniac and deft at searching the internet. I love this strong and determined character. She does not dwell on the bad, but continues living. She discovers something and places a call to Temperance, early in the morning, jolting her into work mode.

The explanations for some of the technical aspects make it easy to follow along. Even if I don’t understand everything, I don’t feel it hurts the story in any way.

Speaking in Bones is another great mystery and I love following along with Temperance as she discovers the answers. Her relationship with Ryan keeps me wondering…when will they finally get together. I have always believed they would. They are perfect for each other..yin and yang.

Imagine never knowing where your loved one is, just gone. Thank goodness Temperance never gives up until she has the answers.

So much is going on that I struggle to predetermine the outcome. Not knowing what the ending will be keeps me waiting for her next book, her next unknown study in the evil that men/women do.

I received of copy of Speaking in Bones by Kathy Reichs in return for an honest review.
