Excerpt  Claiming the Evil Dead:
“Jessie Garrett,” he said, capturing my attention. “Twenty-four, single, computer technician, paranormal investigator…” He paused and directed his attention from the road to me.
I stared back at him and waited for him to say the word.
“Demon,” he finished.
“That’s not on my birth certificate.”
His lips twitched. “You’re a mystery to me.”
“Let’s keep it that way.”
I shifted one leg over the other. From my peripheral vision, I saw him watching me. I wore a knee-length black skirt with small, blue floral designs and three-inch black sandals. I’d selected the skirt thinking I would stay cooler. Now that I realized I had exposed my bare legs to his eyes, I wished I’d worn jeans.
“I have met a few demons in my existence, and I have to admit that none compare to you.”
I silently chuckled. What a sweet compliment. Maybe he had a warm personality hidden within that cold body of his. Maybe.
“Tell me, Jessie Garrett, where have you been hiding all these years?”
“You followed me and seem to know a lot about me. Why don’t you tell me?” I crossed my arms.
“How about a deal?”
“Another one?”
“Consider it an exchange. You tell me about yourself, and I’ll tell you whatever you want  to know about me.”
His proposal appealed to me. Since I was stuck in a car with him for the next three hours, and I had limited knowledge of vampires, why not cash in on a golden opportunity to learn more about him?
“Okay,” I said with a shrug. “But I get to ask the first question.”
He grinned. “Always a concession with you.”
I flashed a smile at him. He should have known that bargaining with a demon was never easy.

Excerpt Catching an Evil Tail:
I sat on the floor of my fancy suite with my back against the sofa, drinking my third bottle of expensive vodka. One minute, I hated the world and everyone, especially men. The next, I wanted to ball my eyes out over being alone. Remote in one hand and
bottle in the other, I flipped through the channels, searching for something violent, something horrific, or something that would appease my inner demon. One thing I knew for sure was that I hated Jeremy.
The time on the news channel showed it was past 1:00 a.m. Thanks to my pity party, I’d drowned into a world I hadn’t seen in a long time—not since college when Christopher and I split. Men—couldn’t live with them and couldn’t live without them. And
turning into a lesbian wouldn’t work for me. I needed a man to hold me, kiss me, and love me in the most passionate way. Why couldn’t I find such a man?
I gulped down another fourth of the bottle. The fiery liquor raised my temperature. Sweat beaded on my face and neck. As I lowered the bottle to my side, everything in the room started spinning while all worries and cares drifted away. Hell yeah, I was feeling damn good!
Hearing the click of the adjoining room door, I turned my head. The room spun,  but I managed to see two figures. They headed toward me.
“Wanna drink?” I held up the bottle as an offering. Two seconds later, I withdrew my offer. Screw sharing.
Jeremy squatted at my side. His body moved sideways and I busted out in laughter.
“Are we in an earthquake?” The words came out slurred.
“Is she drunk?” the man behind Jeremy asked.
I leaned sideways to get a look at the man, only my control didn’t exist and I nearly
crashed into the floor until Jeremy caught me. I laughed, then recognized the person behind Jeremy.
“Hey, I know you,” I said, pointing the bottle toward Ryan. “You’re Jeremy’s werewolf friend. Here, wolfie-wolfie.”
“How much has she had?” the werewolf asked.
Jeremy jerked the bottle from my hand.
“Hey, that’s mine.” I reached for it.
The room tilted and everything moved so fast that I gave up trying to reclaim my bottle before I could fell face-first on the floor.
“Here.” I pushed two empty bottles toward him. “You can have these, too. I don’t want them anymore.”
“Damn!” Ryan shouted. “I don’t think we should have left her alone.”
I giggled. “I had a great time.” I slapped my hand on my thigh. “With me, myself, and I.”
Jeremy’s fingers grazed my cheek as he brushed aside the hair from my face. “Where did you get the liquor?”
“Your fingers are so warm.” The snake tattoo on his arm captured my gaze.
He lifted my chin so my eyes met his. “Where did you get the bottles, Jessie?”
I drew in a deep breath. “I visited the lounge, and the manager served me a bottle. I asked if he’d sell me a couple, but he turned me down.” I jerked my chin away from him. Suddenly, the room started moving.
Jeremy put his hands on the sides of my face and brought my gaze back to his. “How did you get the bottles?”
Everything stopped spinning. “I showed him a little ass, and he sold them to me.” I smiled.
Ryan chuckled behind Jeremy, but the sound turned into a cough. “Sorry.”
I stared into Jeremy’s soft brown eyes. “You’re a fucker, Jeremy. A mean motherfucker.”
His lips pulled into a bright smile. “Now there’s the woman I love.”
I shoved him and he fell backward on his ass.

Excerpt Fighting Evil:
“Drake?” I gave him a questioning look with my brows closing in near my nose.
He approached me, threading his fingers through his long brown hair. His face was tight, his lips pressed together in a thin line. Dark eyes pierced me. “We need to talk.”
The tension claiming him had to be a result from my less than appropriate  appearance with Jeremy at the karate school.
“Is it about earlier?” I asked.
He stopped in front of me and gripped my shoulders. “What in God’s name were you doing without your clothes on?” His tone was deep, full of anger and concern.
“We were fighting. After he broke my neck—”
He growled, and he tightened his grip. “He broke your neck?”
“I made a stupid move—and that gave him time to remove my clothes. But when my bones healed, I beat the shit out of him. For once, I actually beat him.” I smiled, hoping Drake would find my accomplishment as worthy as I did.
The tightness in his face ebbed. “You created that bloody mess on his face?”
I lifted a shoulder. “He made me angry when he tried to take advantage of me.”
A smile spread across Drake’s face. “I hope I never make you that angry.”
“Don’t give me a reason, and you won’t have to worry.” Grinning, I recalled times when he had made me angry. After we’d first met, the ancient vamp and I had many communication issues. Add my lack of trust and our relationship went beyond tense. Yet, somehow, we worked out our problems and fell madly in love, a feat I never would have thought possible two months ago.
Drake’s gaze honed in on my mouth. He touched my chin and gently glided his thumb over my bottom lip, the repeatedly busted one. “I can heal this for you.” His voice was as soft as his touch and made my insides quiver.
My eyes drooped. “No, he’ll know.”
Slowly, he slid his hand down my arm, spawning an increase of goose flesh. “Are you saying we can’t even kiss now?”
Oh, I wanted to kiss his soft lips, enjoy the touch of his playful tongue, and feel his cool embrace wrapped around me. I hated we had to pretend we weren’t lovers. “Maybe when the cut is healed.” Denying a simple kiss felt worse than any hit or broken bone.
Drake wrapped his arms around me and crushed me to him. His energy passed through me in a peaceful wave. “My heart and soul long to be with you.”

I hugged him with all the strength I had while I breathed in his rosemary cedar wood scent. On the outside, his body was cool and solid, pleasing to my feverish flesh.  Inside, passionate love filled him. I wanted to hold onto him and his love forever. “You have no idea how much I want to forget about everything and just be alone with you.”

Excerpt  Love Conquers All Evil:
Lightly biting my tongue, I paced in the room. A violent demon stabbed people, then stole their souls and money. Why would a person—no, a demon—do such a thing? How long had they been killing? Did they just start, or was it an addiction? And why weren’t people fighting back? Was the demon taking their souls first? No, that couldn’t be the answer since the demon stabbed some of the victims in the back.
“You still have not told me what is on your mind,” Drake said.
I stopped pacing near the door. “I’m thinking about the kind of demons who steal
souls.”
“You know what I am talking about,” he said, smiling. “Our agreement from earlier. You owe me an answer and I intend to get it.”
Get it? Oh, I could give it, but why not make him work for it? “And I seem to recall
telling you to give me what I want and I will tell you. Well, Mr. Dark Eyes, you still owe me.”
“Mr. Dark Eyes?” Drake slowly rose from the chair. “I owe you?”
I took a step back, placing myself in the doorway. Any closer and I’d run. He’d have to catch me and work for the answer.
“I fulfilled my obligation,” he said, his head slightly tilted to the side. His pupils swelled.
I licked my lips. “Only to an extent. We were interrupted.”
“You are teasing me.” He took a step toward me.
Grinning, I darted down the hall, then raced down the stairs. Footsteps came fast behind me. I had no hope of escaping him, but that was all part of the fun. And he knew it.
Drake caught me two steps past the staircase. He picked me up and my legs flew in front of me. He carried me into the bedroom, all while I laughed, screamed a little, and wriggled in his arms. Reaching the bed, he let go and I fell onto the soft mattress.
I quickly twisted around to face him. Below his curled upper lip, two sharp teeth said hello. Amusement played on his face. He grabbed my legs and yanked me toward him.
“Do you refuse to tell me after we agreed—”
“Refuse is such a strong word. I don’t refuse. I simply want something in return,” I
said with a playful smile.
He lowered his body over mine, then rubbed his solid cock against me. Damn, he felt so good and ready.
“I intend to get my answer,” he said before he pressed his lips to mine. He kissed me tenderly.
I raked my fingers through his soft hair, brushing it away from his face. “Show me how badly you want it.”

After a quick tug, my shorts came off. He showed me how much he wanted my answer, repeatedly, until my body was sore, throbbing with ecstasy, and totally exhausted.

Excerpt Freedom From the Evil Dead:
Jeremy poured more vodka. “I missed our days of drinking together. We had some good times.” He set the bottle upright.
I stared at the glass. “You know I wouldn’t be here unless I needed your help. I’m putting your life in danger by coming here.”
“Yeah, well…” He gave a casual shrug with one of his shoulders. “I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for blue-eyed half-demons.”
I almost chuckled. Almost, then I grabbed the shot and downed it. The fluid warmed me again.
“In case you’ve forgotten, I’m quite capable of handling any vampires,” he said.
“The skill is a handy one.” I nodded.
He chuckled. “Nice choice of words.” He crossed his arms. “Now tell me what I can help you with.”
I breathed in deeply. “I want you to help me find Drake.”
The amusement on his face disappeared. “Seriously?”
“I don’t know if he’s alive—”
“He’s been dead for several centuries,” he interrupted, and I paused.
“I need proof he’s still here or…not. No pictures. No videos. I need to see with my own eyes if they destroyed him, or if they’re holding him hostage. If they are keeping him against his will, then I want him freed. And if they did destroy him…” I paused to gather more air. “I want them extinguished. And if by all means possible, I want to send their souls to Hell.”
Jeremy stared calmly at me, then he rose. He started pacing. “Let me get this  straight. You want me to help you find your old lover, whom I despise. And if he’s been burned to ashes, you want me to help you get revenge.” He stopped to look at me.
“In a nutshell, yes.”
He chuckled as he grabbed the bottle and filled the glass. “Not only am I risking  my life, I would be putting others in danger.”
“I realize this.” The notion of harm to other people bothered me greatly and I vowed to minimize the risk as much as possible. But ultimately, I realized someone could get hurt, or worse.
He took the shot fast, then set the glass on the counter. “Then you know this will cost you.”
I lowered my gaze as I nodded. “I know.”
He rubbed his hand over his mouth, then scratched his cheek. “What do think?  Should I shave?”
I gave him a quizzical look. How could ask me such unimportant questions when we were in the middle of a serious matter?
“I…I don’t know. It looks good on you.”
“You think? Doesn’t it make me look older though?” He sat on the stool.
I shook my head, disliking his pettiness. “So what if it does? It looks fine on you.”
“So you like it?”
I tossed my hands up. “Yes. Yes. Can we get on with negotiations, please?”
He grinned and slowly dragged his gaze down to my chest. I rolled my eyes. It was only a matter of time before his naughty mind would start working.

Excerpt The Evil Next Door:
The screen door squealed before we reached the kitchen. Jeremy stepped inside, then closed the front door.
“Is everything okay now?” I asked as I approached him.
He secured the lock before he faced me. “I don’t want you investigating this matter anymore.”
Staring at him, I felt as if I’d been punched in the gut. “Have you no compassion  for those women?”
“I do, but your life means more to me.”
His response didn’t surprise me given the extremes he’d taken to save me and  provide me a good life. But his excuse still angered me.
“I can’t stop. Those women need help.”
“Not from you.”
“Then who?” I asked in an elevated tone while I threw up my arms. “The police don’t do anything. Nobody helps them. Women are—”
“Stop,” he said loudly. “I will not let you get involved. You are mine to protect and I will do it as I see fit.”
His words lit a fire within me. I wouldn’t stand by and let him tell me what to do. Did he think he could control me because I didn’t have any money, a job, or any friends outside his circle? I didn’t have any of those things, but I was alive and free. While I would honor our deal, I would not allow him to push me around. And I refused to be treated like a glass doll. Temper shooting through the roof, I balled my hands and stepped toward him.
“You do not own me. I own my life and my soul. Not you.” Fury strengthened my voice. Staring into his eyes, I moved closer and he stepped back. “If you think for one second you can control me, think again.” He bumped into the door and I stood inches from him. “I am not afraid of you.”
His eyes widened as realization slapped him in the face. He grabbed hold of my arms, then spun me around until my back hit the door. Before I could take my next breath, he covered my mouth with his. The kiss stunned me and I didn’t want it. I was too outraged. Then, he claimed my tongue and sucked on it. I tried to ignore the intensity of his desire and pushed my hands on his chest. He wouldn’t budge. He took hold of my wrists, then pinned them to the door. Body pressed to mine, he rubbed his groin against my belly. My nipples hardened while heat swelled within me. The feel of his solid erection transformed my anger in a flash. When he pushed his length against me again, I wanted nothing more than to have him buried deep inside me.
I moaned under his kiss while I struggled to breathe. My fight to stop him quickly ended, but he continued to pin me to the door. Body wet with need, I yearned for him. He
stroked my tongue and I returned the same care. He let go of my wrists, then slid one of his hands between us. While he sought to touch me, I did the same to him. I slipped my hand into his sweat pants and quickly found my prize. It was thick and hard and I never wanted to let go.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
Ravenous flames devoured the headless body pinned to the makeshift cross in the front yard. Katie stared, frozen in shock as she sat in her car. Chills shot down her spine. Her gut instinct told her the body burning was her boyfriend, her lover for the last nine years.
Smoke drifted into the car from the vents. One breath triggered bile to rise in her throat. She shoved the door open and bent. Her dinner came out in a mad gush, flying onto the driveway. Tears streamed down her cheeks while her stomach muscles tightened. More of the disgusting fluid rocketed up to her mouth. Pain and heartache overwhelmed her mind, body and soul. He was gone. Forever. He’d said the word countless times over the years. The meaning of the word never hit home, until now.
Sirens screamed through the night, moving closer by the second. The irritating sound intensified the deep throb in her head. She vomited again, unable to control the spasms. Through the thick smoke, she smelled gasoline. Oh God, they’d poured it on him to make sure he couldn’t survive. As if decapitation wasn’t enough.
Bright lights flashed in the darkness as they headed toward her. She’d stopped in the middle of the long driveway, not far from the burning cross holding her lover. Two police cruisers rushed from the road and came to a stop behind her car. Large fire engines blaring their horns passed them and her vehicle. They drove by so fast her vehicle swayed slightly.
“Katie?” Officer Hildebrand asked. She recognized his voice from having served him drinks at the bar every Friday night when he was off duty. “Katie, are you all right?”
She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand as she watched him jog toward her. He passed her and stopped a few feet in front of her car.
“Holy mother of…” He directed his gaze to the burning cross. “Is that a body?”
Another violent spasm hit her stomach. Teeth clenched and lips tight together, she held the urge to barf again, but she couldn’t stop the flood of tears pouring from her eyes.
“Ben, would you stop looking at it and help her out,” Officer Charles Donahue said, walking toward them. His deep smoker’s voice identified him anywhere.
“Katie!” Officer Hildebrand blurted out as if he’d forgotten about her. He rushed toward her and stopped short where her dinner lay on the ground. “Are you all right? Did someone hurt you?”
Unable to speak, she shook her head. Grief stabbed her in the heart. Why? How? Who? Something such as this shouldn’t have happened.
Officer Donahue stopped a few feet to the side of her door and took off his hat. His white hair gleamed thanks to the bright flames. He stared at the sight on the front yard. “My God.”
Officer Ben reached across the circle of puke and placed his hand on her shoulder. “Are you injured? Do you need medical attention?”
She shook her head again as more tears ran from her eyes. Gone. Kyle was gone. How could this happen? The question repeated in her mind.
“Ben, why don’t you drive her back to the station?” Officer Charles said. “I’ll take her car and meet you back there in a few minutes.” He placed his hat back on his head and straightened it.
“Katie, would you like to come with me?” Ben asked softly, as if he were a parent speaking to a young child.
Katie straightened her tense body. From the gap between the car door and the front windshield, she stared at Kyle’s farmhouse. Large flames leaped toward the sky and consumed the structure. Firemen carrying long hoses ran toward her home, but kept a distance. Clearly they couldn’t save it. God, so many memories. So much passionate love shared. So much laughter and happiness occurred within the walls.
“Come on,” Ben said, wrapping his fingers around her arm.
She grabbed her purse sitting in the passenger seat. Leaving the keys in the ignition and the car running, she slowly rose and avoided the disgusting mess on the ground.
Ben kept his hand on her arm while he escorted her toward his vehicle. She walked with her head up and as much poise as she could gather, but her heart ached fiercely. More tears escaped her eyes. Everything she owned and ever cared about was gone. She had nowhere to go.
Ben helped her into the passenger side of the police cruiser, opening the door and closing it once she was situated inside. Katie’s lip quivered as she stared ahead at the bright flames devouring the home she’d known for the last eight years and the one man on earth she’d loved. He was invincible, a fighter to the end. He was strong, smart, experienced, a teacher and lover at heart. He was also immortal.
My Review of Immortal Revenge by Mary Abshire
Katie pulled up to the house and saw the cross with a body burning on it.
She knew who it was.
He was immortal, yet he was gone.
If she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, she might not have believed it.
She grieved, then sought revenge.
~~~~~~~

The book starts out with a fire and the heat never lets up.

Kyle is a vampire and Katie is human, yet they had lived happily together for years. Until, they found him.

Kyle had been a part of the Order of the Legacy – the vampire government. Politics and ego for vampires is no different than it is for us humans. The Order had flipped from good to bad and Kyle had been on their hit list.

There are four kinds of vampires:

those that want to rule the world,

those that think of humans as only a food source,

those who are newer vampires and don’t know how to be a vampire

and those that want to live peacefully beside the humans.

I love a kickass protagonist and Katie fits the bill, a badass after my own heart. She gets knocked down, gets up, brushes herself off and does what needs to be done.

Her parents had died when she was 15 and she had been taking care of herself ever since. She was not a girly girl. Her best friend, Jules, called her Rambo.

I love the bar she works at – the Tasmanian Devil. He is one of my favorite creatures and Tasmanian Devil can even help describe Katie. She wasn’t afraid of anything. She was a doer and felt no need to mull things over, like some of us. Action could be her middle name.

Katie had a Black Camaro and a lead foot. I too love fast cars and that new Camaro looks pretty sweeeeet.

She had dined on Kyle’s blood, but had not turned. It gave her special gifts and along with the gifts came the withdrawal.

He had made arrangements with her, if anything ever happened to him. She had two vials of his blood and a name and number.

Riker had made a promise to Kyle that he would protect Katie. All Katie thought about was she only had a few days to get her revenge.

“Protect her. Teach her. She’s the one.”

Jules is Katie’s best friend and I cannot say that emphatically enough. Mary Abshire describes her as a disco loving, roller skating detective. She was persistent and would not quit until she had the answers she was looking for.

I couldn’t help but laugh when Jules told Katie she drove as if she was dodging cars like in Frogger.

The only thing I didn’t like was Katie being so reckless. She would react without thinking about the repercussions of her actions. But as I read on, she is the one coming up with the plan. If she is going to fulfill the prophecy, I’m thinking she is going to smarten up real quick. Just knowing how to fight won’t be enough.

There is tension throughout the book, as I am waiting for the battle to begin.

MY 5 STAR REVIEW

One thought she was a treasure, One thought she was an abomination.

 The Awakening (Project Eve, 1)Add Shudder to Goodreads

Amazon  /  Barnes & Noble

Kobo  /  iTunes

My first thought when the cute man woke me was good, I have my clothes on. But where am I? When he asked my name, I couldn’t remember.

Boss suggested I go with them to talk, my instinct said I could trust them. We walked through the dead bodies –  burned, torn limb  from limb, missing heads. Boss told Jonas to burn them all. But what about notifying their families of their death? He told me they already knew, but I didn’t understand what he meant. When Jonas asked when I had last fed, I looked at him in surprise.

“You’re not going to stand there and tell me you don’t know you’re a vampire,” he said.

We were in Indianapolis. As we drove around, I felt a familiarity with my surroundings but couldn’t remember anything specific. I was in the back seat of the car and could hear them talking, but their lips weren’t moving. I could hear their thoughts. When I said I couldn’t kill people, Jonas laughed. I could hear Jonas asking Boss what would happen if I couldn’t remember.

All of a sudden I felt a sharp pain rip through my skill and my ears rang. Boss was doing it, trying to read my mind. He found nothing there, no memories. The pain lessened as he backed off, finally believing me. There should be something there, some memory he could find, even if I couldn’t, but there wasn’t. It was possible for a vampire to erase some memory, but not all. Demons can alter memories and reality, but not wipe out memories.

Boss admitted to being a vampire. I asked about Jonas, but Boss cut him off before he could answer. He held my hand to his chest, no heartbeat. But I had one. He told me  I was a half-breed. So I was only half dead. That was why I needed warm blood and human food. Boss could think of no one, or no reason for someone to wipe my memories. Whoever did do it, couldn’t be human. As Jonas and Boss talked, they mentioned other breeds, werewolves, demons, fae, shifters, warlocks…..

When I held my stomach while it was cramping, I felt a bulge in my skirt. I reached in my pocket and found two pieces of paper. Before I could see what they were, Boss grabbed them out of my hand. They were my clues. As we fought over them, they blew out the window. We chased them in the wind and finally caught them. One was a receipt to a bookstore. Still no memory.

The other paper was a pawn shop receipt. But if I hocked something, where was thePawn shop Pictures, Images and Photos money and what did I pawn? Boss  kept my papers. He also found my knife when we got back in the car. It had fallen out of my boot. The handle was made from gold and had two initials, S and B, and was poisoned. Boss told me, if it belonged to me, the poison wouldn’t affect me.

Boss and Jonas worked for the Worldwide Organization of Peace and Protection. His job was to monitor the clans and make sure no one species dominated. We agreed to work together to find out who I was and who killed all those people, those creatures. I knew I wasn’t a killer. I didn’t drink blood and I didn’t have fangs. We figured someone had been looking for me and would do whatever they had to do to get me back. How did they lose me?

We went to the pawn shop, but it seemed to present more questions than answers. I had pawned a demon watch. It tells time in Hell and on earth. It could open a portal between the two worlds.

When the question came up, was I part vampire and part demon, Boss said that it was not possible. He said Tabby may be able to help. She was a Shape-shifter and was living with him and Jonas.

It was decided I needed to test my skills and Tabby would be the perfect sparring partner.  When I shifted to mist, I had the not so bright idea to tease Boss. He not only attacked me, he called me an abomination and told me to get out. He thought I was a freak, thought me dangerous. Jonas saw me as a treasure, one of a kind. If Boss made me go, Tabby and Jonas said they would go with me.

Tabby suggested we go shopping and do girl things. We were having a good time, until I noticed the same guy appeared wherever we went. Tabby couldn’t see him, so I told Jonas about him over the phone. He wanted us home, now. Tabby went off to finish the shopping and I waited near the entrance.

Benny chose that moment to introduce himself. He knew I was a half-breed. He was an angel. He told me I needed to remember soon, Tabby’s life was in danger. Now I was human, vampire, demon and angel.

We went to the book store listed on the receipt. While there I had a flash of memory. I hadWriting journal Pictures, Images and Photos been writing in a journal and there was a strong smell of coffee. Boss picked another memory. I had been writing in a journal and was going to mail it. That was four days ago. It should have arrived. What would the journal contain? Would it help answer all our questions?

While we were surfing the internet, a hacker began hunting for our IP  address. Boss had us grabbing computers and weapons. Tabby was throwing bags of clothes and stacks of  cash. Boss and I jumped in the SUV, Jonas and Tabby followed behind us. Gargumen were hunting us, so we split up, agreeing to meet up later.

What was up with Senator Galuzzi, presidential candidate, and Allison?  Why did our internet search of them trigger such a hunt? On top of all that, Benny had told me I needed to remember, that Tabby was in danger and I could save her. From what?

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos    5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

It caught my interest from the beginning. Amnesia. But as the story progressed, I found myself reading faster and faster. The book was full of mystery and suspense.

The plot was going in several directions, but they do come together.

At times I forgot the characters weren’t human. I fell in love with Jonas and Tabby was wonderful. They didn’t even know Stephanie, but would leave everything to protect her, to help her.

.
Stephanie wanted to know all the answers. She felt human and had no desire to do anyone any harm, until they threatened her new-found friends. She would do whatever it took to protect them all, even Boss.

Stephanie couldn’t always understand why Boss could be so cold and demanding. Guess she kept forgetting that he was a vampire. Isn’t that how they are? Yet, he took care of and protected Jonas and Tabby.

Then, boom it was over. I read the last page. Oh no, now what? I didn’t want it to end. I am really curious to see where this story will go. Book II: Quest came out October 8, 2012.

I received this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Retribution. At any cost.

Now that she knows her name and what she is, she wants justice for everything she’s lost. Though her memories elude her, she takes a job for a half-demon Senator and, aided by werewolves from a local clan, intends to uncover evidence that will convict the Senator of more than thirty murders.

Getting to the Senator and finding the necessary evidence is more difficult than she anticipates, especially when there is a bounty for her death. If that were not enough, the vampire who stole her memories returns and reveals unexpected truths. But she’s not going to let anything stop her. Not a sadistic assassin or a servant or Lucifer. Not even her ex-lover, the vampire God of the Underworld. Nothing will stop her from claiming retribution…even if the price is her life.

Guest Post and Review of The Quest (Book II of Project Eve) by Mary Abshire

GUEST POST by Mary Abshire

Life After The Quest

The Awakening The Quest is the second book in the Project Eve series. Both books are action packed and full of mystery. In the first book, The Awakening, my protagonist wakes up among dead bodies and has zero memories. Throughout the book, she seeks to find out her identity and how she came out as the sole survivor among a mass of dead bodies. By the end of The Awakening, she learns her name and what she is. When she finds out who the murderer is and why the person ended those lives, she devotes herself to seeking justice. This is the plot for The Quest.

The Quest takes the reader on another journey with twists and turns as my protagonist is bound and determined to convict the person responsible for murder and so much more. I reveal more about my protagonist such as who took her memories, who her father is, and who her mysterious lover was. Details, details, details. There is a lot going on in the book and they all come together for a happy ending.

Or is it happy? What’s after The Quest?

I left the ending to The Quest open for another book. My protagonist is a unique creature who some admire, others reject, and certain breed want to use. What’s a girl to do?

The books are not romance, but there is a single sex scene in each one. I have ideas for another book, but there wouldn’t be as much mystery and that one detail played a big role in the first two books. Readers seem interested in knowing about her love interest. I’ve considered adding romance, but it would change the direction of the series. At this time, I’m letting my protagonist enjoy her freedom. I think she’s earned it after everything she went through.

If you like action and mystery in a dark setting with a variety of supernatural creatures, I invite you to check out the Project Eve series.

MY REVIEW by sherry

“Yeah, it’s  an odd feeling to enjoy the warmth of the day and then love the magic of the night. I get the best and worst of both worlds.”

The Quest

Spoiler Alert: This is Book II

To see my Review of Book I, The Awakening, go HERE.

I am part demon, part vampire, part angel and part human. There is no other like me. I am the rarest creature on earth. Breeds never mix, so where did I come from?

Six weeks ago Senator Galluzzi had arranged a meeting with various members of the breeds and they had all turned up dead, except for me. I was supposed to be one of them, but someone had saved me.

Jonas and Boss had found me at the dump and become my family, my protectors. They both worked for the World Wide Organization for Peace and Protection – which was created to protect the humans from the rest of us. Since they had found me, almost dead with no memory, we have been working together.

The Senator didn’t know I had no memory and I sure wasn’t going to tell her. I had convinced her to give me a job. I know she only did it to keep me a secret. But I wanted the job so I could investigate her. I knew she was responsible for my mother’s death  and I was determined she would pay.

Sal, the demon leader knew about me and helped me get the job. Why was he here on my first day? We had worked out a deal – he would help me get a job with her and I would convince her not to run for President. She mentioned my father, but I didn’t remember him. It seemed her and Sal both did and I was determined to find out for myself.

Jackson, a werewolf and the policeman investigating the slaughter at the dump, came in and heard me called by my real name. I knew I would have to explain. I had not told him about myself since I remembered things and now I was caught in my lies.

werewolf Pictures, Images and Photos

Later, I took a break and met Jackson to explain to him, that I found out who I was.  I arranged to tell him everything later. On my way back to work I was attacked. Jonas saved me. I told him I was part vampire, so I healed fast and I was going back to work.

As I tried to find my way back to the subbasement, I saw some doors and felt a sense of deja vu. When I saw the silver table, the thoughts that came to me were very strong and sickened me.

At work, I was alone every night for a couple of hours, and would have time to do my own research. Benny, the angel came to warn me. He told me my life was in danger and I needed to leave, but my research was too important for me to leave without answers.

Boss and Jonas picked me up from work and we saw the Gargoyle man following us all the way home. We were going try to trap him for information, but it didn’t go as we had planned.

.

Sex with Boss was intense and I kept telling myself I only did it to relax. My relationship with Boss was “friends with benefits”. Is that all it really was?

In a moment of passion, I called out to Anubis. Who? I concentrated hard on the name and began to remember him. He was a vampire and I knew we had been together sexually. Was he the one who made me a vampire?

Anubis is the God of the underworld. My memories had to be wrong.

The might of anubis Pictures, Images and Photos

Boss thought someone had planned it all – me coming to Indianapolis, selling my  father’s watch and then setting me up for slaughter at the dump. But I knew Anubis wanted me alive, so it couldn’t be him. Was it Senator Galluzzi? I know she wanted me dead.

Back at work, I had some time to prowl through the files and found something with Senator Galuzzi’s  name on it, something about Project E. Before I could investigate further, Jonas called and said we needed to meet. When I went outside, I found him laying on the ground. Before I was able to do anything, I was attacked again, only this time it was so much worse.

I was saved by a vampire, the same one responsible for wiping my memories. He had also saved me at the dump. Why did he continually appear and disappear?

I knew they wouldn’t stop until I was dead, but neither would I. Who would triumph in the end?

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos   5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

A pretty cover and the title is very descriptive of her story. She is on a quest to find the answers about who she is and why so many want her dead.

Mary Abshire’s writing is very detailed. It made me think of Tom Clancy, even though he doesn’t write about vampires, and how in-depth and detailed his novels are. It may cause the story to slow in places, but it helps to fully develop the characters and the plot.

Her friends would sacrifice their lives for her. As far as she knew, she had never had a friend before, let alone a girl friend. She cherished them and was not going to let them die for her. All she wanted was to be able to live like a normal person.

The characters are unique and so well-developed that your feelings for them will be clear. You will think them good, bad or just plain evil.

The Senator made me think of how much she fit in with the politicians nowadays . They figure the world they live in is their little kingdom. How can you dare try to stop them from getting what they want. The world belongs to them and you better not get in their way.

Whether vampires, werewolves, or warlocks, they acted like real people. At times, it made me forget they weren’t human.

This is not a romance novel, but when he made the quotes below, he made me think about the depth of HIS love…………

“You focus on my face and call my name. Do this and I will find you, even in Hell.”

“My love for you is endless. I will do anything to make you happy.”

“I have felt pain only twice that I can recall – when I died and when I couldn’t find you.”

Mary Abshire is an amazing writer. The depth and detail of the wild and bumpy ride kept me eagerly turning the pages. Every time I would think I am approaching the end of the story ……she grabbed me and carried me on. I love how she kept the story going, making me want more.

I always try to figure out the endings ahead of time. I just can’t seem to help myself. This time I was more wrong than right and I like that. It didn’t end with any scenario I thought of, but I liked it. It made me think and wonder……..is there more? The more I thought about it, the more I thought of how appropriate it was. But, if you want to know, you will have to read it for yourself. Hopefully it will be as pleasant a surprise for you as it was for me.

I received this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.
