Sherry’s Shelves #127 is my weekly update from May 28 – June 3, 2017.

Sunday Post #201 Countdown to Spring..

Stacking The Shelves {200}

~~~
Hello fellow bloggers.
Took a road trip with some of the family. It has been raining for a couple of days now, but everything needed it and it gives me time to catch up on blogging instead of working outdoors (which I would rather be doing), so it’s all good. Hope you enjoyed your week and added some books to your reading shelf.
Here’s some free books for, but be sure and check for the ‘0’
Giveaway – After The Miracle by Brenda & Kreg Parmer @KathyHabel
After the Miracle: The Cody Parmer Story
In the summer of 1999, doctors raced against the clock to save Cody Parmer’s life after a terrible car accident on a rural Idaho road. His parents, Brenda and Kreg Parmer, prayed that God would save him, and received their miracle. Months after his recovery a mysterious new discovery threatened to take Cody’s life once more, but this time the doctors couldn’t fix it. As Cody fought for his life, his mother searched for answers. Why would God let this happen? Would God save her son, just to let him die a short time later? Even if Cody lived, could the family handle his injuries and limitations? Even after receiving a miracle, the strength to accept God’s will would be the greatest blessing they could ever ask for.
Praise for the Book
“Such an amazing story! I read this book cover to cover all in one day. I could not put it down! It is very well-written, and you feel as if you are right there with the family experiencing every part of their incredible journey first hand. I cried through a lot of it but found parts that made me laugh too. When a book can make you do both of those things, you know you’ve found a good one.” Shannon Dooley, Amazon Review
“This is a book about amazing resiliency in the face of the kind of trauma every parent dreads. It’s told with incredible honesty and transparency. But, it’s also a story about struggling faith that grows into a deep belief in the goodness of God even in the face of adversity…” MarSue, Amazon Review
“This book was an inspiring read. Very well written, and a page turner. Cody’s family made it through some impossible odds. You really feel the struggles that they go through as they try everything to get the best results for their son.” Nora, Goodreads Review
Excerpt
Introduction
Rick jumped up and started tracing the path backward. He was only a few steps from the truck when he saw the outline of a person lying in the tall brown grass. “Over here!” he yelled to Joe, and they both rushed to the spot, crushing pieces of broken glass in the weeds as they ran.
There, lying only a few yards from the overturned truck, was the outline of a teenage boy. As Rick got closer, his stomach sank. The boy was lying chest down in the grass, his body tossed like a rag doll. His shorts had been torn and his white shirt was covered with a muddy mix of dust and blood. His left arm was lying limp at his side but the other was a mangled mess, broken and twisted around more than once. The skin from the shoulder to the elbow looked like a washrag being wrung out. The broken arm was perched awkwardly in the air, and the hand looked like it was covering his mouth. He stepped closer. No, the hand was in his mouth, shoved into a fist inside his gaping jaws. Rick’s stomach turned as he realized the boy’s head was twisted almost 180 degrees, facing up to the sky, while the body lay chest down in the dirt.
Rick stepped back, he didn’t notice any movement, surely the boy was dead. How could anyone survive something like that? His knees got weak and he shuddered at the thought of being the first to find a dead body. Then he heard gurgling, low and wet, coming from the boy’s chest and mouth.
“He’s choking!” Joe called out, “What do we do?”
Are We Facing Extinction? Dark Light Dawn by Jon Land & Fabrizio Boccardi @jondland
Jon Land has been a go to author for me from way back.
He is stepping outside his comfort zone in Dark Light Dawn, a horror thriller, and I am super excited to find out…
This is an early review and the book is now up for pre order and will be released August 1, 2017.
Dark Light: Dawn
Amazon  /  Goodreads
MY REVIEW
I have been a huge fan of Jon Land’s for many years and I am always eager to pick up another one of his novels.
Dark Light Dawn is a new genre for Jon Land and he has outdone himself. The opening is the hook, slowly reeling me in character by character, event by event, a war between good and evil ravages the world, innocents and guilty alike falling in agony.
Jon Land keeps the mystery going, slowly sharing pieces of what brought the world to this cataclysmic place, making it impossible for me to put the book down. Will anyone survive? Are we facing extinction?
The story is told from multiple points of view and I enjoyed seeing each character’s perspective and motivation.
It all began with Ben Younger…
Ben Younger and his partner, Dale Denton, are drilling oil, or at least trying to, on the impact crater of The Big Bang. Is it cursed, or is the Mexican way of doing business too costly. I guess that tells us there will be surprising developments arising.
Will arrogance and greed be Dale Denton’s downfall?
Max Younger, Ben’s son was in the fight of his life in Yemen. He functioned as if a man in auto mode, like he has a sixth sense. NOW, he’s in an even bigger fight and there is so much more at stake than just his life.
Vicky is a wiz with disease, having worked for the CDC and WHO and is called to Jordan.
Al-Qadir in Iraq, is a ruthless savage, hell bent on torturing and killing all those  who oppose him.
Science fiction, religious, paranormal and supernatural, horror…you decide.
The minute I thought I had everything figured out, the worst is over…
Holy Moly, what can I say?
The tension goes on and on and on and one.
Dark Light Dawn by Jon Land filled me with so many emotions, I was spent by the time I read the last word….but, please Jon….I WANT MORE!
Amazing! Mind shattering!
GOODREADS BLURB
With an uncanny ability to survive any combat situation, Max Younger has built a good life for himself as a Navy SEAL. That is, until a rogue rescue operation plunges him back into the past he thought he’d escaped forever.
Waiting for him back home in New York are terrible, long-hidden truths rooted in the tragic death of his father. But the origin of those truths lie further back than that, and Max finds himself ensnared in a sinister plot involving nothing less than the biblical apocalypse.
The explosive conflagration of events reunites him with the only woman he ever loved: Victoria Lewin, a brilliant expert in infectious disease who may be the only one who can stop the spread of a deadly pestilence threatening the planet. Max’s reunion with Vicky comes amid a firestorm being unleashed by forces that date back to the very origins of the universe.
Across the globe, the stage is being set for a final, epic confrontation between the forces of good and evil. Sides are chosen, a fearsome army rises, and the lines between science and superstition become increasingly blurred. Max desperately seeks to discover whether he is fated, under the shadow of the Medusa Strain, to help save the world . . . or destroy it.
Giveaway – Breakwater by Catherine Jones Payne @cjonespayne @YABoundToursPR
I love mermaids, so I was very excited to get my hands on this one.
I love the fabulous cover…and the story inside.
Genre: YA Fantasy/Mermaids
Release Date: May 30th 2017
MY REVIEW
I love the gorgeous cover for Breakwater by Catherine Joyce Payne.
Oh…to be able to fly through the sea, jump with the dolphins, skim the sandy bottom of the ocean…
The writing is spectacular, so creative and descriptive that I am able to visualize things and they play like a movie in my ming. Imagine, if you will, a feeder being surrounded by sea horses instead of hummingbirds. Your garden is full of colorful coral instead of flamboyant flowers.
A dead naiad is the reason for Jade’s wedding being cancelled…by her.
“I’m here to report a murder.” – Jade.
The murder has drawn lines in the sand and there are threats and danger at every turn.
Jade is from a high caste in the mer society, unaware of the reality of life for those less fortunate than her. She wants to do the right thing, is friendly with those from a lower caste than herself and begins to learn that there is so much more to life than she ever thought possible.
The mers are the same as us, yet different…love, hate, political intrigue, betrayal, murder..Even mers face hard choices and sacrifice.
What a fabulous storyline. I didn’t anticipate the direction Catherine Joyce Payne would take with the story and I am loving everything, amazed at the originality and detailed descriptions.
The mystery is solved, but there is so much more of the story to be told and I am curious to see how Jade grows and develops.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Breakwater by Catherine Joyce Payne.
