NEW RELEASE

It is fun spending time in Lucky Town with all my book friends and the new novel, Deadly Memories by Amanda Siegrist. Though each can stand alone, I love keeping up with all the characters.

Deadly Memories (Lucky Town #4)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Woo Hoo. I am heading back to Lucky Town in Deadly Memories by Amanda Siegrist. I have been loving this series and am eager to get the latest news on some fabulous characters and share the romance of Deke and Charlotte.

Deke had slinked out of her house in the early morning hours after a night of lovemaking and there is no forgiveness in her heart. Will he get a second chance? Does he deserve one? Charlotte is stubborn, with a capital S, so good luck to him breaking through her silent treatment.

Because of her work for the sheriff, they are frequently thrown together and consider them all friends…but Special Agent Deke Sumnter of the FBI…Nope. Never gonna happen. The saying, if looks could kill, applies, but it makes me smile and I am only at 7%.

Sherry runs the flower shop in the small town of Lucky. Gotta mention her, because it is always fun to see my name in a book.

Since the Cheetah gang had come to town, the quiet and security of living in a small town had vanished. This time, Charlotte is in danger, and Deke, along with the rest of law enforcement are on high alert.

Charlotte keeps the police department running like a well oiled machine by handling all the office duties and the gossip mongers. Need a secret kept, she’s your woman.

Deke is known as a happy go lucky guy, but it is a cover to hid his inner most feelings. His childhood kept him from committing to a relationship, allowing himself to have a full and happy life. I am looking forward to learning how he pulls himself together and letting Charlotte into his life.

The romance fits all the criteria for a romantic suspense novel. No surprise there, but this is not the first time I’ve met these characters, so we have a history and I love catching up with them. AND danger seems to go hand in hand with the romance. I love that Amanda Siegrist creates new dangers and smiles for each set of characters and keeps me flying through the pages.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of Deadly Memories by Amanda Siegrist.

GOODREADS BLURB

From USA Today bestselling author Amanda Siegrist comes an intense romantic suspense that will make you swoon and hold you on the edge-of-your-seat until the very end.

Love is scary…death is terrifying.

Deke Sumnter only has casual sex. Anything beyond that, he’s not interested. Until Charlotte. She’s smart, sexy, and something he’s always craved. But one time was all he could give her. He should’ve known it wouldn’t be enough. Now, she won’t even talk to him. He’d take just being friends over the silent treatment.

When trouble starts brewing again in their small town, this time targeting the woman he swears he doesn’t love, he won’t let anything stop him from protecting her, even if everything inside of him says he needs to stay as far away from her as possible.

The entire Lucky Town Novel series: (Each book can be read as a standalone.)
Escaping Memories (Book 1): Logan & Aubrey
Dangerous Memories (Book 2): Danny & Kat
Stolen Memories (Book 3): Seth & Pepper
Deadly Memories (Book 4): Deke & Charlotte

MY REVIEW

OMG…Talk about a book surprise…BLEW…MY…MIND…and I love it!!!!!!

There are a lot of triggers, so read with care.

Alexandra…an amazing character. The writing is off the charts, pulling out all the feels and smacking me in the face. With the excellent writing and the surprisingly creative storyline and characters, I challenge you to tell me you didn’t shed a tear or two, I won’t believe you. This severely damaged child/woman, who, when faced with a situation she never could have ever imagined calls for her to face her fears and change her life…One minute I wanted to reach through my Kindle and slug someone, the next puke my guts out, the next wrap them in my arms. The ending…AMAZING and I NEED to know what happens next.

When I read the blurb, it made me think that The Savant of Chelsea by Suzanne Jenkins would stand alone and I could decide what I wanted the rest of her life to be…but I see there are two more books…AND I WANT THEM!

As Sick As Our Secrets by A B Whelan @AuthorABWhelan

As Sick as Our Secrets

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Well…I only wrote down one sentence in my notebook for review notes:

Olivia lives the world of a rich, trophy wife. She is a slave to her husband, not free to do anything he doesn’t approve. I love that she has her way of getting even and letting out a bit of her frustration. I laughed out loud. Take that Mr Serial Killer.

This is not a dark and gritty, soul sucking suspense thriller that I love so much, but it does have its moments. I saw where someone likened it to Big Little Lies and I agree.

As Sick As Our Lives, to me, is an in depth look at someone who is so beaten down by her husband, that she cannot make a move without his approval. It’s not about the serial killer husband, it’s about her, Olivia. It takes her a long time to come to realize and accept who he is and what she is going to do about.it.

You have to walk in her steps. Live in her make believe world where all is sunshine and unicorns…NOT. It is easy to put on a false face. to hide your true self from others. Imagine you are frozen, unable to make any decision for yourself. How long would it be before you make a move to save yourself? How would you go about getting our from under a domineering, controlling, dangerous significant other? Some women never do, and pay the ultimate price. Is that Olivia’s future? Waiting for HIM to be done with her? Waiting for HIM to decide when he has had enough of her? Or…

You will have to read it for yourself to find out. LOL

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of As Sick As Our Secrets by A B Whelan.

GOODREADS BLURB

What would you do if you found out your husband was a serial killer?

Olivia Campbell has the life most women want. A respected husband, beautiful home, and the freedom that only financial security can provide.
But not all is as it appears…
Olivia has secrets, and after discovering a hidden journal in her husband’s study, she realizes that she’s not the only one.

As her picture perfect world starts to fall apart around her, Olivia wonders just how deep the secrets run as she finds herself immersed in the investigation of a young missing girl.
Some coincidences are just too hard to ignore, but how far is she willing to go to discover the truth?

As Sick as Our Secrets is a dark, fast-paced psychological thriller with remarkable characters. If you are a fan of Gillian Flynn, Caroline Kepnes, Liane Moriarty, and Paula Hawkins, and enjoy TV shows and movies like Twin Peaks, The Killing, Law & Order: SVU, and 8MM, then this book might be your next favorite read.

Sherry’s Shelves 5.30 – 6.5.21 #weeklyupdate

Sunday Post

Hi Everyone. The sun was shining, but now it looks like rain. We could use some. I have been messing with the pool. I am so glad we have a robot that cleans it. Was getting to be a bit much for me. Need to get out and do some yardwork, but…

Have done some reading and a lot of blogging, while Mr Wonderful is at his mother’s house. We need to get another laptop so we each have one. It will make blogging a lot easier for me. I let him use the computer whenever he wants, because I have my reading to entertain me. Unfortunately he is not a book reader. It’s a goo thing it never bothers him that I have my nose stuck in a book all the time. Definitely a good thing for my TBR. LOL

We are all doing good and I hope you are too.

Stay safe and wear a mask..

EXCERPT

“The snow is not that bad.” Gabe didn’t directly answer her question, but the response was safer.

At least he thought it was, until Tessa playfully shivered and drew a millimeter closer to him. Her full lips were tinged with red wine, and the urge to dip his head to hers made it hard to breathe. Gabe lifted his glass, never taking his eyes from Tessa. “What is it with Texans and hating snow?”

“It’s cold.” Tessa held up a finger as she continued to tick off her reasons. “It’s slushy. It makes driving difficult. It’s cold.”

“You already said that one.”

“It bears repeating!”

Tessa’s hand tapped his knee, and Gabe pinched his wineglass to keep from laying his hand over hers. What was wrong with him? He yearned to make her laugh, to see the hint of a dimple when her lips tipped up. To pull her close.

A small voice in the back of his brain wondered if he should take his leave—chalk the evening up to nostalgia and move on. But it was easy to ignore when Tessa smiled.

He leaned closer. “What Texans don’t understand is that snowy weather just means you have to cuddle closer.” The flirtation escaped his lips. Gabe watched an emotion he wanted to believe was desire flash in Tessa’s eyes.

“I guess that could be true.” Her tongue ran along the edge of her lip as she closed a bit more of the distance between them. “But the heat can be—” her gaze darted behind him before she pulled back “—sensual, too.”

“True… Gabe’s tongue refused to form any more words as he stared at the woman across from him. This wasn’t catching up, and discussing Maine’s snow versus Texas’s heat shouldn’t make him want to kiss her. Shouldn’t make him want to run his hand along her waist…shouldn’t make him want so many things.

“I missed you when you left the theater. After we…” Her cheeks bloomed as she tilted her wineglass back. “You were my first kiss.”

The words were so soft that Gabe wondered if Tessa had meant to say them out loud. “You were mine, too. I even went to the Trinity versus Bell football game senior year, hoping you’d be there. I wanted to apologize for vanishing. To explain that the job I got paid better and started immediately. To ask for your number.” Gabe grinned. “If only every teen had had a cell then.”

“If only…” Tessa took another sip of her wine, then set it on the table.

“If only…” Gabe repeated, setting his wineglass next to hers. Without the glass in his fingers, his palms itched to reach out to Tessa.

GOODREADS BLURB

“To the medical world, I was a host body, surviving only to bring a new life into the world. And while I wanted to die more than anything in the world, I never wanted this. No, I never wanted to cease to exist. This was the worst death of all.”

Aftermath

Chapter One

Taylor Reid’s phone flashed as she snapped the selfie with her two friends, their heads touching and their backs to the stage. The shot from the third row, with the lead singer in the background and the three of them in the foreground, was perfect. No one would believe their seats were so close.

They turned around to face the band, dancing to the beat of the song they’d been listening to in the car on the way to Trudeau Hall.

Taylor quickly posted the pic, typing, “Ed Loran targets nonpoliticals for his rally with band Blue Fire. Worked on us!”

She put her phone on videotape and zoomed onto the stage.

“I don’t want it to end!” Desiree said in her ear.

“Me either!” Taylor yelled over the music.

“Maybe they’ll play again after his speech,” Mara shouted.

The song came to an end, and the crowd went crazy, begging for one more song before the band left the stage.

But an amplified voice filled the auditorium, cutting off the adulation. “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the next president of the United States, Ed Loran!”

The crowd sounded less enthusiastic as the band left the stage and Ed Loran, the Libertarian celebrity magnet, made his entrance. Taylor kept cheering and clapping, letting her enthusiasm for the band segue to him.

It happened just as the candidate took the stage. The deafening sound, like some confusing combination of gunshot and lightning bolt, a blast that blacked out the lights and knocked her to the ground. Smoke mushroomed. Screams crescendoed—shrieks of terror, wailing pain, shocking anguish . . . then sudden, gentle silence, as if she were underwater. A loud ringing in her ears filled the void.

She peered under the seats, choking for breath as dimmer lights flickered through the smoke. Even from here, she could see the fallout of whatever had happened. Blood pooling on the ground, people hunkering down as she was, feet running . . . What was happening? An explosion? A crash? She looked around and couldn’t see her friends.

She clawed her way up and looked over the seat. Smoke and fire billowed from the stage into the crowd, and heat wafted over her like some living force invading the room. Muffled, muted sounds competed with the ringing.

Get out! Now! She dropped back down and crawled under two rows of seats until she came to someone limp on the floor. She felt herself scream but couldn’t hear her own voice. Scrambling to her feet, she went to her left to get to the aisle, but her foot slipped on something wet. She grabbed the seat next to her to steady herself, then launched into the frantic crowd in the aisle. The room seemed to spin, people whizzing by, people under her, people above her, people broken and ripped and still . . . She stepped and fell, crawled and ran, tripped and kicked her way to the bottlenecked doorway, then fought her way through it.

The ringing in her ears faded as she tumbled downstairs, almost falling into the lobby below. The sound of crying, coughing, wretching, and the roaring sound of pounding feet turned up as if some divine finger had fiddled with the volume.

She set her sights on the glass doors to the outside and pushed forward, moving through people and past the security stations they’d stopped at on the way in. She made it to the door and burst out into the sunlight.

Fresh, cool air hit her like freedom, but at first her lungs rejected it like some poison meant to stop her. At the bottom of the steps, on the sidewalk, she bent over and coughed until she could breathe.

After a moment, the crowd pushed her along toward the parking garage until she remembered that her car wasn’t there. She had parked on the street, blocks away. She forced her way out of the flow of people and ran a block south. Where was it?

She turned the corner. Her car was here, on this block. Near the Atlanta Trust Bank. Wasn’t it? Or was it the next block?

Sweat slicked her skin until she found her silver Accord. There!

She ran to it and pulled her keys out of her pocket, wishing she hadn’t lost the key fob. Her hands trembled as she stuck the key into the passenger side lock and got the door open. She slipped inside on the driver’s side, locked it behind her. Instinctively, she slid down, her head hidden as if someone were coming after her.

What just happened?

One minute they’d been taking selfies and videotaping the band, and the next they were on the floor . . .

Where were Mara and Desiree? She hadn’t even looked for them! Should she go back for them?

No, that would be insane. She could smell the smoke and fire from here. They would know to come to the car when they got out.

Call the police!

She tried to steady her hands as she swiped her phone on.

“911, what is your—”

“An explosion!” she cut in, her voice hoarse. “At the Ed Loran rally at Trudeau Hall!”

“Where are you now?” the woman asked in a voice that was robotically calm.

“I got out. There’s fire . . . People are still in there. Please send ambulances!”

“Ma’am, did you see what exploded?”

“No . . . the stage area, I think. I don’t know where my friends are. Please . . . hurry!”

“We’ve already dispatched the fire department and police, ma’am.”

She heard sirens from a few blocks away and cut off the call. She raised up, looking over the dashboard for the flashing lights. She couldn’t see any, but the sirens grew louder.

She knelt on the floorboard, her knees on her floormat and her elbows on her seat, and texted Desiree.

I’m at the car. Where are you?

No answer. She switched to a recent thread with Mara and texted again.

Got out. At car waiting. Where are you?

Nothing.

She dictated a group text to both of them.

Are you all right?

They were probably running or deaf, fighting their way out like she had. She tried calling them, but Mara’s phone rang to voicemail. When Desiree’s phone did the same, she yelled, “Call me! I’m waiting at the car and I’m scared. Where are you?” She was sobbing when she ended the call.

Bodyguard Christmas Trilogy – Yuletide Protector by Jane Blythe @jblytheauthor

Any time I get a chance to read a Jane Blythe novel, my heart skips a beat. She can sure pen a romantic suspense novel that makes you want to read until the last page is turned.

Yuletide Protector (Christmas Romantic Suspense, #4)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Tis the season..for murder and mayhem, love and laughter, and the magic of Christmas.

Sixteen young women dead, and Ashley Fallon is the only survivor of an attack by the serial killer. BUT, he wants her and will stop at nothing to get her.

Sawyer Watson is her best friend, he has been in love with her for many years. She is oblivious. They are thrown together after the attack and he becomes her bodyguard.

Ashley loves snow, snowmen and Christmas. Don’t miracles come true at Christmas? Could one come true for her? The killer being caught so she can go back to her life. But after being with Sawyer 24/7, can life ever be normal again?

Ashley is sweet and a bit naive, but she has a lot of fight in her.

I had my heart in my throat early in the story. A woman’s worst nightmare: snatched from behind, drug into an alley, raped and, almost, killed. He revels in killing. It is fun for him and he will not stop, until someone stops him. We know he wants the one that got away, so she becomes a target.

Months have passed and Christmas is right around the corner. Knowing a showdown has to be coming, I am waiting…waiting…tension builds. Like any serial killer, he feels he has do it, whatever it takes.

Characters from previous novels make an appearance and it adds a little extra to the story. None of them have had an easy life, so they will protect their own, with their lives, if necessary. Jane Blythe’s novels do that a lot, but it’s not necessary to read the previous novels. Though, if you are just starting the series, I highly recommend starting at the beginning. I loved each and every one and she manages to make each book unique in its own way.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Yuletide Protector by Jane Blythe.

GOODREADS BLURB

Being the bodyguard for a friend you’re secretly in love with isn’t easy.

Ashley Fallon narrowly survived an assault by a serial rapist and murderer, and as the only surviving victim she finds herself in need of a bodyguard after her assailant makes it clear he doesn’t like loose ends and intends to finish what he started.

Sawyer Watson is trapped in his own kind of Hell. He’s secretly in love with Ashley but as far as she’s concerned they’re just friends. Now he’s living in her house and spending his days—and his nights—with her, and while he won’t take advantage of her while she’s vulnerable he can’t help but hope that spending so much time together might make her see him differently.
