Her heart fluttered when she heard the sound of the key turn in the lock. She quickly adjusted her maroon silk sari with the yellow border, the one that had caught his eye, and waited eagerly for his footsteps.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven… Yes, exactly seven steps before he stopped, hesitated for a few moments, then removed his shoes one by one and arranged them neatly side by side on the shoe rack.

She smiled. He had been mindful of taking his shoes off every day now…

all about customs and rituals. There are several both before and after the

Paratha [par-AA- THA] Hindi पराठा is one of the most popular types of unleavened flat breads in Punjabi North Indian Cuisine and Pakistan.

Prepared from pan frying whole wheat dough which usually has ghee (clarified butter) or cooking oil in it, parathas are often stuffed with vegetables such as mashed boiled potatoes or aloo, cauliflower (gobhi), radish (mooli), other vegetables and or paneer (fresh Indian cheese).

Parathas, particularly the stuffed ones, are simply eaten with pickles, chutneys and or yogurt on the side and make for a wholesome meal at any time of the day.

Now, for my Review and Giveaway of

Vampire Blood by Kathryn Meyer Griffith

First off, let me tell you. Don’t ask questions, JUST DO WHAT I TELL YOU!

Go HERE and find the awesomesauce story of how Kathryn Meyer Griffith’s new author revised edition of Vampire Blood came to be in your hands.

Could there be a Dean Koontz sighting?

1957920

 photo goodreads-badge-add-38px11_zps1ae6e47f.jpg

Michelson thought he had found a home.

But Irene had been a bad vampire, leaving six mutilated victims to be found.

Now they were running again.

They were going back to Summer Haven.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vampire Blood starts with mutilated bodies and ends with a………..Bite.
I had read Human No Longer and loved the book and Jenny. Kathryn Meyer Griffith told me she had written a prequel to Human No Longer and I was curious to see how and why Jenny came to be Jenny.
Vampire Blood tells the story of the theater and how it changed Jenny and Joey’s lives forever.
Rumors and mystery had surrounded the theater. The townspeople always thought it was haunted. Oh no, it was much worse than that.
Jenny is the main character and I loved her. She had courage, with a capital C. Courage means that you face your fears, you do what must be done no matter how terrified you are.
This was the first time Jenny had ever lived alone. She felt it was time to find herself. She was afraid of the dark. Sounds funny, because she wrote horror novels, Vampire novels to be specific. Just because she wrote about Vampires, didn’t mean she believed they were real. It was fiction.
vampires photo: Vampires Vampires.jpgVampire photo by NoLifeKing66
Until the mutilated bodies were found.
Who would have thought it was all true?
I felt so sad for Joey and that surprised me. I did not feel that way when I read Human No Longer, but when I found out about his story, it may me want to wrap my arms around him and tell him it will be okay.
Vampires and shapeshifters. Some are so cruel and blood thirsty. They like playing with their food. Made me think of Orcas playing with seals. How terrifying can that be?
Others, like Michelson, just wanted to live and let live. Can a vampire have a heart?
A small town with lots of dead and mutilated bodies? My thought was – why weren’t they doing something sooner? I would have called in “Criminal Minds”.
Kathryn Meyer Griffith’s character and world building are not to be topped. Her writing flows smoothly and draws you deep into her stories.
A New Book,Giveaway & Apple Pie -Text by Cambria Hebert
The Release Day Blitz has so much to offer and I wanted to share a lot with you.
I hope you will take the time to browse the “Get To Know The Author” guest post, take a gander at the delicious apple pie recipe and enter the awesome giveaway at the end of the post.
FB_bannerThe title of the book intrigued me so much I had to find out what Text by Cambria Hebert is about.
One text can change everything. I love it!
I read the synopsis and knew I wanted to read Honor’s story.
SYNOPSIS
.
One text can change everything.
Honor Calhoun never thought her life would ever be like the books she writes for a living. One morning while out for a run, she learns not all bad things are plots in novels. Some horrors can actually come true.
She faces off with a persistent attacker, holds her own, but in the end is taken hostage and thrown into a hole. In the middle of the woods.
But Honor didn’t go down there alone.
She took her kidnapper’s phone with her. With a spotty signal and a dying battery, her hope is slim.
Nathan Reed is an active duty Marine stationed at a small reserve base in Pennsylvania. All he wants is a calm and uneventful duty station where he can forget the memories of his time in a war-torn country.
But a single text changes everything.
Nathan becomes Honor’s only hope for survival, and he has to go against the clock, push aside his past, and take on a mission for a girl he’s never met.
Both of them want freedom… but they have to survive long enough to obtain it.
GUEST POST
Hey everyone!
As part of  Text’s release day I thought I would share with you a little something about the main character, Nathan.
A few fun facts about Nathan:
Nathan is a United States Marine.
Nathan works out a lot. He’s hot.
Guns are his hobby and his job.
He loves apple pie.
Like the man is serious about his pie. He loves it. In fact, when I was writing Text I baked pies a lot. Ha ha ha. My family really enjoyed it.
So today I brought along my recipe for Apple Pie. I’m calling it Nathan’s apple pie in honor of my main man in Text.
It’s the perfect time of year to bake, eat and enjoy!!
 1143
 Nathan’s Apple Pie
 Ingredients
You can use store-bought crust or you can make your own.
To make a double pie crust:
2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup butter
½ cup shortening
6 tablespoons ice-cold water
Apple Pie Filling:
4-8 Granny Smith apples (depends on size)
4 tablespoons cut-up butter
½ cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon (Nathan likes lots of cinnamon. This can easily be cut down to taste.)
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (This helps the sauce in the pie thicken.)
Directions
To make crust:
Cut together the flour, salt, butter, and shortening with a pastry fork until blended. Add water one Tbsp at a time and mix with fork until it firms into a ball. Separate the ball into two smaller balls. Roll each out onto a heavily floured surface, flipping over frequently. Place one crust in the bottom of a pie pan and reserve the other crust for topping the pie once it is full.
To make filling:
Peel and slice all the apples. Add all slices into a bowl. Mix the apples with the sugar, cinnamon, and flour until well coated. Dump apples into pie crust. Place the 4 tablespoons of cut-up butter around on top of the apples.
Cover the pie with the remaining crust. Crimp the edges together. With a sharp knife, cut a few slits in the top crust (to allow steam to escape while baking), and then you can brush the top of the pie with an egg wash (egg wash = a beaten raw egg). This will give the crust its golden-brown appearance. Also, sprinkle granulated sugar over the top of the crust—which will give the pie a nice flavor and sweetness.
Bake the pie in an oven preheated to 400 degrees for 40-50 minutes, depending on oven.
Let cool and enjoy!
 Note: Nathan suggests serving your warm apple pie with a generous helping of French vanilla ice cream.
Cambria recommends enjoying with ice cream AND coffee.
Thanks for celebrating the release of TEXT with me!
GET TO KNOW THE AUTHOR
Readers have a great privilege of stepping directly into an author’s mind. They have in front of them in black and white what someone else was thinking and feeling as they were writing. It’s actually pretty personal.
But  even though you read the thoughts that swirl through an author’s mind doesn’t mean you really know them, because the thoughts and feelings they write are usually a character’s.
I think sometime’s reader’s wonder about the person behind the book. The author.
So in today’s post I am going to tell you 10 things about me that you don’t know.
10 things about Cambria
  1. My favorite movies are the Fast & Furious movies. I watch them all the time.
  2. I hate crickets. All the crickets that are around my house are always missing a leg. It’s the creepiest thing ever.
  3. My favorite food of all time is cereal. (Any kind)
  4. When I write I wear a hoodie and flip the hood up over my head. It blocks out distractions.
  5. I’m extremely stubborn. (Yep, I’m a Taurus)
  6. I can be superstitious.
  7. I hate clutter. (That show hoarders gives me hives).
  8. I use Proactiv because I suffer from acne. (notice I said suffer. I mean really, is it fair I am 32 and still have to have it??)
  9. I like to run. It helps me clear my head and manage stress.
  10. I’ve moved six times in the past 10 years.
And those are ten things about Cambria Hebert.
Now tell us one thing about you!
~~~~~~~~~~~~

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

CambriaCambria Hebert is the author of the young adult paranormal Heven and Hell series, the new adult Death Escorts series, and the new adult Take it Off series. She loves a caramel latte, hates math and is afraid of chickens (yes, chickens). She went to college for a bachelor’s degree, couldn’t pick a major, and ended up with a degree in cosmetology. So rest assured her characters will always have good hair. EXCERPT

“Hey,” I hear a male voice say. But I’m sure he isn’t talking to me so I ignore him.

“Hey you!”

Hearing the clear irritation in his voice. I look up and without thinking, I snap back “What?”

The guy behind the wheel of a bright red convertible sports car—wait—the super good looking guy behind the wheel, smiles at me and says, “are you Katie?”

I blanch. I have to think—is my name Katie? Duh Katie, yes it is. But only my family calls me Katie. To friends and everyone else, I’m Kate or Katherine. I look behind me to make sure he isn’t talking to someone else. Nope there’s no one behind me.

“What?” I say again just to make sure that the stress from today’s events haven’t made me delusional.

The guy behind the wheel shakes his head “You’re Katie Cook?”

Oh he is talking to me? Was that a question or a statement? I’m not sure.

He gets out of his car and comes around to me. I stare opened mouthed. He is drop dead gorgeous. His hair is dark brown and curly, slightly tousled from the wind. He is clean shaven; his jaw is strong and square. His lips are perfectly carved, they look soft and subtle, completely kissable. He starts walking toward me with broad shoulders and slender hips. He is wearing dark, blue jeans, a collared white and blue, striped shirt with a dark, blue V-neck sweater that is rolled and scrunched at his elbows. He looks like an ad for sex, the hot steamy, never get— enough kind.

He stands in front of me, giving me a million dollar smile. His perfect white teeth gleam in the sun. It looks like he’s just gotten done shooting a tooth-paste ad. I have to crank my head all the way back to look at him.

“You want a ride? He asks and cocks his head to the side, still smiling.

I raise my eyebrows. Do I want a ride? My thoughts go south, to some very naughty places. I say the words in my head again, do I want a ride? Katherine Cook, I scold myself. My eyebrows scrunch, and I can feel my cheeks flush. That’s it! Its official! I have lost my mind. This is not real. I press my fingers into my forehead, relieving the ache that has formed. I’m going to open my eyes and Mr.—only in my dreams—will be gone. I open my eyes to a pair of large round, blue-black eyes covered with thick dark lashes, staring at me. I’m dumbfounded. My fantasy is still here. The synapses between my brain and mouth are misfiring, and I’m unable to find the words to speak. He smiles at me, oh those lips, then stands. He picks up my small, carry- on suitcase, and I watch him take it and stow it behind the driver’s seat of his car.

“Are you going to get in?” He asks, and he gets back into the car.

I blink, and take a breath, trying to regain my senses. “How do you know my name?” I stammer, finally managing words.

“I owe a favor to Aaron, and he’s cashing it in.”

“Aaron who?” Even though I know, okay, I hope he is talking about Aaron Reed, the guy who tried to help me buy a car, I still have to ask.

He tucks his chin down, giving me the eye, silently saying— you know who I’m talking about.

Okay, so I’m going to hope it’s my Aaron as I look down at my phone— still no call from my dad.

“Get in the car Katie,” annoyance in his voice.

I sigh. “My parents told me never to get in cars with strangers, what’s your name?” I smile at him and give him the same head cock.

He shoves his aviator sunglasses on, and gives me that megawatt smile again. “Get in the car, and I will tell you.”

Oh, he wants to play a game. I’m in no mood for games. I cross my arms in defiance. Could this day get any worse?

“Tell me first, and then I will get in your car,” I push my sunglasses down on my face and smile, showing my teeth.

“Get in the car Katie. I have your suitcase,” he says in a playful tone, but I can tell he’s serious. Oh shoot, why did I let him take it? I feel my insides tighten, and my stomach is doing a continuous somersault in my belly. My knees feel weak, and my body buzzes with a hyper-awareness. My gaze flits from the car to him and back again. I’m too nervous to keep looking at him, but too scared he’ll disappear if I don’t look back. I’m completely and so utterly turned on. I pick up my bag and take a step toward him. Am I really going to get into the car with this guy, he could be a serial killer for all I know. He could have gotten my name from somewhere— I don’t know where—Facebook? I feel my phone buzz in my hand which pulls me from my silent babble. I look down at the caller ID, it’s my dad.

“Hello…okay…yes…” I look up at the gorgeous stranger in the car, I can feel his eyes on me, “okay…all right…” I feel a bit brave behind my sunglasses, so I give a wry smile and arch my eyebrow at him… “Sound goods…okay…I will…you too…bye.”

I shoulder my bag and step up to the car. Mr. Tooth-paste ad leans over, opens the door for me, and I slide into the seat, sitting my bag on the floor between my legs. We sit for a minute until I look over to him confused. “I’m in the car, you can go now.”

Nature runs AMOK – Wild Times on Skidaway Island by Karen Dove Barr

VBT_Wild_Times_on_Skidaway_Island_Banner_copyI am very happy to be a part of the tour for Wild Times on Skidaway Island by Karen Dove Barr.

I have so much to share that I hope you will take a leisurely tour through the post and enjoy all that Karen Dove Barr and I have to offer for your enjoyment today – Guest Post, Excerpt and My Review.

I have a small collection of travel books. Before going to a new place, I always buy a book to learn as much as I can and find the photo op places of choice.

The cover immediately drew me in and when I read that Skidaway Island is a part of Georgia’s Historic Rain Forest, I became intrigued.

I lived in Atlanta, Georgia for two years and loved it. I never made it to Skidaway Island, but if I had read this book while there I would have made it a point to visit.

Wild Times on Skidaway Island

by Karen Dove Barr

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 SYNOPSIS
Wild Times on Skidaway Island, Georgia’s Historic Rain Forest, details life in a unique Audubon-designated, ecologically friendly refuge. There, golfers pitch balls around endangered great blue herons, mama raccoons march their babies across backyard decks where once Guale Indians trapped ancestors of the same raccoons, and residents dodge alligators and rescue snakes.
Even the vegetation is wild. Three hundred-year-old oaks dripping Spanish moss and poison ivy surmount an under-story of wax myrtle and holly. Carolina jasmine, Cherokee roses, and endangered orchids grow wild in the rain forest. The book examines choices residents make when stared down by a bald eagle, when a red-tailed hawk mistakes a golf ball for bird food, when wakened at midnight by deer munching hibiscus. Wild Times on Skidaway Island educates about the species that residents must adapt to on this historic island.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

GUEST POST

Why did Karen choose to write about this particular island?

            Skidaway Island has been my home since 1989.  When I first crossed the causeway and bridge to the island I didn’t know quite what to expect, even though I had lived in nearby Savannah for many years.  Development is allowed on only a few of Georgia’s barrier islands.  Skidaway had remained unbridged and mostly uninhabited in modern times.

A dappled herd of white-tailed deer grazed on the banks of the lagoon just inside the North Gate on my first trip to Skidaway Island, like shills for the real estate company. The saleslady neglected to warn that the thunder of hooves would wake us at midnight, when deer munched pots of hibiscus on our wooden deck.

VBT_Wild_Times_on_Skidaway_Island_Book_Cover_Banner_copyAfter we built the house a mama raccoon descended from the fronds of a palm tree and marched her trio of kits across the wide back deck while we watched, open-mouthed.

I didn’t know the history of the island; only that James Oglethorpe left a few of his original settlers on Skidaway Island when he landed in Georgia in 1733.  All the settlers died or left.

After Georgians struck down the English trustees’ prohibition against slavery men and women from Africa were brought to Skidaway and remained there for nearly one hundred years. By the end of the nineteenth century almost all were gone.

We built our house on land ringed by giant oaks but the center of our lot contained only dense, new-growth pine.  Traces of an abandoned dirt road crossed one edge.  When we dug our footings, we found shards of blue and white china.  And when I moved in the spirits of previous residents filled our rooms.

Wild Times on Skidaway Island  lets the world share the facts I’ve learned about this beautiful but sometimes uninhabitable  place.

EXCERPT

I chose this excerpt because it had me cracking up as I read it.

When Walt and Carol Culin topped their house at The Landings with a coated metal roof they were confident the roof would be problem-free for a hundred years.  Walt’s contacts as head of an industrial coating company helped him get the latest technology.  Even a hurricane shouldn’t destroy their unusual–looking roof.

But nothing in Walt’s Princeton-educated background prepared him for dryocopus pileatus, the pilated wookpecker.

Male pilated woodpeckers are fixated on the notion that female woodpeckers are attracted to the stud with the noisiest pecker. Usually the woodpecker has to be content with drumming on a hollow tree to resonate his sound. Walt and Carol’s metal roof, however, raised the bar for the local woodpecker population.  Walt and Carol were regularly awakened by mate-seeking woodpeckers as soon as they moved into the house.

Walt ended up having to make a run to Toys ’R Us for rubber snakes. Glued to the chimney alongside a big fake owl, the snakes allowed Walt and Carol to catch some winks in the early morning during woodpecker mating season.

MY REVIEW

What can I say? If you are a traveler that does your research before taking a trip, this is a book you will want to add to your collection before visiting Skidaway Island, Georgia’s Historic Rain Forest.

Karen Dove Barr made me think of Cape Cod as I read the book.

I could feel the mud oozing through my toes as she talked of the mucky river bottom. It has a very distinctive aroma, not pleasant, but all of us water lovers learn to love it. I always wonder what critters are under the muck waiting to nibble on my toes.

I could picture the kayakers riding the waves, the bikers pedaling through the scenic pathways, the noreasters blowing and the liquor smugglers trying to bring their wares to the thirsty residents without being caught by the man.

Skidaway Island Oceanographic Institute would be a must see on anyone’s list. The Oceanographic Institute is a 700 acre campus that is part of the University of Georgia. Photo from Skidaway Island Oceanographic Institute website.

The Island differs greatly from the Cape when it comes to the vegetation. The towering oaks can be over 100 years old, with massive branches that create an umbrella of shade . Even on the hottest days you can take some comfort in their embrace.

The critters abound and I love all nature’s gifts, from the flying squirrel, to the pesky deer trying to eat all your beautiful flowers. There are those irritating raccoons and even bobcats spying on whatever comes to the bird feeder. There are opossum, river otters, minks, rabbits, fox, bats and feral pigs.

Birdwatchers will love the abundance of flying creatures. The crows look down as if we are the novelty. I laughed when Karen talked about coming up on a snake while biking. It was actually an anhinga anhinga, a snakebird. Eagles have returned to Skidaway Island, so the residents must be doing something right. When you visit you may be lucky to have a Bald Eagle sighting yourself. Pilated woodpeckers – I have always wanted to see one of these. They remind me of a pterodactyl.

I love birds, but my favorite creatures have to be found in the water. And Skidaway Island does not lack for the variety, large and small, to be watched and photographed. They even have the knobbed whelk as their official state shell. How cool is that? There are also all the little critters that live in reeds and muck. For those weak at heart, you might want to wear your water shoes.

Skidaway Farms is a cooperative for growing vegetables, trying to keep the wildlife from farm-art-023dining before the residents. There is a children’s garden and they even have a fall festival. Photo from Skidaway Farms website.

The flowers and vegetation are all around you, vibrant and in some instances protected, such as the green orchid, one of the few orchids to be able to endure frosty weather.

I became enamored with Skidaway Island. As Karen talked of her home, I was kayaking, (but not running, walking), biking, fishing, swimming, and just enjoying nature’s bounty. What a fantastic environment to be in. People just need to remember, it is nature’s home, we are the visitors.

Karen – your book made we want to jump in my car and cruise on up to Skidaway Island!

But when Rafe discovers she’s kept their daughter a secret for two years, can he overcome anger and pride to claim his family and the love of his life, or will the deception drive a final wedge between them?

 ~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
Emma would have looked adorable in the simple snug tank top and Bermuda shorts if it weren’t for the look of utter horror on her face.
“Have you lost your mind?” she screamed.
“Yes!” He turned off the saw, threw it on the ground, whipped off his protective goggles and tossed them as well. “Why do you ask?”
“You cut a massive hole in the back door!”
“This here is an example of our differences. You see a hole. I see a home improvement project. This is no ordinary square hole in a door, this is a doggie door.” He pushed on the large piece of cut wood until it fell and landed on the pantry floor inside with a loud clap.
“It’s about three times the size of a doggie door,” she stated flatly.
“Yeah, but I’m the dog. So Princess, what do you think?”
SBB_Return_to_Audubon_Springs_Book_Cover_Banner_copy“I think you are insane.”
“I AM insane! You have MADE me insane! You threw all my stuff out front. You used my underwear for rags!”
“I couldn’t find anything else.”
“There is a basket full of rags in there.”
“None of them fit the occasion,” she said with a straight face.
“I must have lost my mind because that almost makes sense.” He gestured to the door. “Ladies first.” When she stared unmoving, he climbed through the cut door and opened it. “Just for the record, a caveman would have made you climb through.”
“Just for the record, I only changed the locks on the front door.”
