He’s able to manage this facade until he meets Claire Peters. As a part of a kidnapping scheme gone bad, she’s literally delivered right to his warehouse door. As his love for her grows, Brandon finds himself caught in an impossible dilemma. With his lifestyle, he knows he can’t keep Claire, and yet, he can’t risk letting her go, either. His men think he should make her disappear forever, but she’s his angel who still believes in second chances.

The Thunderbird Conspiracy by R K Price

The Thunderbird Conspiracy is the remarkable tale of Robert Kaye, a Hungarian freedom fighter who claimed he knew and collaborated with JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald.R. K. Price’s second novel is also a tale of a Nebraska farm boy who was a great admirer of President Kennedy and a true patriot who desperately wanted to believe his government’s hurried conclusion that Oswald had no accomplice. Yet his own harrowing experience at the hands of his government created profound doubt in his mind, and it haunted him to his death. These two men, one willfully acting, the other a true victim, became entangled in the most notorious crime of the 20th century. This saga of intrigue and murder was revealed to the author on a wintry Colorado day about three weeks before the farm boy’s ravaged heart gave out. That man was R. K. Price’s uncle. His name was Bud Carlson.Price stashed away Bud’s account of Robert Kaye, letting it lay dormant for nearly forty years until he could corroborate his uncle’s story with the release of previously secret FBI files from the National Archives.Now nearing the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s assassination Price has brought Robert Kaye and Bud Carlson back to life. Their incredible story will leave you questioning just how and why JFK was taken from America far too early.

My Tribute To Tom Clancy

Posted on October 6, 2013 by fundinmental

I have been a fan of Tom Clancy’s for many years. His novels have kept me enthralled through many adventures and many countries. I have read them once, twice, three times. His movies are amazing and I have watched them over and over again.

Tom Clancy died Tuesday, at the age of 66. He will be missed.

Tom Clancy was, not only, a prolific writer, but he co-founded Red Storm Entertainment, a video game developer that created games mostly based on the plots of his books, such as “Rainbow Six.”

My Collection of Tom Clancy Novels (c) Sherry Fundin

I was there for the launch of Tom Clancy’s career, with The Hunt For Red October. It is still my favorite novel. I either borrowed the book or checked it out from the library, so it is not currently in my collection. I will have to remedy that.

The Hunt For Red October by Tom Clancy has a special 15th Anniversary Edition.

GOODREADS BLURB

Here is the runaway bestseller that launched Tom Clancy’s phenomenal career. A military thriller so gripping in its action and so convincing in its accuracy that the author was rumored to have been debriefed by the White House. Its theme: the greatest espionage coup in history. Its story: the chase for a top secret Russian missile sub. Lauded by the Washington Post as “breathlessly exciting.” The Hunt for Red October remains a masterpiece of military fiction by one of the world’s most popular authors, a man whose shockingly realistic scenarios continue to hold us in thrall.Somewhere under the Atlantic, a Soviet sub commander has just made a fateful decision. The Red October is heading west. The Americans want her. The Russians want her back. And the most incredible chase in history is on..

To meet his most famous characters – Jack Ryan, John Clark, Ding Chavez and Jack Ryan, Jr – visit Tom Clancy’s Website.

Where is Tropical Storm Karen?

Posted on October 5, 2013 by fundinmental

Karen? Where is Karen? A tropical storm?

So far it has been in the high 80s and mostly sunny. The wind is blowing and the surf is up. I have been to the beach, taking photographs of the beach and surfers that are out catching the waves.

I will be posting more, but gotta watch Michigan finish beating Minnesota for the Brown Jug. Then Boston Red Sox beat Tampa Bay. See you tomorrow.

Here is me with The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore, checking out the situation.

A MUST READ Flash! Friday Prompt from Aria Glazki

Posted on September 29, 2013 by fundinmental

Aria Glazki blew me away with her Flash! Friday Prompt. I had to share it with you. Please comment and let Aria know what the story said to you. To learn more about Aria, she would love to have you visit Aria Glaki’s blog.

Flash! Friday: Prompt #43

Flash! Friday is upon us! Almost at the deadline, but here is this week’s story: 150 words, +/- 5 on this photo:

Teaching Abroad

Throwing children out of windows isn’t normal. At the height of their trajectory, they float for a heartbeat in the air. Orange light paints over their skin. It’s almost beautiful, but it isn’t normal.

Some of the older kids understand, and they all fight our holds instinctively in fear. But we’re stronger, and we’re determined. Their wiggling and crying cannot slow us down.

Screams tear through me, but I don’t even pause.

“I hate heights,” the little boy in my arms whispers.

“Close your eyes,” I can’t help whispering back.

The second he does, I clench my jaw and toss. His arms flail as he flies. Fourteen.

I pray the hands outside will catch him.

We search the smoky room for any small bodies left behind. The flames lick at my feet through the remaining patches of floor.

This isn’t what I signed up for.

My Adventures – Living Life 110%

Posted on September 18, 2013 by fundinmental

Living life 110% is our motto.

I invite you to come along on my adventures and I would love to hear about yours.

The weekend was chockful of wonderful things to do, but it wasn’t hard for us to choose what events we wanted to attend. The beach is one of our favorite places to go. People watching is a fun past-time and there are always some interesting characters wandering around. But this weekend had some added bonuses, like the Corvette Car Show and A Taste of Pensacola with Andrew Zimmer.

I jumped at the chance to see all these speed machines at the Corvette show. I am a lover of muscle cars and it seemed like every Corvette – from vintage to current – was in attendance. The roar of the engines vibrated through the air, making me want to jump in one and go for a joy ride.

A Taste of Pensacola with Andrew Zimmer took place at the Pensacola Beach pavilion. I waited for him to wade into the Gulf and come out with some kind of freaky food, but he stayed with a traditional Gulf staple – Shrimp.

Andrew Zimmer did some stirring and a little sampling along the way. We visited the Hooter girls and had a couple of Bloody Marys to quench our thirst.

Just look at those beautiful shrimps. Makes your mouth water, doesn’t it?

The presentation was appetizing and corn bread is a southern mainstay not to be missed. Andrew Zimmer was very entertaining and hospitable, taking time for a meet and greet after the show.

On to Captain Fun’s for the Alabama football game. Captain Fun’s is the place to go on the Boardwalk to get your football fix with some diehard Crimson Tide fans. Alabama did not let us down. The game was a roller coaster ride of emotions, keeping us watching until the final whistle was blown.

Number 1 Alabama still rules and The Tide beat Texas A & M – 49 to 42.

Romantics Concert (c) Sherry Fundin

We topped off the day with the The Romantics Concert at the Blues Angel Music School, celebrating 130 years of Gretsch guitars.

A Whale of a Time – Orcas

Posted on September 1, 2013 by fundinmental

A pod of 30+ Orcas that was videoed swimming by Galiano Island had me mesmerized. I saw this link on Twitter and had to pass it on. Amazing. I would love to know what you think.

I saw where people had commented about the audio, but I didn’t have the sound on when I watched it and I loved it. I will let it speak for itself.

Football Season has begun and all I can say is GO BLUE!

Posted on August 31, 2013 by fundinmental

File:Michigan Wolverines Block M.png

The Michigan Wolverines have the most all-time wins and the highest winning percentage in college football history. It has, in my opinion, the most awesome helmet and it’s fight song has their competitors shaking in their shoes before they ever arrive at the gate. Michigan Stadium has record-breaking attendance and many rivalries. The annual season-ending game against Ohio State was once voted as ESPN’s best sports rivalry.

That being said – ARE YOU READY FOR SOME WOLVERINE FOOTBALL?

~~~~~~~~~~~~
The greatest college football march ever composed! So said the legendary John Philip Sousa. “The Victors” is called the “1812 Overture” and “Stars & Stripes” of all college football marches or fight songs.
In case you don’t know the words and I KNOW you want to sing along, I have included a second version just for YOU. Most of the time, only the chorus is sung. Look below for the full lyrics.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Another season of football and I am so excited. I love my Michigan, but I watch and enjoy a good game no matter who it is. I want to spend my Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays in front of the TV. I do not want a knock on the door or a ring on the phone. Please honor my wishes and DON’T BOTHER ME. Not only will I bite, I may……………

The Michigan Fight Song

It was composed by UM student Louis Elbel in 1898.

Now for a cheer they are here, trimphant!

Here they come with banners flying,

In stalwart step they’re nighing,

With shouts of Vict’ry crying,

We hurrah, hurrah, we greet you now, Hail!

Far we their praises sing

For the glory and fame they’ve bro’t us

Loud let the bells them ring

For here they come with banners flying

Far we their praises tell

For the glory and the fame they’ve bro’t us

Loud let the bell them ring

For here they come with banners flying

Here they come, Hurrah!

(chorus)

Hail! to the victors valiant

Hail to the conqu’ring heroes

Hail! Hail! to Michigan

The leaders and best!

Hail! to the victors valiant

Hail! to the conu’ring heroes

Hail! Hail! to Michigan,

The Champions of the West!

(break strain)

We cheer them

We cheer and cheer again

For Michigan, we cheer for Michigan

We cheer with might and main

WE cheer, cheer, cheer

With might and main we cheer!

(chorus)

An alternate set of lyrics were found in University athletic files circa the 1920s. Did Elbel write them – no one knows.

Hail! to our Alma Mater!

Hail! to dear old Ann Arbor

Hail! Hail! to Michigan

The Athens of the West!

Puff the Magic Dragon

Posted on August 11, 2013 by fundinmental

I had to laugh at myself, sitting here with tears in my eyes as I watch and listen to this.

It brought back some (good?) memories. I got kicked out of school for three days in Junior High School for smoking in the bathroom. In the school yearbook, under my name, they put Puff The Magic Dragon.

Hope you take a moment, sit back, relax and reminisce.
