(page 56 of paperback)

Jesus picked up on the second ring – always – said it gave the impression of to little to do to pick up on the first and too much to wait until the third.

“Good morning, Karacis Investigations,” he said pleasantly.

“You mean investigate.”

“I mean assist in an investigation, yes.”

(Book Beginnings)

“Stake out:  a mind numbering, bladder busting exercise distinguishable from stalking by the ID you’re able to flash when the police come tap-tap-tapping at your Camaro door.”

Gods, Gorgons, a circus, private investigators, cops and murder.

The tone of this book is light and humorous.

Just reading the synopsis made me want to pick this up.

And I have to know what is the Creature from the Black Lagoon looking monster?

SYNOPSIS

Tori Karacis’s family line may trace back to a drunken liaison between the god Pan and one of the immortal gorgons. Or…maybe it’s just coincidence that her glance can, literally, stop men in their tracks. While her fear of heights kept her out of the family aerobatic troupe, her extreme nosiness fits right in with her uncle’s P.I. business.

Except he’s disappeared on an Odyssean journey to find himself. Muddling through on her own, she’s reduced to hunting (not stalking, because that would just be weird) brass-bra’d Hollywood agent Circe Holland to deliver a message…only to witness her murder by what looks like the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Suddenly, all of her family’s tall tales seem believable, especially when Apollo—the Apollo, who’s now hiding out among humans as an adult film star—appears in her office, looking to hire her. She knows the drill: canoodling with gods never works out well for humans, but she’s irresistibly drawn to him. Maybe it’s her genes. Maybe not.

Given her conflicted feelings for one hot and hardened cop, it’s a toss-up which will kill her quickest. The danger at her door…or her love life.

Warning: Contains pot-boiling passion between a heroine who may—or may not—be a descendent of Medusa, and a hot god and a hunky cop with the…equipment…to handle her, even on her worst bad-hair day. Beware of killer kisses, trickster gods and bearded grandmothers Who Know Everything.

FREE HORROR – Are You Afraid of Tight Places? Crawlspace by Evans Light

Halloween spooktacular season is here and Evans Light has a gift for you.

CRAWLSPACE by Evans Light is now permanently free.

 Happy reading!

Add ME to your GOODREADS reading list now.

MY REVIEW

Evans Light, and his brother Adam, write some of the most excellent and creeptastic short stories you will ever read. Crawlspace is a prime example of Evans originality and his twisted mind. LOL

He is a bestselling author and his short stories are a delight (?) to read.

I feel confident he will have me cringing and the hairs standing up on the back of my neck as I delve into this one.

I love the covers that foreshadow the wickedness between the pages.

Thomas had been living the high life, until…..

His depression over the loss of his career was paralyzing.

I can picture him as he gains weight and doesn’t care enough to even shower.

Then he met her, Miranda.

Kelly, his wife, is at her wits end.

I can feel her frustration with the situation.

She heads out the door with their daughter, giving him an ultimatum.

Finish the work in the Crawlspace, or else.

He could do that.

He just needed to pick himself up and get on with it.

I’m tring to figure out how Evans can make a crawlspace any creepier than it already is.

I mean, think about it. It’s dark, damp, dark and there are creepy crawlies in there.

Evan Light’s description of the darkness and smell makes me not want to go into the Crawlspace, but glad that Thomas has to. LOL

The darkness is so deep, he can’t see his hand in front of his face.

The ground is muddy and cold, seeping into every pore of his body.

Oh no, spiders. But they are just webs, empty with empty carcasses of captured prey.

I’m getting claustrophobic.

My heart starts to beat faster.

My breath comes quicker.

I had a glimpse of where this is going, but the extreme machinations of Kelly, a woman determined to keep her man, no matter what the lengths she has to go to, knows no bounds.

I sit tensely waiting …..

Crawlspace is a dark and horrifying tale that had me on the edge of my seat, wringing my hands.

I did not see the end coming and couldn’t help but chuckle a bit when it did.

I may have a morbid sense of humor.

I am an armchair editor and found some minor issues.

They did not affect my rating, because the writing was so imaginative, I feel Crawlspace deserves a high rating.

After all, how do you take something as common as infidelity and make it into a story you can’t put down?

This is a free read, so grab your copy now!

MY REVIEW

White Lady by Jessica Bell is a psychological thriller that starts out slow. It seems as if the people are your normal, run of the mill people, just trying to get through life but, WHOA! I sure did not see that happening! The ending caught me off guard and left me speechless.

We start out with all the issues teenagers have – bullying , weight gain, friends, desertion by a parent……

The more I read, the tension rises. These people are seriously fucked up.

Mia – I used to be hot, now I’m not. She used to be the school slut, but since her mother left she has become a chubette. She has self esteem issues and loathes what she has become.

Nash is Mia’s dad and a teacher at her school.

Celeste is the mother who deserted her and her father.

Sonia is also a teacher at the school.

Mick is her son. His father has deserted their family too. He is way out of control. I thought he needed a slap up side the head.

Kimiko is an exotic beauty, a fellow student.

Who the heck is this Ibraham that everyone’s talking about?

I had a feeling about Sonia, but is anybody sane?

All the characters come together and things that seemed like the usual life and death dramatics in a teen’s life, change to real danger.

I went back and forth with this book. Twenty per cent through, I was ready to quit. I kept reading and  by thirty percent it began to capture my attention . By sixty percent I’m hooked. And the ending…WHEW! That is why I try to finish every book I read. I cannot anticipate what secrets are hidden in the pages and I don’t want to miss anything good. 😆

The book changed from the growing pains of teenagers to an adult psychological mystery. The characters are manipulated and the push and pull as they try to find their way takes them down a path that will have severe repercussions.

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos3 Stars – Would Recommend To  Others

ABOUT THE BOOK

*This novel contains coarse language, violence, and sexual themes.

Sonia yearns for sharp objects and blood. But now that she’s rehabilitating herself as a “normal” mother and mathematics teacher, it’s time to stop dreaming about slicing people’s throats.

While being the wife of Melbourne’s leading drug lord and simultaneously dating his best mate is not ideal, she’s determined to make it work.

It does work. Until Mia, her lover’s daughter, starts exchanging saliva with her son, Mick. They plan to commit a crime behind Sonia’s back. It isn’t long before she finds out and gets involved to protect them.

But is protecting the kids really Sonia’s motive?

9 LIVES by George Moser

9 Lives is George Moser’s debut novel and it is a doozy.
Do you like kitty kats?
Well, you may think twice after reading 9 Lives.

Enjoy this fun and spooktacular REVIEW:

Who’s Afraid Of A Little Kitty Kat?

MY TEASE

(page 179 of  paperback)

“Come here, kitty, kitty, kitty.”
The cat raised its head, and those pointed black ears lifted before it slowly took one step toward Shawn, one front leg crossing the other in an imaginary line. The brown tail curled back and forth while it stepped closer to Shawn. Dark black eyes were wide open when Shawn realized the one was milky white.

“That’s odd.”

SYNOPSIS

Do cats really have 9 Lives? Find out in this suspense-thrilling page-turner that will definitely keep you up all night! On a seemingly ordinary day, Michael Merlino, a successful man with a picture-perfect family, accidentally killed a stray cat. Unbeknownst to him, this mundane occurrence was to become the day he would never forget as a series of eerie and tormenting events begin to haunt him and his family. Will he solve the mystery behind these series of bizarre and horrendous happenings? Where will this all lead to? Discover the answer in this spine-tingling horror story you wouldn’t want to miss.
.
Nine Lives is the thrilling debut novel from George M. Moser, a captivating and quirky tale in which a chilling horror rises from the most unlikely of places. Masterfully fusing legends of Egyptian antiquity with elements of popular horror and urban myth, Moser delivers an atmospheric narrative full of dark twists and turns. Moser conjures characters of deep emotional richness, bringing a heartfelt realism to his work. Nine Lives portrays the twin fears of a man who is haunted by his own psychological demons as well as demons from the beyond. Evil manifests itself as terrifying feline beasts as well as more familiar incarnations such as denial, self-doubt, dishonesty and greed. At times romantic and at times absurdist, Moser’s thoughtful and captivating storytelling delivers a tale of black comedy and powerful human drama making Nine Lives into much more than a horror story. A rip-roaring plot with a noble morality, Nine Lives is a must-read for all discerning fiction fans, cat lovers, horror buffs and indeed, anyone who likes a great read with a truly worthwhile message.

EXCERPT

“Murkovin!” a roaring male voice echoes through the hills.

Rain plummets from the sky, blackened storm clouds churn in place, and my eyes try to adjust to Darkness. I spin to the shout behind me, immediately knowing I’m on the same hill as I’d been when I was twelve. There’s not a doubt in my mind.

Needles race up my spine when I see the shirtless creature crouched at the base of the hill. Tall with black veins bulging from ghostly white skin, the beast of a man scans the terrain. Wearing only black leathery pants, firm ridges of muscle lining his stomach and chest, he wildly swings a metal spear in one hand.

His head snaps to me. Long black hair twined with white whips across his face while his empty hand slashes the air in front of him. When his eyes touch mine, shadowy sockets flare blood red. The brute charges up the hill at me.

I lurch the other way and sprint into the meadow below. A torrent of rain slams against my skin as deafening creaks pierce the air. I see the flailing tree in front of me and try to stop, but my bare feet slip across the slick wet grass.

A glowing red limb lashes at me, slams into my chest, and hurls me to the ground. As the branch smashes into me again, I jerk my hands up in defense. Blood instantly spurts from gashes torn into my face, neck, and arms. Rolling across the grass, I frantically try to get out of its reach.

When I stop a few feet away, landing flat on my back, I stare straight up. A monstrous bough high above flexes into a fisted hand. I try to jump to my feet but a blur scoops me from the ground. As we speed away from the tree, silky wisps of black and scarlet brush across my face. A thunderous slam vibrates from behind us, the wooden fist pounding into the ground where, a moment earlier, my body would have been.

Into the valley we race until we’re outside the range of groping limbs. After we slide to a stop, I’m gently set on the grass. I look up to see the girl I met when I was twelve standing over me—the girl called Sash.

Her thin arms are barbed with muscular detail as she tightly grasps her spear. Metallic points, steel spikes sticking out the top of a pack slung over her shoulder, flash from behind her head. She peers down at me through radiant amber eyes.

“Are you injured?” she growls, silver raindrops beading down her hair.

In A Death in Vegas, the president of BenBugs, a company that specializes in beneficial bugs for organic gardening, discovers a young woman dead in his Las Vegas hotel suite. She had worked as a sexy lady bug at his convention booth—and he had nothing to do with her death. While that’s being investigated, the FBI raids his booth on a money-laundering scam that he knows nothing about, either. Soon, the coroner doesn’t have good news. The police and FBI are against him—and his wife cannot be found. He flees to find the answers.

MY REVIEW

I love the cover and title for A Death In Vegas by Christopher Meeks. It foreshadows this intriguing mystery as Patton stumbles, fumbles and gropes his way through the investigation of the murder of Samantha (Chatterley), looking for his own answers.

How does a bug guy at a convention end up waking in the morning to find a dead girl in his hotel room? The premise is pretty cliché, but the way Patton conducts his own investigation is not. You will want to read A Death In Vegas to find out.

He could feel it, his life was about to change.

That’s putting it mildly. Uh oh. I’m sure this can’t be good. Christopher throws a great twist my way and I find I am only partially right.

My first thought is: Patton Burch deserves the bad I know is coming his way. Will Chris be able to change my mind? In one word, yes.

Patton is a naïve guy that happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He does some pretty dumb things and digs the hole he is in deeper and deeper. One thing leads to another and another.

Who knows what would have happened if Patton didn’t take the path he did. I liked being along for the ride, as Patton follows the trail of clues. He reminds me of the bumbling Columbo, only Patton is not acting.

Sometimes people cannot count on the police to get the correct answer. The authorities can be quick to settle for the easier and more obvious solution to the crime.

A Death In Vegas was a fun mystery and easy to read. I read it in a couple of hours. As I strolled through Vegas with Patton, I recognized the streets and casino hotels. I have never been to the wine country of California, but did enjoy seeing it through Patton’s eyes. The multiple storylines kept me on my toes as I read on trying to figure out who is good and who is bad.

I liked learning about using beneficial bugs for organic gardeners instead of poisons and pesticides.

I recieved a copy of A Death In Vegas in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Praise for Blood Drama by Christopher Meeks

“What sets this novel apart from other thriller is the development of the characters.  Not only is Medina more complex than the stereotypical FBI agent found in many suspense novels, but Nash is a new type of victim.  His theater and academic background give him an interesting perspective.  This is definitely a suspenseful, can’t-put-it-down thriller.  Clear your calendar in order to have time to read this from start to finish!“- Tammy, The Self-Taught Cook

“Blood Drama was highly entertaining and extremely enjoyable. It is a combination black comedy and crime novel. The characters of Ian and Aleece are memorable, quirky, and unique. I  reveled in Ian’s quoting David Mamet (or some other playwright or work of literature) to deduce and interpret the information he had to ascertain where the clues were leading them.   Meeks is a gifted writer. He has a pleasing way of propelling the action forward while developing his plot and characters. I enjoyed Meeks Love at Absolute Zero quite a bit, but I liked Blood Drama even more. I’m hopeful that Meeks will bring back Ian and Aleece to solve another crime.”- Lori, She Treads Softly

“This is one action packed thriller that you don’t want to put down. The author doesn’t waste time with the trivial, he gets right to the action and stays there. Just when you think things are as bad as they possible could get…wrong!
This was different from most thrillers I read in that it also has a little humor, I absolutely loved that aspect of the book.  The characters are well written, they seem like real people, flaws and all. There’s also romance in this book, which gives you a little relief from the gripping adventures.  I liked this book very much and so I will be checking to see what other books this author has written.“- Vicky, I’d Rather Be At the Beach

“This story had me hooked just out of pity for the poor guy, but when things turned from bad to worse I couldn’t put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next. This was far from the typical suspense/thriller. Yes, it does follow the MOs you expect in some areas but the characters make it so unique.  I loved these characters. They were so unique that I could see them as real. They had their quirks and secrets that revealed their flaws and their vulnerabilities Nothing is really too farfetched. Yes, there is one character you might argue is but I live in a huge city. Trust me, it is not farfetched. Can’t say more or I let a big secret slip which is a no-no in reviews.  If you love suspense/thrillers that have some humor, you’ll love this book. Yes, it kept me riveted. You have to read this book. You’ll enjoy it and want more. Plus you’ll learn to appreciate your own days a little bit better.”Rebecca Graf, A Book Lover’s Library

“Having read and reviewed every book and play written by the gifted Christopher Meeks it was with some trepidation to pick up a novel with a title BLOOD DRAMA packaged by a cover that suggested he’d joined the au courant genre of spy and murder and intrigue army of writers, forsaking his own quirky and deliciously entertaining usual topics of onstage interpersonal relationship scenarios of his previous books. Had he sold out to the bigger market of bestseller yet rapidly transient airport books? Happily, after getting attached to his satisfyingly rather strange hero in the first chapter and the fear that he had abandoned his signature warmth and tasteful dissection of ordinary people, the pages practically turned themselves.
Meeks has the gift to mold characters with such extensive backstories that after only a few pages as each new character is introduced they become part of the surround-sound family into whose story we have wandered.
The book is so rich in feisty humor, in theatrically enacted derring-do as the pursuit of the quartet of bank robbers ensues, some fine psychological insights into these strange but likeable folk from the Southern California setting Meeks knows and lives so well – well, so rich, period, that it begs to be read. Meeks may have daringly (for him) stepped into new territory, but the fact that he continues to remain in the rarefied atmosphere of fine contemporary authors is secure.” Grady Harp, Amazon Hall of Fame Reviewer
