Marcia Andrews is a freelance psychic consultant. Sick of living hand to mouth, she accepts a contract with Raleigh Police. A new gang called The Cardinals is terrorizing The Triangle, and Marcia gives the department an edge in tracking them. Help that she is, one cop isn’t so keen on her involvement, and makes sure she knows it.
Detective Nat McCoy would rather see Marcia in his bedroom than the bullpen. The gorgeous Scotsman isn’t the typical chauvinist pig, though. He’s keeping a secret that even the psychic doesn’t anticipate.
A close encounter with a Cardinal’s bullet knocks Marcia off her game when the police need her most. She loses hours to trances and ghosts haunt her sleep. She can hardly function, and everything she thought she knew about playboy McCoy suddenly seems questionable. McCoy thinks he knows the cure for what ails her—him. But can she trust him?

The plague of the Zombies was upon them. President Garfield’s address ended with, “You’re on your own and good luck.”

Trace was facing a showdown over the poker table, when she walked into the saloon..
She killed the zombie, chugged an Old Grand Dad and left. He followed her.
Why did she look so familiar? Then, he remembered the Wanted poster.
When he called her Red, she thought, it might be easier to shoot him now.
She tried to keep an emotional distance, but her posse kept growing at every stop she made.
Was she the only one of her kind? Was she a miracle?
Would she be their salvation or their curse?
5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)
I gave this book five stars, because it was a total surprise. I thought – Zombies – Wild West – where can she go with this. And she took me on a ride through towns, prairies, hot and cold and everything you can think the Wild West would include. Except for the Zombies. A unique read and I am always happy to come across a book that surprises me and takes me off on a new and different adventure.
This was a quick read. Gripping from the first pages. Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. Didn’t even want to write this review. I wanted to go right into the next book. But, I have found, when I do that, I end up totally confused when it comes time to write the review. So I will do this first, then, you better believe I will be grabbing my Kindle and reading Survivor Roundup, The Zombie West Series #2. So be sure and come back for the next review.
Read like a real Western, except for the Zombies. My dad always loved Westerns. And when I was younger, there weren’t all the TV channels you have today. So I read a lot of his books and watched The Rifleman, Bonanza, Maverick, Cheyenne, Gene Autry, Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel…….Too many to name. When I remember them, I have fond memories of my dad. So, thank you Angela, for bringing those memories back to me.
Even though it was an arc, it was well written and flowed smoothly. I raced through the pages, not knowing what would happen to Red. It is rare for me to find a book so full of surprises and that rates very high with me. There is plenty of gore, slashing and ripping, biting and munching. The blood flies along with the body parts.
And Romance, plenty of that too. Even though Red tries to avoid it, Trace won’t give up on her. As her posse grows, so does her love for them.
I won a signed, first edition, paperback Arc of Wanted: Dead Or Undead, The Zombie West Series #1 by Angela Scott, back in December and she signed it “Babies are super cute – until they want to eat you.” How cool is that? I had to make it the title to my post, it was too good to pass up and every time I look at it, I get a big grin on my face and laugh quietly.
Then, in April, I won Survivor Roundup, Book 2. The books were screaming at me to be read. I am so glad I won Book 2, because I wanted to start reading it as soon as I finished with Wanted: Dead or Undead. So I can. And you can too. Dead Plains, Book 3, is due out this fall.
Be sure and read the author bio. I love learning about the authors of the books I read and oftentimes find them as entertaining as the books themselves. Like a super short story.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I hear voices. Tiny fictional people sit on my shoulders and whisper their stories in my ear. Instead of medicating myself, I decided to pick up a pen, write down everything those voices tell me, and turn it into a book. I’m not crazy. I’m an author.
For the most part, I write contemporary Young Adult novels. However, through a writing exercise that spiraled out of control, I found myself writing about zombies terrorizing the Wild Wild West—and loving it. My zombies don’t sparkle, and they definitely don’t cuddle. At least, I wouldn’t suggest it.
I live on the benches of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains with two lovely children, one teenager, and a very patient husband. I graduated from Utah State University with a B.A. degree in English, not because of my love for the written word, but because it was the only major that didn’t require math. I can’t spell, and grammar is my arch nemesis. But they gave me the degree, and there are no take backs.
As a child, I never sucked on a pacifier; I chewed on a pencil. I’ve been writing that long. It has only been the past few years that I’ve pursued it professionally, forged relationships with other like-minded individuals, and determined to make a career out of it.

.I cannot believe I was unaware of this prolific writer of love, suspense and mystery. I looked at her list of books and was staggered by the titles that jumped off the page and said:
“Read Me Please. I have been waiting for you for a very long time.”
For your chance at one of her books, go to the end of the post and enter often.
Blood Bound

BLURB:
Fueled by grief after his fiancée is brutally murdered, Detective Sam Walker focuses on finding her killer — a calculating predator who binds books with human skin. Dani Barrington, the newest member of NOPD’s Victim and Witness Assistance Unit and a survivor of another frightening attack, helps him discover the terrifying link between the monster’s known victims. Despite his anguish, Sam is struck by Dani’s strength and determination, especially when her inquisitive nature makes her the killer’s next target. He must find a way to protect her or risk losing the one woman who can bring his dead heart back to life.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
“Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.” NOPD Detective Sam Walker’s low rasp echoed inside the tiny confessional within the deep recesses of St. Mary’s Church. He pressed his damp palms to his thighs. “It’s been nine months since my last confession.”
“Continue.”
“My sins are… indescribable…” He let the word trail off. Sweat pooled at the base of his spine. “I don’t know if I can–“
“You must voice your transgressions, son, to get them off your chest. It’s the only way to gain absolution.”
“I don’t deserve God’s forgiveness.”
“Sam, tell me the truth.” Father O’Malley cleared his throat. “Is this about Kristen?”
“She died a horrible death,” Sam whispered, his heart breaking all over again for his fiancée and the family he would never have with her.
The priest paused.
“It’s been a long time.”
“Eight fucking — sorry, Father.” Sam broke off and swallowed, doing his best to regain his composure. “Eight long months. I thought I was coping, but I can’t get past it. Especially since I’m the reason she’s dead.”
“How did you come to that conclusion?”
Sam pressed his lips together. Every time he thought about his fiancée’s brutal murder, his gut clenched. He should have taken her to dinner that night like he’d promised, instead of letting the job get in the way. The Glock riding his hip was a constant reminder he’d been a detective first, and her intended husband second.
God should damn me straight to hell.
Father O’Malley shifted inside the tiny booth, and the ornate screen between them shuddered. The too-sweet odor of funeral lilies wafted over Sam.
“You didn’t murder her, my son. Some sick, depraved individual did it.”
“I was supposed to protect her.”
“You were doing your job.”
“When I should have been with her. Keeping her safe.” Agony pierced his soul. He dropped his elbows to his knees and hung his head. His voice broke. “I let her die.”
“You didn’t let her die, Sam. A terrible thing happened. It wasn’t your fault. God doesn’t hold you responsible.”
“Well, He should. I’m guilty.”
“Sam–“
“He… he skinned her, Father. I don’t know why, but he did.” Tears burned his eyes.
Clearly shaken, Father O’Malley murmured more words of condolence. “I’ll say another prayer for her soul.”
“It’s my fault she’s gone. I can never do enough penance to make up for it.” Sam shuddered. “Not in this lifetime.”
“I want you to say one Our Father and one Hail Mary.”
Sam barked a harsh laugh.
“That doesn’t even scratch the surface. I can’t even–“
“Wait. I’m not finished.” Father O’Malley regained his poise, and his strong, even tone reverberated in Sam’s ears. “I also want you to pray for the person responsible for Kristen’s death.”
“Hell, no!” Sam blurted, the idea of absolution jolting his brittle psyche. “I can’t pray for that sick son of a bitch. He’s killed four women, including Kristen, after brutalizing them, and we have no idea who he is. We’re working day and night–“
“That’s your penance, son.” Father O’Malley said, gravely. “In addition, you must perform the Act of Contrition and say the Rosary. Don’t let that individual’s cruel soul steal yours.”
Welcome to the “Second Chances” daynight blog tour! Over the last few day/nights I was really excited to share with you:
– Over $300 of daynight-related prizes as a giant THANK YOU to the thousands of daynight early adopters and those who have yet to enter the twisted world of The Second Chance Institute and Thera. Want to prepare for Exile? Or an overday date with Ethan? Have breakfast for dinner? Glam it up in Garden City? There are *12* prize packages to be won! We’ll introduce a new package every day of the tour so you’ll have a second, third & so forth chance to win.
.
– The launch of clean slate complex(a daynight story)…For those who have read daynight you can learn more about what the SCI is up to on Earth (surely nothing good). For those who haven’t read daynight this is a great way to get your feet wet…test the waters so to speak. I warn you though…the SCI’s like Jaws Jr and the giant school of barracuda I encountered on my recent vacation–pretty from a distance, but up close they’ve got a lot of bite ;).
.
– Posters, teasers and guest posts about the themes of daynight and clean slate complex... Plus, I’m fully prepared to sneak in some nuggets about what to expect in the daynight sequel, arbitrate.
.
Thanks again for joining us on the tour and for your support of daynight. I’m grateful for all of you and humbled by your support.
Thankfully I got Brad Darcton, a member of the ruling Ten of the SCI to help me out… no one said that I couldn’t bring a guest to my guest post so I’m going for it. I warn you to take what he says with a grain of salt. The guy’s a walking SCI propaganda poster.
The dystopia category is pretty broad these days. By definition a dystopian world must have:Extremely bad living conditions due to deprivation, oppression, or terrorBy that definition my kids probably think our home qualifies.
I don’t necessarily think that the SCI is evil, even though I may believe that some of the things they do are. They have a reason for doing what they do, and I’m so thankful to Megan for daring to explain those “whys.”
Brad: We want only the best for humanity. All you have to do is turn on the news on Earth to know that humanity’s been in a downward spiral. Someone’s got to step up and nip these issues in the bud. And I don’t know any organization better prepared to do just than than The Second Chance Institute.
I was very impressed with this book. I read it in a couple of days, even though I had a lot of work to do for school and other things. I just couldn’t put it down.
I needed all three characters to fully tell the story… Each perspective adds important pieces to the puzzle and as the characters collide there’s a few fireworks.
We get a glimpse of the characters from daynight in this novella and it definitely perked my interest in the next book to see how everything fits back together and intertwines.
clean slate complex was a fast read and it went very well after reading daynight. You know that feeling when you finish reading a good novel and you know you’re going to miss the characters and the world the author created so much until the next book comes out? Well, this novella is perfect for those who need their daynight fix.
Wow!! I’m really not sure where to start with this one. This book is full of twists and turns and turns and more turns. There’s LOTS of secrets, deceit, betrayal, friendship, love, lust, power hungry adults, creepy rules, etc. You name it, this has it (aside from swearing and detailed sex–a plus).
Knowing that escaping won’t make the bad stuff go away, why do we do it? I think that the diversions and fantasies can give our brains enough of a “timeout” to be able to return back to our circumstances with renewed vigor and determination.
You never know who to trust. You honestly don’t even know until the very end. Some of the characters, who will remain nameless, you still don’t know their true intentions! I can’t wait to read Thomason’s next book, once it comes out. I’m just dying to know what happens to these characters, if who we think we can trust is really trustworthy… if the SCI has some other twisted objective.
If you can’t tell just yet, this was a five star read. Many of my notes in my kindle are highlights that say “HOLY CRAP” or “OMG!” or “ARE YOU FLIPPING KIDDING ME?!” My poor kindle probably has bruises from me punching the screen with my finger to get to the next page as quickly as I could.
There is a bit of a love triangle here, as both Adam and Joshua have expressed interest in Alexa. We get a pretty big plot twist and Alexa learns SCI is not at all what it claims to be, and Joshua’s allegiance is wishy washy at best.Alexa, Adam, and Joshua will all appear in Arbitrate, the second book in the Daynight series.
Good news! We’ll likely die before being forced to live in a dystopian society. Our only exposure will be through fiction. And thank goodness. Because realistically, none of us would have much of a chance of making it in a dystopia without meeting an early demise or becoming one of the brain-dead masses.
Daynight is a creative alternative world. It contains a great love triangle and is entertaining and suspenseful. I love being transported outside my realm of knowledge to new places that exist only between the pages of a book. Thomason has created believable characters, sexual tension, fast moving plot and dangerous living conditions.
No one knows how many serial killers are roaming the United States. Some experts believe they murder as many as 180 people each year. Others say the count may be much higher because some serial killers hide the bodies and they’re never found.Stalkers far outnumber serial killers. Each year they threaten and intimidate 3.4 million people in America. Although stalkers may profess love for the objects of their obsession, many seriously injure or kill their “love object.”Domestic homicide is rampant in the US. Every day, 3 women, 3 children and 1 man die in domestic violence. Women and children rarely kill family members. Men commit the majority of domestic homicides. Some are crimes of passion. Others are carefully calculated. Why bother with a divorce when you can kill your spouse?Available all over the world. Get your copy today!
“I want you to give this after the explosion to that pretty lady dressed as a man,” he told the boy as he handed him an envelope.
That is how international journalist Jade Snow was led on a life altering journey.
Jade is in Iraq to shoot a documentary about the insurgents. All that changes when she witnesses a suicide bombing in Baghdad.
As Jade and her cameraman, Alejandro, took cover from the blast, she felt a tug on her sleeve. The boy handed her the envelope and she read – “Why I became a terrorist.” The letter was so tragic, she could not ignore it.
With letter in hand, she is determined to get the real story. The Army threw the word “regrettable” around like it was confetti and it pissed her off. It drove her to seek answers.
Jade was able to talk to Sergeant Lucas, a friend of Sergeant O’Shea’s. O’Shea had been driving the truck when Mohammed rammed into it.
Sergeant Lucas took her to O’Shea’s room and she saw the desk, paper, pen and envelope, waiting for the letter that would never be written.
He also wanted to show Jade the garden. As she wondered at the Daisies growing in such a hostile place, he reached into his pocket……
The Media can be scum sucking leeches, would Jade prove the exception to the rule?
5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)
Amongst all the ugliness, how ironic that these men could see the beauty the desert beheld.
Lada Ray’s style of blending history and fiction makes me feel as if I am living the story. The emotions washed over me, leaving me with a sense of futility and profound loss.
The cover alone made me feel…..Well, I had preconceived ideas about the book. I devoured it. I thought I knew the story before hand, and felt such sorrow when it all came true. BUT Lada Ray added a little twist that I didn’t see coming.
Shows life comes full circle and it is a small world. Think about it . Has something ever happened to You, that caused you to feel that way? I feel this book shows that we have more in common than we think.
Supposedly, we got involved in Iraq because of Saddam, who killed and tortured his own people. Now that he was gone, why were we still there? Smart bombs and accidents. Weapons of mass destruction. But, why were we really there? Did the President have an ulterior motive? Were we deliberately deceived? All the questions have been asked. Were they ever answered? Makes me think of things I really don’t want to think about. It makes my head spin with feelings of anger and betrayal, not only for myself, but for the soldiers who put their lives on the line for us. Will we ever know the truth?
How lucky we are, here in the US! No matter how bad it gets, would you want to be anywhere else? Just think how people, like the Iraqi’s, with war all around, still have to go about their daily lives – work, school……..
What’s that saying – “Walk a mile in my shoes”.
I won this book on Lada Ray’s blog, along with Gold Train and Stepford USA, books in the Accidental Spy Adventure Series. I look forward to reading the rest in the series.
Follow by email to be updated on upcoming reviews for The Accidental Spy Adventure Series.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Living her life in the fast lane, Lada Ray, M.A., always wanted to write cool stories, which she’d been imagining in her head ever since she can remember. Instead, she listened to her well-meaning parents and started her life in a more traditional way (for her, that is). Born in Russia, she is a world traveler, linguist, financial consultant, Feng Shui Master, shaman, futurist, and metaphysics/spirituality researcher.
Lada holds a Master’s Degree in comparative linguistics (graduated summa cum laude,) is fluent in several languages and has traveled to twenty six countries in Europe, Asia, North and South America, as well as Africa. She had worked in Havana, Cuba as an interpreter for the Russian educational exchange delegations, including a couple of interviews with the man himself – Fidel Castro.
In the USA, she published articles in the Hartford Courant & taught Russian on cable TV. Then, something inexplicable possessed her to work as financial consultant for AIG and Smith Barney/Citigroup. But later, she came back to her senses and quit the corporate world to pursue her dreams. She studied Feng Shui in Hong Kong and Malaysia, and received her Feng Shui Master’s certification from the famed Asian author, Lilian Too (graduated first in class). For years, Lada operated an extensive feng shui website and blog – a hit with both local and worldwide fans – and authored over thirty articles on feng shui and spirituality. At the same time, she taught her proprietary feng shui courses and did public speaking.
A few years ago, Lada finally got her ultimate wish, and now she imagines her stories full-time in the bustling New York City and beautifully serene Catskill Mountains, NY, where she lives with her family and calico cat.
Lada Ray is the author of the Accidental Spy Adventure Series, including the Amazon & Kindle bestseller, GOLD TRAIN (Accidental Spy Russia Adventure), mystery/thriller STEPFORD USA (Accidental Spy Smalltown Adventure), and GOLD TRAIN (Accidental Spy Iraq Prequel). She is the creator of the new, top-rated metaphysical YA fantasy/thriller THE EARTH SHIFTER, and the EARTH KEEPERS CHRONICLES: ORIGINS (Catharsis, Lemurian Crystal, Atlantis).
I was on vacation and Shall We Tell the President? by Jeffrey Archer was one of the books calling to me from the bookshelf. I have read several of Jeffrey Archer’s books and will always grab another for my reading pleasure.
To Purchase from Amazon or see more books from Jeffrey Archer, simply click on the cover.
Goodreads Book Blurb:
After years of great sacrifice and deep personal tragedy, Florentyna Kane’s has finally become the first woman president in America. But on the very day that she is sworn into office, powerful forces are already in motion to take her life.
The FBI investigates thousands of false threats every year. This time, a reliable source has tipped them off about an assassination attempt. One hour later, the informant and all but one of the investigating agents are dead. The lone survivor: FBI Special Agent Mark Andrews. Now, only he knows when the killers will strike. But how can he alone unravel a ruthless conspiracy—in less than one week? The race to save the first woman president begins now…
4 STARS – Would Highly Recommend To Others
I love Jeffrey Archer’s books and have read several of them. This was written decades ago and can still compete with the more sophisticated books of the present.
Marc Andrews is on his own to find out who wants the president dead. Time is running out as he tries to eliminate the suspects.The suspense builds as the danger closes in on him.
For conspiracy theorists, this is a book you will want to read. I always figure, it is someone close to you who poses the biggest threat, because you believe and trust them. They can look you in the eye as they lie and plot against you. Such is the case here. Be sure to look to your right, left, front and back as you turn the pages. You never know where the strike will come from.
I still think of the Kennedy assassination and whether or not there was a government conspiracy that brought him down. Why would that be so impossible to believe? Our government is no less greedy and corrupt than any third world country. How far would someone go to achieve their goal? Look around at present day events and you may find your answer.
Prohibition….Gangsters….Bootleggers….Al Capone….and a 17-year-old girl named Eve Marryat who, in the tumultuous summer of 1931, learns the meaning of….
Expected publication: May 1 2013 by Bethany House Publishers
Premise:
When Eve Marryat’s father is laid off from the Ford Motor Company in 1931, he is forced to support his family by leaving St. Paul, Minnesota, and moving back to his Ohio roots. Eve’s uncle Cyrus has invited the family to live and work at his Marryat Island Ballroom and Lodge.
St. Paul seemed like a haven for gangsters, and Eve had grown fearful of living there. At seventeen, she considers her family to be “good people.” They aren’t lawbreakers and criminals like so many people in her old neighborhood. Thrilled to be moving to a “safe haven,” Eve is blissfully unaware that her uncle’s lodge is a transfer station for illegal liquor smuggled from Canada.
Eve settles in to work and makes new friends, including an enigmatic but affecting young man. But when the reality of her situation finally becomes clear, Eve is faced with a dilemma. How can she ignore what is happening right under their very noses? Yet can she risk everything by condemning the man whose love and generosity is keeping her and her family from ruin?
Ann Tatlock is the author of the Christy Award-winning novel Promises to Keep. She has also won the Midwest Independent Publishers Association “Book of the Year” in fiction for both All the Way Home and I’ll Watch the Moon.Her novel Things We Once Held Dear received a starred review from Library Journal and Publishers Weekly calls her “one of Christian fiction’s better wordsmiths, and her lovely prose reminds readers why it is a joy to savor her stories.” Ann lives with her husband and daughter in Asheville, North Carolina.
When the need for money was so dire you’re willing to do just anything and rulers are not following the rules because they want something for themselves… The novel will show the reader a glimpse how life was back then…
Eve… finds that no place is perfect and that you can find sadness and happiness anywhere. She also starts to realize that everything isn’t as black and white as she would like to believe. She falls in love and has her heart broken for the first time.
The story does a good job showing her heart changes throughout the process of the story. The verse quoted often is 1 Peter 4:8 – Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. The theme really is choosing love over legalism.
Average wage per year – $1,850.00 Average cost of new house – $6,790.00 Average cost for house rent – $18.00 per month Average cost of new car – $640.00 A gallon of gas – 10 cents A loaf of bread – 8 cents A pound of hamburger meat – 11 cents
Taking a deep breath, I say, “Well, I’ll tell you what, had I known what was waiting for me in Mercy, Ohio, I might not have been so eager leave Minnesota….”
The town is small, quaint, and free of crime.. or at least Eve believes it. When she learns that the small town of Mercy is overrun with crime just as other parts of the world, her self righteousness shows through.
The history is rich, the characters fascinating, and the outcome beautiful. If you’re someone who likes a good coming of age story, you might want to take a peek inside Sweet Mercy and decide for yourself if you like the gangster-ridden cities of the thirties.
I was on vacation, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have time to read some books. No Lesser Plea by Robert K. Tanenbaum was one of the books at the condo. I have read several books by this author and will always pick up another one to read.
To Purchase from Amazon or see more of the authors many books, simply click on the cover.
Roger Karp, the DA with a sense of justice that just won’t quit, prosecutes Mandeville Louis for cold-bloodedly killing two people while committing the robbery of a liquor store. Mandeville throws a fit in court and manages to cop an insanity plea instead of a murder conviction. Karp cannot let it lie. When the transcript is filed, Karp writes on it – No Lesser Plea.
4 STARS – Would Highly Recommend To Others
Love the cover and the premise of the book. I figured this was pretty predictable, but Robert Tanenbaum always has plenty of twists and turns to keep your mind busy. He builds suspense, as I wait, knowing something is going to happen, just not sure what.
Roger Karp – a demand for justice that won’t quit
Mandeville – an evil killer that won’t quit
Marlene Ciampi – the woman caught between them
I loved and hated the characters as Mandeville took me on a journey to try and beat the system. BUT – He continues to kill, even from the hospital. He tries to slip through the cracks, as he seeks freedom from the mental hospital. The lawyer, who is assigned his case, struggles to find a way to keep him from walking. He eyes the file again and sees written – No Lesser Plea. Because of his due diligence, another criminal will pay for his crimes.
While we may not have the perfect “justice” system, would you rather have another?
