Review – For Home And Hearth by Ethan Warrener #ethanwarrener

MY REVIEW

I am a huge fan of apocalyptic and dystopian fiction, so when Ethan Warrener offered me a copy, I was happy to grab his debut novel, For Home And Hearth.

It started a bit slow for me, but that’s okay. Ethan lays a solid foundation for the novel, introducing characters and the world they live in, fleshing them out as the book progresses.

Ella Holland is the star of the show. When a drifter comes to their small town in West Virginia, bringing the pigmen at their doorstep, she struggles to protect him…and herself. The town definitely does not look kindly on strangers.

The characters run the gamut, which happens when people are struggling to survive. It seems everyone wants or needs what others have and will do whatever they must to get it. For Home and Hearth is a prime example of genetic engineering gone wrong.

Once For Home And Hearth by Ethan Warrener got going I couldn’t stop reading. I think Ethan has a hit with his debut novel and I am looking forward to seeing what comes next.

MY REVIEW

This is not my first walk on the dark side with Calvin Demmer. This short story collection brought horrible surprises to light and the evil stalking the pages never let up. Definitely cringe worthy. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Through The Ravenous Night by Calvin Demmer.

Review – His Brother’s Dragon by Maggie Tideswell @LunaMags

MY REVIEW

His Brother’s Dragon by Maggie Tideswell is Book II of the Tasmanian Vampire Colony trilogy. It picks up where His Brother’s Mate left off, so I recommend reading the series in order.

Harriet was in love with Enso. She would do anything to be with him, even if that meant becoming a vampire. Benji, Enso’s brother, is obsessed with her. By him becoming her ‘father’ and changing her, it makes her off limits to him. There was a crazy quadrangle going on and I wondered if Harriet would ever be safe in the colony.

Mariah is Benji’s wife, pregnant with his child. She is also a dragon. He continues to deny that she is his mate, and in His Brother’s Dragon we will get the answer.

Steamy sex scenes, vampire and dragon slayers, obsession, and danger surround the characters, which are well rounded and continue to develop throughout the series. The action keeps the pace of the novel moving along, keeping me involved, having to know how it will end.

The trilogy will be wrapped up with Suzanne’s story in Her Brother’s Keeper.

MY REVIEW

Lethal Wilderness Trap by Susan Furlong is a fast paced thriller that I read in one sitting. It has a light Christian touch and had me rapidly flipping pages as the mystery unfolded. We have plenty of suspects and the villains were hidden amongst the red herrings. The characters felt real, and I quickly became involved in their outcome. Sure, the romance happened quickly, but when you know, you know. Having a K9 companion adds a nice touch and he plays a significant role in Lethal Wilderness Trap. I’ll have my eyes open for more from Susan Furlong.

Review – Fear Of The Light by Ross Harrison @AuthoRoss

MY REVIEW

Fear Of The Light by Ross Harrison is the eight novel in the Nexus universe. I have missed all the previous novels, except Forge Of The Assassin, but never felt lost. Sure, I didn’t know how all the characters came together, so I do highly recommend beginning at the beginning to get the full benefit.

Fear Of The Light is about the gunslinger, Archer, and the assassin, Juni. They are a couple…with secrets.

Archer is playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse. The sins of the father have passed down to him, but Juni is the one paying the price. She has been taken, and each day brings her closer to death.

Ross Harrison has created a fantastic science fiction world that I got lost in. There are lots of characters, but be careful of who you choose as your favorite. Not all of them will make it to the end. The suspense hovers over the pages, and I am waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop. Every time I turn around, the danger increases.

When I got to the end…

It left me wondering…what comes next.

Bending The ARC by Nicholas Gretener is a story that pits lawyer, Steve Shane against a team of lawyers from the notable firm of Todd Ives Tillington. The disparity between them makes the outcome seem like a forgone conclusion. Not so fast.

How can the scales of justice be balanced? Enter LawForce, a legal SWAT team led by Steve Shane to do just that.

I had thought all the battles would take place in the courtroom, but that is not the case. On land and sea, Steve Shane will struggle to save Wildcat Oil & Gas from the Green Action Coalition.

Wildcat Oil & Gas is plagued by accidents, each more deadly than the last. But, things are not as they seem. At times, Nicholas Gretener had me sitting on the edge of my seat, tightly gripping my ereader as I raced through the pages to see what was going to happen next. Not all the characters will survive and I did not take their deaths lightly. I may have even shed a tear or two as the book came to its conclusion.

The Bond Once Broken is the sequel to The Girl Once Known by R M Demeester, so it’s best to read it first.

These dysfunctional characters, Sherry and Sierra, pass their legacy on to their children. Secrets and lies have followed them from childhood to adulthood. Sherry has worked hard to pull herself together, but Sierra cannot let the past go.

The Bond Once Broken is a complex psychological thriller that will have your head spinning, so brace yourself. You won’t want to stop reading once you start.

R – Lair Rising by D V Sullivan @bydvsullivan

MY REVIEW

Well, now she’s gone and done it. Fell in love with a vampire…but, she doesn’t want to become one. The thought of living in the dark doesn’t appeal to her. How can she have it all? Is it true what ‘they’ say? If they kill his maker, he will become human? She is determined to find out, but it won’t be that easy. In fact, it is deadly.

I love the whole ‘Below Deck’ vibe of working on a yacht, especially considering the owner, Adrian Voper, is a vampire. Seems there is a whole colony of vampires owning yachts and they need the help to clean up the messes they make. I can only imagine what that entails, until I read about it.

I love the blood, guts and gore. There was one scene that blew me away. I know it was so wrong of me, but I found myself smiling as I read along. It has that B movie vibe going on.

Arie sure has come a long way, from a cowering young girl to a kickass woman and she will take names and she will not take any prisoners.

I want to thank D V Sulllivan for the opportunity to read Lair Rising.

Review – Shift by Raine Thomas @Raine_Thomas

MY REVIEW

It’s always hard to write a review for a series, because less is more to keep from spoiling the story for you. Shift by Raine Thomas picks up where Defy left off and, even though it has been a little while since I read Defy, I was never lost. It surprises me, because I read a ton of books and that is kudos to Raine Thomas for writing such great stories that I remembered so much and my feelings picked up where they had left off.

There are ten different character classes, so if you need help deciphering who’s who, there is a glossary at the end of the book. I won’t go in depth trying to explain them, but I will tell you there are definite communication problems, though love finds a way.

The characters, especially Sophia and Tate are sure to grab your heart and break it all at the same time. Danger surrounds them at every turn, as they have something the villain wants..and he is one wicked devil, who will stop at nothing to get it.

I laughed and I cried along with the characters. They will draw you into their magical world and hold tight. I couldn’t stop reading. Raine Thomas has created a world that amazed me. I often wonder how an author comes up with such a wonderfully written fantasy.

That ending…

I’m glad that Raine Thomas made sure I had the next book handy.
