Have You Ever Seen This At The Beach?!!!

I went to the beach and found this unusual sight.

After five days without power in the Gulf of Mexico, the more than 4,200 people aboard the Carnival Triumph returned home to the U.S., with many of them telling their horror stories for the first time.

Passengers began to disembark the damaged ship around 10:15 p.m. CT Thursday in Mobile, Ala. The last passenger disembarked the ship at 1 a.m. local time, according to Carnival’s Twitter handle.

Passenger Brandi Dorsett was thankful to be home, especially for her mother, who was with her on the ship. Dorsett said she wasn’t pleased with the doctor on staff.

“My mother is a diabetic, and they would not even come to the room because she cannot walk the stairs to help her with insulin. She hasn’t had insulin in three days,” Dorsett said.

The Carnival Triumph departed Galveston, Texas, last Thursday and lost power Sunday after a fire in the engine room disabled the vessel’s propulsion system and knocked out most of its power.

Giveaway and Review of The Blake Soul by I. C. Camilleri

A psychological horror novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Blake Soul

Add to Goodreads

Maria was on top of the world, until she lost her parents and her fiancée. As her world fell apart around her, all she wanted to do was run. She jumped on a plane to LA and hit the nearest bookstore. She wanted to lose herself in someone else’s story. Without a thought for where she would stay while in LA, she went to the park to read.

Josh‘s nightmare had changed. Now there was a man crying and he, himself, was a man instead of a boy. He saw the path and knew he had been down it before. What he had seen made him determined not to go there again.

Josh’s mother rarely saw him, and when she did, the mental abuse she heaped on him was almost more than he could stand. She was wealthy and he had been raised in luxurious surroundings by his English nurse, Julie, and he  thought of her as his mother. His father was unknown to him, but he had an obsession about finding him.

He dove into books to escape, so it wasn’t that odd that he became an Oscar winning, heart-throb of an actor. Maybe it wasn’t ironic, that he had no respect, only scorn for women.

In his dream, he had seen the time on the man’s watch, 5:00. He knew he had to be there.

.

He drove to the park to meet his “father”. He needed a book to pass the time while he waited for him to appear, so he went to the bookstore. That’s when he saw her. He sensed he knew her, had cared for her, but he couldn’t remember ever meeting her. How could it be? Why couldn’t he remember?

As he sat on the  bench, reading, Maria walked by. He surreptitiously watched her. He was drawn to her. She fell asleep and he felt the need to watch over her. Even though he was wide awake, he was dreaming. In his dream, she was there.

When he came back to the present, confused, she was still asleep. His mind must be playing tricks on him. He had a photographic memory and thought that was why he was able to see into the future. It was only memories.

As he watched her, his dream became reality. He tried to send her a message with his eyes and she responded, but it was too late. He remembered his dream, the blood and the screams.

They began dragging her off the path. Deja vu. His dream was really happening, right before his eyes. She felt it too and questioned herself. How could this be?

red ferrari Pictures, Images and Photos

They talked in the Ferrari, as he drove her to the hospital. Her name was Maria Conti and she was a doctor, a cancer researcher, from England. He could tell, as they talked, that she was naive and trusting. He kept trying to figure out how he knew her. He kept asking her questions. He knew, as if he had ESP, that he had cared deeply for her and they had been together.

He thought that his photographic memory and great observations skills were why he knew what was going to happen, but it was so much more than that.

She told him her father had studied the paranormal. When he touched her hand, he saw their future flash before his eyes.

She had nowhere to stay, so he talked her into spending her two-week holiday at his place. They would just have fun.

” Are you up for that challenge?”

He fell hard for her and he had only two weeks to figure out how to make her fall in love with him and want to stay. She kept wondering why she was so drawn to him. She was very independent and had kept her fiance at a distance. Why was it so different with Josh?

Maria told him she had to go back to the UK. She knew she had to go back and break up with Rob. Then she could decide where to go from there. He told himself, he would give her two weeks, then he was going to get her. He couldn’t imagine his life without her.

What would happen when she went home? Would she forget him? Would she welcome him, when he came to bring her back with him? What about the dreams? Was that their future?

They talked and he kept thinking of all the clichés.

“Out of sight, out of mind”

“Absence makes the heart grow fonder”.

Being separated made it worse, but now it was time for him to go to her. Would he find the answers to his dreams with her?

The man he had seen in his visions wasn’t his father. Why would he come to Josh – a selfish womanizer?

Will he find the answers when he joins Maria in the UK? Or is his destiny to live life over and over and over again?

5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

I loved the cover and the title is short, to the point and appropriate for the story.

The book is long and detailed, so grab a cocktail, start up the fire, put your feet up and open the cover, or kindle, for a dive into Josh’s world. The pain and anguish he goes through, not once, not twice, but three times….What if you knew your future? Would you interfere and change it, and keep changing it if you didn’t like the result?

The bad comes with the good. How do you know if by changing it, you are only making it worse. Would it happen any  way? Maybe a different day or time? What do you think?

I loved that the subject of books was worked into the plot and played an important part in it. I also love fancy, fast sports cars. Add in some paranormal, a little romance and a lot of questions and mystery, I am yours.

It seemed to slow in parts, but I felt that was because she was laying a foundation for what was to come. I could anticipate some of what would be, but liked that I couldn’t see it all.

Even the paranormal episodes in the books seemed realistic. I got so caught up in it, I couldn’t put the book down. I wanted to get to the end to see what happened . I can’t help but think my heart will break when Josh s does.

I didn’t think I would want my hubby to be the type to bend so easily to my will, even though he does. But after reading this, it made me realize, they do that because they love us so much and want us to be happy. It is nice to know that someone cares that much for you and to know it would take something extraordinary to make them cheat on you or leave you. Josh’s love was so powerful, that he would stop at nothing to save her or make her happy.

The book was very well written with a great plot and characters. I got so involved in their life, that I hated to see the book end. Josh does his best to redeem himself and be worthy of Maria. Maria is so sweet and naive, that it was easy to become attached to her.

.
Were the dreams his future or just dreams? Visions? Premonitions? Read the book and let me know what you think.

I can hardly wait to read The Blake Curse.

I received this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

.

I.C. CamilleriSomething about me…well, that’s complex. Basically I’m a medical doctor living in the UK. Reading and writing have always been my passion, relieving me from the everyday stress of my medical job. My first published novel is THE BLAKE CURSE. It is a psychological thriller and a romance set in Cambridge. It pivots on three powerful characters; Ben Blake, the young and gifted British Intelligence officer embarking on his first undercover assignment; the elusive Samantha Black; and Jake Snell, the rugged Earl full of vices, the rogue who has to tease out that single thread of goodness inside his crumbling shell. He is Ben’s only lifeline in this treacherous game.

.
My second novel, THE BLAKE SOUL is different from my first in that it is more of a romance, focusing on the passion and love between two people with totally different backgrounds and interests. Here’s the synopsis to whet your appetite;

.
Josh Blake wakes up to the sound of the chilling scream echoing inside his head. His childhood nightmares are haunting him again. But why return now after all those years of oblivion? He sets out to investigate and he changes the natural course of events, rewriting destiny and creating a whole new world for himself and those around him. His past turbulent childhood mingles with the present, unveiling the deep insecurities that lurk behind his polished exterior of fame, glory and wealth.

Check out this interesting post about Patrick Jones and The Wolf’s Moon

I loved this book and wanted to share with you this Fantastic Article by Indie House Books and Patrick Jones.

Indie House Books logo

It has been one year ago today that my novel, “The Wolf’s Moon”, was launched. After a year, one might expect the memory of that day to have faded – at least a little. It has not. Everything from my first cup of coffee that morning to the cup of black tea before retiring, are still vivid in my mind.

.
Rich and Dana Burnett, who were the managers of Blazer’s Pub and Grill, encouraged me to have the book signing at that establishment. I was a mainstay at Blazers’s, taking many lunches and suppers there, so it seemed more than right. Tom Burnett, the owner, and his lovely wife, Jenit, gave their blessings as well.

.
The story takes place in the small town of Maple Hills that is situated in Crawford County, Missouri. I fashioned the mythical town after the true city of Bourbon, Missouri and yes, there is a Crawford County.

.
By that Saturday morning, I found several articles in local newspapers about myself and the event. I was starting to get excited.

.
The car was packed and ready for the three mile trek from my home to Blazer’s, by eleven. The signing was to start at noon.

.
My wife, Sandy, is my Business Manager. She was ready for whatever the day brought and far more openly excited than me.

.
Rich and Dana had the tables ready inside while I put up the banners outside. Sandy and I carried in the cases of books. I knew most book signings usually yield sales of eight to ten books. I was ready for that to be the case.

.
Before we even had the books unpacked there was a line forming. It went from there.
The event was to be from twelve noon until two, and then from four in the afternoon until six. That never worked. Once it started with the first sale before noon, Sandy and I were selling books until well after eight that evening.

.
It was a cold rainy day and I expected that fact to influence book sales. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

.
My son and his wife, Gail, along with their three small sons surprised me by showing up. They drove seventy-five miles to be there. My daughter and her husband with my oldest grandson and only granddaughter arrived minutes after my son. A woman I grew up with and had not seen since graduating High School walked in to see me. She lived further away than my daughter.

.
Blazer’s had two sides: The bar side and the restaurant side. It was standing room only and barely that.

.
The population of Bourbon is around two thousand and I felt almost all turned out. Even people that did not buy a book came in to wish me well. I was signing books while I ate.
I never had writer’s cramp in my hand but I came dangerously close that day.

.
Rex, an old Gunny Marine, sat at the bar nursing a Rum and Coke, while he read my book. Sitting next to him, reading, was the Director of the Ozark Regional Library system, Mr. John Mertens. I donated one book but before leaving, for a very long drive home, he bought two more books.

.
It would be so easy to go on, giving a blow by blow of each hour, but I won’t bore you. Sandy and I went home that night with quite a few dollars, very few books left over and memories of how satisfying a lot of hard work can be.

.
Most of all, I found out how many friends we made in a little town in The Ozarks.

How did she end up in this miserable situation?

GUEST POST

Lancaster House contains many secret passageways and hidden rooms. It’s definitely part of its charm. The house itself is a main character in the book without me intentionally writing it that way. But Lancaster House isn’t the only one keeping secrets. I couldn’t resist adding a couple of secrets of my own into the writing of this book.

First I need to explain. I vividly remember sitting in my California Lit class in high school, listening to my teacher explain the hidden meanings John Steinbeck placed in the Grapes of Wrath—the types of things that are in Cliff Notes. I was mesmerized. I was impressed. Like the preacher’s name was Jim Casy. Initials: J.C. By no mistake did Mr. Steinbeck choose those initials—he chose the name Jim Casy to mimic the initials Jesus Christ. At least this is what my teacher taught me. Did Mr. Steinbeck confirm this? I have no idea. I’ve always wondered if these types of things are made up by people who study classic literature or if the author really intended it that way! Still, the concept fascinated me. Next I learned about East of Eden. The father’s name is Adam, and his son’s names are Caleb and Aron. (Father Adam=C for Cain and A for Abel) At any rate, you get the whole initial idea thing. To a young student of literature, this was intriguing and I never forgot it. (I grew up living only an hour away from John Steinbeck’s infamous Cannery Row, hence the obsession with Steinbeck.)

With the above thoughts in mind, I set out to name my hero. Since the visual of Adam Lambert was the image that inspired my main character, I decided to stick with A.L. as the initials. Andre Lancaster. Yes, I’ll put secrets in my book just like John Steinbeck, I thought. Brilliant.

Okay, so it’s not that amazing. But it felt amazing. The kind of thing that made me smile to myself whenever I thought about it.

There is one other similarity to Adam Lambert and American Idol placed in Lancaster House.  During the American Idol season, Adam Lambert would show up on stage dressed in his casual attire, with his hair flopping over one eye, looking like an anime rocker. In the next performance he’d show up with his hair slicked back, dressed in a classy suit, singing “Tracks of my Tears.”

To view Adam’s performance of “Tracks of my Tears,” click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc2lXKuXUD8

A total transformation. I couldn’t resist having my main character do the same.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

 Thirty-six-year-old Irene Dunphy didn’t plan on dying any time soon, but that’s exactly what happens when she makes the mistake of getting behind the wheel after a night bar-hopping with friends. She finds herself stranded on earth as a ghost, where the food has no taste, the alcohol doesn’t get you drunk, and the sex…well, let’s just say “don’t bother.” To make matters worse, the only person who can see her—courtesy of a book he found in his school library—is a fourteen-year-old boy genius obsessed with the afterlife.

Unfortunately, what waits in the Great Beyond isn’t much better. Stuck between the boring life of a ghost in this world and the terrifying prospect of three-headed hell hounds, final judgment, and eternal torment in the next, Irene sets out to find a third option—preferably one that involves not being dead anymore. Can she wipe the slate clean and get a second chance before it’s too late?

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~
MY REVIEW
“Why are you staring at me?”
“Well, it’s just, because…you know. You’re…”  “Well…dead”
When she awoke in the morning, it all came back to her. She had searched the web for information about ghosts and the after life, but found nothing describing her situation.
She got in the shower and brushed her teeth. She felt, just because she was dead, that was no reason she shouldn’t take care of normal hygiene.
Suddenly, it came to her. There must be others in the same situation as hers. So she left the house in search of more answers.
When Irene waved to Mrs. Boine, she waved back. She ran up on the porch and began talking to her, only to find out she was dead too. As they talked two little girls came out asking for Grandma to push them. Mrs. Boine told Irene that they couldn’t see her, yet they knew she was there.
Irene came right out and asked Mrs. Boine what she was supposed to do? Where was she supposed to go? Mrs. Boine said she had everything she could want right where she was, so why should she go anywhere.
Irene was in Limbo, but at least now she knew she wasn’t the only ghost. She found that ghosts tended to have an aura about them. She couldn’t help but wonder – Where’s the bright light? – like in the Ghost Whisperer.
She found herself in front of a house and noticed the name Johnson.Why did that sound familiar to her? Then she remembered, the kid, Jonah could see her and his name had been Johnson. But what could a 14-year-old kid tell her? She felt she had to talk to him. She went in the house, even though he wasn’t home, and she hadn’t been invited in. It was obvious from his bedroom he was alive and well. But why could he see her? She knew he could be unseen, invisible to others, too.  Why? How?
book of spells
She left a note and hoped he would come find her. When he did, he told her he found a book with spells, about astral projection and transcendental meditation. They talked about what he had discovered from reading books. She kept asking him questions. How would she get to the afterlife? What was ahead for her?
“You’re like a two-year old, you know that,” was his response.
And so began their journey to find the answers that would help Irene move on.
Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos   4 STARS – Would Highly Recommend To Others
Pretty cover and an appropriate title.
I got some chuckles when…..Well, I can’t tell you. For the subject of death, I really like Terri Bruce’s approach to it and the afterlife and the time in between. How would you react? What would you feel like if life went on without you? Is there life after death? Funny light-hearted look at death. A lot of food for thought in this book.
Irene –  was a spoiled rotten brat. Selfish. The 14-year-old kid acted more like an adult than she did. She didn’t put her full effort into her job, even though she liked it. Definitely liked drinking and had no qualms about calling in sick, after partying all night. She felt she had done what she was supposed to do, wasn’t that enough? She had an education, a good job, family, friends and a love life. What else was there?
Jokes
“Why aren’t ghosts good at telling lies?”   ” Because you can see right through them.”
“…what kind of mistakes do ghosts make…”   “Boo-boos.”
“What kind of street does a host live on?”  “A dead-end.”
“Who does a ghost invite to his party?”   “Anyone he can dig up.”
Quotes
Cops Undead: Miami
“Today is the first day of your afterlife”
“You can’t come in. I didn’t invite you. ”That’s vampires.” “
“Here take my sock, it’s stinky, just like you”
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
The book brought to mind Charmed, Supernatural and Ghost Whisperer, three TV shows that deal with magic, death, ghosts, the supernatural, the paranormal……when Irene and Jonah talked about scrying, finding lost objects, spells…..made me think of all three shows.
Maybe ignorance is bliss. Maybe we are better off not knowing what is to come. What is life about? The infamous, why me? Regrets? Set a wrong right? Unfinished business. Who does the judging? What are the rules?
The ending wraps it up nicely and left me with a warm fuzzy feeling and a smile. All’s well that ends well, went through my mind.
She produces fantasy and adventure stories from a haunted house in New England where she lives with her husband and three cats. Her second novel, Thereafter (Afterlife #2), will be released May 1, 2014.
Blog Tour Party with Terri Bruce for Hereafter
Like the “Son”, would Charmeine sacrifice herself to save the others?
Mactus – Latin – means well done, good job, honored, good luck.
Charmeine and Tabbruis awoke to Shane barging in, demanding answers. Shane was very protective of Charmeine and he didn’t like the idea that Tabbrius could be taking advantage of her.
Tabbruis told him that he had been an orphan, like Charmeine and that he was also a vampire. Charmeine went on to tell Shane how they had found out that Tabbruis was a Blood-Hunter and she was a Light-Bearer. Tabbruis explained that they were sworn enemies, but their love was something special, their hearts beat as one, and Tabbruis could no longer see a life without her.
Shane proceeded to tell them, that he was also an orphan. He told them about a dream he had. It was the same dream that Charmeine and Tabbruis had been talking about. They had all been together. What could it mean?
Then, everything came rushing back to Charmeine. She told them what she remembered, that her and Tabbruis had been married and Shane was their child. They had been a family in Heaven. Shane was the one to voice the question – Why? Why had they forgotten? And what had happened to separate them?
Hurt, pain, and loneliness poured from them, only to replaced by love, joy and a sense of belonging.
Tabbruis’ voodoo stare told them to do as he said, when he told them to get ready to leave. They were going to Romania. Dimitri had sent Tabbruis’ “brother” to collect them.
They were attacked at the airport. The fight was brutal and to the death. No one had known, not even Shane, that he had powers, but when the Blood-Hunter took Charmeine, Shane was the one who saved her.
Tabbruis had seen a darkness surrounding Charmeine, but said nothing.
As they approached Dimitri’s castle, security kept getting tighter, more intense. It was now going to be their home too.draculas castle Pictures, Images and Photos
In Tabbruis’ dream, Charmeine was being tortured. He awoke with a start and immediately started looking for her, but she was gone. He had told her that God had made him for her and she for him. Their hearts beat in tune and their love would save them.
But, like the “Son”, would Charmeine  sacrifice herself to save the others?
4 STARS – Would Highly Recommend To Others
The cover is pretty, but does not do the story justice. It does show that Charmeine and Tabbruis are together, but it does not portray what they will have to go through to make that happen. The title is appropriate. It will take good luck for them to make it through what is to come.
Not only do the characters grow on you, the story deepens and takes you along with it. As they fight to survive, they risk it all. But Tabbruis does not want to live without Charmeine. He must convince her, not to sacrifice herself. There has to be another way.
Their friends will give up their lives to help keep them safe. How many of us can say the same? To have such loyal family and friends could be something we all strive for. Not only to have for ourselves, but to be that family member or friend that would do the same.
I marvel at Emily’s ability to, not just create the story, but to be able to describe it so vividly that I feel as if it could be real. Who is to say? Do you believe in Angels? If you do, then there must be demons also. Who knows what form they would take.
I received this book free from the author. I am not sure if she expected a review or not, but as I read through every book of the series (and I can hardly wait to start the next book) I will be doing a review for each and every one. I would like others to see, that this is a series that they will want to add to their collection of books.
Some Of My Favorite Quotes
“Yep! No exchanges or refunds. You’ve already ripped off the tag. Sorry.” – Charmeine
“Marriage is a three-ring circus: engagement ring, wedding ring  and suffering.” -Tabbruis
Notes to Reviewers and Readers:
First, the Blood-Hunter race or Elders have been on Earth for thousands of years. Because of this, they do not use contractions like I’m, don’t or can’t. They communicate in a more refined way because of their age.
Second, there are several OLD editions out in circulation of my books. Please leave a review on the current edition. Please feel free to contact me, Emily, at guido.emily@gmail.com to check the edition you have is the recent edition.
Freebie – and Heather McCorkle will tell you why.
Why Author’s Make eBooks Free
From Heather McCorkle’s mouth to your eyes.
You’ve probably noticed independent authors setting the price on at least one of their books as free from time to time. And if you’re traditionally published, or not yet published, you may wonder why in the world they would do such a thing. An indie author friend of mine recently discussed using Kindle Select with me and she couldn’t understand why someone would set their book to free. It’s contradictory, she said. And she’s right, in a way. However, there is a method to this madness.
When you download a book from Amazon, B&N or any other online retailer~regardless of whether or not it’s free or costs money~that novel goes  up in the sales ranks. With each download, it goes farther up the ranks with the optimum rise occurring when there are many sales in one day (the entire system starts over day by day so if a book sells one a day for a month it won’t rise in the ranks nearly as high as it would if it sold thirty in one day of that month. VERY important key to remember!). Sales ranks are what determines the order that a book shows up in searches. Let’s say you’re looking for a YA fantasy novel. On Amazon’s book page you click on Teens. Everything that shows up on the next page, and any more specific pages you click on (sub-genres and such) is determined by sales rank. The books that are on the main pages (getting there with the best sales ranks) get noticed and sell even more.
.
For each download of a free book, that book goes up in ranks too, getting it farther up the lists and onto the main pages where it will get noticed. When this happens people see not only the free book and are more likely to download it (helping raise it’s rank and supporting the whole process) but they also notice an author’s name and are more likely to check out there other books. That’s one way a free book can get an author more sales. Another is, of course, if the readers enjoyed the book and come back to buy the author’s other titles. So, crazy as it sounds, now you know there is a method to the madness.
.
.
That said, all this week for Valentine’s Day week (and to help it’s sales ranking 😉 the eBook of  The Secret of Spruce Knoll is free on Amazon! I hope you’ll download it and
spread the word. And a huge thank you to each of you that does. 🙂
