Giveaway – Dating the It Guy by Krysten Lindsay Hager @KrystenLindsay @KathyHabel

Dating the It Guy by Krysten Lindsay Hager

Emme is a sophomore in high school who starts dating, Brendon Agretti, the popular senior who happens to be a senator’s son and well-known for his good looks. Emme feels out of her comfort zone in Brendon’s world and it doesn’t help that his picture perfect ex, Lauren seems determined to get back into his life along with every other girl who wants to be the future Mrs. Agretti. Emme is already conflicted due to the fact her last boyfriend cheated on her and her whole world is off kilter with her family issues. Life suddenly seems easier keeping Brendon away and relying on her crystals and horoscopes to guide her. Emme soon starts to realize she needs to focus less on the stars and more on her senses. Can Emme get over her insecurities and make her relationship work? Life sure is complicated when you’re dating the it guy.

Excerpt

“By the way, did you hear Lauren got into Senator Agretti’s old school?”

“Seriously? I wonder if she applied there because Brendon did,” I said.

Margaux snorted. “Duh, of course. Seriously, she might as well just pee on him to mark her territory.”

“Margaux, shut up,” Kylie said.

“Whatever. Anyway, the important thing is if Brendon knew she was applying there,” Margaux said. “Em, do you think he knew?”

I hoped Lauren was just trying to follow Brendon, but what if they had planned this whole thing while they were dating? What if he convinced her to apply there so they could go to college together, wear matching American flag sweaters with big scarves while drinking hot chocolate, and jump into leaf piles just like a preppy clothing catalog. At least now I didn’t have to worry about them reciting poetry to one another in South Bend, but still, what if they had made plans to go to school together?

“Don’t worry about it,” Kylie said. “She was probably trying to follow him—like she always does. She’s so pathetic.”

Kylie was trying to make me feel better, but Lauren was far from pathetic. After all, she was pretty much the “Most Likely to Succeed” poster girl. While she was out overachieving and saving the world without messing up her perfect, bouncy hair, I was trying to get through each day. I tried to push away the image of Lauren and Brendon holding hands and drinking hot chocolate under a stadium blanket.

Review – Protector by Becca Campbell @beccajcampbell

Becca Campbell is a wonderful writer and I am happy to share my next novel of her Flawed Series, Protector.

I love to get lost in the paranormal and supernatural, especially when it’s filled with mystery and suspense.

Protector (Flawed, #3)

Amazon  /  Goodreads

MY REVIEW

This is the third book of the Flawed Series and they do need to be read in order to follow the gang as they mature and learn more about their powers, dodging the evil and danger dogging them.

A kidnapping…The investigation has stalled, so it looks like it’s up to the kids. They have a lead and they’re off and running. The kids each have an ability they strive to keep hidden from the world and they will need them.

Jade’s sense of her destiny will have repercussions she never could have imagined. She is an empath, and wants to help her boyfriend, Logan. She has gotten him, to lower his guard and now his emotions are leaking out all over the place.

Kelsey had been hiding until she was forced to surface because of her need to give back, her love of the people she helps. Their need is more important than her own.

Jade will also make a couple of new friends, Kelsey and Hugh, and I would love to know more of their story, especially Hugh, a fragile soul who overcomes his terrors to act. What and why are his demons? And Ethan?

I loved being back with familiar characters and watching how they have changed from when I first met them. It took me a few minutes to refresh my memory of where the story left off. The gang have matured, grown stronger in their need to give and share with others.

I was swept up in the mystery and thrills of the danger, looking forward to finding out what comes next. I fear it may not end well.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Protector by Becca Campbell.

Giveaway – Flood by Elaine Cantrell @ElaineCantrell @GoddessFish

I love a good romantic suspense novel, so sharing Flood by Elaine Cantrell was a no brainer. Hope you enjoy the post

Flood by Elaine Cantrell

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Contemporary Romantic Suspense
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB

Drawn together by their love of animals, Aria DeLuca and Caleb Hawkins burn for each other. They never suspected that malignant forces were successfully plotting Caleb’s ruin from the moment he entered her life.

When the flood of a century strikes Aria’s hometown, an alienated Caleb is all that stands between her and catastrophic loss.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
“Aria.”
The soft tone in his voice when he said her name took her breath away. She tried to speak, to ask him what he wanted, but words wouldn’t come.
His big hand cupped her face and sent white heat racing through her veins. “You are without doubt the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.” He pushed a few remaining strands of wet hair from her cheek. She stepped closer, and he swept her into his arms and laid her head against his shoulder.
The doctor in Aria wondered if her blood pressure was dangerously high. It must be. Her heart was going like a jackhammer, and her knees felt spongy. She held on tight to Caleb as the scent of sun-warmed masculine skin surrounded her.
Her tee shirt was wet, but where he was touching her back his hand felt red hot against her. She groaned, and he lifted her head from his shoulder. His eyes, filled with heat, locked with hers before fluttering shut. Firm, kissable lips met hers in a sweet, tender kiss that soon morphed into something else entirely.
Goodreads / Amazon
CHAPTER ONE:
I grab a beer out of the mini fridge while I wait to see if Danielle is coming up or not. I pop the cap off against the counter in my hotel room and then bring the cold liquid to my lips as I stare at the door.
I met Danielle three weeks ago. It was a lucky happenstance really. Well, lucky for me, not so lucky for her. I met her like I meet most of my targets—in a bar. She was with her fiancé, minding her own business, just having a drink at the bar, when he was called away for work. That was when I stepped in and gave her the attention that she was so desperate for.
That’s all it took. One night of being nice to her, and I knew I could steal her from her fiancé. I knew it wouldn’t take long. I probably could have had her that night if I really wanted. But that’s not my game. Cheating isn’t enough. Many a men take back fiancées or wives who have cheated on them. No, I don’t entice the women so that they will cheat on their husbands. I hit on the women to steal them and make them mine—at least, until I get bored with them.
I’m not looking for anything long-term. I’ve never dated a woman for longer than a few weeks after claiming her as mine. Others, I get bored with much faster. I’m not really after the women. I’m after the chase that comes with stealing them away, and that satisfies the rush I used to get when I stole objects instead of people.
I don’t know which makes me a worse person. Stealing things like cars, money, or jewelry. Or stealing women and their hearts. But, this way, at least I don’t have to worry about going to jail.
I sit on the edge of the bed as I take another sip of my beer. I thought tonight was the night I would claim her. I thought tonight was the night I would steal her away. But, as every second passes, I become less sure of myself.
Maybe Danielle loves her fiancé, Wade, more than I thought she did.
I hear a soft knock on my door. Once, twice, and then a pause before the third knock. I grin before I down the rest of my beer and toss it into the trash can as I walk to the door. I open it and widen my eyes when I see Danielle standing outside my door, like I’m surprised that she is standing here even though I’m not the least bit surprised.
“What are you doing here, Danielle? Shouldn’t you be in bed, dreaming about that fiancé you are going to marry tomorrow?” I ask.
I haven’t stolen her yet. Not fully. I don’t win until she’s broken up with him, and I’ve had her in my bed.
Danielle wraps her arms across her chest, covering her cleavage that was sticking out from beneath her sparkly white dress that she wore to the rehearsal tonight.
I didn’t have to do much to get Danielle here. At least, not tonight. All I did was show up at the rehearsal. I made an appearance in the background, and it was enough to convince Danielle that she might be making a huge mistake.
“I’m not getting married tomorrow,” Danielle says.
“Oh,” I say, my voice dripping with sadness that isn’t the least bit real. “Would you like to come in?”
She nods, and I hold the door open for her. She walks over to the edge of my bed and sits down. I walk over to the mini fridge and pull two beers out. I open the caps on both and then hand one to her. She takes it, loosely holding it in her hand. She stares at it for a while, not able to look at me.
I keep my distance until she is ready to talk. Leaning against the counter next to the mini fridge, I sip on my beer.
“I broke up with Wade tonight,” Danielle finally says.
“I gathered that. Why though?”
She looks up at me with puppy-dog eyes. “Because I don’t love Wade anymore. I love you.”
I look at her seriously and say, “I want you.”
She hears I love you though. It’s clear from the goofy smile and blushed cheeks.
But that’s the one thing I won’t ever do. I won’t lie to these women. I can’t help it if they hear what they want to hear.
I put my beer down and walk over to her until I’m standing between her legs. I take the beer out of her hand and place it on the counter. Her eyes follow me.
I push her back on the bed, and then I take the off the T-shirt I’m wearing… She bites her lip as she stares at my abs that have formed from surfing every day.
“Tell me you want me to fuck you,” I say.
Danielle sits up and unzips the back of her dress, letting it fall to her waist, revealing her white lacy bra that holds her perky breasts in, away from me.
“Fuck me, Asher.”
I grin as I grab ahold of her dress and roughly pull it off her body. She lets out a gasp.
She grabs at my neck, trying to pull me in so that she can kiss me. I let her pull me into her. I let her kiss me, and then I turn the kiss into rough kisses that show her what I really want.
“You like it rough,” she says.
“Don’t you?” I ask.
“I like anything with you.”
I flip her over on the bed, and she lets out another surprised gasp.
I slap her ass. “I’m going to fuck this later, but first, I have to claim your pussy.”
“God, just fuck me already. I can’t wait,” she cries into the pillow that she is now face down on.
I sigh. “They never have patience,” I mutter to myself, annoyed that I can’t take my time to properly enjoy her body.
“What?” she asks.
“Nothing,” I say, hitting her hard on the ass, causing her to cry out.
I shove my shorts and briefs down and pull out a condom from the nightstand. I quickly slip it on before she finds a way to get herself off without me.
“Ready?” I ask, pulling her panties down and positioning myself at her entrance.
“Just fuck me already.”
I do. I push inside her tight pussy that I know is anything but ready for me. I’ve barely spent any time turning her on, but if this is what she wants, I won’t object.
She moans loudly and then quickly starts screaming, “Yes…yes,” over and over.
I keep thrusting until I come, not concerned at all if she comes or not. I’m an asshole after all. Although most have called me worse than that.
She must have come because she screams loudly, followed by nothing.
I pull out of her and go to the bathroom to clean myself off. When I’m done, I stay in the bathroom with my hands clenching either side of the sink as I look at myself in the mirror. I can’t handle this woman much longer. It was hard enough to pretend to like her to get her to want me, but now that I’ve had her once, I don’t think I can keep up the act to fuck her more than that. I’m ready for the implosion to happen.
I walk back out and dig through my suitcase to find a fresh pair of briefs to put on. After I do, I glance over at Danielle, who is now under the covers of the bed. Her cheeks are flushed, her brown eyes heavy, and her long brown hair is a mess on top of her head.
“That was amazing,” she says.
I nod and force my lips to curl up into something that resembles a smile.
“I’m ready to go again if you are. Or if you want to sleep some first…”
I take a deep breath, ready to tell her that I’m through with her, that she can’t stay here, when I hear a loud pounding at my door.
I hold up a finger and then walk to the door in just my briefs, not caring who is on the other side. I throw the door open, and before I can register who is standing there, a fist flies at my face and hits me square in the nose. My body jolts backward with the hit, and I put my hands up to my nose as another hit rains down on my face, followed by another. My nose is pouring blood now, and I’m sure it’s broken. My eyesight is blurry, but I think I make Wade out through the haze. Or, at least, my prior experiences with ex-fiancés verify that he is most likely on the other end of the fist that keeps coming at my face.
“Wade, stop!” Danielle screams, running to my aide.
I hear Wade breathing heavily.
“I’m done. I’m done with both of you. You’re a rotten scumbag who deserves to be locked up in prison. And you’re a lying, cheating slut. I’m done with both of you.”
The blurriness finally leaves my eyes long enough for me to see Wade stumbling out of my room, clearly drunk. It’s a wonder he was even able to aim for my face. The door slams shut, and then I see Danielle standing naked in front of me.
“I’m sorry about Wade. He’s just upset that I broke off the wedding, that I no longer love him. He’ll get over it.”
I walk into the bathroom without saying a word and see that I was right about my nose. It’s most definitely broken as blood pours down my face. I grab one of the towels and hold it up to my nose to try and stop the bleeding, but I know it is going to take a while to stop.
“Here,” Danielle says, holding up a bag of ice.
I take the bag from her and hold it up to my face.
“It stings,” I say, wanting to pull it away from my face.
She laughs. “It will help with the swelling and stop the bleeding.”
I keep it on my face and walk back to the bedroom. Danielle follows me.
“I think you should go,” I say.
“What? Why?”
“I don’t want to worry about Wade coming back and beating me up.”
“He won’t.”
“And I don’t think you and I are going to work out. You’re not worth my trouble.”
Danielle’s jaw drops. “I broke up with Wade for you though. I called off my wedding tomorrow for you. I want to be with you. I’ll do whatever it takes.”
“You made a mistake then. You should have stayed with Wade, or you should find someone else. I’m not the man for you, Danielle.”
“He’s not going to take me back now,” she says, her voice shaking.
I smirk. “No, I don’t think he will take you back.”
“You fucking bastard! You asshole!” Danielle shouts, raising her hand to no doubt slap or punch me.
At least, this time, I’m ready for the attack. I grab her wrist midair, stopping her from hitting me.
“You are an evil, vile person,” she says through tears.
I nod. “I am.”
She jerks her hand out of my grasp. “Why would you do this?”
I open my mouth to speak, and she holds a hand up to stop me.
“Never mind. I don’t want to know. I don’t want to spend another second listening to this crap.” She grabs her crumpled dress from the floor and quickly puts it back on, not bothering with her underwear. She cries the whole time.
Occasionally, the women recover after this. They are able to convince their fiancés to take them back. But I don’t think Danielle will. And I’m not sure she is strong enough to fully recover from it either.
She hesitates a second, like she is trying to decide if she should say anything or if I’m going to. When I don’t, she storms out the door without another word.
I take a deep breath as I go over to the bed and lie down, ensuring the ice pack is still on my face.
Shit, I curse to myself when the ice stings my face again.
If I’m going to keep this up, I need to be better prepared. I can’t keep getting hit like this. Next time, I might get a concussion, and then I won’t be able to surf. I won’t let that happen. Next time, I’ll be ready for a hit.
Maybe I should take some boxing classes or something.
I grin. Despite the pain I’m feeling now, I’ll sleep like a baby for the first time in weeks. I stole her heart and then tore it to pieces. It feels good.
Giveaway & Review – Seeds of Eden by A P Watson @apwatsonauthor @XpressoReads
Seeds of Eden by A P Watts has an awesome cover, which made the book jump out at me. I have seen other covers by this designer and she does a fabulous job.
MY REVIEW
I will admit I love YA stories, even though sometimes they can fall a little flat in the excitement department. Seeds of Eden by A P Watson is one of those stories, but the opening pages did grab me and make me want to know Evey’s story. I wanted to know what’s going on, what will happen next.
I love storylines like Seeds of Eden. Time travel? Reincarnation?
Evey’s light in the darkness. More than a symbol of love and hope.
Evey is a regular teenage girl in her senior year, with all the normal hopes and desires. She loves history and I wonder…
I love her best friend, Caroline, especially when she says things like…
“It’s like I always say, we’re best friends because we hate all the same people.”
Seeds of Eden is a romance, a love story that is eternal…Infinite.
It is YA all the way. I would have liked more depth…Her feelings for her situation, realizing who she really is and the fact that someone would die to protect her were glossed over. I wanted more details.
I liked the story, but it is repetitious and drags sometimes. I kept waiting for something to happen, instead of just hem hawing her way through the relationship with Conrad. Yes, no, yes, no…
Seeds of Eden does not stand alone and I do want to read the rest of their story. I want to see how everything pans out for them in this trilogy and for that reason I do recommend the series.
Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos 3 Stars
Haunted by visions of the execution of an innocent man, Evey discovers that the secrets of her past and a mysterious stranger are irrevocably intertwined.
Visions of decapitated corpses, pools of blood, and a masked executioner have haunted Evey for as long as she can remember. Torn between a life in the waking world and dreams of the dead, she realizes her normal existence is nothing more than an illusion. As the veil between reality and her subconscious dissipates, she begins to question her own sanity. Each night as she closes her eyes, she wonders what wrongs she committed to warrant such a curse.
When a handsome stranger suddenly appears in Evey’s life, he is able to provide her with the answers she seeks. However, the only thing more mystifying than Conrad’s appearance in one of her nightmares is the undeniable attraction she feels for him. It is only when he confesses their fates and souls have been intertwined for centuries that an ancient secret is revealed. Now, the two of them must outrun a great darkness or it will claim their lives again.
How do you tell someone who hates you and blames you for the death of his best friend that you miss him?
From the bestselling teen and young adult author of Cinder & Ella comes a new heart-wrenching romance sure to bring all the feels.
The tragic death of Spencer Schott unravels the lives of the two people he loved most—his girlfriend, Bailey, and his best friend, Wes. Secrets and guilt from that fateful night keep both Bailey and Wes from overcoming Spencer’s loss and moving on with their lives.
Now, nearly a year later, both Bailey and Wes are still so broken over what happened that Spencer can’t find peace in the afterlife. In order to put his soul to rest, he’s given one chance to come back and set things right…even if that means setting up his girlfriend with his best friend.
With the emotional resonance of Jellicoe Road and the magical realism of The Lovely Bones, The Ghost of You and Me is a story about overcoming grief, finding redemption for past mistakes, and the healing power of friendship and love. SNEAK PREVIEW:
I surveyed the surroundings. If I escaped into the woods, Lucas would find me. The shifter’s nose had to be as good as my wolves’. That was why Ares had brought him along. I wondered what his animal was. Judging from his size, he could be a white lion or a bear.
If I escaped to the plains, the guardians would spot me. They weren’t in league with me yet. If Ares caught me running away, he would chain me for the rest of the trip.
“Why are we stopping here, Ares?” the horned Dragonian asked.
“Freyja needs a bath,” Ares said with irritation.
“The wolf girl?” the horned one asked. “And you let her have her way? We need to be on our way. We’ve wasted enough time just tracking her.”
Ares snarled. “I’ll decide what we need or don’t need.”
The others gathered around in the clearing, sitting on the rocks. Some of them took off their boots with satisfied groans.
That was exactly what I’d planned for them to do—to get in the water with me. Over four months on the road, rushing from one place to another to look for me, they had to be desperate for the feel of a warm woman. When they saw me naked, their needs would be raging. And when they came for me, they’d get what they deserved.
I would soon be reunited with my pack.
I removed my gloves, kicked off my boots, and dropped my cloak. I breathed in the fresh, damp air. The lake smelled different from the hot spring in my forest, but its earthy scent blending with the sweet honeysuckle was equally pleasant.
What would come next might not be as pleasant, but I had to gain back my freedom.
Within seconds, I was clad in only my undergarments. My skin prickled with exhilaration as it met the clean air.
Ares cleared his throat to remind me of my modesty. If he was so concerned about my decency, why wasn’t he turning around as well?
His men stopped what they were doing and stared at me.
I slowly pulled the last of my garments over my head and lazily stretched my limbs. My bountiful breasts and perky, red nipples were generous for every eye to see and appreciate.
As I twisted my torso for another long stretch and bent down, I saw the men’s jaws drop in shock. Yet none of them moved their heated gaze from me.
I straightened and turned away from them, my fingers on the top lines of my panties, ready to pull it off my long, toned legs.
“Freyja!” Ares shouted.
I wheeled toward him. “What?” I asked innocently.
“Turn around!” he roared at his men. “Don’t fucking look at her if you want your fucking eyes stay in their sockets!”
Of course, they wanted their eyes staying in their sockets. The men obeyed, though slowly.
Wonderful! Ares—the prude—had just sabotaged my perfect plan.
But he wasn’t that prudent since he himself hadn’t turned around. His gaze, heated, dark, and furious, locked with mine. I tilted my head in challenge. What’s the harm in having a look? You’re looking.
His gaze dipped lower to my breasts, then lower—I’d pulled my panties half an inch down. When he tore his eyes from my body and stayed on my face by sheer will, a sudden fire of possessiveness leapt in them, turning his irises deeply molten gold.
“Stop what you’re doing,” he said, his voice hoarse as if he hadn’t spoken for a while.
“Why?” I asked.
“Shouldn’t you cover yourself?” He seemed incredulous at my innocent question.
“But I’m going to have a bath,” I said. “Who bathes with their clothes on?”
“There are men around!” he said. “You can’t go traipsing around naked in the wilderness.”
“Why do you think I even consider any of them, or you,” I asked, “a man? Haven’t you seen a naked woman before? I’m sure your men need to wash themselves, too. Their smell, yours included, nearly choked me half to death from a mile away.”
Actually he smelled really good.
I heard someone chuckle. Ares growled nastily and the chuckles died off immediately.
“It’s a big lake,” I said with a small shrug. “There’s plenty of room for all of us.”
“Like hell I’ll let them share the lake with you naked,” he said. “There’re social rules.”
“But you just said we’re in the wilderness,” I said, putting confusion into my voice. “Who’s going to govern the rules?”
“I am,” he said. Then he yelled at the men. “Go patrol the perimeter and don’t look this way.”
The men picked up their weapons and slowly scattered.
“Are you sending them away so you can get into the lake with me alone?” I asked.
“No, I’m not getting in the lake with you,” he said. “But I’ll watch you. If you think you’re clever enough to pull this stunt and slip away, think twice. So far, I’ve been courteous. But if you keep causing trouble, you’ll force my hand. Then I’ll have to get rough with you and tie you up and drag you behind me. I don’t care that Ventus has taken a liking to you. Just remember, his fealty is always to me.”
I pulled my panties off and tossed it on top of the pile of my clothes. Dark fire leapt in his eyes and his gaze drifted down toward the valley between my thighs. He wanted me. He wanted me badly. He looked like he was ready to stalk toward me.
Did I really want him to die? My body tensed at the thought.
Ares inhaled sharply, his knuckles turning white on his sides, but he didn’t move toward me.
“Earth,” I said, walking toward the lake. “All this drama over a bath.”
“By undressing yourself like that in front of my men,” he spat, “you put yourself in danger and them in a tough spot. If any of them loses control and touches you, I would have to punish them severely.”
“What about you?” I asked over my shoulder, my bare feet hitting the cool water.
“I have enough self-control,” he snarled.
“Right, I’ve learned it the hard way,” I said, intentionally dipping my gaze down at the bulge at his groin covered by his sculpted armor.
His eyes glittered with amber fire. “You’re now my responsibility, Freyja,” he said. “I have to guarantee that you’re well treated and unharmed until the day you’re allowed to go your way.”
“I’m so touched,” I said.
Obviously, he didn’t like my tone since he was probably expecting my gratitude. His next words were full of acid. “You have no problem getting completely naked but flustered at my hard-on,” he asked. “Why is that?”
“You go figure it out.” I brushed him off, knowing that would irk him more.
When I sent him one last glance filled with disdain, I caught such ravenous hunger in his eyes that the heat pooled within my belly again.
EXCERPT
After another dream about the man on the bridge, I am jolted awake covered in sweat. I sit myself up in the bed to check my arms for any signs of an attack. The dream felt so real. And the dreams are always the same. It is the same man dressed in black, me running to the bridge, the man catching me and me feeling the most horrible pain in my life, yet I don’t even know what causes the pain. I still had pain in my chest from running in the cold. My legs even felt tired from the running. After realizing it was just a dream I pulled myself from the comfort of my bed and headed straight for the shower.
         After my shower, I quickly got dressed and headed out the door, running a little late for school. Parker was standing next to my car when I stepped out into the drive way. “Hope you don’t mind but I got Bristol to drop me off so I could ride to school with you.”
         “No, it’s fine. You could have come inside and waited for me. You didn’t have to wait out here.”
         “I don’t mind. I actually like to be outside.”
         When we got in the car I turned the music up a little louder than normal. I didn’t want to leave room for Parker to start a conversation. I wasn’t feeling real sociable this morning. As the music played I noticed Parker playing drums on my dash with two pencils. Trying to ignore him I noticed he stopped playing drums and was now playing air guitar.
         I looked over and stared at him. Him sensing my staring he looked back at me. Our eyes locked for a moment until I had to look back at the road. I suddenly became nervous and the palms of my hands became sweaty. What was wrong with me? I couldn’t have feelings for Parker when I was in love another guy who I recently was head over heels for. I could tell the feelings I felt for Parker were getting stronger although muffled and my feelings for Odin were becoming suppressed as well. It felt like someone took my feelings for both guys and put them in a bottle but the cap was trying to bust open against the pressure. I wiped my hands on my jeans then turned the music up a little louder to try and ignore the mess of feelings I had swimming around inside of me.
