Mortal Musings by Aria Glazki

I am currently 27% into Mortal Musings by Aria Glazki. I was intrigued by the premise, a writer and his muse.

I love the “sweetness” of the cover. I feel as if she is waiting for just the right moment to reach out to him. And when she does…

TEASER

All he saw was Alexandra, weaving through flowers that reached to her as though ready to whisper all their secrets. Not exactly right for a mystery novel..

(27% on Kindle)
SYNOPSIS
.

Muse Alexandra has had it with the arrogant, ungrateful humans she is obligated to inspire. When the internal ranting of her latest charge pushes her past reason, she disregards the rules and forces her own words through his fingers, and is instantly entrapped in mortal form. With no magic, no identity, and no resources, Allie has no alternative but to navigate the mortal realm, depending entirely on her reluctant host while discerning what exactly caused her transformation — and how to reverse it.

Brett doesn’t have a chance to consider the words that mysteriously showed up on his screen; he’s too distracted by the stunning woman who appeared in his office out of nowhere. Before his brain can catch up, Brett’s uninvited guest becomes enmeshed in his everyday life. Her artless innocence gradually lessens his suspicions. Most importantly, the writer’s block that’s been plaguing him dissolves under the fantasies the naively beguiling Alexandra inspires.

All too soon, the forced proximity sparks a confounding awareness neither writer nor muse are able to resist.

Dinosaur Lake II by Kathryn Meyer Griffith

Hop in your shuttle car and let’s check out the park. You will not be disappointed.

Dinosaur Lake I is an 2014 Epics Award Finalist in the Suspense/Thriller category. Check out my review:

Creature Dines on Crater Lake Smorgasboard

SYNOPSIS

Henry Shore has been Chief Park Ranger at Crater Lake National Park for thirteen years now and thought the days when he’d had to fight a rogue dinosaur that lived in the caves below the lake were long over.

Until one of his park rangers, to save a visitor’s life, is in a deadly struggle out in the woods with a new breed of dinosaur worse than the last one. It’s as big as a man, but this one is a young one. And growing.

Then more of the creatures begin to show up everywhere, threatening people and destroying the tranquility and safety of his beloved park.
A tourist trolley filled with fifteen people is snatched up off the crater’s rim by another version of the younger one…but this one has grown into a giant with fangs, claws and a deadly tail.

And this one has wings.

Ugly Gargoyles, Henry calls them.

For this one isn’t alone.

They’re flying beyond the park’s boundaries into the neighboring towns.

So Henry, with the help of his son-in-law, a paleontologist named Justin, and a band of brave park rangers, and a few good soldiers, must not only protect his park and his people from monsters once more but find their lair and destroy it and them before the creatures kill again.

Dinosaur Lake II: Dinosaurs Arising

Kathryn Meyer Griffith , Dawne Dominque

MY REVIEW

An awesome and amazing cover to go along with an awesome and amazing book. I love monster books and movies. Not much can beat  Godzilla, Sharktopus, Anaconda, Jaws, Jurassic Park……on a weekend afternoon. I would love to see the Dinosaur Lake movies!!! Any producers out there?

I have been anxiously waiting for Dinosaur Lake II and now that I know there is a Dinosaur Lake III, I am even more excited. I love critter books and a dinosaur roaming around Crater Lake is not to be missed. You can read this without reading Book I, but I still recommend reading it.

Five years earlier, Park Ranger Henry Shore had dealt with a prehistoric, man-eating dinosaur. It couldn’t be happening again, could it? He thought they had killed them all.

In Dinosaur Lake I, the prehistoric beasts were in the water. Now, they are flying.

Henry is such a good guy. He reminds me of Harrison Ford. He has that bumbling, innocent and naive air about him, yet he steps up to the plate, doing what needs to be done.

His wife, Ann, has more problems than a dinosaur to worry about. She owns the newspaper, so that helps keep her going, even when she feels her worst.

Ranger Elle Stanton is back, in a big way. Elle reminded Henry of his friend, George. She has a superstitious nature. She is a retired soldier and was drawn to Crater Lake. She is no wimp, so when Henry senses her fear, he listens. I would definitely like to know her story.

George, an Indian friend had lost his life when he came to Ann’s rescue, but Henry remembered something he said – if the winter is mild, like this year’s had been, there would be a reckoning. Could nature be rebelling because of something we did? Some kind of payback?

Justin, his daughter’s husband, works for the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.

The characters will win you over. You will feel their pain, fear, terror, shock and awe. Their hearts are big and their bravery even bigger.

These are prehistoric critters shrouded in mysticism. I have met THE dinosaur and I know his death cannot be the end of it. I am excited. What will the next one look like? Will there be only one? Will it crawl, slither, walk, swim or fly? What if they are intelligent, able to think and respond accordingly? I wanted to know and I raced through the pages to find out.

Thank goodness I don’t’ have to wait and see if they got them all. Dinosaur III is out and I can only wonder where Kathryn is taking this. Could it get any worse? I am about to find out and I will tell you all about it. I think the cover with give us a hint.

I received this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos5 Stars – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

SYNOPSIS

.

Chief Park Ranger Henry Shore has dealt with and fought real live dinosaurs at his beloved Crater Lake National Park for over six years. With the help of his rangers, a few brave FBI friends and army soldiers he’d been victorious over a prehistoric lake creature and years later some particularly fiendish, and clever, specimens of the flying variety. He and his newspaper publisher wife, Ann, thought their park was finally rid of the monsters and they could reclaim their tranquil life in a place they cherished. Not so. For suddenly across the park new and even more malevolent mutant species of dinosaur begin to appear and create havoc, attacking the park’s visitors and threatening its peace. And this time the primeval scourge isn’t confined to just their park. The creatures have moved into the nearby towns, across the western United States and up into Canada. They are so much more aggressive, smarter and hungrier than any that have come before and the infestation is spreading further and faster than Henry and Ann can even imagine. This time there’s no easy way to defeat the dinosaurs. There’s too many of them and they’re too devious. This time it’s full out war and the victor will someday claim Earth.

The Mob, Drugs and Murder – A Bullet For Carlos by Giacomo Giammatteo Review

I love everything about his book, from the cover to the last page.

Thrills and mystery start from the beginning and continue throughout A Bullet For Carlos by Giacomo Giammatteo.

The cover is only an introduction for what is to come.

So, put on your bullet proof vest, you may need it.

 photo goodreads-badge-add-38px11_zps1ae6e47f.jpg

My Uncle Dominic is a mobster, me a drug busting cop. I cringe every time a bust comes up, hoping it won’t be him I’m arresting.

Even a killer has a heart.

“Family is family regardless of what side of the law you are on. Family is everything.”

Dominc, Zeppe, and Maria are the only three who know my story, even I don’t. I keep my relationship with them as low key as possible. In the drug business, It is hard to tell who is friend or foe and I was going to find out just how important family can be.

After a drug bust gone bad, both my partners dead, I was transferred from narcotics to homicide.

I had A Bullet For Carlos – aka El Jabato (the wild boar), a drug kingpin. I knew he was responsible.

~~~~~~
MY REVIEW
Giacomo Giammatteo has more than one storyline going to keep you on your toes and it worked for me. I traveled from New York to Texas with Connie on her quest to solve a cold murder case and to find Carlos and bring him to justice. I am watching a Criminal Minds episode that has a similar murder plot, very cool.
With Connie being under investigation by Internal Affairs because of a drug bust gone bad, the murder of a couple cops and missing drugs, she must find the answers herself. It doesn’t help that her Uncle Dominic is in the mob.
When all the clues fall into place for me, I was a little disappointed that they didn’t for Connie. I felt she would have known and I kept waiting for her to say AHA. But it all works out in the end.
I love dogs and am always happy when they are part of the novel. Characters seem easier to relate to and become more real. They win me over when they love them too.
“Some people believe that God doesn’t let dogs in heaven, but Tip knew differently. God wouldn’t make something so loving and  so perfect only to abandon them at the end.”
I love this quote.
To sum it up, I love mysteries and thrillers and this is one I would highly recommend. Give me some mob guys, some drugs and a little murder and I am in heaven. The twists and turns kept me on my toes as I tried to figure out what would happen next.
I  won this signed, first edition paperback in a giveaway from Giacomo Giammatteo.
Thanks so much, Giacomo. I look forward to reading more of your work.
Amazon Book Description
The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis. ~ Dante Alighieri
A Thriller about Murder, Mystery, and Family.
Even good people are haunted by nightmares. Some are kept awake by things they did in the past: Lies they told, people they cheated, laws they broke.
The ones who lived the worst lives are haunted by more than lies or broken laws. Their sleep is stolen by the people they killed.
Nicky Fusco isn’t like any of them. He’s not bothered by lies, or broken laws. Not even by the people he’s killed.
Nicky is kept awake by the people he hasn’t killed yet.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Giacomo GiammatteoI live in Texas now, but I grew up in Cleland Heights, a mixed ethnic neighborhood in Wilmington, Delaware that sat on the fringes of the Italian, Irish and Polish neighborhoods. The main characters of Murder Takes Time grew up in Cleland Heights too, and many of the scenes in the book were taken from real-life experiences.
Somehow I survived the transition to adulthood, but when my kids were young I left the Northeast and settled in Texas, where my wife suggested we get a few animals. I should have known better; we now have a full-blown animal sanctuary with rescues from all over.
At last count we had 41 animals—12 dogs, a horse, a three-legged cat and 26 pigs.
Oh, and one crazy—and very large—wild boar, who takes walks with me every day and happens to also be my best buddy.
Since this is a bio some of you might wonder what I do. By day I am a headhunter, scouring the country for top talent to fill jobs in the biotech and medical device industry. In the evening I help my wife tend the animals, and at night—late at night—I turn into a writer.
Monday Mini Review -The Modified by C A Kunz
The Modified (the Biotics Trilogy, #1)  Earth is in a war with aliens – the Bringers – and they are losing. To change that, the Magnus Project was created. Kenley and Joey were chosen. Kenley’s father explained it to them this way, “Super soldiers. Basically, you’ll receive a series of implants that I’ve developed which will modify your biological composition leaving you with enhanced abilities. You’ll be changed forever.” Can you imagine your own father asking you to do such a thing? A small band of Magnus Academy trainees will help Kenley lead the fight. She will also have her faithful companion, an android named Galileo, that will stop at nothing to protect her. I feel there is something very special about him and am curious to find out if I am right. Kenley has an attraction to the war hero, Landon Shaw, but feels now is not the time to be starting a romance. I enjoyed The Modified. It lays the groundwork for the trilogy and I feel it will really take off in Book II.  I am looking forward to traveling the galaxy with Kenley’s band of soldiers as they strive to save Earth from those determined to destroy it.
She Did It Her Way – Review for Blueberry Hill by Bette Lee Crosby
BBH_on_sale_1
Blueberry Hill was Donna’s favorite song.
I hope you enjoy Fats Domino singing Blueberry Hill as you discover Bette Lee Crosby’s new novel, Blueberry Hill, A Sister’s Story.
I have read all of Bette Lee Crosby’s fantastic novels. They are filled with southern charm and characters that sound so familiar, you feel as if you know them.
Blueberry Hill, a Sister's Story
1771e-addtogoodreadsblack
SYNOPSIS
CAN LOVE SAVE A SISTER FROM SELF-DESTRUCTION?
From the USA Today Bestselling Author of Spare Change comes the heartwarming story Blueberry Hill, a Sister’s Story.
Based on the realities of her own family, Crosby calls this a memoir of sorts. Traveling back to a time when the sisters were young enough to feel invincible and foolish enough to believe it would last forever, Crosby has bared her soul in a story of regrettable decisions and inevitable outcomes.
MY REVIEW
Cover – Valentine Design
The covers Bette Lee Crosby chooses for her novels always make me wonder what will be between the pages. I feel there will be some laughs and some tears as we travel down the road of life with her realistic characters.
I never even looked at the synopsis, just picked up Blueberry Hill and started reading. After all, it’s Bette Lee, so I know it will be good. Oh man……this hits very close to home.
Donna killed herself. She didn’t do it by popping pills or slitting her wrists, but by her lifestyle choices.
Donna was carefree. She lived for the moment. She was popular, cool, and believed anything is possible. She would then proceed to make it happen. She was very generous; spent the money she earned, while Bette would save. Donna has attitude with a capital A. I am loving her.
The female version of Fonzi from Happy Days.
Mama said Bette was the oldest, so it was her responsibility to keep her two sisters out of trouble. I can see where that could lead to guilt for not doing more to save Donna from herself. I, too, have dealt with the issue of enabling. When is the time to step in? Do we have the right to tell someone how to live, even if they have chosen a destructive lifestyle?
Bette felt they were a normal family, until Donna ran away. Even after she came back, they were never the same. Donna fell in love with a loser, who divorced her and left her after she had a baby. She married him again and had another child, but the marriage didn’t stick. We don’t choose who we fall in love with. She never quit loving him, even until her death. She was a great mother, full of love. The real loss was when the nest was EMPTY.
“Having a sister is like having a thumb, you simply believe it will always be there, because how could you possible get along without it.”
I have tears in my eyes as I read this. I recently lost one of my sisters and this almost sounds like her biography. She used to call me tag-a-long when we were kids, because I followed her everywhere. It is still hard to believe she is really gone. We do become involved in our daily lives and think tomorrow I’ll….call her…get with her….take the time to stop in……At least I can take consolation in the fact that she lived her life the way she wanted ( like Donna).
Bette Lee Crosby left out the horrid details that would rip our hearts out, but I felt the pain, as she relived the memories. With the loss of my sister, I can relate to the story on a very personal level. When do you step in, especially when you know it will do no good? We must remember, it is their life. They are a grown up. We can lie to ourselves and live in denial, but what will be, will be. My sister and Donna chose their exit from this world. Won’t we do the same?
Bette’s books can be thought provoking, heart wrenching and uplifting all at the same time. She can make me sob like a baby, when my heart is broken and laugh like a happy child, when a delightful surprise comes my way. Bette Lee’s books don’t always end with a happy ever after, but they do cover a lot of life’s trials and tribulations that we are familiar with.
I received Blueberry Hill from Bette Lee in return for an honest, unbiased review.
“Wouldn’t you love to go there?”
“Go where?”
“Blueberry Hill.”
“Blueberry Hill isn’t a real place. It’s just a title somebody made up for the song.”
“Believe what you want, but I know it’s real.”
To give a lot when you have a lot is easy, but to give a lot when you have so little is indeed a gift of love.
“You can love her or hate her, but you will never control her.” My sister to a T.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Bette Lee CrosbyUSA Today Bestselling and Award-winning novelist Bette Lee Crosby brings the wit and wisdom of her Southern Mama to works of fiction–the result is a delightful blend of humor, mystery and romance along with a cast of quirky charters who will steal your heart away.
Born in Detroit and raised in a plethora of states scattered across the South and Northeast, Crosby originally studied art and began her career as a packaging designer. When asked to write a few lines of copy for the back of a pantyhose package, she discovered a love for words that was irrepressible. After years of writing for business, she turned to works of fiction and never looked back. “Storytelling is in my blood,” Crosby laughingly admits, “My mom was not a writer, but she was a captivating storyteller, so I find myself using bits and pieces of her voice in most everything I write.”
Crosby’s work was first recognized in 2006 when she received The National League of American Pen Women Award for a then unpublished manuscript. Since that, she has gone on to win several more awards, including another NLAPW award, Royal Palm Literary Awards, the FPA President’s Book Award Gold Medal and Reviewer’s Choice Award and Reader’s View Southeast Fiction Literary Award.
Her published works to date are: Jubilee’s Journey (2013), What Matters Most (2013), The Twelfth Child (2012), Cupid’s Christmas (2012), Cracks in the Sidewalk (2011), Spare Change (2011), and Life in the Land of IS (2012). Life in the Land of IS is a memoir written for Lani Deauville, a woman the Guinness Book of Records lists as the world’s longest living quadriplegic.
Blueberry Hill is a tale of family relationships, love and tragedy. It is a story that will touch your heart and stay with you long after you have closed the book.
Mother Earth is Pissed! – Gemini Rising by Jessica O’Gorek – Excerpt & Giveaway
VBT_Gemini_Rising_Tour_Banner_copyThe hypnotizing cover of Gemini Rising: Ethereal Fury by Jessica O’Gorek has my complete attention.
I love the way it is set up, including the font, which gives me an eerie feeling.
I saw – everyone has spare humans – and busted out laughing. How could I say no to reviewing Gemini Rising after that?
Gemini Rising: Ethereal Fury
by Jessica O’Gorek
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

MY REVIEW

I have seen Gemini Rising making the rounds on the blogosphere and have wanted to read it ever since I saw the cover. I feel concerned about our exploitation of earth’s resources and the ME attitude that seems pervasive in our society today, so the synopsis jumped out and said read me. This fantasy romance is all I hoped for.

Oliver Weldon worked for Spot Petroleum. His rush to tap into one of the largest African oil fields in 1956 was coming back to bite him in the ass. The 2:00am call warned him, but he had his millions and no regrets. Lost lives and the environment devastated was just part of business to him, so he went back to sleep. Mother Nature is pissed and she is not going to take it any more and he wears a bullseye.

Gemini are the servants of the earth and since his death, Oliver is one of them. His name is now Onyx, for his black soul. They were an army of lost souls “living” in their own version of purgatory.

“Possess and destroy.” The means did not matter.

Their mission was part of Mother’s plan to fix the problem the human race had created. They spread plagues, famines, fires……Would she allow any human to remain? Was her goal to exterminate the human race?

The Gemini’s strategy was to enter the churches first, then slowly spread throughout the town.

Darius, seemed to be the only one who was aware of what was happening, but that was not so.

Slate idolizes Darius, but soon becomes suspicious. What part will he play as the humans fight back?

Violette holds a fascination for Slate and Onxy. She is sixteen, naïve and I feel something special is in store for her.

Onyx no longer knows the way of humans. He no longer understands their feelings of attraction and desire, their need to protect. He is a supernatural being that can take on any shape or form, has the ability to become invisible and reverse time, able to heal all wounds and move at super speeds. He is extremely powerful and can obliterate the human species.

What about Slate? Who would win the battle for his body – Slate or Onyx? Was he in love with Violette too?

Was Onyx’s attraction to her because he wanted to defile and corrupt a virgin child? His biggest surprise was to find he had no defense again the wisp of a girl.

I am leery of the Bishop. Does he have an ulterior motive?

Gemini rising holds a warning for all of us, but doesn’t preach. It does emphasize the anger of mother earth and her need to eradicate the pests who are destroying her. Think about it! Is the Earth rising up in our current time? Is it warning us through plague, fires, landslides, polluted waters…….to be more careful. After all, our resources are finite.

Gemini Rising reminded me of Host by Stephanie Meyer, when talking about Onyx’s possession of others, but he went from body to body intending ill will, murder and death. I feel there is much more to come.

I love Jessica’s bio and can see how she came up with idea for this wonderful fantasy.

I received the book in return for an honest and unbiased review.

EXCERPT

Chapter 4

Everyone has spare humans

“Give me my brother back and I’ll go to Saint Augustine’s,” a small voice, that of a child, caught his attention. He could barely make out the shadow of a little girl to his right, huddled behind a larger man with bulging eyes and greasy hair. With more gusto in her voice, she stepped out from behind the man and stood up taller, her jaw set in challenge.

“I said, let my brother Collin go, and I’ll get you into Saint Augustine’s.”

Something about the guts it took to speak to him so defiantly and offer herself for sacrifice intrigued him, but he wasn’t sure if she was even a member of the church.

“You belong to the church?” Onyx watched her head fall and her eyes blur with tears.

“I did…once.” She faltered in her brave facade, something in her broke, the frown on her face turned into a dark grimace.

“So none of you are current members?” A few murmurs of the word “no” and he was satisfied. Their testimonies seemed heartfelt and sincere. He did not feel like entering all of their minds one by one, his ire began to fade and the temperature immediately fell a few degrees. “All right, enough,” he said in defeat. The atmosphere then changed to one of relief and confusion.

“But you didn’t answer our question. We answered yours, but you didn’t answer ours!” A balding man almost cried as he slumped against the wall and rubbed his wrists where his shackles had scoured them raw.

“Why?” A woman beside him chimed in as Onyx turned to leave.

“Give me my brother! I know you have him!” The shy little girl was now screaming accusations at him, her fists pumping the air, but he paid her no mind.

It was always easier to leave out the details. Tork always said there was nothing worse than a room full of hysterical captives. Bad enough to be human, but add in the adrenaline and the fear of the unknown, they became that much more insufferable. He ignored their pleas and timid curses, pulling the door shut with a thud, cutting off their curious stares. Someone yelled out they were hungry and he hesitated a little, trying to remember what hunger was. Ah yes, the need for food. The youngest of his clan, Sapphire, usually fed them three meals a day: canned food, all stolen from the local country store. He had no need for food and didn’t keep any around. Sapphire and some others would simply slip into the stores at night and rob them blind in small quantities.

 ABOUT THE AUTHOR

MEDIA_KIT_Author_PhotoI was born in Chesapeake, Virginia on April 19th, 1979. I was raised within the American Indian religion and was taught great respect for the earth and all its living beings. Powwows, sweat lodges, vision quests, you name it, I’ve done it. I was the weird kid who would confront kids on the playground in elementary school when they squished a bug. I would very sincerely tell them what they were doing was morally wrong and then I would pray for the bug to come back as a butterfly in its next life.

I grew up admiring my father, Barry Weinstock, as an author. He took me around the country to different places so he could research and write his Wilderness Survival books. One of his greatest works, “The Path of Power,” was written with a great medicine man, Sunbear.

When I was twelve I started hand writing novels. My first one was two thousand pages. My dad always encouraged me and would rave about my writing. He gave me the confidence I needed to keep writing and follow my dream. My daughter, who is twelve, is currently working on her first novel. I hope to continue the legacy.
