SYNOPSIS
.

All her life, clever Aemi has been a slave in the Village of the Rocks, a place where the sea and sky meet. She’s heard the stories about the fabled People of the Sea, a people who possess unimaginable technology who live below the waves in the dark, secret places of the ocean. But she never dreamed those stories were true.

When a ship emerges from the ocean and men burn her village, Aemi is captured, and enslaved below the waves in Itlantis, a world filled with ancient cities of glass and metal, floating gardens, and wondrous devices that seem to work magic. To make matters worse, her village nemesis, the stuck-up mayor’s son Nol, was captured with her, and they are made servants in the same household beneath the sea.

Desperate to be free, Aemi plots her escape, even going so far as to work with Nol. But the sea holds more secrets than she realizes, and escape might not be as simple as leaving…

INTERVIEW WITH KATE AVERY ELLISON
.

Describe Of Sea and Stone in six words.

Atlantis, steampunk, sunlight, seawater, secrets, romance.

What books have you read and loved lately?

I am almost finished with Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta, and it’s an absolute delight. Witty, immersive, and utterly compelling fantasy that reminds me very much of my beloved Megan Whalen Turner books.

 Ice cream or cake?

Ice cream cake, of course! It’s the best of both worlds.

What authors have influenced your writing style the most?

I grew up on a pretty steady diet of mystery, actually, so I feel like classic mystery authors like Agatha Christie had a strong influence on me. When I was a teenager, I started reading fantasy by authors like Robin McKinley, Gail Carson Levine, and Sherwood Smith. The Blue Sword, Ella Enchanted, Crown Duel…I loved those books. I also had a huge love of historical fiction, so Ann Rinaldi, Elizabeth George Speare, and Eloise Jarvis McGraw influenced me a lot as well. As far as more recently-written books that I didn’t grow up reading, I continue to be an awe of fantasy authors Megan Whalen Turner (The Thief, The Queen of Attolia, etc.) and Melina Marchetta (Finnikin of the Rock), dystopian author Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games), and contemporary young adult authors Lucy Christopher (Stolen) and John Green (A Fault in Our Stars).

If you had to pick a shoe that represented your writing style, what would it be?

Have you seen those canvas shoes where an artist has drawn original artwork on the front and sides and is selling them online? I think my books are like that—in some ways they feel familiar, but they have their own surprises and twists that make them unique.

Who has been the most supportive person in your writing career?

My husband. About two years into trying to get published, I was ready to give up on my stories and get a job doing something tremendously ill-suited for me, like being a secretary (I am a very bad secretary. Very disorganized). He convinced me to give it more time, and he is probably the sole reason I am published today. He is my first reader, my strongest encourager, and my most reliable critic.

Are you working on anything else currently?

Yes! I’m currently hard at work on the second book in the Secrets of Itlantis series, and I’m also working on a few secret projects on the side—one is a more traditional fantasy, another is a post-apocalyptic novel. I hope to have more details about them for my readers very soon.

Like the “Son”, would Charmeine sacrifice herself to save the others?

Mactus: The Light-Bearer Series (Book II) by Emily Guido

Spoiler Alert: This is the second book in The Light-Bearer Series.

Mactus – Latin – means well done, good job, honored, good luck.

Charmeine and Tabbruis awoke to Shane barging in, demanding answers. Shane was very protective of Charmeine and he didn’t like the idea that Tabbrius could be taking advantage of her.

Tabbruis told him that he had been an orphan, like Charmeine and that he was also a vampire. Charmeine went on to tell Shane how they had found out that Tabbruis was a Blood-Hunter and she was a Light-Bearer. Tabbruis explained that they were sworn enemies, but their love was something special, their hearts beat as one, and Tabbruis could no longer see a life without her.

Shane proceeded to tell them, that he was also an orphan. He told them about a dream he had. It was the same dream that Charmeine and Tabbruis had been talking about. They had all been together. What could it mean?

Then, everything came rushing back to Charmeine. She told them what she remembered, that her and Tabbruis had been married and Shane was their child. They had been a family in Heaven. Shane was the one to voice the question – Why? Why had they forgotten? And what had happened to separate them?

Hurt, pain, and loneliness poured from them, only to replaced by love, joy and a sense of belonging.

Tabbruis’ voodoo stare told them to do as he said, when he told them to get ready to leave. They were going to Romania. Dimitri had sent Tabbruis’ “brother” to collect them.

They were attacked at the airport. The fight was brutal and to the death. No one had known, not even Shane, that he had powers, but when the Blood-Hunter took Charmeine, Shane was the one who saved her.

Tabbruis had seen a darkness surrounding Charmeine, but said nothing.

As they approached Dimitri’s castle, security kept getting tighter, more intense. It was now going to be their home too.draculas castle Pictures, Images and Photos

In Tabbruis’ dream, Charmeine was being tortured. He awoke with a start and immediately started looking for her, but she was gone. He had told her that God had made him for her and she for him. Their hearts beat in tune and their love would save them.

But, like the “Son”, would Charmeine  sacrifice herself to save the others?

4 STARS – Would Highly Recommend To Others

The cover is pretty, but does not do the story justice. It does show that Charmeine and Tabbruis are together, but it does not portray what they will have to go through to make that happen. The title is appropriate. It will take good luck for them to make it through what is to come.

Not only do the characters grow on you, the story deepens and takes you along with it. As they fight to survive, they risk it all. But Tabbruis does not want to live without Charmeine. He must convince her, not to sacrifice herself. There has to be another way.

Their friends will give up their lives to help keep them safe. How many of us can say the same? To have such loyal family and friends could be something we all strive for. Not only to have for ourselves, but to be that family member or friend that would do the same.

I marvel at Emily’s ability to, not just create the story, but to be able to describe it so vividly that I feel as if it could be real. Who is to say? Do you believe in Angels? If you do, then there must be demons also. Who knows what form they would take.

I received this book free from the author. I am not sure if she expected a review or not, but as I read through every book of the series (and I can hardly wait to start the next book) I will be doing a review for each and every one. I would like others to see, that this is a series that they will want to add to their collection of books.

Some Of My Favorite Quotes

“So I will have you forever.” – Tabbruis

“Yep! No exchanges or refunds. You’ve already ripped off the tag. Sorry.” – Charmeine

“Marriage is a three-ring circus: engagement ring, wedding ring  and suffering.” -Tabbruis

Notes to Reviewers and Readers:
First, the Blood-Hunter race or Elders have been on Earth for thousands of years. Because of this, they do not use contractions like I’m, don’t or can’t. They communicate in a more refined way because of their age.

Second, there are several OLD editions out in circulation of my books. Please leave a review on the current edition. Please feel free to contact me, Emily, at guido.emily@gmail.com to check the edition you have is the recent edition.
