Meet the Author:

I grew up in Lincoln, R.I. which is a blue-collar town, went To Babson University School of Business, and graduated with a BSBA in 1966. I worked my way around the USA for six months.

Two years later, I traveled with the son of the richest man in the world – covering 19,988 miles, twelve countries, and ten weeks.

Then, I went to work at Broadway Tire Inc. Twenty years later, I bought the business. I then owned and operated it for thirty more years before retiring in 2016!

In Between, I met and married my wife Ronna and had two beautiful children, and now I have five grandchildren!

The love of travel remained with me, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have visited 75 countries – each in a unique style – all my own way, using much of which I learned in my travels with Maurice in 1968.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
“Absolutely. This city, these mountains have my heart. This place will always be my home. I never want to leave. I’ve seen the ugly part of the world. I just want peace.”
The words were haunting, almost damning. She listened to the lull of the water as her life rolled past in nasty visions. She’d been doing nothing but living a lie. “You know, I thought I was in love with a member from my band. He was everything to me for years. Enough so, I didn’t see what was happening around me. I was so blinded by ambition that I lost myself, falling into the political world of music. Play this. Dress this way. Lose twenty pounds. Die your hair. Christ. I was drowning in a sea of bullshit.”
“But you’re a famous rocker.”
“No. I’m not certain I ever was.”
He gave her a wry smile. “I think so anyway. I finally looked you up.”
“You did?”
Laughing, he nodded. “Not my kind of music, but you’re damn good and pretty sexy too on those covers of yours. You had a couple number one records. Listen to me. I’m dating myself.”
“I still call them records. Gold records on your wall are much more impressive than a small CD,” she said as she rolled her eyes. “I think I’ve finally figured out I’m more of a country girl. And no laughing.”
“Oh yeah?” He winked as he gave her a surprised look. “I won’t say a thing, city slicker.”
“Hey, I’m on a horse, aren’t I? I have you to blame for my new-found love of the outdoors.” Jessica realized her words were true. “I could see living here.”
“Then you couldn’t regain your career.” His words were terse, challenged.
“I’m not certain what I want any longer in my life or my career. That’s why this time has been so important, precious in a way I didn’t understand when I came here.” She exhaled. “Maybe I’m fooling myself.” What could she possibly do here? Sing at Ziggy’s for the rest of her life? Maybe record a country song or two, that is if anyone was willing to take a chance on her ever again? Maybe she could be a housewife. The thoughts shoved fear into her heart.
They remained quiet for several minutes.
“You had a nightmare last night. You were talking in your sleep.”
The moment he spoke, she clenched her fists tightly around the reins. “Had them for years.”
“Who were you running from?” he asked as he turned his head in her direction.
Jessica closed her eyes and remained quiet. No daddy, you’re not going to ruin the rest of my life. “My father. He was a true monster. He beat me and my mother for years. I was so little when the violence started that I couldn’t protect her. When I was older, I had my needed revenge.” When she didn’t hear anything, she glanced in his direction. “I threw him out of the house at knifepoint. He tried to return twice, but I was very clear. My mother deserved to have a life and she did. She had friends and pretty clothes. I made certain of that. She even went on tour with me once. Just once before she got sick, but she said she was proud… of… me.” Choking back tears, she blinked several times as she tried to concentrate on the mountains. She’d never told Cody the entire story, had never believed he’d care.
MY REVIEW
WOW. Blew me away.
Children of the Fifth Sun was not what I was expecting. It was SO much more.
Evolution. Where do we come from?
A deadly virus.
Intelligent non human life form.
Kelly is a handful, with his flippant comments and sarcasm, but he had become Freya’s handful and someone I would want at my side in times of trouble. At least you know where he stands and that you can always count on him
Amazing. I could not predict the ending, but I loved it.
So….strap yourself in, because this will be an action packed wild ride that takes you round the world in a nail biting, white knuckled, engrossing story.
Synopsis:
Thousands of years ago, an ancient species from the sea saved humanity; now a cocky, free-diving photographer tortured by his past is the unlikely hero who must save the last of their kind from a global race between nations to control the creature’s power.
IN ALMOST EVERY BELIEF SYSTEM ON EARTH, there exists a single unifying mythos: thousands of years ago a great flood devastated the Earth’s inhabitants. From the ruins of this cataclysm, a race of beings emerged from the sea bestowing knowledge and culture upon humanity, saving us from our selfish drive toward extinction. Some say this race were “ancient aliens” who came to assist our evolution. But what if they weren’t alien at all? What if they evolved right here on Earth, alongside humans . . . and they are still here? And, what if the World’s governments already know?
Kelly Graham is a narcissistic, self-assured, freelance photographer specializing in underwater assignments. While on a project in the Amazon with his best friend, Chris D’Souza, a mysterious and beautiful government official, Freya Nilsson, enters Kelly’s life and turns it upside down. Her simple request to retrieve a strange object from deep underwater puts him in the middle of an international conspiracy. A conspiracy that threatens to change the course of human history.
Read an excerpt:
Freya elegantly glided in front of Kelly, breaking his train of thought. Her slender body slid through the water with grace and ease. She must have sensed his stare, because she turned her head to face him and gave a huge, regulator-filled grin. Kelly stifled a laugh.
He turned back to his equipment to check their depth—sixty-five feet. They were at the sea floor. It wasn’t very deep, but this was where it was supposed to be. He motioned his right arm to get Freya’s attention. He then signaled for her to look down and keep her eyes open. She gave the okay sign.
As they swam a little further, the structure came into sight just as Alexandro’s information had indicated. A large horseshoe-shaped wall, three-feet thick and six-feet tall, spanned more than two-hundred-fifty feet in diameter. Other than that, it was unimpressive—just an old stone wall. Surely, if a team had already been down here, they would have found an orb? Kelly pulled himself along the bottom, sifting through the sand, picking up each stone he came across. He shook his head and looked across at Freya. She seemed to be having similar poor luck, pointlessly rummaging through silt and mud. He swam across to her and pointed in front, indicating his intent to look on ahead. She nodded and watched as he flicked his fins, disappearing into a haze of ocean and sand particles.
Freya returned to her treasure hunt. All she found were rocks and the odd tin or soft drink can. Ugh, it was disgusting. Even the ocean wasn’t safe from humanity. She reached the outer edge of the stone wall and swam along, keeping close to it. Her gloved fingers prodded into each crack and crevice, not that she could feel anything through the thick material. Her mask was beginning to fill with water. She thought about Kelly’s instruction and began the mask clearing procedure.
Pressing the palm of her right hand against the top of her mask so the bottom released a few millimeters from her face, she exhaled hard through her nose, forcing the water out. A stream of bubbles crashed about her head in a white-water curtain. As it cleared, a small metallic glint protruding from beneath one of the huge stone bricks caught her eye. She clawed her way to it, then started digging in the sand. The fine silt clouded up around her, obscuring her view. Using only her limited sense of touch, Freya kept tunneling under the wall. The familiar shape of a box began to form under her fingers. She dug beneath until she could grip the box with both hands. Tugging hard, she released the cuboid object from its hold in the silt. The billow of sand cleared.
She stared at her treasure. It was a small chest, copper-colored with a green oxidized coating on its surface. She smiled. Could this be it? Could there be an orb inside? The excitement power through her. She raised her head to see if Kelly was nearby, but he wasn’t anywhere to be seen. She swam in a circle. The inability to hear or feel anything was unnerving. She only had the power of sight and that was restricted to a straight line in front of her for one hundred fifty feet or so.
The light above her dimmed. Freya frowned and raised her head to investigate. Above her, the huge shadow of a shark glided by. She knew her mask would magnify any object, but still, the thing looked huge. Its blunt snout and thick body looked positively primeval—the perfect predator. Panic set in.
Damn, where was Kelly? Clutching her treasure, Freya lowered her head. She searched for the knife strapped to her right calf. Before she could find it, her gaze was met by the cold stare of reptilian eyes. A sea snake was inches from her face, rippling its body to hold its position. Its eyes were fixed on hers. She froze, holding her breath. Freya shifted her focus from the uncomfortably close predator to the shadow lurking behind it. Oh God. The shark?
It was Kelly. A brief feeling of relief washed over her, but it was snatched away by the searing pain of fangs plunging into her left hand. Freya gargled a scream through her regulator and dropped the box, letting it fall to the sea floor. The snake shot off into murk as Kelly tore through the water toward her. Her breathing slowed and her limbs grew heavy. Her eyelids slid closed. She blinked before her eyes closed one last time.
TechnoThriller – The Masters’ Key by Helen Hanson @HelenHanson
The Masters’ Key by Helen Hanson is FANTASTIC!
This is one of those reviews that, if I was on my toes, would have been written back in May of 2015, and is part of my Blogging Shame Challenge.
Helen Hanson is firmly on my grab-every-time-I-see-one-of-her-books list.
The Masters' Key (Masters CIA Thriller, #2)
Goodreads  /  Amazon US  /  Amazon UK  /  Amazon CA
MY REVIEW
I love conspiracies and political thrillers. The Master’s Key by Helen Hanson is filled with over the top suspense.
Technological terrorism that is terrifying to even think about.
We have betrayal, computer attacks, revenge, malice, and so much more.
The characters run the gamut. From good to bad:  the evil bitch that’s pissed she didn’t get her way, the greedy partner, the CEO whose demands cross the line, the sick woman who’s heart is pure and the man who loves her.
The Masters’ Key is very frightening…filled with the technological implications and disasters that can occur when a psycho has you in his sights. I love trying to figure out characters motivations, but this psychos thoughts are so far past my understanding. Would anyone be safe, anywhere, if he wanted to get to you? I don’t think so.
I would like to reach into my Kindle, grab him around the throat, and…
Action packed. The tension level is off the charts, as I see the bad guys in every shadow, around every corner, and behind every door.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of The Masters’ Key by Helen Hanson.
INTERVIEW WITH HELEN HANSON:
Q: What does Helen Hanson bring to the thriller genre?
HH — Heart-skipping pace, life-critical stakes, and broody, looming danger wrapped in a twenty-first century skin. We live in a time when technology surrounds us. The kid down the street has instant access to information unfathomable a century ago. Consequently crime had gone digital, online, and victims rarely see what hit them.
Because of my background, I present the technology employed by my characters in a fluent way to readers. They say I write about techno topics in a way that makes them enjoyable. I don’t burden the prose with jargon. Most readers want to know what kind of gun is fired, not how to field strip it.
Q: Tell us about your characters.
HH — My characters are unique beings, each requiring a different spark to light the fire. I explore their sparks.
I create believable characters with realistic dialogue engaged in page-flipping action. I like to watch ordinary people find the extraordinary in themselves when facing adversity. No one is surprised when Jason Bourne takes out a detachment of Marines, but we can’t say that about waitress Maggie Fender.
My protagonists don’t possess the Special Forces skills of a super spy. They stumble into dangerous situations and use technology to advance their position even if it isn’t strictly legal. The stakes have to be worthy of a fight.
Plus, they’re witty people who possess veins of humor. As in life, it punctuates disaster.
Q: Where do your thrillers take place?
HH — The action in my thrillers takes place in a variety of locations around the globe. So far, we’ve landed in: Russia, Boston, San Francisco, Pakistan, Washington D.C., Santa Cruz, Venezuela, Half Moon Bay, and Mongolia. Since the characters across my novels exist in the same story world, they often appear in other works, though the current titles are not a single series.
Q: Do you write your thrillers in series?
HH — At the request of my readers, I have. The sequel to 3 LIES is now out and called THE MASTERS’ KEY, with a third volume on deck. After that, I’ll expand from DARK POOL and OCEAN OF FEAR because those characters are bound to find new adventures. With an FBI agent, a hacker, and a robotics expert in the lineup, they offer continuous fodder for action and suspense
ABOUT HELEN HANSON
Helen HansonBestselling author Helen Hanson writes thrillers about desperate people with a high-tech bent. Hackers. The CIA. Industry titans. Guys on sailboats. Mobsters. Their personal maelstroms pit them against unrelenting forces willing to kill. Throughout the journey, they try to find some truth, a little humor, and their humanity — from either end of the trigger.
While Helen writes about the power hungry, she genuinely mistrusts anyone who wants to rule the world.
Helen directed operations for high-tech manufacturers of semiconductors, video games, software, and computers. Her reluctant education behind the redwood curtain culminated in a B.S. in Business Administration with concentrated studies in Computer Science. She also learned to play a mean game of hacky sack.
She is a licensed private pilot with a ticket for single-engine aircraft. Helen and her husband spent their first anniversary with their flight instructor studying for the FAA practical. If you were a passenger on a 737 trying to land at SJC in 1995, she sends her most sincere apologies. Really.
Born in fly-over country, Helen has lived on both coasts, near both borders, and at several locations in between. She lettered in tennis, worked as a machinist, and saw the Clash at the San Francisco Civic Auditorium sometime in the eighties. She currently lives amid the bricks of Texas with her husband, son, and a dog that composes music with squeaky toys.
If you enjoy her books, please consider writing a review. If you don’t, please be kind.
“Pack existed before ceremonies,” Sam said, sounding amused. “Magic binds more obviously, more extensively, but not more deeply.”
Book Beginnings
The starter complained as it turned over the old Buick’s heavy engine. I felt a  lot of sympathy for it since fighting outside my weight class was something I was intimately familiar with. I’m a coyote shapeshifter playing in a world of werewolves and vampires – outmatched is an understatement.
GOODREADS BLURB:  Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, never knows what the day – or night – may bring in a world where “witches, vampires, werewolves, and shapeshifters live beside ordinary people” (Booklist). But she is about to learn that while some secrets are dangerous whose who seek them are just plain deadly…
Mercy is smart enough to realize that when it comes to the magical fae, the less you know, the better. But you can’t always get what you want. When she attempts to return a powerful fae she previously borrowed in an act of desperation, she finds the bookstore locked up and closed down.
It seems the book contains secrets – and the fae will do just about anything to keep it out of the wrong hands. And if that doesn’t take enough of Mercy’s attention, her friend Samuel is struggling with his wolf side – leaving Mercy to cover for him lest his own father declare Samuel’s life forfeit.
All in all, Mercy has had better days. And if she isn’t careful, she may not have many more…
Review – The Rising by Heather Graham & Jon Land @jondland #HeatherGraham
No need to think twice when it comes to The Rising by Heather Graham and Jon Land.
The Rising
Amazon  /  Goodreads
MY REVIEW
Buckle your seat belt because this is going to be a very bumpy ride.
Two of my must read authors, Heather Graham and Jon Land, have come together to create to create a fabulous science fiction  thriller in The Rising.
Alex is special and he doesn’t know it. He suffers a football injury, winding up in the hospital, and the action and adventure begin.
As Alex, Sam, Raiff and Donati are drawn together, forces are determined to stop them.
The Trackers want him. The Watchers and Guardians protect him.
And don’t we always have someone that wants to rule the world and will do anything to accomplish it? Villains are fascinating, to me. The worse they are, the more I love them.
Scientists beware. Your actions can change the world!
Particle accelerators, quantam space, wormholes, doorways into space, space time continuum…
This Terminator like suspense story has everything you would want in a science fiction fantasy…action, mystery, thrills and a story line that will spur your imagination and give you hours of reading pleasure.
There is more to come and I think H G Wells has nothing on Heather Graham and Jon Land. I can hardly wait to go on the next adventure. …Take me away.
MY HEATHER GRAHAM REVIEWS
Short Story Anthology – Worlds of Wonder by Emily Martha Sorensen @CleanYAFantasy
I have recently found author Emily Martha Sorensen and am loving her writing, so when I was offered a chance to read this short story anthology, I couldn’t resist.
Worlds of Wonder: A Short Story Anthology
Amazon  /  Goodreads
MY REVIEW
These sixteen short stories will have you traveling, flying high, using magic, and having action and adventure in bite sized pieces. We have some science fiction, some fantasy and some life lessons, with choices to be made.
Many of them are fairy tale remakes with morals to the stories that may leave you thinking…
A few of my favorites:
Beauty and the Brave:  A fun twist on the Ugly Duckling. The young female dragon becomes the hero.
“At least according to the cops,” says Harry. “Could be whoever did it just panicked. Think about it: You just get in the place, getting ready to do your burglary. She walks in. You freak out. You pop her It’s happened before.”
.
“Hell of a shooter for a panicky burglar.” I am talking about the two shots to the head. “Less than an inch apart.”
Book Beginnings
Mist off the ocean was already beginning to drift over the pavement as he cruised along the beach in the rented Chevy. The house stood out like a gem, the last piece of private real estate before the public steps leading down to the beach. With chocolate-brown siding and white trim, the house sported rustic gables going in every direction beneath a river rock chimney.
GOODREADS BLURB: The Arraignment, Steve Martini’s most recent bestseller featuring defense attorney Paul Madriani, has proved his most popular yet. Now Madriani is faced with daunting ballistics evidence: a so-called “double tap”-two bullet wounds tightly grouped in the victim’s head, shots that could have been made only by a crack marksman. Paul’s client, Emiliano Ruiz, is an enigma-a career soldier who refuses to discuss his past though it is clear that he is a battle-tested pro. Ruiz is accused of killing a beautiful businesswoman and guru of a high-tech software empire catering to the military. A key to the case: the murder weapon is one used solely in special operations, where the “double tap” has become the signature of the most skilled assassins.
Ruiz is sitting on secrets-there’s a seven-year gap on his military risumi, for which Madriani can find no details. And, more troubling, he discovers that the victim and her company were involved in a controversial government computer program designed to combat terrorists. Madriani finds himself in a deadly legal quagmire-with a client who is unwilling to cooperate and prosecutors who stonewall his every question about the victim’s shadowy business and his client’s past. Justice, and the unvarnished truth, has never been so elusive-or so dangerous.
A KILLER’S GRACE Blurb
From the high desert of New Mexico comes a tale of mystery, murder and redemption. When journalist Kevin Pitcairn receives a disturbing letter from a serial killer, he is drawn into a compelling journey with profound psychological and spiritual implications, not just for the murderer, but for himself and society as a whole. As he tries to investigate and then tell the story, he finds himself battling his own inner demons and sordid history. Events conspire to propel an isolated matter to a national stage and audiences that are increasingly hostile. Forced to explore the roots of human psychology and sanity, Pitcairn must navigate moral and philosophical realms. What is the nature of evil? What powers of choice do humans actually possess? How may we be redeemed? And in the end, how do we reconcile with ourselves?
EXCERPT for A Killer’s Grace
As a freelance journalist and columnist for the local afternoon newspaper, the Albuquerque Chronicle, Pitcairn often received unsolicited mail. In this case, he immediately recognized the name of Daniel Davidson. He knew all about the case. Davidson was convicted for the murder of four of his six Texas victims after protracted delays for psychiatric evaluation. During that time, the state of Oklahoma had opted not to prosecute him for the murder of a seventh victim. But after those many lengthy delays, he was remanded to the custody of the state of New Mexico for trial in the murder of a seventeen-year-old Santa Fe high school girl.
That final proceeding was notorious for ending without a conviction two weeks before. Unlike the Texans, this jury had bought the psychological evidence. Their decision was greeted with derision and accusations of racism from the northern New Mexican, Hispanic community to which the young woman belonged. The police had to quell a near riot. Now Davidson was to be returned to Texas to await execution.
Davidson’s case was unusual. Despite the efforts of anti-death penalty agitators to appeal his case in Texas on psychiatric grounds, especially in light of the New Mexican decision, the murderer requested that his sentence be carried out as soon as possible. It was reported that he understood he had broken society’s covenants and actively sought his own death.
EXCERPT for My Name Is Wonder
Oren turned back to Wonder and spoke gently. “First, little one, I must tell you that you are not Wonder.”
Wonder knew enough about Oren to know he spoke with the weight of the wisdom of generations. He had also heard that Oren was a philosopher. The gravity of the moment was not lost on the little goat as he considered this statement carefully. Somehow he knew that nothing but the truth would suffice.
“I don’t get it,” he said with a scrunched up face.
“Your name may be Wonder, but Wonder you are not.” He studied the kid, watching for any signs of dawning comprehension. Wonder cocked his head to one side, still puzzled, and the old buck continued. “The form you find yourself in is that of a goat, but you are not a goat. There is that which is, and then there is that which is truth. If you are to learn, you must learn to be absolutely clear about such matters.”
Oren fell silent, waiting.
Wonder blinked—once, twice—and then said, “Got it!”
The wise goat responded in an amused tone, “Do you now?”
“Yes, sir. My name is Wonder.” He grinned and then continued, “And I am not that.”
“Ha!” responded Oren. “I believe you do have it, young one, but let us see.” He almost, but not quite, grinned back at Wonder. It was hard to tell with the long, white beard. “What are you if not Wonder?”
The kid leapt at the answer. “Well sir, I don’t guess I know.”
“Indeed,” replied Oren, his yellow eyes dancing. “True wisdom is knowing that you know nothing.”
“Then I must be very wise indeed, sir.”
