LYING, CHEATING HEART Synopsis

No More Lies!

Cassie Vera thought the biggest threat to her life disappeared the night her boyfriend, A.J. Vasillios, used his one-time-use power and saved her from certain death.

She was wrong.

The mythological hit list she was on is nothing compared to her freshman year at the University of Las Vegas. Rooming with Vegas’s future female royalty has pushed her estrogen tolerance to its limit. Worse, Cassie must take place in a time-honored tradition that tests her faith, while her boyfriend’s new job threatens to shatter her heart.

When age-old traditions change …

Cassie’s school year is interrupted when the future queens are ordered to represent their houses in an annual high-stakes competition. While at her ancestral home in Malaga, Spain, Cassie discovers the Greek gods have gifted her with new abilities. Cassie takes matters of righting an eighteen-year-old wrong into her hands. However, actions have consequences, and Cassie’s may very well end up costing her and the House of Hearts everything.

With her family’s future at stake and the love of her life choosing sides, Cassie must cheat death one more time.

When duty requires you to do the unthinkable, where will your loyalties lie?

Only a Cheating Heart Knows.

EXCERPT

Crazy had a way of becoming normal, even expected in Las Vegas. What used to have us gaping and entranced now became predictable. Which made me worry. How would all of this look in four years? How much would we have changed? And how different would we be when we were our mothers’ ages?

In front of us, Helen walked, spinning around every few steps to make sure she took in all of Freemont Street. Mesmerized by the sites and the sounds. She bumped into a girl wearing a G-string and tasseled pasties on her boobs, passing out flyers for a topless bar. Helen’s face blushed, and she couldn’t get away from the girl fast enough. Olivia kept walking, and Gia next to me barely gave the incident a second thought. The extraordinary had already bled out of those two future queens.

Gia pulled me closer to her. “The morning before I left, I did a shore run. Three miles to your house, three miles back to mine.”

“Yeah?” I already knew where this conversation was headed.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were putting the Malibu house on the market?”

“Why? You interested? I can guarantee you it doesn’t have any happy memories radiating from the walls. And the people who made it a home are gone.” I chewed on the inside of my cheek, willing the emotions to stay away.

“Maybe it’s waiting for you to make new ones.”

“And maybe you should wake up and smell reality.” I pulled in a deep breath, my nose wrinkling at the stench of the Shadows Catacombs at the end of the street. “This is our future, Gia. This and that.” I pointed at the cursed man in a black hood watching us. Even at this distance, the lack of life in his eyes made people walk around him, avoid him. “There is no going home.”

“You know I don’t believe that. My mom made a new home. She had a career in front and behind the camera. She had friends. She had people who loved her. You don’t have to follow in Carina’s footsteps, being lonely and sad.”

I tried to pull my arm from Gia’s, but she clamped down on it, refusing to let me go.

“Gia.”

“You know I’m right.”

The perky cheerleader from my past life stood toe-to-toe with me, a small muscle undulating along her jaw as she ground her teeth.

“I know everything I thought about Carina was wrong or misinterpreted. I know there are things you want me to acknowledge, emotions I have to feel.” I stomped my foot, wanting to take the stupid move back the minute it left my brain. “Carina keeps telling me to grieve, not stuff my emotions. I’ve done it. They’re gone, Sara and Steven, they’re dead . . . because of me. I accept that. Keeping a house or talking about what they meant to me isn’t going to make my future any better. The best thing I can do is leave the dead as food for the worms.” I started to leave, tears thickening in the back of my throat, but Gia wouldn’t let go that easy.

“You don’t get to steal the best line from Dead Poets Society and leave. You have to own your past, or you will repeat the mistakes. Here is where you own what happened. Here, where this all started, is where you come to terms with the fact that you’re not alone. You have us.”

“Ladies.” Olivia wrapped an arm around my waist; her eyes searched mine, looking for something. She’d probably had a talk with Carina, as well. They were all waiting for me to lose my shit and go Richter. Helen laced her fingers with mine. The chaos of Fremont Street dulled, the lights didn’t shine as bright, the noise muted—even the tourists seemed to slow down. In our own cocoon of silence, the four of us looked at each other, wondering what would happen next. What did the future hold for us?

“Great bonding exercise, Gia,” Olivia sassed. “Don’t pout, you’ll get used to my barbed love bites, but I gotta ask: why right now?”

Gia looked around our little group. “Because you can’t build a future on a foundation of lies.”

“I never lied,” I bit back.

“You did to yourself when you put your parents’ house on the market and said it didn’t matter,” Gia answered.

MY FRIDAY 56

Even so, the spell of seduction Hunt had woven over Powell still held:  Everything and everyone involved in the MicroCosmic deal would come out golden if Hunt’s scheme succeeded. Because Anthony Tiburon Hunt had gotten his hands on the invention of the century:  a superconducting microprocessor.

(page 56 in hardcover)

MY BOOK BEGINNINGS

The church was dark until John Fortunato struck the match. The point of light revealed rows of votive candles in red glass sleeves. John touched the match to a wick.

“God keep you Jamie Doolan,” he murmured.

GOODREADS SYNOPSIS

As a soldier in Vietnam, John Fortunato fought in the crushing darkness of the tunnels of Cu Chi, from which the Vietcong launched their deadliest operations. Back home in Elk River, Illinois, he secretly re-created those deadly tunnels. Partly a memorial, partly a kind of exorcism, they now lie hidden beneath the town’s peaceful streets.

But that peace shatters when Fortunato witnesses the brutal sidewalk shooting of an innocent victim. The vicious crime is only the first assault by a man who will wage a full-scale battle to control Elk River. And on the front line is John Fortunato, whose secret tunnels will provide the battleground for his own war. As his enemy is about to learn, when this veteran warrior goes down, he’s just beginning to fight.

Icy Passage by Ann Gimpel

Dream Shadow Press

110K words

Release Date: 2/29/16

Genre: Supernatural thriller romance

MY REVIEW

Icy Passage by Ann Gimpel is a paranormal, science fiction romance that I would recommend for adults. I find it funny that tourists travel there, buying kick knacks and such. I can think of so many other places I woud go, like a warm sandy beach with palm trees.

We start right out with trouble at the US base, McMurdo, in Antarctica. Micah’s study was running wild, causing two deaths. Archaea – pyro karyotes, microorganisms. You don’t need to know all the technical details to know something hinky is going on with them. Are they sentient? Help is on the way in the form of Brynn and Kayna.

Kayna is an MD, but she also has special abilities, paranormal abilities. She has a raven for a spirit guide. I love how she describes herself as a flaming bitch, saying what she thinks as she sees it. Her curt manner rubs people the wrong way at times. Sounds a bit like me.. LOL

Brynn’s getting on a ship with his archaea, leaving South Georgia Island, heading to McMurdo. Kayna is on the same ship, heading to the same place. What follows is predictable, but I am so happy to be on the journey with them anyway. I couldn’t help but chuckle when they first met. The immediate attraction goes both ways.

Kayna is strong, loyal and committed. Brynn is the hero, the knight in shining armor we would all want by our side in times of danger. He accepts on faith that there is more than meets the eye, conquering his fear, willing to fight to the death to save her. I love that Brynn is a supernatural fan, so he fits right in.

Her dead father has his own agenda and they will come to blows.

Chris is a great guy, flawed, but friendly, like the little puppy that follows you around, wanting to be your friend. He became a character that I admired and looked forward to seeing.

As if the archaea aren’t enough of a problem, World War III looms on the horizon. How far will the United States and Russia go to make their point?

Celtic and Chinese lore and mythology converge, creating a wonderful paranormal fantasy. An icy world, days without sun, WWIII and nuclear weapons, the Shama’s dragon spirit, magic, traveling between here and the Otherworld.

The writing makes this combination of genres read as if it could really happen. Even some of the less desirable peripheral characters step up to the plate when challenged. The romance is hot and steamy, loving as if there may be no tomorrow. Maybe it is more than their hearts and bodies talking to each other. Maybe it is their magic too.

If you think everything is connected, this book will make you a believer.

Check out Ann Gimpel’s bio. Could her camera contribute to her inspiration?

I received a copy of Icy Passage by Ann Gimpel in return for an honest review.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Tumble into the icy danger of Antarctica with a blazing hot romance. Mittens and fan required.

Book Description:

Fresh out of residency, Dr. Kayna Quan opts for a tour in Antarctica. Money is short, so she hires on as medical officer aboard a Russian research vessel headed for McMurdo Station. Primed for almost anything, she plays her paranormal ability close to the vest.

Stationed on remote South Georgia Island for two years, Brynn McMichaels is eager for a change. When cultures of the single-celled organism, archaea, overgrow their bins in his lab and begin shifting into another form, he worries he’s losing his mind and talks with scientists at McMurdo, but they have problems of their own—bad ones. Brynn agrees to help. The weather’s too uncertain to send a plane, so he hitches a ride aboard Kayna’s ship and brings his mutant culture colonies along.

Attraction sparks, urgent, hot and powerful, between Brynn and Kayna, but her disclosure about her magic is a tough nut to crack. It doesn’t help that her dead father is stalking her. Lethal cultures, bizarre illness, and McMurdo’s refusal to let them land force Brynn and Kayna into an uneasy alliance. Will their fragile bond be enough to thwart the powers trying to destroy Earth, and them along with it?

Excerpt from Icy Passage:

Chapter One

Micah Greenwich sucked air as he pushed up from his squat, a weight bar balanced across his shoulders. He did one more squat before a wave of dizziness threatened to bring him to his knees. Gasping, he shucked the bar onto pins protruding from the back of the squat rack and grabbed one of the metal stanchions for support. A headache pounded behind one eye, and he felt nauseous.

“What the fuck is wrong with me?” he muttered, still clinging to the metal cage shoved in a back corner of the gym at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. No one was in the gym. Not at this hour. Granted, the perpetual night for part of the year, followed by perpetual day, yielded some odd circadian rhythms, but Micah rarely had competition for any of the gym machines or weight equipment late at night.

He glanced at the weight plates balanced on the ends of the forty-five pound bar, thinking perhaps he’d misjudged and put too much weight on it, but that wasn’t the issue. He shrugged. Maybe he was getting sick. Something was going around. So far, he’d been lucky during his brief stint at the southern end of the Earth and had avoided the colds and flus McMurdo residents passed among themselves like candy.

He wiped sweat from his face with a ratty towel and decided to call it a night—at least for working out. He still needed to stop by his lab. Because he was the newest and greenest microbiologist, he’d been assigned archaea, the most ancient single-celled life form on the planet. His cultures had taken a decidedly odd turn, though, a couple of weeks back—growing like mad and not looking like any prokaryote he’d ever seen. While he might have started with archaea, what was in his bins didn’t look much like them anymore.

Another wave of nausea battered him, and he folded his arms around his midsection, wondering if he was going to vomit. Saliva flooded his mouth, but he choked it back. Even though he didn’t feel like doing anything beyond finding his bed, he left the gym and made his way three buildings over to his lab. McMurdo was a series of prefab buildings with interconnecting doors and insulated tunnel-walkways, so you didn’t have to go outside into the weather. Antarctica never got particularly warm, and nights were always bitter.

He glanced out a window at an inky sky shot with stars, and a reluctant smile split his face. It might be minus something outside, but it was beautiful too. He’d always loved wild, remote places, and Antarctica was about as wild and remote as it got—shy of signing up to be an astronaut, which was a long-standing dream of his.

Micah frowned, wondering if the astronaut gig was even possible. The United States had cut their funding for the space program rather dramatically. Besides, he needed more in the way of credentials to even be considered for something like that. With another swipe at his still sweaty face—the more he thought about it, the surer he was he was coming down with the flu—he pushed open the door to his lab and froze, not believing his eyes.

“Britta?” he called. “Marguerite!”

The women didn’t answer. They sprawled face down on the floor in front of his main workbench, clearly passed out. Wondering if they’d gotten into the high-grade, ethyl alcohol he used to preserve things, he called their names again, louder this time. The longer he looked at them, the weirder he felt. They were too still. Sudden fear gripped him, making the nausea worse.

“Jesus fucking Christ. Why me?” he muttered, and raced to the women. He bent, grabbed Britta’s shoulder, and shook her. When she didn’t respond, he flipped her over and stared at her cherry red face.

Fighting a deeply sinking feeling, he turned Marguerite over. She looked just like her friend and roommate. Micah squatted next to them and laid his fingers across their necks, searching for a pulse.

Nothing.

He placed his ear over their hearts, willing there to be something, anything, before he started CPR. Still nothing. He ground his teeth together, unnerved. How could there possibly be two dead women in his lab?

Even though he was pretty sure it wouldn’t do any good, he tilted Marguerite’s head back and breathed into her mouth before doing chest compressions. When he looked over at Britta, he understood he had to have help and lurched to his feet. Snapping up the wall phone, he punched in the after hours code for the clinic. As soon as one of the nurses answered, he screeched, “Send help now. Third micro lab.”

His headache worsened. So did his twisting, roiling guts, but he went back to the women. He didn’t need to be a doctor to recognize death. Despite the futility, he alternated CPR from one to the next. Five long minutes passed—but they felt like five years—before the door burst open.

“Christ!” One of the docs—Stewart maybe, Micah was too rattled to take a good look—pulled him off Marguerite. A tall, broad-shouldered woman Micah didn’t recognize examined Britta.

“Looks like carbon monoxide poisoning to me,” the female medic said flatly. “This one’s well past CPR.”

Dr. Stewart rocked back on his heels. “Yeah, her too.” He trained his blue eyes on Micah. “What happened?”

Micah shook his head. “Damned if I know. I just got here. I had dinner in the mess hall, worked out in the gym, and then I swung by here to check on my cultures.”

The woman narrowed her eyes and half-crawled to where Micah sat on the floor. She folded her fingers over his wrist and took him in with practiced hazel eyes. Her reddish hair was short, almost in a butch cut. She pressed her lips into a harsh line, frowning.

“I’m Ariana,” she said, letting go of his wrist. “One of the nurse practitioners. How have you been feeling?”

“Bad,” he admitted. “Think I finally succumbed to the community disease everyone else has.”

Dr. Stewart joined them and squatted next to Micah. He ran a hand down the side of Micah’s neck and listened to his chest with a stethoscope before exchanging a pointed glance with Ariana. “Where’s the CO meter in here?” he asked.

Micah gestured behind him. “On that wall.” He twisted to look at it, but the indicator light was green—safe. Maybe it was defective. His scientifically trained mind arranged informational bits into an unpleasant pattern. “The women,” he said. “If I’d been firing on all cylinders, I’d have figured it out as soon as I looked at the color of their faces. They died from carbon monoxide poisoning, didn’t they?”

“Probably.” Dr. Stewart said cautiously. “But it’s conjecture at this point.”

“That cherry red color is a dead giveaway,” Ariana said with conviction. “Nothing else will do that.”

“We’ll wait for an autopsy before we make statements like that.” The doctor eyed his colleague coolly.

“Yes, Doctor. Sir. King of all things medical.” She set her lips in a thin line, clearly biting back further sarcasm. “Meantime,” she ground out, “I’m pretty sure he—” she jabbed a finger at Micah “—has whatever killed these two.” She stood and punched numbers into the wall phone. “I’m calling security.”

Dr. Stewart sifted his hands through his untidy, blond hair. “Tell them to alert maintenance. Until we figure out what killed these two, we’ve got to get out of here. Now.”

Micah straightened. “Wait a minute,” he sputtered. “The meter says it’s safe. For all we know, Britta and Marguerite got poisoned elsewhere and just happened to be in here cleaning when they collapsed.”

Dr. Stewart got to his feet and hauled Micah upright. “For tonight, we’ll put you in the infirmary and run tests to check if your hemoglobin’s been compromised. I’ve got to alert the boss and talk with base security. We’ll to get to the bottom of this.”

“But my lab—”

Dr. Stewart made a chopping motion with one hand, and the rest of Micah’s protest died unspoken.

Ariana hung up the phone and nodded at Dr. Stewart. “You take care of the boss. I’ll deal with security and maintenance. Need to get the gas sniffer in here to make sure there’s not a leak.”

Micah tried to focus, but the room spun crazily. He really was wiped out. Much more tired than a thirty-year-old man had a right to feel.

“Can you walk?” Dr. Stewart nudged him.

Micah focused bleary eyes on the physician. “Yeah. I think so.”

“How are you feeling?” Ariana asked the doctor.

He shrugged. “Normal. But it takes time for exposure to take a toll. Micah probably lives in this lab, except when he’s asleep.”

“Yeah, but,” Micah pointed out, “those women didn’t. They clean all the science labs. Maybe one of the other ones is the problem.”

The doctor folded an arm around Micah’s waist supporting him, and led him out of the lab. “I’m on it. By the time you wake up, we’ll know more.”

Micah staggered through the door, flanked by Dr. Stewart and Ariana. “What are you going to do about the women?” he asked.

“You were there when I alerted base security. They’ll take care of them,” Ariana assured him. “For tonight, focus on getting well.”

* * * *

It hadn’t been just that night, though. Micah spent the next three days in the infirmary sucking bottled oxygen. When that didn’t clear his red blood cells fast enough, the doctors ordered chelation treatments. In the meantime, he had a chance to think, and he didn’t care for what he came up with. Besides, it was so fantastic, no one would believe him.

Maintenance had given his lab, and the other three microbiology studios, a clean bill of health, which meant he could go back to work tomorrow. Even more disturbing, the entirety of the science wing where the dead women cleaned showed zip in the way of evidence of a gas leak. In the interest of thoroughness, maintenance had checked the female dorms too, and found exactly nothing. Autopsy was conclusive regarding cause of death, but no one could figure out how the women had been exposed to a big enough dose of carbon monoxide to kill them.

The same was true for him—major exposure to something pigging up his hemoglobin, but without an identifiable source. Another few hours without medical intervention and he’d have been just as dead as Britta and Marguerite.

Armed with that knowledge—and a phalanx of unanswered questions—Micah spent his downtime in the infirmary mapping out a series of tests to run on his strange archaea colonies. He had suspicions, but needed facts before he presented them to Jack DeVoe, the man in charge of McMurdo operations. If he went to him now, Jack, who had a Ph.D. in biochemistry, would laugh him right out of his office. And there would go Micah’s hopes of earning his chops, so he could go on to something more prestigious than working at McMurdo Station.

Wordless Wednesday #10 is an opportunity to share your photos or photos you love.

What do you see?

This photo was from last weeks Wordless Wednesday.

Whale Stone

This is a small stone, less than 2″, I found while beachcombing at Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I thought it looked like a whale and I love it, so I brought it home and added it to my treasures on the mantle.

GUEST POST FROM P R GARCIA

EUROPA Awakenings in the first book in the EUROPA Series, a collection of six novels that addresses the question of “What happened to Atlantis?”  It is a new, fresh concept connecting the legendary city to *******’s ice moon, Europa and to the ancient city of Puma Punku in Bolivia, plus gives an explanation as to why the city was sunk overnight and what happened to the inhabitants.  (Hint:  They’re still here)

INSPIRATION FOR BOOK

EUROPA Awakenings came about as an inspiration while watching a documentary one uneventful day.  I am a big sci-fi fan and watch numerous shows about possible life on other planets and moons.  This particular day the documentary was discussing *******’s moon, Europa.  I had never heard of this moon and was completely enthralled.  She is totally shielded by a thick layer of ice and astrologists believe that beneath her ice there exists a moon-wide ocean that may contain simple life.  Immediately, I wondered why the life had to be simple?  Europa has been in existence almost as long as Earth has, so why couldn’t it contain complex-life?  Even sentient life?  And since it is a closed-environment, uninfluenced by anything in the universe, the possibilities could be endless.  That idea sparked the beginning of the Europa Series concept.  When I went to bed that night, my thoughts were still filled with the possibilities, thus causing me to dream about a race of intelligent beings, called Oonocks, who had to flee Europa and came to Earth – the Atlantians.  For the next few days the thoughts of Europa and the Atlantians filled my mind, as well as my dreams.  Unable to shake the thoughts, I sat down at my computer and began to type, hoping to possible write one book.   When EUROPA Awakenings was finished, I stopped typing, but the feeling that there was more of her story to be told plagued my thoughts.  I’m no working on book number ten.

Currently EUROPA Awakenings has a 4.5 star rating on Amazon and a 5 star rating on Goodreads.  (Which I consider very good since the Harry Potter Collection has a 4.5 star rating and the Star Wars Trilogy has a 4.6 rating.)  It received a 5 star Reader’s Favorite Rating.

A huge thanks to P R Garcia and I am very excited to share all her goodies with YOU, my readers.

MY REVIEW

I am AMAZED and BLOWN AWAY by the epic saga, Europa Awakenings by P R Garcia!

I was hooked from the beginning and putting down this almost 500 page novel was done with much reluctance, but my hands hurt from holding the book and my eyes are blurring, making the words almost unreadable. I read the book slower than normal, savoring the story unfolding page by page, experience by experience, good and bad, life and death and above all, love and sacrifice.

Atlantis was born from a need to hide…hide not just from their enemies, but us…humans. If aliens are watching us, walking among us, it would behoove them to be wary, secretive. I agree with P R Garcia’s writing, we humans kill what we fear.

Mermaids? No. Underwater creatures? Yes. Humans? Yes.

Europa has no idea she comes from Atlantis, from a alien race forced to leave their planet.

This is her journey of discovery.

The first threat comes from a source I figured out pretty quick. I pride myself on that. It also creates a great twist to the story.

I knew there would be a romance and I wondered where her boyfriend, Terrance would come from. Would he be alien or human? Does love conquer all? We shall see.

The characters are so much more than they seem, changing forms, sacrificing, always loving, doing their duty to protect…her. The characters and world building are complex and developed to such a point, I feel I am there, interacting with them. I feel their paralyzing terror, their need to protect at the cost of their own lives. I weep with those who mourn their fallen soldiers.

Of course, I love Europa and her soulmate, Terrance, a naive human that has no idea what he has stepped into, but goes all out just to be at her side. I don’t know if I can choose just one hero, but I love Jeanip. Loyalty and duty could be his middle name. With a protector such as Jeanip, I cannot help but feel they will survive, but will he?

As P R Garcia explains what happens when they return to the water to die, it makes me think of spreading a loved ones ashes on the water, allowing them to travel on.

Europa Awakenings contains so much action and adventure, the suspense and pacing so intense, the book is unputdownable.  Everywhere I look, there is another hint of danger. The sense of impending doom follows me through the pages. I know something is coming, I just don’t know when. More than once, P R Garcia caught me by surprise and I love that.

Europa Awakenings is a wonderful combination of the paranormal and supernatural, myth and folklore, fantasy and romance. P R Garcia took me to the depths of hell and brought me up to the light of the sun. I am at a loss for words to describe the elaborate and imaginative world and characters, on land and in water, that Pam has created. I am entranced, enthralled, amazed and astounded.

There will be much more of their story, but…for now…they are safe.

I am so happy that Book II is on its way!

I received a copy of Europa Awakenings by P R Garcia in return for an honest review.

ABOUT EUROPA AWAKENINGS

EUROPA Awakenings is the story of a young human who’s heard of Atlantis, but never given it much thought. All she knows is that she is going off to college and will, at last, be free of the strict security rules she must live by.  But her future is a delusion, her life a fabrication, a charade created to keep her from knowing the truth.  And what neither she nor her protectors know is that their family’s enemy has returned and is stalking her, waiting for his chance to end her life.

The day after her birthday, Europa’s perfect world is destroyed when JeffRa assassinates her mother, believing she was Europa. Seeking solace in her mother’s bedroom, Europa discovers an entrance to a secret attic where she finds picture of her parents hundreds of years old. But the most terrifying find is her mother’s diary. Inside, Queen Medaron wrote that Europa would be born human and never know who she really was. Unwavering in her attempt to learn the truth, she embarks on a journey of discovery, a journey of many dangers as JeffRa chases her, determined to personally end her life. Along the way, Europa will lose almost everyone and everything she loves, learn that shapeshifters are real and the powers of magical Orbs.  Somehow, through all of this, she must discover the truth of her past and awaken the queen inside her. To accomplish both, she has to learn and accept the true story of Atlantis, embrace the Oonock race and identify with what lies beneath the ice shield of Europa.

ABOUT P R GARCIA

When asked who I am, I usually tell people I am a not-too-grayed-haired old lady who, at the age of 61, was inspired to write a book.  The book turned into two, then three.  In three years I have written nine and am presently working on book ten.  All are full length novels, averaging 464 pages each.

In 2008, I moved from Michigan to Southern California.  Since I grew up along Lake Erie, I had a love for the water, so it wasn’t long before I could hear the ocean calling to me.  I began to volunteer on the whale watching boats as a naturalist through Birch Scripps Aquarium and the San Diego Natural History Museum.  It is there that I expanded my knowledge of cetaceans and other marine life, a knowledge and love I carried into the books.

MY DREAMS

To see my story play out on the big screen before I leave this world.  My other dream is to receive at least one hundred reviews on the books.  I welcome both favorable reviews and those with criticism.

For more information about the books, or me, visit my website:  prgarcia1.com.  There is an index on the web site showing the characters, as well as a listing of places and Oonock terms.   I have a YouTube video on EUROPA Awakenings at https://youtu.be/EvSVloULZ2I

I just recently updated the cover of EUROPA Awakenings to better reflect the story.  The cover now shows the red-haired Europa, with her sanctuary, Saint’s Isle, on the right had side, and the presence of large whale’s tail on the left.  The whale is key to her survival, but you’ll have to read the story to find out who he is.  The first chapter was also updated, so you will note that the paperback holds a release date of 2-27-2016, while the eBook maintains the original 12-9-2013 date.  They are both the same book.  Due to the significant changes in Chapter One, the paperback required a new ISB Number and a new release date.

EUROPA Awakenings can be ordered through any bookstore or online on Amazon.  For exciting news about the ocean, cetaceans or important environmental issues, you can follow my Facebook page Europa Awakenings, which is just shy of 1300 likes.

Check out her website here.

GOODREADS BLURB

Homicide Detective Sami Rizzo is at it again! She never dreamed “America’s Finest City,” would be tormented by yet another serial killer, but for the third time in the last five years a depraved maniac is stalking the streets of San Diego. Based on her qualifications and prior successes dealing with multiple murders, who else would Captain Davison assign to head the investigation? Different from Sami’s past experiences, this fanatic is like no other. His methods of killing defy everything profilers think they know about serial killers. As an intense investigation begins and bits and pieces of evidence emerge, no one can understand his motivation. He’s merciful, yet brutal. And just to make things even more confusing, all of his victims are blood-related. Is he settling a vendetta? Did he randomly pick a name out of the phone book and begin a rampage? Or is there a deeper story? Based on very little evidence and a lot of gut instincts, Detective Rizzo pieces together a complex puzzle and narrows the field of possible suspects. She learns that the killings may connect in some way to powerful people within the judicial system and doesn’t know who to trust. Ultimately, she comes face to face with the killer for a battle of brain and brawn. Can she outwit the shrewd killer, or will she be his next victim?

MY REVIEW

Tainted Reality by Ashley Fontainne is Book II of The Rememdum Series. The books need to be read in order and Tainted Reality picks up where Tainted Cure left off. This is one horror story that will have you wondering….could this really happen?

Everett Berning had found the cure for addiction, but the cure had become Tainted with a fatal result. Some preach the end of the world by global warming and nuclear detonation, but no one had anticipated this…Apocalypse.

Who will survive? Can they find a cure for the Tainted Cure or will this be a new world that mankind will have to learn to traverse?

I love this saying:  Courage is being afraid but doing it anyway.

“Normal” people’s actions will go above and beyond the horror that is worse than their wildest imagination could concoct. In a time of crises, people show what they are made of, their true character shines through.  Some are leaders, some are followers. Some are able to overcome their fears, others are cattle, either saved or lead to slaughter. Which are you?

And the government…What happens when it collapses? What happens when the leaders are dead or missing and presumed dead…communications nonexistent.

The world has ended, at least any world you would recognize. The dead come to life and they want YOU!

Executions, murder, slaughter…See who rises to the top, leads when in doubt, shoots to kill.

As a read along, I am always trying to put myself in the characters place. What would I do? Would I step up to the plate or collapse, paralyzed by terror. What would you do?

I felt for the characters as they struggled to survive. I felt their sorrow and determination. Is there anybody left who can figure out the answers?

Regina and Jesse, a mom and daughter, will step up in a big way. They stand out as exceptional characters to me and I had to mention them…specifically.

Ashley Fontainne’s books I have read are unique, fast paced and anything but predictable. I was a bit disappointed as I read along…because it is predictable. After all, how many variations can there be to a zombie story?

BUT, Ashley Fontainne’s fantastic writing of such bloody and gruesome savagery, with twists and turns of the plot, filled with love and sacrifice among the horror and conspiracy, makes the predictable work all too well. It’s a new world and the more I read, the more involved I become with the complex characters. Her writing is at such a high level that even the predictable is a cut above the rest.

Now…the wait begins for Tainted Future, Book III of The Rememdum Series.

I received a copy of Tainted Reality by Ashley Fontainne in returne for an honest review.

ABOUT ASHLEY FONTAINNE (from her website)

Award-winning and International bestselling author Ashley Fontainne is an avid reader of mostly the classics. Ashley became a fan of the written word in her youth, starting with the Nancy Drew mystery series. Stories that immerse the reader deep into the human psyche and the monsters that lurk within us are her favorite reads.

Her muse for penning the Eviscerating the Snake series was The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. Ashley’s love for this book is what sparked her desire to write her debut novel, Accountable to None, the first book in the trilogy. With a modern setting to the tale, Ashley delves into just what lengths a person is willing to go when they seek personal justice for heinous acts perpetrated upon them. The second novel in the series, Zero Balance. focuses on the cost and reciprocal cycle that obtaining revenge has on the seeker. For once the cycle starts, where does it end? How far will the tendrils of revenge expand? Adjusting Journal Entries answered that question: far and wide.

Her short thriller entitled Number Seventy-Five, touches upon the sometimes dangerous world of online dating. Number Seventy-Five took home the BRONZE medal in fiction/suspense at the 2013 Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards contest and is currently in production for a feature film.

Her paranormal thriller entitled The Lie, won the GOLD medal in the 2013 Illumination Book Awards for fiction/suspense and is also in production for a feature film entitled Foreseen.

Ashley’s decided to delve into the paranormal with a Southern Gothic horror/suspense novel, Growl, which released in January of 2015. The suspenseful mystery Empty Shell, released in September of 2014. Ashley will be teaming up with Lillian Hansen (Ashley calls her mom!) to pen a three-part murder mystery/suspense series entitled The Magnolia Series. The first book, Blood Ties, is due out the Summer of 2015.

Ashley also hosts The WriteStuff, a popular BlogTalk Radio show, each Friday night at 10 p.m. CST.
