Renegades (Renegades, #1)

Amazon / Audio / Goodreads

MY 56

That girl had a bunch of low tech gadgets and a power that only worked through skin-to-skin contact. How had she beaten him?

Pulling the marker from the back pocket of his jeans, he sketched a water faucet on the rooftop’s concrete ledge and pulled the drawing into three dimensions. With a twist of the knob, cool water gushed forward.

BOOK BEGINNINGS

We were all villains in the beginning.

GOODREAD BLURB

Secret Identities. Extraordinary Powers. She wants vengeance. He wants justice.

The Renegades are a syndicate of prodigies — humans with extraordinary abilities — who emerged from the ruins of a crumbled society and established peace and order where chaos reigned. As champions of justice, they remain a symbol of hope and courage to everyone… except the villains they once overthrew.

Nova has a reason to hate the Renegades, and she is on a mission for vengeance. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice — and in Nova. But Nova’s allegiance is to a villain who has the power to end them both.

Ghosts Never Say Die – End of Day by Mae Clair @MaeClair1

.

Mae Clair can spin a tale and I am happy to read another story, End of Day, in the Hode’s Hill series. Look at that beautifully creepy and ominous cover. Don’t ya just love it?

Cover by: Kensington Publishing

End of Day by Mae Clair is up for preorder and will be published on 1.15.19.

End of Day (Hode's Hill, #2)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

End of Day by Mae Clair is Book Ii of the Hode’s Hill series. It is told from two points of view, jumping from the past to the present, keeping the mystery from both perspectives alive throughout the story.

Gabriel Vane, an emerald, and…death.

Gabriel’s death…it is so terrifyingly horrific that it gave me the shivers and had the hair on my arms and the back of my neck standing up. Mae Clair does a wonderful job of showing, not telling, as the words bring the scene to life and I couldn’t help but picture it in my mind’s eye.

Jillian Cley is an empath and that explains why she is a loner. She works for herself, designing websites. She has Maya, her one and only friend, and Blizzard, her therapy dog. I love having critters added to stories, especially dogs. It adds a ittle something extra that I like to see authors do.

Her family is responsible for the upkeep of the grave of Gabriel Vane at Hickory Chapel Cemetery. The grave has been disturbed, but they cannot allow him to die…again, the Third Death.

Elliot, her neighbor and newfound friend is going to become super important to her and she to him.

Sherree had never gotten over Boyd, her boyfriend who was murdered and she never quit looking for the secrets locked in Madison’s head. Since Gabriel Vane’s bones had been disinterred, people are dropping like flies. No two deaths are the same, no pattern. she finds a friend in Dante. She doesn’t need to convince him of anything, he already knows.

Monsters are real in Mae Clair’s world. We will definitely see them raise their ugly heads.

For whom does the bell toll? If you hear it, it tolls for you…or someone close to you.

There is a subtle hint of malice throughout the entire book. I have a feeling of doom. When will it happen? How will it happen? Who will survive the meeting?

There is an introduction to Book III, but I am not going there. It will make me agonize over the wait.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of End of Day by Mae Clair.

GOODREADS BLURB

The past is never truly buried…

Generations of Jillian Cley’s family have been tasked with a strange duty—tending the burial plot of Gabriel Vane, whose body was the first to be interred in the Hode’s Hill cemetery. Jillian faithfully continues the long-standing tradition—until one October night, Vane’s body is stolen from its resting place. Is it a Halloween prank? Or something more sinister?

As the descendants of those buried in the church yard begin to experience bizarre “accidents,” Jillian tries to uncover the cause. Deeply empathic, she does not make friends easily, or lightly. But to fend off the terror taking over her town, she must join forces with artist Dante DeLuca, whose sensitivity to the spirit world has been both a blessing and a curse. The two soon realize Jillian’s murky family history is entwined with a tragic legacy tracing back to the founding of Hode’s Hill. To set matters right, an ancient wrong must be avenged…or Jillian, Dante, and everyone in town will forever be at the mercy of a vengeful spirit.

Monday Mini Review The Life and Lessons of a Young Author Sunayna Prasad #SunaynaPrasad

The Life and Lessons of a Young Author

Amazon  /  Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I debated long and hard about the rating for The Life Lessons of a Young Author by Sunayna Prasad. She does share some helpful tips on writing and publishing and it is written in a simple language. Short and to the point. I did sense her disappointment when it came to results, whether it was through reviews or through publishers. I know writers work very hard , BUT..

It seems like she won’t take her own advice. The book is short and pretty simple, yet I was disappointed with the grammatical errors and the whole thing felt like it was thrown together just to have a book.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of The Life Lessons of a Young Author by Sunayna Prasad.

Sherry’s Shelves #178 is my weekly update from 12.30.18 – 1.5.19.

Hello Fellow Bloggers. Well, the holidays are over and I am still packing up the Christmas decorations, finishing up painting the shed (which Mr Wonderful has done most of and that is only one of the reasons why he is Mr Wonderful), sucking leaves out of the pool when it isn’t raining (which it has done entirely too much, but the sun is shining today and they say we will have sun for the weekend) and I hope to do some yard cleanup. There are a lot of those pesky little oak tree branches that seem to be a never ending problem. The weather has been warm, not like last year. I remember being in New Orleans for the 2018 New Years celebration and the wind chill was -35. This year I was on the golf course for New Years Day and it was in the 70s. BUT, there is no such thing as global warming or climate change here in Florida. LOL

I don’t know about you, but I have upgraded to the new WordPress and am tearing my hair out. LOL I accidentally hit the button, but I figure, sooner or later, they will make us upgrade anyway. There are a lot of cool features I am figuring out, but I hate the learning curve. How about you…did you click that button too?

I hope you all enjoyed the holidays are have a wonderful new year filled with fun, family and a lot of good books.

I read Heaven Enough, Book I (see my review HERE) some time ago and loved it, so I am very excited to share the cover for Ken La Salle’s new sequel, Heaven Denied.

 Amazon  /  Goodreads

MY 56 is the first paragraph, since I don’t have the book…yet.

In the remains of a bedroom down in the seaside town of Ocean Beach, California, a broken man bolted out of a nightmare and returned to his life.

(published in 2018)

GOODREADS BLURB

What would it be like to have heaven enough?

For just a few, brief days on the Pacific Crest Trail, Matt Murphy knew. He fell in love, faced his true self, and came to understand what was really important in life – until the woman he fell in love with died and his life was cast into the chaotic emptiness of grief. Within that emptiness, Matt lost his wealth, his job, and everything that helped his life make sense.

Matt believed he could accept that if it really was the price of true love… Until he learned that the woman he loved had already been married.

Where that left him and what it meant for the love he thought they shared, Matt couldn’t know. His only recourse would be to meet the man who had married his love and understand what that love had meant to him. How could he have lost her? How could he have pushed her aside? How could he have given her up when losing her broke so much of what was left of Matt’s heart?

Matt is going to have to find out. Even if it means blundering through another relationship, driving into a lake, just a bit of kidnapping, and possibly facing the kind of man he really is, was, and always will be.

The results of which could change Matt’s life forever…
