Sherry’s Shelves #180 – Binging on Some Movies on the Lifetime Channel #Movies

.

Sherry’s Shelves #178 is my weekly update from 1.20.19 – 1.26.19.

~~~
Hello fellow bloggies. We have had some rain off and on and some colder weather, but right now the sun is shining and it’s in the 60s. I am already thinking of spring, getting a jump on the household spring cleaning. I am binging on movies, with lots of smiles and a few tears. August Rush was the first movie and if you have never seen it, I will tell you that I loved it. My rating – 4 Stars. A young boy was given up for adoption and ends up on the streets. He is a musical prodigy and believes he will find his parents through music. Music speaks to me, as I am sure it does to a lot of us. After watching this, the ‘noise’ around me won’t be the same. And…yes…there were some tears in my eyes, even though I knew the ending.
Now, I’m watching Me Before You. I love the young woman, Emilia Clarke. She is so sweet, spunky, and cute as hell. I feel I know what’s coming, but I can hardly wait to find out. Me Before You has the highest highs and lowest lows. I feel like Jojo Moyes ripped my heart out and stomped on it. 5 Stars for this brilliant and surprising, for me, movie!
What about you? Seen any good movies lately?
One Sentence Review – Wings of Mayhem by Sue Coletta @SueColetta1
.
I have read several books by Sue Coletta and she gave me Wings of Mayhem just because. I love serial killers…well, books about serial killers….and Sue kept me enthralled in the first book of The Mayhem Series.
Let’s take a look, shall we?
Starting out with a fabulous cover by Elle Rossi of EJD Designs, is always a good sign.
Publisher: Tirgearr Publishing
MY ONE SENTENCE REVIEW
A cat burglar, a cop, and a serial killer meet up in this brutal tale of love, loss and revenge that held me spellbound until the end.
Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos
4 Stars
GOODREADS BLURB
Shawnee Daniels — cybercrimes specialist by day, cat burglar by night — ignites the hellfire fury of a serial killer when she unknowingly steals his trophy box.
A SERIAL KILLER STALKS THE STREETS…
Cat burglar Shawnee Daniels always believed her “fearlessness rules” mantra would keep her on top and out of jail. When she hacks a confiscated hard drive at the Revere P.D., she focuses on a white-collar criminal accused of embezzlement. To teach him a lesson and recoup the funds she breaks into his massive contemporary in Bear Clave Estates. Jack has even more secrets, deadly secrets, secrets worth killing over.
A CAT BURGLAR PICKS THE WRONG HOUSE TO ROB…
Shawnee thinks she made it out clean until a deadly package arrives at her door soon after. He’s found her. As a glowing eagle taunts her Skype screen, Jack tells her she stole his precious trophy box — and he wants it back!
THEIR LIVES COLLIDE…
When her “helpful” best friend convinces her to date charismatic Detective Levaughn Samuels, her two worlds threaten to implode. Ordinarily Shawnee keeps a firm line between her professions, but dating Levaughn might help her get this psycho off her tail.
AND NOW, NO ONE IS SAFE…
In this lightning-fast-paced psychological thriller of secrets and lies, Shawnee juggles being stalked by a serial killer, dating the lead detective on the case, and tap dancing around her librarian best friend.
If she doesn’t find the trophy box, the killer’s coming for her. If she doesn’t expose her secrets and lies, more will die. And if she does, she could lose her freedom and everyone she holds dear.
If you’re a fan of Lisa Jackson, Rachel Abbott, Karin Slaughter thrillers, crime fiction with an edge, or psychological thrillers, mystery, and suspense, then Wings of Mayhem is for you.
Praise for Sue Coletta’s novels…
“The heart-stopping descriptions are so jarringly real that there are several scenes I will never forget.” ~ Eliza Cross, Award Winning Author
“Sue Coletta isn’t going to spare you the gory details or an honest look behind the crime scene tape. She’s a well versed author in all things crime who indelicately dumps you into the middle of a life which has been disrupted, disturbed, and marred by the evil acts of a solitary man.” ~ Beaux Cooper, Author and Amazon Reviewer
“Sue Coletta’s writing style is bold. It’s riveting.”
BOOK BEGINNINGS
All these people were seriously starting to tick me off. They never shut up. It was a constant chatter that formed the soundtrack to my pointless, miserable life.
GOODREADS BLURB
Giveaway & Review – Las Vegas Crime by Leslie Wolfe @WolfeNovels @SDSXXTours
.
MY REVIEW
I am lovin’ the Baxter and Holt detective series and definitely want more of them!
Snowman…but not one you ever want to meet
Baxter and Holt are partners, but not matter how hard Laura tries, she can’t keep her hands off of Jack and awakes with him…in her bed. Then the phone rings.
‘They’ had her…Meredith, Holt’s daughter. Is it payback for the sins of the father?
Snowman is a big time drug dealer looking to expand his business. Holt knew it was him.
I can hardly wait to ride shotgun in another breathtaking mystery filled with danger and suspense.
Jen, his wife, is a class A BITCH.
Alyssa…OMG…the horror humans are capable of rears its ugly head.
The girls…they are playing a frightening, dangerous game.
Young girls, sex trafficking and all the horrors that entails make me livid, my skin crawls…
Another top notch, gut wrenching, white knuckled thriller by Leslie Wolfe. I love Laura Baxter, an in your face, I’ll do it my way and you’ll like it woman. And Holt, her partner…two peas in a pod. Bring it on!
Las Vegas Crime
Baxter and Holt Book 3
by Leslie Wolfe
Genre: Crime Suspense Thriller
Simply love Leslie Wolfe! The Baxter-Holt series is one of the best in the genre! This was a great story that kept me on the edge
of my seat the entire time. Cannot wait until the next one, Las Vegas Crime, coming in November. Keep writing them, Leslie!”
Detectives Laura Baxter and Jack Holt are members of the elite: Las Vegas Metro PD, one of the toughest and most respected law enforcement agencies in the United States. In the middle of a city with two million residents and 43 million annual visitors, they’re searching for a missing girl and the ruthless killers who snatched her.
The girl: gone
When a teenage girl is daringly kidnapped from her school, minutes after being dropped off, a frenzied search begins, involving the entire police force of a city that never sleeps. But for Detectives Baxter and Holt this isn’t a crime like any other; it is personal.
The crimes: terrifying
A bold and merciless serial killer preys on young girls and leaves them out to die in the cold and dreadful expanse of the Mojave Desert, unable to move, to scream, to fight for their lives.
The choice: impossible
Now Detective Holt is faced with an agonizing decision: he can sacrifice all that he holds dear or jeopardize the life of an innocent girl, his own flesh and blood. The man holding all the cards in this game of life and death isn’t willing to negotiate; he’s only willing to kill.
In Las Vegas, few things end well.
Two mavericks form an intriguing team. Baxter and Holt trust each other with their lives, just not with their secret plans.
Leslie Wolfe is a bestselling author whose novels break the mold of traditional thrillers. She creates unforgettable, brilliant, strong women heroes who deliver fast-paced, satisfying suspense, backed up by extensive background research in technology and psychology.
Leslie released the first novel, Executive, in October 2011. It was very well received, including inquiries from Hollywood. Since then, Leslie published numerous novels and enjoyed growing success and recognition in the marketplace. Among Leslie’s most notable works, The Watson Girl (2017) was recognized for offering a unique insight into the mind of a serial killer and a rarely seen first person account of his actions, in a dramatic and intense procedural thriller.
EEK! It’s A Spider – What Hides Within by Jason Parent @AuthorJasParent
Jason Parent writes some scary stuff, just look at the cover for What Hides Within and you will see what I mean. Does it make you want to know want to know more? It does me.
Cover by Q Design
Publisher: Bloodshot Books
What Hides Within
Amazon / Goodreads
MY REVIEW
Just looking at the creepy cover makes me cringe, yet I open it with sweet anticipation, looking forward to a great scare with same laughs, which I know Jason Parent is more than willing to provide.
With a name like Clive, I foresee some bad things coming his way. Will he be the victim or the perpetrator? We shall see.
The doctor cut open his head to remove…something…only to find everything is okay. He stitched him back up, offered an apology, and wanted him to go away. I’m sorry, but that wouldn’t work for me, and I don’t think it will work for Clive either. OMG! The nerve of the idiot moron doctor! If I was Clive, I probably would have killed him on the spot.
That is the present…NOW…let’s go to the past and find out how and why he got into this spot to begin with.
Detective Samantha Reilly was a hardened detective leading the investigation into a young girl’s death. She was inured to the brutality humans inflicted upon each other. Knowing Jason, I see more dead bodies on the horizon and a truly evil killer.
As soon as we went under the bridge, I knew where Jason was taking me. Now, I’m waiting for the twist.
Chester and Derek…OMG…I laughed so hard I cried. I love that Jason Parent packs so much action, along with the darkness and laughs, leaving me wanting more.
Chester, I wonder what’s going to happen to Chester. Every time I think about him, I try to imagine the details of his home, how and what he eats, and his dining accommodations. I wonder what Chester hopes to accomplish.
I shivered and freaked out a little. Spiders are one of my favorite critters to read about because they make me so uncomfortable. Talk about stepping outside my comfort zone.
Well, that didn’t go the way I thought and that is one of the reasons I love Jason Parent’s writing. He mixes genres seamlessly, dark horror and comedy with lots of action, and creates some amazing villains. Can’t hear so well? Have a stuffy nose? Well…
Jason, you did it again. Took me to a place filled with suspense and tension and a pace that kept me reading, wanting to know what was on the next page, and the next one…
I can hardly wait to get my hands on Victoria, Book II and the final book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of What Hides Within by Jason Parent.
GOODREADS BLURB
An award-winning horror/mystery with loads of dark comedy!
Inside all of us, there is darkness. Inside Clive, it’s tangible, and it’s aching to get out.
What Hides Within tells the story of a man held captive by an unknown evil. Clive Menard is a spineless slacker leading an ordinary existence. But when Chester enters his life, it becomes far from ordinary.
A disheveled Clive stands alone in a hospital waiting room. A series of incidences have led him to undergo unnecessary neurosurgery. A voice inside Clive’s head nags him to kill the doctor.
Weeks prior, a murder investigation and an unrelated kayaking excursion set the story’s interlocking events in motion. When a remorseful killer, a bomb-happy psychopath and a mysterious widow spider converge upon Clive, they bring with them destruction and death. Clive must discover who or what is steering his very existence before he, too, is consumed by the carnage around him.
With a driven detective following his every step and a vicious killer hiding within his circle of friends, Clive must walk a narrow and dangerous path, teetering between salvation and damnation. He must confront Chester and his own demons. But is he powerless to overcome them?
An EPIC Finalist, “Best Horror of 2013” read and eFestival eBook Award Runner-Up for Best Horror.
ABOUT JASON PARENT
Jason Parent
In his head, Jason Parent lives in many places, but in the real world, he calls New England his home. The region offers an abundance of settings for his writing and many wonderful places in which to write them. He currently resides in Southeastern Massachusetts with his cuddly corgi named Calypso.
In a prior life, Jason spent most of his time in front of a judge . . . as a civil litigator. When he finally tired of Latin phrases no one knew how to pronounce and explaining to people that real lawsuits are not started, tried and finalized within the 60-minute timeframe they see on TV (it’s harassing the witness; no one throws vicious woodland creatures at them), he traded in his cheap suits for flip flops and designer stubble. The flops got repossessed the next day, and he’s back in the legal field . . . sorta. But that’s another story.
When he’s not working, Jason likes to kayak, catch a movie, travel any place that will let him enter, and play just about any sport (except that ball tied to the pole thing where you basically just whack the ball until it twists into a knot or takes somebody’s head off – he misses the appeal). And read and write, of course. He does that too sometimes.
Nightlight Poetry: Spine-Tingling Lines and Rhymes
MY TEASE AND ONE SENTENCE REVIEW
Entombed and 5 Deadly Senses are my favorites of Anthony Renfro’s poetry that is filled with thrills, chills, and fear in haikus and poetry that had me jumping at shadows and wanting to scream, and made me think twice about walking outside…in the dark…or snuggling up in bed.
Sherry’s Shelves #179 – Brisk Yet Sunny Here In Florida
.
Sherry’s Shelves #178 is my weekly update from 1.6.19 – 1.12.19.
~~~

Hello fellow bloggers. How’s it shaking in your neck of the woods? We had two great days early in the week, so I picked up the debris in the front yard, sucked leaves out of the pool and messed around outside. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t hold. It is still sunny but barely gets into the fifties. Still…better than shoveling snow and scraping car windows.

I have a few reviews to catch up on from the holidays and then it will be business as usual, sorta. I’m wanting to do different kinds of posts, so I am checking out a lot of blogs looking for ideas and still learning the new WordPress crap stuff. One thing I miss that I haven’t figured out is how to do rows of books like I used to. They don’t want to stay side by side, but below each other, like the above meme banners that used to be side by side. I wanted to experiment with posts the old way, so now it makes more sense. I do like clean and simple, for the most part. I want to grab four of my own photos for the headers. We are having trouble with our office computer, so scanning photos has been put on hold. I have hundreds, maybe thousands of pics to scan before they fade. It seems like, with technology, it’s always something, but I am much more patient than I used to be. Why sweat the small stuff? It’s not like it will change anything. LOL

Have a great week and I’ll be seeing you in cyberspace.
