I saw the movie Eddie and the Cruisers and learned about On The Dark Side. Great movie and song. Eddie and the Cruisers is a 1983 American film directed by Martin Davidson based on the novel by P. F. Kluge. I never knew until just now that the movie was based on a book. Have to check that out. Loved the movie and love the music

  1. Man, does this bring back the high school memories. I had a friend who was OBSESSED with this movie. To this day I still imagine the MC singing it rather than The Beaver Brown Band. Thanks for the memories!

    • i still imagine the mc singing it too. i LOVED the movie. my pleasure to bring back some great memories

  2. OMG! I watched this movie so many times, when I was teen. It was so good. (I saw the second one too)

    • oh…there was a second one? why didn’t i know that, because i watched this one over and over too. thanks for letting me know. i’ll have to check that out

  3. You have seriously NO IDEA how happy this post made me. From the time I was very young (probably about 5 or so, I was born in 1983), Eddie and the Cruisers was my favorite movie. I made everyone watch it whenever company came over, and I probably watched it every day for like, years. I still love it. I loved the music and to dance and it made my little heart so happy. My daughter first watched it when she was around five (she is six and a half now) and she also loves it. I have not let her watch the second one yet, as it is not as much about the music, and is a little more adult, but no joke, both cds are in the car right now, and the soundtrack for the second movie is what we listened to tonight on the way home from dance. I wanted to marry Eddie Wilson when I was little. I was kind of a weirdo I guess, seeing as how I was, well, five.

    • nah…not a weirdo. i thought he was pretty hot too. lol some music seems to stick with us forever. it makes me want to get up and dance too. thanks for the fabulous comment and i’m happy that you’re happyl 🙂

  4. Also, I did not know for so long it was based on a book either, until I first showed Eleanor the movie and I saw the credits. I bought the book last year and I was so worried that my Eddie would not be the real Eddie, because obviously Book Eddie came first. But he is there, and I was both happy and sad. So many lines from the movie are directly from the book, it was very comforting. Here is my review if you feel like reading up on it before diving in! There is a spoiler though, and the book is much more a mystery/thriller than the movie.

    • the music can be a bit dark and sad, but it doesn’t make me feel that way. i want to tap my feet and sing along
