Review – Divided States by Bob Thomas #bobthomas #dividedstates

Amazon / Goodreads

How bad would things have to be for you to want to secede from the union?

The Divided States novel by Bob Thomas supplies food for thought.

David Evans didn’t have a political bone in his body. He was only at the New Year’s Eve event because he could run the audio visual equipment. But, he was the face that was seen when chaos ensued, when states decided they didn’t want to be a part of the United States any more. They wanted their independence, able to choose their own government, their own laws.

A reporter, Jen O’Neil comes knocking at his door, wanting to know more about him. Of course, it’s easy to figure out that a romance may blossom between them.

It makes me wonder, how big is too big? Do individuals get lost in the shuffle and politicians have their own agendas, forgetting who they work for?

I found Divided States by Bob Thomas to be fascinating. It sure is a different way of looking at our government and the current leaders. I remember when the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was dissolved and states broke away, becoming their own countries, in 1991. Why could it not happen to us? Just food for thought.

My thanks to Bob Thomas for the opportunity to read and review Divided States.

EMPIRES RISE AND FALL…

What if you lived in a country with an overly restrictive government that used technology to suppress individual freedoms?

When David Evans agreed to help with the technical details of staging a New Year’s Eve event in the small city of Penndelom, PA, he could never have imagined what their fireworks would set off.

Suddenly, David’s world erupts into chaos as the United States breaks into new geographic regions. Is this new found order better than the old?

Together with new-found ally, confident, and more – Jen O’Neil, they work with a charismatic governor, to survive several events that mark the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one.

Creepalicious – Review – Creep by Kevin Bachar@KevinPangolin #creep

Amazon / Goodreads

Creep by Kevn Bachar is 21 short stories of horror that are based on things in our every day lives. Things like a man that steals a package from someone’s doorstep, a story that will make you think twice about sitting on a toilet, global warning, a green thumb, and so many more. I was drawn into from the opening words Drip, Drip, swish, swish. Does that WHET your appetite? The book is filled with plenty of cringe worthy moments, sure to add a giant T to terror.

Thanks Kevin, for the opportunity to share my thoughts on Creep: 21 Tales Of Terror.

Review – Oath Of Blood And Joy by M Guida #mguida #oathofbloodandjoy

plan
changed
mistake

Amazon / KindleUnlimited / Goodreads

I am so happy I am following M Guida, because she put out a call for ARC readers for Cry Of Blood And Joy. I jumped all over it…because, I love vampires! Seeing it’s Book II in the series, I had to see about Book I, Oath Of Blood And Joy. It was on sale for $.99. Yeah.

I love books that take place in familiar places and I have spent a lot of time in New Orleans. Sorry to say, I haven’t run across any supernatural creatures…yet. I do have my fingers crossed.

Girls are going missing in New Orleans and when Joy’s best friend, Stephanie was kidnapped, she made it her personal mission to find her. Unfortunately, during the process, she, herself, was kidnapped. Enzo is the vampire mafia’s most feared enforcer and he knows he has to save her. She doesn’t realize why, but he will burn everything down if he must.

For Joy I would burn the world to ashes.

The vivid, detailed descriptions had shivers crawling up and down my spine. The battles were ferocious and bloody and I loved it, but we do have moments of light and laughter. We have all kinds of creatures: vampires, dark demons, golden demons, werewolves, nephilim, angels, unseelie, dark fae….

I love everything about Oath Of Blood And Joy. I was so engrossed, I zipped through the pages. Before I knew it, I reached the end. There is a bit of a cliffhanger, but it was a good stoppping place. I’m not sweating it, because I have Book II, Cry Of Blood And Joy at hand.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos
4 Stars

Missing girls in New Orleans have one they’re never found alive. I’m about to join their ranks. Unless the vampire enforcer tracking me can shatter every rule—and every precedent. My name is Joy, and I’ve always lived up to it—smiling through problems, finding silver linings, believing tomorrow will be better. But over a month ago, my optimism met its match when I was kidnapped while searching for my missing best friend.

Now I’m a prisoner of New Orleans’ most dangerous crime lord, thrust into a world I never knew existed. Vampires are real. Vampire mafia? Also real. And something is stirring inside me—a power I can’t explain that’s the only reason I’m still alive.

They say he’s coming for me. Enzo. The vampire mafia’s most feared enforcer. Cold. Ruthless. Merciless. The man leaves a trail of bodies wherever he goes. The whispers about him terrify even my captors.

But when his dark eyes find mine in the chaos of my prison, I see something impossible. Recognition. Possession. As if I belong to him. As if I’ve always belonged to him.

I don’t know this vampire. Don’t trust him. And I absolutely refuse to accept his ridiculous claim that I’m his “fated mate”—whatever that means. I didn’t even believe vampires existed, and now this terrifying man with perpetually furrowed brows thinks he owns me? I’ve spent weeks fighting my captors at every turn—I’m not about to stop now.

But when his cold eyes find mine, something deep inside me responds. No matter how loudly I tell myself this brooding, dangerous creature is my enemy, my stubborn heart won’t listen. And as my mysterious powers grow stronger, I’m running out of options for allies in a world I never knew was real.

The human mafia won’t let me go without bloodshed. And as ancient power awakens within me, I find myself caught between two worlds with ties to both.

My captor thinks I’m leverage. My would-be savior thinks I’m his. But neither of them knows what I’m becoming—or how my relentless optimism and newfound power might be the most dangerous weapon of all.

Oath of Blood and Joy is a steamy enemies-to-lovers vampire mafia romance featuring a joyful but fierce heroine and a gorgeous, grumpy vampire enforcer. Get ready for intense action, mind blowing plot twists, sizzling forbidden romance, and dark supernatural fireworks that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

GC & Review – Above The Clouds by Tim Vee @_Tim_Vee_ @goddessfish #abovetheclouds

ABOVE THE CLOUDS by Tim Vee

GENRE:  post-apocalypse, dystopian, sci-fi, horror

Tim Vee writes some interesting stories, and Above The Clouds had me intrigued. This unique apocalyptic/dystopian novel takes place deep underground, in long unused subway tunnels and sewers. No one knows what came before .

Everyone has their duties to perform, whether it’s raising the young, hunt or work to provide necessities. When their usefulness comes to and end, whether through injury or old age, they are sent to the surface to fend for themselves.

Dara and her sister, Squirt, are the main characters in Above The Clouds. Squirt is still young enough that she helps where she can and not much is expected of her. Dara is a hunter. She is expected to bring back from the hunt a dozen rats or three cats or a dog.

The world Tim Vee has created is bleak and dangerous. It is a world I haven’t visited before and I have read many apocalyptic and dystopian fiction novels. We go from the depths of the earth to the clouds in the sky, where Squirt will find a life she could never have envisioned. I like the twist from dark to light, from despair to hope. I was suitably creeped out and that is always a good thing. LOL

BLURB

n a ruined, distant future of our world, filled with rain, gloom, and danger, Squirt and her sister Dara fight to survive as part of the underground clan, hunting meat to survive and clinging to the edges of existence.

When Squirt encounters a mysterious figure above ground, her life is upended. Taken to a gleaming paradise above the clouds, she finds herself trapped in an idyllic prison, where everything seems perfect—but is danger hiding in plain sight? Does Charlotte, her enigmatic and gentle companion, hide secrets behind her perfect smile? Does Mrs Wallis, the tower’s cold matriarch, watch Squirt with a predator’s patience?

Below, Dara hunts alone, trying to find meaning in her life and haunted by her sister’s disappearance while whispers of betrayal within the clan force her to choose between being a victim or fighting for her survival.

As the sisters’ paths converge, truths are exposed: immortality comes at a terrible price, and the ones they’ve trusted most may be their greatest enemies. Above the Clouds is a haunting tale of the fight for survival and identity, asking the question: What does it truly mean to be human?

EXCERPT

She made it to the side of the ruins, ducked under a concrete slab, and crouched silently, listening and watching the darkness. She allowed her ears and eyes to acclimate to the noises and darkness of the ruins, the dripping water, the scurrying of a rat, the rattle of a falling piece of rock, and the sounds men made.

She sniffed and smelled something. Something cooking.

Rat! she thought.

Moving slowly and cautiously, she crept out from her hiding place, not making a sound. She climbed onto a slab of concrete laying diagonally and crawled upward until she was looking down at where Chagga sat on a rock, roasting a pair of skinned rats above a fire. Adam was standing, shaking and banging the water off his furs. Chagga was speaking.

“…Tomorra, when the hunters head out, make sure our men are on guard at the big tube that comes in by the butcher…”

Hidden in the shadows above, Dara silently slipped her quiver from her shoulder.

“…That is where we attack…Once we have taken control, all those who have no faith will be butchered, and we will call Major Tom, and he will pick up, and he will send the riders, and we leave for Marbro Country!”

She rolled onto her back and slid two arrows from the quiver.

“Can you trust this bandit, Barg, father?” said Adam.

Gently, she laid one of the arrows on the concrete, and the other she notched.

“No,” said Chagga firmly. “But I need them to do in the guards while you kill the chief.”

She rolled, holding the bow with her left hand, pulling the bowstring back.

Kill Adam, and the others won’t know the plan? she thought. Or kill Chagga, and there is no plan?

She closed her left eye, pulling the string tighter.

SILENT KILLER

by Tracy Burnett & Ross Weiland

August 18 – September 26, 2025 Virtual Book Tour

I got a feeling right off the bat that something was wrong…and I was proven right. A tragic mistake sets off a chain of events that could cost many their lives.

Gordon Stone has been given a token job, close the charity scam out of Africa. Gordon has high functioning autisim and his spidey senses are telling him there is more than meets the eye at first scan. He is meticulous and known for his uncanny ability to get to the sniff out the details.

I felt a sense of urgency, a sense of anticipation, as the story unfolded. The suspense kept me flipping the pages, having to know what comes next. The short chapters and succinct writing made the story flow smoothly. Silent Killer, while a work in fiction, is as real as it can be. I can totally see how something like this can happen, and wouldn’t be surprised if it already has. Isn’t real life where are ideas for fiction are born? A little twist here and a little twist there, and voila, a story is born.

I want to thank Partners In Crime Virtual Book for the opportunity to read and review Silent Killer. Well done, Tracy and Ross.

Read an excerpt:

CHAPTER 1

What would be a landmark day for any other federal agent was an exercise in misery for Special Agent Gordon Stone. He sat, restless and uncomfortable, in the crowded auditorium inside the Albert V. Bryan US Courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia. Wesley Jay, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA), was on stage addressing the capacity crowd. Jay extolled the virtues of his office and its extraordinary success in managing the Eastern District’s “rocket docket.” The court’s namesake had coined the term in the seventies, District Court Judge Bryan himself. What it meant for Jay and his stable of Assistant US Attorneys (AUSAs) was that they were forced to be one of the most efficient offices in the country when it came to prosecuting cases. They gathered annually to recognize the most successful investigations and prosecutions of the preceding year. Lawyers, law enforcement, and family members filled the auditorium. For an office that had prosecuted some of the most notorious spy and terrorist cases in the country—not to mention the occasional political scandal—the yearly awards ceremony always attracted a full house.

“Copied by many, mirrored by none,” said Jay. “We bring justice to the American people more quickly and effectively than anywhere else in the country. I take great pride in that fact and hope you do as well.”

Gordon tried to listen, but his discomfort just being there compelled him to tune out Jay’s speech. It wasn’t that he did not want to be there. On the contrary, his greatest desire was to be able to sit in the audience, listen to Jay, and enjoy a career highlight. Gordon was being recognized for his work as lead agent on an application fraud case with the Food and Drug Administration Office of Criminal Investigations (FDA-OCI).

But Gordon did not fit in. He liked people, but he had trouble relating to them and was painfully aware of his social awkwardness. Way back in elementary school, he had been diagnosed with high-functioning autism, at the time referred to as Asperger Syndrome, or colloquially as Asperger’s.

Gordon appeared just like everyone else, but when it came to basic human interaction, it took a great deal of effort for him to engage with most people. It was always hard and frequently exhausting. Small talk, humor, and sarcasm often flew past him. Therapy had brought him a long way, but still, those who did not know him thought he was aloof. Some actually found his behavior offensive.

“Damn Asperger’s,” he said to himself.

The true irony, he knew, was however damning Asperger’s was to his social status, it was also his superpower, allowing him to focus on a particular topic—or investigation—to the point where he could see things no one else could see. He could anticipate what others viewed as unexpected. That focus bred unparalleled intuition, which was what made him a great investigator.

That was why he was here in this crowded hall, surrounded by people he did not know. He was a great investigator. But he was most definitely not a great socializer, and he was uncomfortable. As much as he wished he could enjoy the ceremony and embrace the praise of his peers, his Asperger’s would not allow it. In fact, a big group setting surrounded by strangers? That was pretty much the nightmare scenario.

Gordon’s brain was wired differently. At least that’s how Katherine, his longtime therapist, described it. He thought differently, acted differently, saw the world differently than most. She emphasized repeatedly to him he was not broken, just different, and Gordon knew it was okay to be different. Most of the time, that was enough. But even now, as a successful thirty-two-year-old federal agent, he could still feel broken. He hoped today would not be one of those days.

“The work we do—check that—the work you do for this country is, simply put, extraordinary,” Jay continued. “We put more cases before a judge than anyone else, and that means when it comes time to recognize our best work in a given year, the competition is tight. I salute those of you sitting in this room. Your work, your intellect, your dogged pursuit of justice places you at the top of what we do here. You are the best of the best. Thank you for all you do for our organization, our district, and our country.” Jay smiled to his audience. “Now then, let’s hand out some hardware.”

Review – Last See Unknown by J R Choice #lastseenunknown #jrchoice

Amazon / KindleUnlimited / Goodreads

As soon as I saw the cover with a child, and a title like Last Seen Unknown, I felt it would be a good fit. I love FBI thrillers, especially when the main character, Grace Powell, feels a personal connection.

My only complaint, I would love more ‘meat on the bone’, and I felt the author stumbled a time or two. Last Seen Unknown is a quick read, at only 180 pages, but every word was worth reading. The book moved at a fast pace, making it hard to stop and draw a breath…at least for the main character, Grace Powell. Her past comes back with a vengeance and she will stop at nothing to bring the kidnapper to justice.

Skylar is a character I loved to hate. She runs a news channel on Instagram and TikTok. It would be great, and maybe even helpful, if she wasn’t more interested in the numbers instead of how true her writings were. Definitely adds a touch of reality to the novella, considering we are seeing such things play out daily online.

It isn’t just a basement. It’s where innocence goes to die.

What a great sentence.

She can’t live like this. Waiting. Flinching.

To me, it’s time to go hunting. And she does.

I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC for Last Seen Unknown by J R Choice.

Twisted plots, flawed heroes, and secrets that won’t stay buried.

J.R. Cloice writes gritty crime fiction with bite—twisted plots, sharp dialogue, and characters who bleed. Before turning to novels, Cloice managed Birdland, New York’s legendary jazz club, and later co-founded a luxury cosmetics brand, leading it for over 20 years.

Now, the only thing getting polished is the prose.

Addicted to noir, flawed heroes, and buried secrets, Cloice crafts stories where justice is messy, truth cuts deep, and nobody walks away clean. If you like fast-paced thrillers packed with suspense and emotional punch, you’re in the right place.

Review – The Fruit Tree by Sabir Ahmed #sabirahmed #thefruittree

Amazon / Goodreads

Love is messy…and Adam and Eve are going to find out just how messy it can be.

A narrator is telling their story. By the end of the book, I thought that Sabir Ahmed left it up to me to figure out who the narrator was and who is the child he’s telling the story to. Am I right or wrong? I’ll leave it up to you to figure it out.

Adam and Eve are teenagers, their families are friends who think that they will eventually grow up and get married, have babies and live happily ever after. BUT, again, love is messy.

We follow them from their teenage years to adults. We watch as they struggle to make sense of their feelings. Adam is shy and Eve is…well, Eve. She thinks the world revolves around her and she can do no wrong. She will have a rude awakening.

I knew some of what was coming as I read along. ‘Love is a blessing and a curse.’ Love is the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. For some, love is an obsession, and there is no telling how far the scorned will go.

Most of the time, we/re just cruising along, watching the children trying to make sense of life, going through all the angst that teenagers have. The last quarter of the book had me on pins and needles. There was an air of menace oozing off the pages. I couldn’t flip them fast enough, having to know WTH is going to happen. I knew it couldn’t be good. The ending is mind blowing and I love it.

I want to thank Sabir Ahmed for the opportunity to read and review The Fruit Tree.

Adam is your typical shy guy in school, with no thoughts towards romance outside of his daydreaming. However, that all changes one day, when he gets saved by an unlikely Eve. Eve is one of the more popular girls in school, but maybe he had misjudged her. Rescued from her boyfriend, Adam can’t help but admire Eve. They quickly become good friends and the rest, as they say, is history.
Follow them as they grow from teenagers to adults and watch how their relationship evolves with them. As they explore themselves and figure out who they are, their love will change. With the assistance of their parents, who would love for them to be together, will it be enough? Will they end up on the same page? Or will the chapters they write forever be out of sync?
This is not the same Biblical tale you’re familiar with. She wasn’t made from his rib, and he had his own garden. With no god to guide them, nor a devil to deceive them, how would they envisage Eden? They were left alone to be victims of their hearts and hostages to their minds. He was the forbidden fruit, but would she bite?

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are arriving at school early and writing short stories before the day started. I’ve found a way to incorporate writing all throughout my life since, from stories, to journaling, to even writing guides and blog posts. My brain is constantly thinking of new ideas, if not fleshing out old ones. The Notes app on my phone has been a hero!

It’s always been my dream to publish a book. It didn’t need to be successful, it just had to be something I wrote. I was finally able to accomplish that, thanks to self-publishing. Now I have to find a new goal! It’s re-energised me to write even more, which I definitely intend on doing.

I hope you enjoy your stay in my little corner of the world.

Review – The Human Hybrid Odyssey by A McDonald, K Witt, K Jarta #aaronmcdonald #kimathiwitt #kawsajatta

Amazon / Goodreads

Did you see the cover for The Human Hybrid Odyssey: Forever Changed written by Aaron McDonald and Kimathi Witt, and illustrated by Kawsa Jatta? It sure did make me curious about what I would find inside. I was not disappointed. There are some wonderful illustrations, and I love them. They add a little something extra to the novel.

I love apocalyptic/dystopian novels and The Human Hybrid Odyssey is a fresh take on a familiar genre. Catastrophic storms wiped out humanity as we knew it. A new breed of genetically altered hybrids arise from the aftermath.

Forever Changed is the first volume in the series, an introduction to a world in which the survivors struggle to create a life for themselves and are forced to leave their home and set off on a journey to the safety of the kingdom. I love all the creatures.

Nosoo is an intriguing character. His one moment of cowardice sets him off on an adventure that will test him and could cost him his life. His bravery may be spurred on because of his cowardice, his need to redeem himself in the eyes of his village.

I bounced between a 3 and 4 star rating because I wanted more depth and detail. The book is 170 pages of goodness, but I wasn’t able to get lost, though I did read straight through. I had to know what was going to happen next and I can hardly wait to get my hands on the second book in the series.

The Human Hybrid Odyssey: From Inspiration to Imagination

Every great story begins with a spark—and for The Human Hybrid Odyssey, that spark came from a set of stunning illustrations. Coauthor Aaron McDonald first shared the extraordinary images of half-human, half-animal hybrids, created by illustrator Kawsu Jatta, with coauthor Kimathi Witt. Immediately, the two began imagining the origins of such beings. How did they come to exist? What kind of world would they inhabit? Those questions set the stage for what would become an ever-expanding creative journey.

From a Single Idea to a Growing Saga

What started as a vivid “what if” quickly grew into a fully developed series. Today, The Human Hybrid Odyssey is available as a paperback, eBook, and audiobook—with a graphic novel adaptation in production right now. Each format lets fans experience the hybrids’ world in a new dimension, ensuring that every type of reader can step into the odyssey.

Beyond the Page: Immersive Creations

The vision didn’t stop at books. Our team has brought these characters to life in posters, 3D-printed statues, and even a custom chess game, each piece connecting fans more deeply with the story’s universe. And the adventure is only beginning—we are preparing to bring the hybrids to the big screen and, eventually, to your favorite streaming platforms.

When the world as we know it crumbles beneath catastrophic storms and ancient forces reawaken, humanity is forever changed.

In the aftermath of global ruin, a new breed rises-genetically altered hybrids forged by chaos and instinct. Part human, part beast, they struggle to survive in a land reshaped by destruction, mystery, and myth. Tribes form, power shifts, and trust are a rare commodity in this brutal new order.

Among the survivors, unlikely alliances form as hybrid warriors embark on a harrowing journey through treacherous terrain, both physical and spiritual. Hunted by enemies, haunted by memories, and driven by a primal call they barely understand, they must uncover the truth about their transformation-and what it means for the future of their kind.

Forever Changed is the explosive first volume in The Human Hybrid Odyssey, a cinematic sci-fi saga blending action, ancient legends, and speculative evolution. This is not just a battle for survival. It’s the origin of a new species-and the beginning of an unforgettable odyssey.

Review – To Cage A Wild Bird by Brooke Fast #brookefast #tocageawildbird #netgalley

Get in. Get out. Don't fall in love.
To Cage a Wild Bird tropes like enemies to lovers and slow burn romance

Amazon / Goodreads

I couldn’t find any information about Brooke Fast on Goodreads or Amazon. To Cage A Willd Bird is her debut novel and she knocked it out of the park.

Imagine, if you will, that by committing one single crime, you are given a life sentence. Pretty hard to put yourself in that position in this day and age. The prison is not like any prison you can imagine. I’m not sure of how much to share, but seeing it isn’t mentioned in the blurb, I won’t spoil the events that take place in the prison. Think our prisons are brutal…this one takes incarceration to a whole new level.

Raven Thorne is a bounty hunter. I love strong female main characters The romance between Raven and a prison guard develops slowly. It’s not easy to know who to trust. There are plenty of corrupt, lecherous guards who felt they could do whatever they want, but one guard tried to do whatever he could to protect the inmates from them.

I had some minor issues, but for the most part I got hooked from the very beginning. Brooke Fast had some unique and original thoughts for her dystopian novel and I am always on the lookout for a fresh take on a familiar tale.

I want to thank NetGalley and Avon for the opportunity to read and review To Cage A Wild Bird. I can hardly wait to find out what comes next.

Enter the brutal world of Endlock, a prison where the wealthy hunt the inmates for sport. The first novel in an electrifying dystopian romance series, this high-octane debut about forbidden love, found family, and a fight for survival will leave you breathless.
In the city of Dividium, the law is simple: commit a crime, and your punishment is a life sentence in Endlock.
Raven Thorne is Dividium’s most notorious bounty hunter, living on the edge of society. But when her younger brother, Jed, is sentenced to Endlock, Raven will do anything to save him—even if it means getting herself arrested.
Now trapped in a prison where danger lurks around every corner, Raven must use all her cunning and strength to protect Jed—and herself if she is to complete her perilous mission. But there’s one obstacle she never expected: the prison guard who stirs something deep inside her. The man she should hate. The man whose true motives seem impossible to pin down.
In a world where trust is a weapon and love is a liability, Raven must decide if she will risk everything to tear down a vicious system,

Nancy J Cohen is a master storyteller when it comes to the cozy mystery genre. Murder Pays A Call surpassed my expectations. Usually cozies are too tame for me, but Murder Pays A Call is not your run of the mill cozy.

Welcome to Sunny Grove, Florida.

Keri Armstrong is a personal concierge. You have a need, she is happy to fulfill it, but murder was not on the menu. When the murder of one of her clients happens, she discovers the body of Fiona Sullivan. The rumor mill begins, but Fiona was one of her favorite clients and she is determined to find out the why of it herself.

Death brings out the best and the worst in people and we have a lot of people with their opinions and Keri’s list of suspects grows longer.

Cozies have nicer murders and murderers than the suspense thrillers that I love so much. Nancy does delve a little deeper than a lot of the cozies I’ve read and I find that enjoyable. Is that the wrong word? I mean, we are talking about murder. 🙂

Personal concierge Keri Armstrong will accept almost any job, but solving murders wasn’t on her to-do list—until now.

When personal concierge Keri Armstrong swings by her favorite client’s mansion to drop off groceries, she expects a heartfelt chat along with a cup of tea—not Fiona Sullivan dead in bed and her room ransacked. Though police chalk it up to a botched robbery, Keri isn’t so sure. Whispers around town suggest Fiona wasn’t as adored as Keri had believed, and many of the philanthropist’s so-called friends in affluent Sunny Grove, Florida seem glad she’s gone.

Keri refuses to let Fiona’s memory be reduced to malicious gossip. Armed with a keen eye, insider access, and a fully charged tablet, she sets out to uncover the truth. Soon her file of suspects grows faster than her to-do list. Between sneaky neighbors, resentful relatives, and tight-lipped charity board members, Fiona left behind a trail of frenemies who’d happily skip her memorial brunch.

As Keri digs deeper, she discovers her late mentor had a gift for extracting people’s secrets and using them like fine china—carefully storing them until they could serve a purpose. But Fiona also kept a few skeletons in her own walk-in closet. Now, with danger creeping closer, Keri must race to crack the case before her number comes up next… and Murder Pays a Call.

“A page-turner of a mystery from one of my favorite authors. Cohen’s deft mastery of the cozy genre shines through in every scene, delighting readers with another engrossing whodunit.” Muddy Rose Reviews
