Dragon Clan (Order of the Dolphin, #3)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

It is fantastic to be back in Roatan with Eva and the gang to find out what happens next in this creature feature. No slow start. Action from the getgo.

Now, they are being moved from Roatan, Honduras to Hawaii, courtesy of DARPA and the US Navy.

Kaili is the guardian spirit of the Dragon Clan. She is a Komodo Dragon like no other.

Eva is worried about her dolphins. They have dealt with a mutant Tylosaurus, drug lords, mutant CobiX fish ad Julian Gulliver. It’s hard to tell which is the most dangerous. As if that isn’t enough, now we have to deal with tsunamis.

Kristie Clark does insert ecological, climate change as it applies to the events in the story. She doesn’t get preachy, just includes the pertinent data, just like any other part of the story. I find, when an author does that, it adds that real element and makes the story richer.

You may wonder how someone can write a series with dolphins as the stars. Ask Kristie Clark. She has managed to keep me eager for more and surprises me with how quickly I become involved. She blends fact and fiction seamlessly.

I caught the hint, but was still surprised when she hurt her arm.

I am soooo loving this series. Kristie Clark does her due diligence when it comes to research, sharing the rich history, myths and legends of Hawaii.

GOODREADS BLURB

A dragon will kill her creator to protect her family.

Dr. Eva Paz wants only a peaceful life on Roatán for herself and her dolphins, continuing their research in dolphin communication and educating children on the importance of caring for the reef.

But when the Navy reactivates Taffy and Finn for exercises in Pearl Harbor, that all changes. For she finds Julian is there as well, and he is armed with yet another genetically modified creature. This time, it has the spirit of an actual dragon.

Thankfully, Eva has her friends and her family—and Thomas—on her side. Not to mention a whole host of new friends: the members of Dragon Clan.

Join Eva as she works with Thomas and her dolphins to save the Hawaiian Islands from an environmental disaster that could destroy them all.

For fans of Michael Crichton, Dragon Clan is book three in Kristie Clark’s Order of the Dolphin series.

Book club questions included. May be read as a standalone, but Dragon Clan is best enjoyed with the other Order of the Dolphin series books: Killing Dragons and Dragon Gold.

Eco Thriller Dragon Gold by Kristie Clark #KristieClark

Who doesn’t love a treasure hunt and the dragon that protects it?

Dragon Gold (Order of the Dolphin, #2)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

The Order of the Dolphin series by Kristie Clark keeps getting better in Dragon Gold. I do recommend reading them in order, beginning with Killing Dragons, but Kristie Clark includes all the updates if you were inclined to read it as a stand alone.

Eva is in charge of dolphin research at the Roatan Institute for Marine Science in Honduras. She talks to dolphins and has been creating a vocabulary to enable them to communicate.

Thomas is head of the Sternberg Center for Cancer Cures in Kansas city, Kansas, creating innovative gene therapy. On his last trip to Roatan, his lab tech, Ivan, had found an enzyme in the toxic red tide. Thomas and Eva are both passionate about their work. but how can they have a relationship with so much distance between them.

I love anything to do with water, so to dive with the dolphins, hunt with them for lionfish, and learn of the world underneath, even in a fictional way, is very interesting and entertaining to me.

Action and danger enter the story and Eva’s life early on. She has friends that will come to her aid in Julian’s deadly game. All the characters play pivotal roles, even if they are not the stars.

An extreme sense of urgency lingers on the pages, and I feel it almost as much as Eva, but she must keep her cool, make a plan…and wait for Thomas. He was a Navy Seal working with dolphins, and she can use all the help she can get.

Kristie Clark’s blend of fact and fiction brings her world to life, making me want to jump in with both feet. She explains her research and facts at the end of each novel and I love it. Getting lost in her tropical paradise gave me many hours of reading enjoyment.

The first book, Killing Dragons, took Kristie Clark ten years to write, but like the pacing of Dragon Gold, she wrote this one in a month. Guess these characters had a lot to say to her.

There is so much between the cover of Dragon Gold…a touch of ecology, giving back to the world that gives us life, cancer research, Naval bits and pieces, fish farming, genetic engineering, kidnapping and murder, and Kristie Clark ties it all together in an amazeballs package.

A dragon will kill any who dare to take its gold.

After her dangerous adventures earlier in the year, everything is finally going well for Dr. Eva Paz. Her breakthroughs in dolphin communication are changing the world. Her discoveries could save the reef she loves. And now her mother has found love again.

But then a madman returns to claim what’s his. Eva’s old nemesis, Julian Gulliver, kidnaps Eva’s mother, and he demands an exorbitant ransom.

It’s money Eva doesn’t have.

What she does have are friends who are willing to do anything to help, including ex-Navy SEAL—and ex-boyfriend—Dr. Thomas Sternberg. But Eva’s greatest asset may be her dolphins: Taffy, Finn, Cleo, and Chico.

Together, they need to mount a rescue effort. Yet things are even more desperate than they imagine, for Julian isn’t the only menace terrorizing Roatan.

Join Eva as she works with Thomas and her dolphins to rescue her mother and save the reef from a man who would destroy them all.

For fans of Michael Crichton, Dragon Gold is book two in Kristie Clark’s Order of the Dolphin Series.

Water Monsters – Killing Dragons by Kristie Clark #kristieclark

I am a member of Book Sirens, and when I saw Killing Dragons by Kristie Clark, I had to have it. I love anything to do with water, but adding monsters is even better.

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

For all the fans of sharks (like in Jaws), dinosaurs (like in Jurassic Park), dolphins, intrigue, danger and adventure, I think you will love diving into the Order of the Dolphin series and Killing Dragons by Kristie Clark.

As soon as I saw the cover, I had to grab it. No doubt in my mind, I had to have it.

I had a bad feeling in the opening pages and I have my fingers crossed that I m not right about Lars.

Eva is the sole supporter for her family, so the grant for her dolphin research is vital. Wouldn’t it be cool, if not talk to dolphins as humans, but still be able to communicate by building a vocabulary?

A human body bit in half, a fin cut from a dolphin found on the beach…Eva would have to investigate the legend of the Lusea, a sea dragon.

A monster. A fish farm. Greed. Drugs. Need I say more?

Kristen Clark did a great job of pumping up a familiar tale with stories within the story, keeping it fresh and exciting. The pacing and intrigue kept me flipping pages. With all the doom and gloom, we do have some chuckles. Some romance. The complete package. Her research makes the blend of fact and fiction difficult to tell where one stops and the other starts. Some parts are very familiar and play out like a B movie, but that is just fine with me.

The story could end here, but I am sooooo glad it doesn’t. I can hardly wait to read more.

P. S. I also read Hatching The Dragon, a short story the explains the origins of the Caribbean sea dragon. You can find it HERE. You can also get Dragon of the Sea by following her newsletter HERE.

GOODREADS BLURB

On a tropical island, a sea dragon strikes terror. Marine Biologist Eva Paz is a survivor. Growing up in rural poverty, she loses her family after her brother dies in cartel crossfire. Mistrustful of others and more comfortable around animals, Eva throws herself into her work. When a sea dragon attacks her lead dolphin, Taffy, it threatens Eva’s dreams of cracking the dolphin communication code.

A man from Eva’s tragic past arrives on the island to lead a dive school; Geneticist Thomas Sternberg’s sabbatical soon turns into a nightmare when the sea dragon assaults one of his divers. Eva doesn’t trust him. On his watch as a former Navy SEAL, others died, and an injury left Taffy terribly scarred.

Drug lord Ignacio makes Eva an offer she can’t refuse. He’ll fund her research if she’ll help him catch the sea dragon. She needs the money. She lost her grant. Her dolphins could be turned loose in the Caribbean with that dragon. There’s a catch. Ignacio would capture and control the sea dragon at any cost.

To stop the dragon, Eva must decide if she should ally with Thomas or Ignacio. Or she could go after the dangerous dragon alone.

Can a haunted scientist slay the dragon in time to save her dolphins?

For fans of Jaws and Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park, Killing Dragons is book one in Kristie Clark’s Order of the Dolphin series.
