Okay, let’s start with an introduction: This is the second story of the Candella Sisters and it is time to meet Agape “Aggie” Candella and her romantic interest Nickolas “Nick” Sleigh. It’s best to read the series in order, even when each book can stand alone.
Aggie felt she was being paranoid, put the feeling she was being watched lingered.
Thinking this was too easy and predictable, I was watching for Jane Blythe to twist and turn the story to a place I didn’t see coming. She is good at that, which is why I love her novels so much and eagerly grab each one, waiting to be delighted by the trials and tribulations she will put her characters through.
Agape means love in Greek. It fits her perfectly, since all she really wants is her happy ever after, her knight in shining armor, her white picket fence. She is naive, trusting, easy prey. She would find a guy she liked, become obsessive and drive him away. We have met her family before…and her two sisters. Though they look like triplets, they all have a different mother.
Nick had learned early on to never let emotions rule him, don’t get attached. He rarely laughed or smiled….until Aggie. Her sweetness, innocence and strength was quick to entrance him, and he will protect her at all costs.
Romantic suspense is my comfort zone. My adrenaline rises, yet I feel wrapped in a warm snuggly embrace. I am just a rider, a spectator in Jane Blythe’s characters lives. I don’t know how she continually comes up with new ways to stress me (LOL), to amaze me, to keep me reading on, but I am grateful for having found her. Soooooo, thanks so much, Jane, for the many hours, days, weeks, months, and years of fabulous entertainment. You keep writing, I’ll keep reading.

Deputy Chief Dustin O’Meara, his daughter, father in law and four women were murdered in a home invasion and Mac Faraday is on the case. Because of that, the perp needs to be very nervous because Mac always gets his man.
“To the animal behind this, I want to say only one thing. I’m coming for you…and I will find you.”
Lots of great characters, human and animal both.
Teddy is a hero, a cockatoo with an attitude, and I love him. I love Kourtney too. This ten year old girl is such a fabulous character, older than her years. Gnarly always cracks me up with his hijinks. Erica, the Cold Case Diva, has a horse in a dog suit. How cool is that?
Mac may need some help, so the Nancy Drew Crew is on the case. They even made Kourtney a Junior member.
Lauren is so creative and adds a touch of humor to her murder, and I found myself smiling….a lot, sometimes laughing out loud. There is so much I want to share about the critters, but I must leave it up to you to find out why I love them so much.
I have been reading the Mac Faraday series for a long time now, but Shadow of Murder is not one of my favorites. I enjoyed the story, but I got bogged down with so many characters and so much info that I kept getting lost. This is an ARC, not a finished product, so changes may be made, creating a more polished version that the one I read.
So many plots, so many suspects, some murder, some laughs, some romance.
For a police procedural, Shadow of Murder was filled with action and a battle between good and evil and a wild ride at the end, making it all worth it.

I loved reading these characters dark and disturbing stories. I don’t think I have ever been where they took me. How will it end? Nothing can stop me from finding out. My guess, they can’t all die…can they? Someone has to be left standing…don’t they?
I couldn’t put it down.
The explosive conclusion blew me away…

I had read another book, Professor Charlatan Bardot’s Travel Anthology to the Most (Fictional) Haunted Buildings in the Weird, Wild World by Eric J Guignard and really enjoyed it, so when given the opportunity to read and review another work, Horror Library, Volume 7 by Eric, I hopped on it.
Besides that, I couldn’t resist the fabulously creepy cover.
First off, I want to tell you about the special guests gallery of horror(ible) images by Allen Koszowski included in the anthology. His first published piece was in 1973 and he is still going strong.
Horror Library, Volume 7 by Eric J Guignard includes 30 original short stories. We have plenty of thrills and creepiness. These leaders of the macabre with take you down a dark path…and I hope you return…wanting more. Some authors were familiar and others were new to me, but they all contributed something that gave me chills, leading me on to the next one and the next one and the next one.
The great thing about short stories is you can finish them while waiting…whether in line at the drug store, waiting in the doctor’s office, or just having a minute or two to spare. Whether you like to read your horror in the light of day or in the dark, be wary. You may get more than you bargained for.

Pamela Crane’s damaged characters do surprising things that do hold my attention. She has packed a lot into this small package that caught me off guard, because I was sure I knew what was coming…and I was so far off. I am happy that I have the next book, The Art of Fear, hanging around my Kindle, though The Scream of Silence is a complete short story that can stand alone. I wonder…will you be teased by it and desire more? I sure did.

I love the character of Royo, and his life partner, Rickie, who is a
bit flamboyant. I read about his purple Lycra pants and smiled at the
picture that formed in my head. It reminds me of a couple of gay friends
I had when I lived in Michigan. I have been reading about more diverse
characters in the past year and am glad I have expanded my reading
genres. Royo is incorruptible and loves nothing more than putting the
pieces of a crime together, like a jigsaw puzzle.
Jaden lives across the hall from the dead woman. There is so much to
Jaden’s story that I am not even going to try and tell it. I will tell
you, my heart aches for him. His sister is his sole support system,
since the death of his girlfriend. The more I read, the more I fear for
his sanity. He is Unbalanced, but I do not see him being the cause of
her death…but ya never know. Does he take his medication? Is it helping
or harming him? I am so suspicious of the doctor, but I won’t tell you
why. You will have to find out for yourself, and I do recommend doing
so.
Prosecutor Heather Laughton is out to make a name for herself and is
throwing Jaden to the wolves, when he kills the men who invaded his
home. I felt disgusted and angry.
As more is revealed, I bounce back and forth about Jaden. Something
wicked is going on and I need more pieces of the puzzle. My heart was in
my throat through most of the book. The suspense, pacing and my need to
know drove me on, searching for answers, wanting to protect him and
take down those who wished him harm.
I read so many great books it’s hard for me to get so riled. I am
only halfway through and I am so poed for him. I cannot imagine what I
would do in Jayden’s place, but I doubt I could keep from standing up
and losing it in front of one and all.
At times I felt Royo was like Columbo, bumbling and tenacious, like a
dog with a bone. He won’t stop until he has the answers. I felt he was
on Jayden’s side, but why doesn’t he follow the questions he has? What’s
taking him so long to open his eyes, see their importance? I feel Jason
Parent is torturing me…and Jaden. LOL He sure knows how to get my blood
pumping, my heart pounding. Even when I had doubts, I felt Jason Parent
was leading me where he wanted me to go.
Officer Megan Costa is a new recruit who Royo remembers from the a
class he taught at the Academy. She is bright, diligent, not afraid to
share her opinion. I would love to see more of her. Royo, I liked even
more at the end. I know Jason Parent does stand alone novels and I have
only seen him do one series, the Cycle Of Evil, but…
What do you think Jason? Could there be another story for Royo and Costa?

WOW! Two Nights In Lisbon by Chris Pavone was a very pleasant surprise. I can’t say exactly why I grabbed the book. The cover is nothing special, though as I look closer there is more to see the more I look.
Ariel had remade herself after the end of her marriage. Now, she has found the last piece of the puzzle for her happy ever after…until…He’s gone.
She’s alone in Lisbon, Portugal with nothing but questions. Where is he? Apparently she doesn’t know him as well a she thought. Could something from his past come back to haunt him? Is he in trouble?
Ariel loves mystery novels, and it’s a good thing. She will need the knowledge she gained from reading them to plan her own investigation. She had been an actress and trained herself to be observant, aware of her surroundings.
Near the end, a flash, and my questions are answered about him….But, not really.
Two Nights In Lisbon by Chris Pavone may seem a bit slow, methodical, but it could also be a blueprint on how to take revenge and get justice.
So many twists and turns, and, best of all, book surprises. I love book surprises that keep me flipping pages and an author’s ability to shock and awe me, again and again.
The pacing was spot on, making me want to peek ahead, but I resisted the urge. Can you? The more I think about the book, the better it gets. Excellent job, Chris.

The creepy cover for The Doll does fit the creepy story inside of a trip to an island of dolls that it is wise not to touch, but a young girl finds them so irresistible…so beware, what is done cannot always be undone and the ending undone me, which was worth a star on its own.
The GAIA Incident is my first book of Rod Pennington’s, but after checking out his list of books on Goodreads, and how much I liked this one, I don’t think it will be my last
Pryor’s ride of choice is a restored cherry red 1958 F150 pickup. I am a bit of a car buff, so one that stands out does catch my attention. His look is blue collar and he is no 20 something hottie, but entering mid life. I do love the hottie’s, but a character that is not perfect, and he is not perfect, is just as interesting.
I love Pryor & Holden’s antics while standing in a coffee line. It put a big smile on my face.
The GAIA Institute is the college’s cash cow. President Joan Winston’s success is linked to it and murder is not conducive to her success.
Pryor has been called back from suspension for the high profile murder…and assigned a new partner. the son of the man who trained him, Max Cummings. His ex father in law used his influence to pull him in. His daughter Brooke gets caught up in the investigation. The more I learn about her, the more I love her. What a fabulous character.
Pryor & Brooke’s dialogue is hilarious, when he found out who she really was.
The technology involved…could it be our future? Anything good can be used in a bad way and this scenario is frightening. Rod Pennington took it even further than I thought and if you ever wondered how a closed room murder could happen, this might help give you an answer. Could we be creating our own doomsday weapon? A wild version of ‘the butler’ did it.
Proper use of the brain is not endorsed by federal government. Timothy Leary…and I agree completely. Think about recent events.
R2D2, C3PO, Brooke, the ultimate Alpha female… I love books with fun critters and Blitz, a retired K9, shows bravery and humor.
After watching the TV show, Person Of Interest for years, I think this could be our wake up call.
The more I read, the better it got. The dialogue, the characters, the mystery and suspense, the pacing…it’s alllllll good!

I love the cover for The Graveyard Speaks by Hunter Shea. I went back and forth on the review rating between a two and a three. If you can get if for free, I would grab it.
The story is predictable, easy to read, and just deep enough to hold my interest to the end.
That being said, I have read several other books by Hunter Shea and enjoyed them, so I will keep my eyes open for more.
