A week to think, a lifetime to love.

When a young attorney arrives on the Big Island with the goal of moving past her broken engagement and predictable life, a brooding but sexy man is not what she expected but is exactly what she needs.

Mia wants to move beyond the years of her life wasted in pleasing everyone else, except herself. She travels to Hawaii, where she can be alone–where she knows no one and no one knows her. But instead of the solitude she craves, she meets a handsome stranger with the uncanny ability to see the person she wants to be.

Love is for other people, or so Kekoa thinks. The Hawaiian surfer is no stranger to heartbreak or sacrifice. He’s all but given up on his dreams, resigned to live the life his deceased father had planned for him. And then, a curvy and dark-haired bundle of sunshine rents a room in his family’s inn and everything changes.

Maybe love isn’t too much to hope for after all….

Excerpt

Climbing out of the shower, Mia felt refreshed. It had been a great first day minus the awkward start, but she didn’t want to erase the run-in with Kekoa or the way his simple presence had made her feel alive.

Phina had been thrilled to whip her up a quick ham sandwich with a malasada on the side. Mia might pack on a few pounds if the Hawaiian doughnut became a regular treat with every meal.

After lunch, she lounged around by the swimming pool, dipping into the crisp water and draping her arms over the edge of the infinity pool, taking in the view. She’d even snuck in a twenty-minute nap before hitting her shower.

She had ten minutes before she had to meet for her massage. Slipping on a black running skirt and a pink tank top with shelf bra, she slid her feet into her flip-flops and pulled her hair into a ponytail. Then she meandered through the Inn and down the pathway toward the gazebo.

When she reached the square wooden gazebo partially extended over the hillside with stilts, she peered between the cream drapes hanging from ceiling to floor on three sides, creating privacy from any passersby. An open side provided a broader view of the beach below. It was breathtaking. The sound of the waves lapping the shore put her in an even more relaxing mood. The massage table, swathed in cream sheets, sat in the middle of the space.

“Excuse me,” a deep, raspy, somewhat familiar voice interrupted her intake of the space she’d be calling home for the next hour.

Mia startled, whirling around and inhaling sharply. Him! Her eyes widened in astonishment and her mouth fell open.

All six feet plus inches of hot, brooding surfer stood before her looking like the mountain she wanted to climb. He tied his dark hair up in a man-bun, wisps fluttering in the gentle breeze. With his hair out of his face, his prominent cheekbones, strong jawline, and rounded chin were more visible. He’d shaven since that morning as his cheeks and jaw were smooth. She itched to touch him, her fingers twitching at her sides. His scarred eyebrow quirked, and his mouth twisted as if ready to say something, but the sight of her prevented him from doing so.

“I-I’m waiting for my massage therapist,” she squeaked out. Her belly fluttered with sensation at being this close to him again. “I-I have an appointment at three-thirty.” She had done nothing wrong. Why was she so intimidated by him?

For crying out loud, she argued before judges and negotiated the terms of a client’s contract or presented to a board of directors explaining the contract she’d drafted for the company. A menacing, yet extremely hot surfer should be easily handled.

“I should have figured.” He blew out a breath and his gaze flicked upward to the heavens.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Mia quipped, raising her chin and gaining some confidence.

“I’m your massage therapist.” He belted out a boisterous laugh.

“What? No.” She shook her head in complete denial and waved her hands emphatically.

Undressing and lying on the massage table in nothing but a sheet before this man had her heart slamming against her chest. She considered his large, powerful hands that would rub oil into her skin while working out the tension in her muscles. A tingling sensation stirred between her legs and arousal rushed through her.

“There must be some mistake.” Her mouth went dry, and she shuffled a few steps backward, hitting the step of the gazebo and falling on her bottom.

About the Author

Jessica is a born and raised small-town Ohio girl, who moved to the Sunshine State after graduating from college with an English degree. She attended law school and passed her bar exam on the very first attempt. She met the love of her life in a romance novel sort of way. They married and have three beautiful (and sometimes crazy) kids. Jessica loves to travel and travel often! She’s jumped out of several perfectly good airplanes. When not watching her son rule the soccer field or her daughters dominate the volleyball court, she watches Buckeye football and the Tampa Bay Lightning. She’s a wine-making (and wine-tasting with her girlfriends) aficionado. She loves all music. Thinks Eric Church is a rock star. Worships Jason Momoa. Believes Game of Thrones was the best show on television but lives by many Seinfeld-isms.

Snowflakes and Shots by Amanda Siegrist @amanda_siegrist #HolidayRomance

.

Amanda Siegrist writes some wonderful clean romance and some a bit more suspenseful and I have been reading her work for quite a while (which you can see below). I am excited to share her latest holiday romance, Snowflakes & Shots.

Such a beautiful cover to go with a beautiful story.

Snowflakes and Shots (Holiday Romance Novel, #5)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I love visiting friends for the holidays, especially book friends in the year of Covid.

Snowflakes and Shots by Amanda Siegrist has a sweet cover that goes with the sweet story inside.

We will have some second chance romance and family conflict. It wouldn’t be a family holiday without some conflict, would it?

The story is predictable, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it tremendously. It was warm and cozy, like a hot fire and a cup of hot chocolate.

The characters are as realistic as the story and I love when a true piece of the author’s life is included in the story. I feel you too will enjoy meeting Curly …but I will leave it to you to figure out who Curly is and the part he plays in the story. It left me with a warm fuzzy feeling.

I don’t think you can go wrong with an Amanda Siegrist novel, especially this time of year. She will share a sweet romance, sometimes a bit steamier than her contemporary novels, but her stories do have all the feels I look for in a romance novel. I did debate between a 3 and a 4 rating because of the predictability, but the characters won me over, so a 4 it is.

I voluntarily reviewed and ARC of Snowflakes and Shots by Amanda Siegrist.

GOODREADS BLURB

How can you possibly win when you are your own worst enemy? Nancy Elaine Bower (Nan to those who know her well) weathers a childhood overshadowed by her father’s alcoholism and mother’s martyrdom only to be thrust into an adulthood littered with landmines of self destruction. Each erratic decision she makes twists and contorts her life in unthinkable ways, until finally she’s left in a crumpled heap on her mother’s doorstep. It’s 1960, two years later, and Nan still meets each day as if a stranger intent on doing her harm. Hiding in plain sight from the world outside, she spends most of her time trying to win back the affections of her young son while thwarting her mother’s ceaseless interference. As she begins to fantasize of a life more normal, the serendipitous return of an old friend breathes a spark of hope into this possibility. Before she can allow herself to consider walking away from her past though, Nan must escape the unyielding bars of circumstance that surround her, and while she’ll be required to relive her greatest nightmare in order to do so, there is no guarantee of her release.

I added Nan’s Story by Paige Farmer to be Goodreads TBR on 10.25.20 and downloaded from Amazon on 10.27.12. I am not sure why I downloaded this or when/if I’ll read it. Maybe I won it? And I do try to read everything I win. I can’t bring myself to remove a book that I have on my Kindle, so it will remain. Besides, it may catch someone else’s eye, and isn’t that what we all want? More books? HA HA HA

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo / Google Play

EXCERPT:

Levi grunted as his dragon surged again. Still needing distance, he stumbled inside the cavern he’d just drilled a hole into, seeking calm in the cooler interior out of sight of the others.

After several minutes, he spotted the group through the entrance, all shifted and now moving inside where he waited. The newcomer, Drake, walked in front, blocking Levi’s view of the female causing him so much trouble.

Then Drake, his face seeming to be formed in a permanent scowl, red eyes glowing with flame, moved to the side, and Levi’s dick went as hard as a steel broadsword as his gaze zeroed in on her.

Silky black hair, lithe body, and the face of an angel. Her wide smile, highlighted by a deep dimple that gave her beauty an adorable edge, hit him at the same time as her spring scent. Levi agreed with his dragon on the spot.

Mine.

Lyndi turned her head away from Deep, who had escorted her inside with her hand linked through his arm, and stilled at the sight of him. No doubt his eyes were golden flames. The skin over his cheekbones tightened. Hell, everything tightened. He opened his mouth to welcome her, but her smile suddenly disappeared and she shot him a glare so full of spitting fury, he stepped back.

“Just because I am female-born doesn’t mean you need to treat me like a leper and fly away,” she snarled at him.

Levi froze, a riot of conflicting thoughts keeping him from correcting her. He knew he’d just fucked up, and his dragon was riding him hard to tell her she was wrong. That some misplaced sense of male dragon superiority wasn’t why he’d run.

It was exactly the opposite, actually.

Lyndi walked away while he stood there, still stunned, and he watched her go.

There was no easy answer here, and the lead weight in his chest told him so. Given who she was related to and what she was, not to mention her clear aversion to him already, he had no damn clue how fix any of this, or if he should even try.

Meet the Author:

Daniela Valenti is the pen name for a Canadian psychiatrist who writes Paranormal Fiction. That may seem incongruous, but it’s not really. The work in her chosen field and her writing dovetail nicely. She is able to draw upon her work as a psychiatrist to create multidimensional characters who are simultaneously powerful and vulnerable. Daniela lives in Montreal and holds a medical degree from McGill. She speaks French and regards herself a chatty introvert. Growing up, she was a voracious reader of sci-fi and fantasy. Her interests today include supernatural lore, skincare and fashion, gorgeous travel destinations, true crime, and learning about narcissism and psychopathy. She’s thought a lot about love and evil and maintains that narcissism is the true nature of all evil. Daniela has traveled extensively. Her love of the exotic dominates many of the settings where the characters in her stories romp and play their parts. Her prior attempts at writing began at age nine with a story about a doctor’s cat, and then a short sci-fi story at age twenty-three. Thirteen years later, her foray into serious-minded writing simply happened. She began writing in 2017, after she returned from a trip to Prague for an international forensic psychiatry conference. What she learned there, combined with her impressions of Prague, her prior ruminations on the nature of love and evil, and her clinical knowledge all combined to create the first book in her series. It was a moment when all sorts of aspects of herself, her life experiences and her interests came together, like a self-assembling puzzle. The story came to her like a movie, unfolding in her head as she sat on an airplane, staring at the screen-less back of the chair in front of her, for the eight-hour trip back to Canada. Once set in motion, the wheels of creation kept on turning, and resulted in the Sentinel 10 series.

PublisherAshley Lee London
Release date:   June 2020
Content Rating:  PG. No F Words, I can think of several swear words and one very mild sex scene after its conclusion.

Grace Parrish made two mistakes when she fell in love. She forgot her mother’s stories of segregation. “Don’t love a white man, Grace. It’s too hard and he’ll break your heart.” Even worse, she fell in love with her best friend’s husband, Peter. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU is a poignant story about the foundation of marriage: love, honor, and fidelity—and the heartache of unrequited love. The must-read story shows how the power of love can overcome adversity, the pain of loss, and rejection because of racial heritage. Grace honors her best friend Lori’s marriage and refuses to pursue an affair, yet her heart will not allow her to love another. The bond of Peter’s love continues after Lori’s passing. During a chance meeting between Peter and Grace, much to their surprise, a spark ignites that causes them each to wonder, “Could it be that we’ve been given a second chance to fall in love?”

I won Solid by Shelley Workings and added it to my TBR on 10. Everything about the book appeals to me. It is a YA novel, which I do read a lot of when they are also the paranormal and supernatural type. Apocalypti/dystopian/science fiction/fantasy makes me want to know about these kids and their powers. I love a simple cover that says a lot and this one stands out. I wonder how much it pertains to the story and I shall find out. How about you? Do you every get a bit peeved when the cover in no one matches the story inside?

The Ghost and the Graveyard (Knight Games, #1)

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

**The Ghost and The Graveyard is a funny, exciting, and sexy read intended for adults. Due to sexual content, language, and violence this book is recommended for ages 18+**

Grateful Knight isn’t looking for love when she moves into a rent-free house on the edge of a graveyard. At twenty-two, all she wants is to recover financially so she can move back to the city where she belongs.

But sparks fly when the gorgeous cemetery caretaker, Rick, introduces himself and mentions his suspicion that her new house might be haunted. Her attraction to him seems supernatural, and despite her resolve to not get involved, she literally can’t keep her hands off him.

When things in Grateful’s house start moving on their own, another man enters her life, Logan, a sexy ghost with a dark secret. He says Rick isn’t what he seems, and indulging her passion for him could cost her soul.

One thing’s for sure, magical forces are at work in the tiny town of Red Grove, and they’re converging on Grateful. Life will never be the same once she’s forced to choose between the ghost and the graveyard.

Problem is, his enemies know the librarian and his daughter are special to him. They are his to protect, even if he’s incapable of feeling love.

But when danger comes knocking at Miriam’s library door, he must choose between solving the biggest mystery of his existence and the woman he swore to protect.

What’s a vampire king to do?

EXCERPT:

My parents started this library and filled it with millions of dollars of books. Three floors. Open in the middle—same as our house—overlooking the main floor. When I wasn’t in school or training to be a Keeper, I was here, losing myself in books. I think I always knew I wanted to be a librarian, but it just took a while to work up the courage to tell my family. Of course, when I did, they acted like I’d told them I wanted to be a porn star or bank robber.

To this day, I don’t regret my choice, but I do regret how my parents were murdered before I could convince them that choosing another path in life didn’t mean I hated them. They died thinking the worst of me, and for that, I don’t think I’ll ever feel closure.

I pull into the parking lot to the side of my library and immediately go for my crossbow. The big one this time. Bertha.

There are four black SUVs in the lot and two parked out front on the busy street at the meters. I know it isn’t Nice, which is why I grab the chocolate-tipped arrow. I make them myself with pure cocoa powder and a flour paste so the tip hardens just enough to penetrate the skin. Vampire skin.

Chocolate is a narcotic for us. Give us enough, and it’ll kill, whereas a small dose has the same effect as alcohol. I’ve yet to sample any since being turned because I’ve been alone with Stella and must be on my guard. Mommy can’t get a chocolate chip cookie buzz until she finds a ninja sitter.

I take my crossbow and exit my Hummer. I might be a librarian, but when it comes to defending my child, I’m a one-woman army. Ready to kick fangs or asses. The ill-fitting, disheveled clothes I wear—below-the-knee skirts, moth-eaten sweaters, and granny glasses—are merely a disguise. Today I have on a wrinkled white blouse, plain tan pants, and a black cardigan that’s all stretched out. People see me and think I couldn’t harm a fly or fight my way out of a paper bag. All part of my Keeper upbringing. Unfortunately, my natural clumsiness is genuine, and so is my lack of love for violence. I can fight, and fight well. It’s just not something that comes naturally or that I enjoy. Even when I was Nice’s prisoner, fear always held me back. And he knew just how to use it to keep me tethered to his side, reading bad poetry, helping him shop online for ruffled shirts, telling him how much I admired his wiry body and long black locks.

The man is a monster.

At least I wasn’t mistreated sexually. Mr. Nice has a rule about not sleeping with humans (apparently they’re too fragile for his bedroom games), but he kept Stella from me. Those are years lost with my daughter, and I’ll never get them back. For that, he’ll pay.

How?

I’m not sure yet, but it’s coming. His day of reckoning for separating me from Michael and then my child, for driving Michael to become a cold-hearted vampire, and for turning me is coming. I love to read, and I’ve always believed a story is only as good as the bad guy. But in real life? The only good bad guy is a dead bad guy. This librarian is coming for you, Nice.

Now for this guy!

Bertha in hand, I pull on the front door of my library. My eyes meet his, and my heart starts hammering against my rib cage, like it’s calling out to him in longing. The sensation jars me and, in some way, shames me. I know he can hear it. Just like I can hear the lack of beating inside his chest. He couldn’t care less about seeing me. He feels nothing.

“What do you want, Michael?” I growl, keeping my weapon pointed at the ground. I know his guards are all around us, waiting to pounce.

“What do I want?” He points to his broad chest, and I try not to notice how good his tall, lean, muscular frame looks in his tailored black suit. Michael Vanderhorst was born over four hundred years ago, but if you saw him walking down the street today, you’d wonder where the Armani shoot was. And I’m not talking runway. I’m talking Christmastime cologne commercial. You know, the ripped, oiled-down guy with deep olive skin in a tight white Speedo, diving into a pristine turquoise ocean. Yeah. That Armani.

Despite being a vampire, Michael is everything hard and male and seductive, with a face that never ages. One look into those dark eyes, and you’re lost forever.

“Yes,” I repeat, “what do you want?”

“You summoned me,” he says in that deep, authoritative voice that doesn’t fit his youthful appearance. It was the one thing that first tipped me off about him not being human. No twenty-year-old I’ve ever met has a voice that can make my toes tingle.

I raise my crossbow and point it at his groin.

“What are you doing?” he growls with those sexy lips.

“I know you have at least a dozen guards surrounding me. Consider it my insurance.”

Michael unfolds his arms. “Mir-librarian-woman, you sent five of my men home in a shoebox. I hardly think you are the one at risk.”

I frown. “What are you talking about?” And why is he calling me Mir-librarian-woman?

His dark eyes narrow in puzzlement. “Please tell me it was you who summoned me.”

I blink, catching on to the situation.

Someone pretending to be me asked him to come here.

I hear a click somewhere in the room. Oh crap!

Before I can scream “run,” Michael charges faster than my new vampire eyes can register.
