Summary:

As the captain of a schooner catering to the elite on the Caribbean Seas, Sebastian Stark does his best to avoid any human encounters. Interacting with people isn’t his thing, and he prefers the company of a bottle of vodka, a shot glass, and maybe a whore. There’s no doubt he’s hiding from a checkered past, but he does well keeping everything to himself…

…until the night his schooner capsizes, and he’s stuck on a life raft with one of the passengers.

Raine’s young, she’s cute, and Bastian would probably be into her if he wasn’t suffering from
alcohol withdrawal. As the days pass, DTs, starvation, and dehydration become the norm. Even the most closed person starts to open up when he thinks he’s going to die, but when she realizes their traumatic pasts are connected, it’s no longer the elements that have Bastian concerned.

He has no idea how he’s going to Survive Raine.

***

Bastian isn’t the most pleasant guy Raine could have ended up with in the middle of the ocean
with no chance of rescue, but he has an uncanny knack for survival. As she digs through the
walls surrounding the stubborn and challenging man, she finds something surprisingly different buried inside…

…and he can answer the question she’s asked for years.

As she learns more about what has brought him to this fate, Raine is determined to drag this self-destructive man back from the edge of the wave. Isolation is her only chance to tear the man out from inside of the animal, but this one has been abused for a long time.

She also has to live long enough to get through to him.

Teaser of Surviving Raine:

“What’s your problem?” I snapped again. I hadn’t really meant to, I was just tense and pissy.

The smoke was helping, but what I really wanted was a drink. I didn’t suppose anyone packed any of those little tiny airplane-sized booze bottles in the survival kits.

“I…um…” she stumbled over her words and looked away. Even under her darkened skin, I could see red creeping into her cheeks.

“What?” I was annoyed now. If she was going to complain about my smoking, I was going to lose it.

“I…have to go to the bathroom.”

I laughed. I took one last long drag, getting it all the way up to the filter before I tossed the butt out onto the waves.

“Then fucking go!”

“Where?”

“Didn’t you notice the en suite bath?” I laughed again, and then took a smidgen of pity on her. “Over the side, where do you think?”

“Well…how?”

All right, she did have a point there. Or rather, she didn’t have a point. Or a pointer. I had to laugh again at my internal joke.

“Just…I don’t know…hang your ass out over the edge. Or get in the water.

Whatever.”

“I’d have to take off my suit.”

“So?”

She blushed again.

“What? You want me to hang out in the next room for a few minutes? I promise I won’t gawk at you.”

She didn’t move. Well, actually, she was still fidgeting around; she just didn’t make a move to actually solve her dilemma. If she kept this up, she was going to pee in the fucking raft.

“If it makes you feel any better, I’ve already checked you out front and back, had my mouth on yours and my hand on your tit, so it’s not like…”

She gasped and covered her mouth with her hands. I realized how what I had said sounded, considering she had been unconscious the entire time. I shook my head.

“I didn’t mean…ah, fuck.” I grabbed my shirt and flopped down on my back, covering my whole face up with the garment. I lay there for a moment but didn’t hear her moving at all, so I yelled at her again. “Get on with it!”

She moved. I could hear her shuffle over to the front of the raft and then move around in one place, presumably taking off her shorts and her bathing suit.

“If you are going to get in the water, put the life preserver around your waist first and hold on to the fucking ladder. I don’t want to have to dive in after your ass again.”

“Okay,” she said. “Um…where is it?”

“Right outside the opening – on the left.”

“Thank you,” she said.

“Whatever.”

I listened to her move around a bit more and then felt her move closer to the opening and off to the side. There was a soft splash, and a minute later I heard her pulling herself back up onto the raft.

“There’s something similar to a towel over there,” I said – flinging my arm out in the
direction of the back of the raft and waving my hand around. “Make sure you dry off the floor, too.”

“Thank you,” she said.

“Whatever.”

I listened to her move around some more, getting pretty fed up with just lying there, baking, with my fucking shirt over my head.

“Are you done yet?”

“Almost,” she said quietly. Her voice still sounded scratchy. “Okay, I’m done.”

I grabbed the shirt off my face and sat up, looking over at her. She was adjusting the straps on her suit and still blushing.

“Do you know why my…um…throat hurts?”

“Yeah,” I said. I didn’t elaborate. After a minute she finally asked.

“Why does my throat hurt?”

“Because you inhaled a shitload of salt water,” I stated. “It fucks up your throat and your vocal cords. Give it a day; it’ll be better.”

“Thank you,” she said, again.

“Whatever,” I replied, again.

I shoved my hand down into the sealed up container for rations and pulled out a carb bar. I tore it in half and threw one of the pieces at her.

“Eat it,” I instructed. “You can have the other half in six hours.”

“Six hours?” she repeated.

“Are you a fucking recorder? Yes, six hours.”

I knew I was being a bastard, but my brain was working overtime trying to figure out what our best course of action might be. Having her here made it ten times more difficult. If it was just me, I was pretty sure I would be fine. There was plenty of food and water for just me. I could fish, I could take care of myself, and I could stay alive under pretty extreme circumstances.

Having her here with me just…complicated everything.

Top 10 Guest Post

Jocelyn…

1. Favorite movie/actor/actress?

I’ve never had time to notice. Would much rather be sneaking out for some fun in town than watching a movie.

2. Favorite song/singer?

Anything that gets my heart pumping. That’s my only criteria.

3. Favorite place you would love to visit?

The new evening school Ms. Veilleux started. I hear she’s posted pictures of the most legendary witches of our world along one of the hallways, and that Jameson and I have been included. We are mounted right next to each other.

4. One item you cannot live without?

Air. Just kidding. My white bracelet. My mother gave it to me and told me to never take it off. She then declined to mention that it has my family stone embedded in it. Now who wouldn’t want to know that? But that’s my mother for you. When I first put on the bracelet, it had been itchy but I’ve grown to love it. It’s a part of me now.

5. Who would you like to meet?(dead or alive)

My dad. He passed away when I was an infant so it would be nice to hold a conversation with him…without it going through Maggie Tanner first.

6. Favorite hobby?

Hobby? What’s that? Something you do when you have free time to spare, I’m guessing. My free time is spent healing others. But if I had time for a hobby, I’d probably want to learn more spells to cast against Charlotte Caldwell. Nothing serious, of course, just a wart here, a pimple there. Hehehe.

7. Guilty pleasure?

Jameson. He’s been off limits to me for a long time so you can probably guess why he was the first one to come to mind.

8. Favorite author and/book?

Pretty much any tome from any author in the Thibodeaux warehouses. Each one seems to have a little history about our world, which I’m still fairly new to understanding.

9. Do you collect anything?

Yes, a little residue of mystical ability from every witch who passes on. I have to be in their presence and we need to be touching, but those are just the particulars.

10. Favorite color?

I’m torn between white and black. White is the color of the bracelet holding my family stone, but black helps to keep you concealed during Vire raids.

This video will tug at your heartstrings – Less Than Human by Ratty and the Watchers

‘Less Than Human’ by Ratty and the Watchers…

Reblogged from Howling for Justice

Once again Dave,  you hit the  ball out of the park with another powerful video. Wolves are the closest relatives of our beloved dogs, separated by just .2% of their DNA, while the difference between wolves and coyotes is 4% . When will the haters open their eyes and see how wolf-like dogs really are?  The amazing qualities canis lupus familiaris possesses evolved from their closest ancestor, the wolf: loyalty, playfulness, intelligence, superior sense of smell, endurance and most of all, love of family.

Our world would be a lonely place without our canine companions. If there were no wolves there would be no dogs. Take off your blinders trophy hunters and stop pretending you’re not killing the wild brothers of your canine friends!

‘Less than Human’

When the canine first became domesticated, dogs were loved and wolves were hated, any links were unrelated by the hordes.
Legends, fairy tales, passed down by generations, spread the lies and accusations, scaring men in every nation of the world.

Science ridiculed with lies, It’s nature, cover up your eyes

We love you, We miss you, We watch over you, We kill you

Less than human how can you look in a mirror, does the truth ever figure, with your finger on the trigger of your gun,
Less than human, where the hating has no boundaries, and the traps spew out of foundries, utilized by evil armies of so-called men

Where politicians compromise, it’s nature, cover up your eyes

We love you, We miss you, We watch over you, We kill you

It’s very rare, in my experience, to find an indie book that is as good as anything that’s gone through a corporate editing process. Way Out Of Here, but to where? And how?

Way Out Of Here

Add To Goodreads

I had won fifty million dollars in the lottery.

I bought everything I wanted. I went everywhere I wanted.

But, something was missing.

One night, unable to sleep, I got out of bed , trying not to rouse the whole house.

I nodded off on the couch and woke up to someone calling my name.

“Nolan!”

No one is here but me. Am I hearing things? Dreaming?

I laughed as Adam described the actions the voice took to make him do as it said.

I was over the toilet, trying to pee, when my shirt moved.

The voice was coming from my navel. You heard me, my navel!

 navel photo: Navel Photo4.jpg

“My name is Gordon Delanolan and I live in your navel.”

As we talked, it told me it knew what I needed.

As I felt sorry for myself, the voice said, “Nolan, don’t go all pussy on me now………I’ll shove a tampon up your ass if you don’t stop it right now, you hear me.”

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos   5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

I purposely put the big “navel” photo in to get your attention. Did it work? Did it make you laugh or gross you out?

I love the cover and the title is appropriate. The font is excellent, giving a foreshadow of things to come. This is a short story that grabbed me in its clutches and took me somewhere I wouldn’t have thought of going. All I could do is hang on for the ride.

The writing is excellent. The story is told with wit and humor.  What happens is pretty damn creepy and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud as I tried to picture the events as they unfolded.

Shades of Twilight zone, but more sophisticated and creepier.

A twist, another twist and a killer ending.

Books like these make me wonder where the ideas come from? What warped and twisted mind could create such a situation? LOL Ask Adam Light and his brother, Evan Light. And they have more for you to be creeped out by, so be sure to check out the author links below.

I picked up this book on a free day from Amazon. Thank you Adam Light.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Adam Light  Besides being the best father and husband I can be, my ultimate goal in life is writing horror fiction that will knock people’s socks off.

I began the journey into writing for the public in the fall of 2011, and I have not looked back since. I admit that I got a late start on it, as I am pushing 40 now, but I believe that an eleventh-hour commencement is preferable to none at all.

I have self-published five short stories to date. The most recent one entitled THE CONTINUANCE AGENCY is the first chapter in a planned series still in progress. This one is a departure for me, and comes as a refreshing turning point in my writing. I look forward to writing longer works, my long term goal being to write full length novels.

I have been humbled and emboldened by all the positive responses to my stories, and thus encouraged to continue my quest. Thanks to all who have read and reviewed my work, giving an unknown author such as myself a chance to unleash my madness upon you.

A “REAL” World Fantasy – Earth Shifter by Lada Ray

WOW! Lada Ray’s blend of history, current events, mythology and fantasy left me in awe.

After checking out my Review, go to the end of the post to enter Lada Ray’s Giveaway and learn about the opportunity to read and review this amazing book for yourself.

.EARTH SHIFTER MASTER

They were the Key of Destiny. They would multiply their power and propel Earth forward or they would destroy it. They are the Earth Shifter.

1908

The Earth Keepers were deciding Earth’s fate. They were the record keepers, moderators and ultimate decision makers. Should they allow the Comet of Karma to determine the Earth’s fate or should they intervene to save the planet? As they talked, Tengis, one of the Keepers, told the others that the Key of Destiny would be both male and female – yin and yang, receptive and assertive. If they did not save the Earth now, the Key may be destroyed. Their vote was to allow the Comet to run its course.

comet photo: comet comet.jpg

2011

Sasha and her father, Maxim Elfimov, where camping at their secret spot on Lake Baikal in Russia. Tengis, her mentor, was with them. He began to tell them of the Tunguska Meteorite Explosion,103 years ago. He went on to say, that the Comet was sent to Lake Baikal, because no people lived there. The Keepers had saved mankind from the Comet of Karma in 1908. But, the Keepers agreed not to interfere again. If Earth was to be saved this time, it must be done by free will.

As Sasha drifted off to sleep, she dreamt of the end of Earth. Tengis and Maxim looked at each other. She had the Vision. Time was running out.

lake baikal photo: Panorama of Baikal Lake P5150291.jpg

Sasha Elfinmova is the Key of Destiny, the female key. She is also a Time and Mind Shifter. Her mentor, Tengis, is a famous Siberian Shaman. Her father, Maxim Elfimov, is a Moscow University professor of linguistics and her mother, Olga, worked for Russia’s richest man, Boris Konukorsky, CEO of Norus, the country’s largest oil company. Her father and mother were her Protectors, humans, whose mission was to assist the Key of Destiny. They were there as a sacrifice to help save Humanity from itself. If Humanity refuses help from the Key of Destiny, Karma intervenes and restarts Earth’s clock.

There are four types of Shifters: Mind Shifters can access any thoughts. Matter shifters can turn into anything or turn objects into something else. Time Shifters can bend and jump time. Space Shifters can compress space, appearing at different places at once. The Keepers watched them from birth, because misuse of their power could be catastrophic. A case in point is Hitler.

When Sasha was young, they found she was an Intellect Shifter, unique on the earthly plane. She was a true Mind Shifter. She was bored at school, so she would tap into minds, just to pass the time. Until Misha Siuzin appeared. When she tapped into his mind, she found a Kindred Spirit and they became best friends. Shortly after, she became friends with Zeena and school became more fun.

Sasha could also time travel. For three years she traveled randomly, or so she thought. Slowly she began to see a pattern to her travels..

Late one night, Olga received a call to return to the office. It was very unusual, but there was no way she could say no. She wondered if they could have found out her secret? After she left the office, the man in black, who had sat quietly as she talked, said it was her. Boris Konukorsky told him to take care of it, tonight. Olga still didn’t realize what was happening as the truck pushed her car through the guard rail.

In NYC Win and Kei were playing chicken on their new bikes, weaving through the cars. Kei heard a woman calling for help. The brothers raced to help the man. Win felt as if he was flying over the traffic, gently settling back down when they reached the man. (Made me think of ET and the kids flying on their bikes as they try to elude the feds). It felt supernatural to him. The twins worked over the man until he began to breathe again. When Kei looked up from the man, he saw her. She winked at him.

Win and Kei’s parents had been there for Yunn Lin when she was pregnant with Hao. She returned the favor, when  the boy’s mother had been ill after their birth. In her delirium, the mother had mentioned a Key. Now Yunn Lin would betray her to save her own son.

Assistant CIA Director, Aloysius Drakely, received a call from Yunn Lin. She told him what she knew. She told him of the Key – two children born 30 days apart, who would open the door to a new era. For that to happen, they must come together. They would multiply their power and propel Earth forward or destroy it. They are the Earth Shifter.

 earth photo: Earth EARTH.jpg

Drakely couldn’t let anyone else hear about it. He would betray everyone and everything to get what he wanted. He went to the Society, which consisted of the elite, those raised above us commoners, whether by birth, wealth or talent. They were bestowed with great power. and wanted Ultimate Global Dominance. No one and nothing would stand in their way.

The Keepers had allowed Maxim to wait until Sasha was sixteen to tell her of her destiny, but now she had to know. Time was running out and only she could save Earth from its ultimate destruction.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos   5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

Originally, it was the cover that made me notice the book. It was not only beautiful, but made me wonder what the book was about. Combining history, science-fiction and the paranormal makes this a unique read.

Lada Ray’s writing, the depth and detail of Russia and its history intertwined with the fantasy of the Earth Shifters, takes you on a fantastic journey towards Earth’s end or it’s new beginning. I was lost, as I dove into Sasha’s story, only coming up for a breath of air as I raced through the final pages. I was crushed when I reached the end, wanting so badly to continue reading.

The storyline reads like the current events of today.

The Mayan calendar with the date 12-21-12. The end of the world. Armageddon.

Since the end of the cold war with the USSR, the CIA has nothing to do. They can’t fight China, seeing they own trillion of dollars of our debt and supply most of our goods. So, what else can they do? How about the USSR, again, with its gangs, mafia, and corruption.

The Society operates like our politicians today, above the laws of us commoners.  The misuse and manipulation of power overwhelms the headlines today. It seems they feel as if it is their right and they deserve whatever it is they are after, bar none. Sound familiar?

I am a bit of a conspiracy believer. When Lada Ray wrote about Ultimate Global Dominance, it brought to mind a thought I had. There is a small group of the elite, MEN rolling in money, who control and manipulate world events. Do you think this is possible?

The book relates so much to real life and real events. As I read along, the book telling of money laundering, tax evasion, treason, greed………. I would forget it wasn’t a true historical novel, but fantasy.

Recycled – a term used for taking out humans who had not earned the right to move to the next level, the rest died. I once went to a seminar where they talked about recycled employees. They were employees no one wanted, so they “passed” them on to another company just to get rid of them.

Keys would unlock the door to a new era. Some other Keys were – Buddha, Jesus and it definitely went wrong with Hitler.

“Ancient Greeks emphasized two disciplines – philosophy translated as “the love of wisdom” and philology translated as “the love of the word”. And of course the word logos also gave birth to the contemporary word “logic”.

I can hardly wait for Book II, which is due out the Winter of 2013-2014.

I received this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.

About the true story of the Tunguska Meteorite Explosion

Don’t look for sword fights or deadly lightning bolts, as the powers described here are much more subtle, and therefore, infinitely more Earth Shifting!

A girl who needs to undo the past.
A boy who wants to forget it.
In love, there’s no way back.

At high school in Steep Hill, Kansas, Cassie O’Malley and Josh MacBride were the poster couple for quarterback/cheerleader romance until they starred in their own tale of teen pregnancy. No need to say: their shotgun wedding was low-key. But when there was no baby anymore, they went their separate ways.

Five years later, Josh has breezed through Georgetown and is about to finish his post-grad degree at Oxford University. He is set to join a lobbying group on Capitol Hill, owned by his new fiancée’s father. For Josh, the sky is now the limit… only he must first take care of a tiny legal matter: technically, he’s still married to the girl who broke his heart.

Meanwhile, Cassie has been waiting tables in Steep Hill to pay for her sick grandmother’s care. On the day of the old lady’s funeral, Cassie is served with two sets of papers. Josh is asking for a divorce. Her heart squeezes, but, well, he moved on a long time ago. But the second envelope shakes Cassie to the core. So, for the first time, she leaves Kansas and heads to good ol’ England.

There, Cassie finds that Josh has not just “moved on,” he’s freakin’ engaged to some blue-blooded heiress. The feelings Cassie had buried deep rush back to her. But no matter if he keeps thrusting the divorce papers under her nose, she needs him to save the only person she loves more than Josh, more than life itself…

Wild horses couldn’t keep me away from Moonlit by Jadie Jones

.Moonlit

MOONLIT by Jadie Jones

Eighteen-year-old Tanzy Hightower knows horses, has grown up with them on Wildwood Farm. She also knows not to venture beyond the trees that line the pasture. Things happen out there that can’t be explained. Or undone. Worse, no one but she and the horses can see what lurks in the shadows of the woods.

When a moonlit ride turns into a terrifying chase, Tanzy is left to question everything, from the freak accident that killed her father to the very blood in her veins. Broken and confused, she turns to Lucas, a scarred, beautiful stranger, and to Vanessa, a charming new friend who has everything Tanzy doesn’t.

But why do they seem to know more about her than she knows herself?

 PRAISE for Moonlit

“Virginia’s trees look like they’re burning. Most of them blaze crimson or gold, but some still have a chokehold on their green. I wish they’d give it up already. Leaves are more beautiful when they’re dying.”

And so Moonlit begins. From here the story rolls from one twist to another with many vivid characters whose motives are hard to predict. I found myself being suspicious of everyone, wanting to tell Tanzy to be very careful. The deeper I fell into the plot, the more questions kept rising to the surface. But not to worry, all of my questions were answered. Appropriate for all ages, if you love paranormal fantasy mixed with suspense, mystery and other-worldly romance, you’ll love this novel!

PROLOGUE

The first anniversary of my father’s death was even harder on my mother. Back then, I thought she was haunted most by what she didn’t know. I refused to blame her when she raged above me on our staircase that night, drunk and sad and angry. When she made me promise I’d never ride again. When she hurled a half-full bottle of vodka at my face and it exploded on the wooden stairs at my feet. I hadn’t tried to get out of the way. She had just missed.
I wanted to tell her that knowledge was no solace, that what you know can burn inside you until there’s nothing left but guilt and ash. I also wanted to protect her from losing the only piece of him she had left. So I didn’t say a word.

AUTHOR JODIE JONES

Georgia native Jadie Jones first began working for a horse farm at twelve years old, her love of horses matched only by her love of books. She went on to acquire a B.A. in equine business management, and worked for competitive horse farms along the east coast. The need to write followed wherever she went.
She currently coaches a hunt seat equitation team that competes in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association, and lives with her family in the foothills of north Georgia. When she’s not working on the next installment of the Moonlit series, she is either in the saddle or exploring the great outdoors with her daughter. Moonlit is her first book.
