Dragon’s Pearl –

Book Four of Sheryl Locke Holmes Mystery Series

by C.L. Exline

BLURB:

Pearls fell like raindrops from the sky while the dragons fought. Silvery fingers of mist cast eerie shadows upon the ocean waves as the struggle raged overhead. Three beings watched the battle, until they noticed blood on the full moon.  Someone would die. They clasped hands and chanted.

Blood on the moon signifies death for some unlucky victim, and someone is gunning for Sheryl. Now, Sheryl and her cohorts must solve the mystery of the haunted music box and a ghost before the killer gets his prey.

EXCERPT

. When Sheryl’s best friend insists there is a ghost haunting Bridgeside, her soon to be open Bed & Breakfast, Sheryl decides to spend the night to prove Amber wrong.

In no time, Sheryl was snuggled under the covers. The bed felt wonderful, the house was quiet, and  soon she dreamed of dragons. The tinny sound of music woke her. Sheryl sat up and rubbed her eyes. The music box was open and it was playing. She closed the lid, went to the doorway, and stepped into the hall. Humming reached her from downstairs. Sheryl hurried to the stairs and saw a woman wearing a flowing gray ruffly dress walking across the foyer, past the staircase, and toward the blue room.

“Brian! Brian! Wake up!” Keeping her hand firm on the banister and her eyes glued on the woman, Sheryl hurried down the steps. “Brian!” With both hands on the sides of the doorway, she leaned in and called out, “Brian!”

He bolted up. His arms and legs were entangled in the blankets. He struggled to get free and fell to the floor.

“Get up, Brian. She’s in here.” Sheryl glanced around but saw no one and flipped on the top light for a better look.

Amber’s screams cut through Sheryl like a knife. She whirled around and raced up the steps. An unconscious Amber lay on the floor. “Brian! Hurry!” Sheryl knelt down and patted Amber’s face. “Wake up, Amber.”

The sound of screechy music caught Sheryl’s attention. The music box. Torn between wanting to investigate and knowing she should remain, she yelled, “Brian!”

Heavy footsteps heralded Brian’s arrival. “I’m here. What is it?”

“Watch Amber.” Sheryl jumped to her feet and hurried into the red bedroom. The lid she’d shut moments earlier was open. The gold cylinder churned out a chilling tune. She glanced around the empty room before closing the lid. She’d barely reached the doorway when the lid flipped open and once more the music played. Her breath caught. She stared at the music box.

Kara Magari is about to discover a beautiful world full of terrifying things–Ourea.

Kara, a college student still reeling from her mother’s recent death, has no idea the hidden world of Ourea even exists until a freak storm traps her in a sunken library. With no way out, she opens an ancient book of magic called the Grimoire and unwittingly becomes its master, which means Kara now wields the cursed book’s untamed power. Discovered by Ourea’s royalty, she becomes an unwilling pawn in a generations-old conflict–a war intensified by her arrival. In this world of chilling creatures and betrayal, Kara shouldn’t trust anyone… but she’s being hunted and can’t survive on her own. She drops her guard when Braeden, a native soldier with a dark secret, vows to keep her safe. And though she doesn’t know it, her growing attraction to him may just be her undoing.

For twelve years, Braeden Drakonin has lived a lie. The Grimoire is his one chance at redemption, and it lands in his lap when Kara Magari comes into his life. Though he begins to care for this human girl, there is something he wants more. He wants the Grimoire.

EXCERPT

The air in the submerged library stalled, stagnant and suddenly heavy. The muscles between Kara’s shoulders tightened, and her neck tensed.

Hidden deep within the desk before her was a thick sheet of parchment paper. Kara set this aside, covered as it was in an illegible, spidery script. The book’s faded red leather was porous and soft, its title written in gold lettering that had long ago begun to chip so that now, only spotted lines comprised the runic letters.

The chains wrapped around the cover like metal vines, and instead of a padlock, they had all been fused together in the book’s center. In this mess of iron was a small silver pendant, hung from a short chain and set into the fused metal like a key in a lock. It was the same symbol that had appeared on the door: a crude four-leaf clover comprised of thin crescent moons. A brilliant diamond glittered from its center.

Her hands inched along the pages trapped beneath the odd lock and brushed the silver vines in the process. The metal burned her fingertips. She dropped the book, which thumped on the desk. Pain shot through her arm.

Someone whispered in her ear.

She whipped her head around and held her breath, but the library was empty and quiet once more. Her shoulders tensed, and her body told her to run, run! But there was nowhere to run to. The library had no door and only one inaccessible window.

Maybe she wasn’t supposed to open the book. The thought alone made her want to open it even more.

She sat in the chair, tore off a bit of her sleeve, wrapped it around her hand, and dug her thumbnail beneath the pendant. It shifted. The cold vines stung her thumb through the fabric, but she gritted her teeth and jiggled the pendant again. The necklace moved above her finger and finally popped. Something else clicked.

The sound of metal slithering over fabric made her freeze. The iron vines unwound themselves and fell from the book, and for the second time that day, she suppressed a scream as inanimate things moved. The metal twisted away, clattering to the floor.

The air thickened again, weighing on her neck. A shiver raced down her back. Her hips pressed into the chair, as if someone was pushing hard on her shoulders. Another whisper chorused in her ear. Even though her breath caught in her throat, she didn’t try to find the source. She doubted anything would be there if she looked.

This couldn’t be real.

Of course, Gabriel wants to wait till Holly’s health is restored, much to Holly’s dismay. She feels perfectly fine. So what if she just woke up from an eight-month coma? That is, until HE enters her life again . . . she forgot about HIM.

MY REVIEW

I can’t help but eat up taylor dean’s books, like the M & Ms that I love. She makes me so tense, sitting on the edge of my chair, racing through the pages. An amazing writer. She can tell a story that makes you hold your breath, as you wait in suspense for the tale to play out.

“He’d finally killed her,” went through her mind as her body struggled to bring her back to the land of the living.

I Have People

“I have people, people who care about me. You two are my favorite people.”

Eight months of her life gone, but now Angela, Gabe and Holly were together. She knew they were keeping secrets, but the amnesia and her physical therapy kept her so busy, she would forget about pursuing it.

lazarus photo: Lazarus Lazarus-1.jpg

She had risen from the dead, like a modern day Lazarus. She had to learn to walk again, and she mixed up words, becoming confused. The amnesia had stripped her of memories of herself, but the memories of her love for Gabriel were still there.

She would awake in the night, alone and afraid. She knew something wasn’t quite right, but couldn’t figure out what it was. She wanted Gabriel with her, but he insisted on sleeping separately until she recovered.

Gabriel was doing his best to recreate their dates. She thought he was trying to help her remember. He made her feel like a princess, made her feel safe, warm and happy. She couldn’t keep her hands off him, so strong was the love she felt for him.

When she awoke in the morning, the first thing she thought of was Gabriel, the first thing she said was his name.

baby photo: baby fingers baby_hands_zps99ddd5ee.jpgThey got married, went on a honeymoon and bought a new house to begin their life together.. She thought that life couldn’t get any better, except for her desire to have a child.

Gabriel kissed her goodby as he headed off to work. She noticed a car parked across the street, but quickly forgot about it. She went to the grocery store and saw it again.

That night, she answered the door and the glass she was holding dropped, shattering at her feet. She knew the evil looking man at her door and the memories of HIM came rushing back.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos   5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

I think I spent more time deleting what I wrote, than actually writing it. I did not want to give the book away, so it was very difficult to figure out what to tell you. This book may not be for everyone, but I feel everyone should read it. Sometimes all it takes to make a difference in someone’s life, is to let them know you care.

An amazing story of life and how the people around us can help us overcome the bad in our life and enable us to rise above it.

taylor dean can weave a story that will keep you on pins and needles. As Holly remembers, tears form in my eyes. The suspense and anticipation of what is to come, makes my heart beat faster, my palms sweat and chills run up and down my spine.

To write about domestic abuse cannot be easy. The fear and terror a person experiences as they are being terrorized by someone they love and trust, must be one of the worst things that can happen to a woman. taylor dean handles it with style and grace.

Gabriel is a boy scout. Squeaky clean, kind, gentlemanly, helps people, courteous and polite. He doesn’t even curse, helps her put on her coat………pulls out the chair for her.

He would pull the chair out…………………….

“You need to learn to fall gracefully.”

“Why do you always hurt yourself? You’re so damn breakable.”

This is another roller-coaster ride, compliments of taylor dean. The range of emotions she covers go from heaven to hell, and everything in between.

I can’t remember if I received this book in return for a review, but it doesn’t really matter. I want to read anything and everything she writes and I will always review it. So, stay tuned for more.

SYNOPSIS

Her heart races, her muscles coil, and every impulse in Alessa’s body screams at her to run… but yet she’s powerless to move.

Still struggling to find her footing after the sudden death of her parents, the last thing college freshman Alessa has the strength to deal with is the inexplicable visceral pull drawing her to a handsome ghostly presence. In between grappling with exams and sorority soirees – and disturbing recurring dreams of being captive in a futuristic prison hell – Alessa is determined to unravel the mystery of the apparition who leaves her breathless. But the terrifying secret she uncovers will find her groping desperately through her nightmares for answers.

Because what Alessa hasn’t figured out yet is that she’s not really a student, the object of her obsession is no ghost, and her sneaking suspicions that something sinister is lurking behind the walls of her university’s idyllic campus are only just scratching the surface…

The opening installment in a twist-laden trilogy, Stitch spans the genres of paranormal romance and dystopian sci-fi to explore the challenges of a society in transition, where morality, vision, and pragmatism collide leaving the average citizen to suffer the results.

Praise

Refreshingly intelligent and loads of fun!

I lost a few hours as I read this book. It’s a Young Adult novel that is refreshingly and astonishingly intelligent, and the love story is perfectly played out.

~Christine Ashworth, Amazon Review

The mystery was intriguing – I loved how Wendy Russo weaved in all her secrets throughout the book, how she incorporated just enough to keep you reading, while never actually divulging much of anything. I was guessing for most of it and that’s pretty hard to make me do.

~Julie, Clean Teen Reads

Wendy Russo has created a masterpiece.

Description:

Preston Mitchell, undercover DEA agent, has led a life of danger and obscurity. Knowing his job would never allow a normal relationship, he’s never opened himself up to any woman…that is until the lovely Avery Middleton stumbles into his life.

To the outsider, Avery has it all…wealth, family, connections and a great job. But on the inside, she’s miserable. Her social life is in the dumpster, the kooky gal next door has some zany plans for her and her selfish mother drives Avery to the point of insanity. Her only salvation is to get out of Charleston and start a new life. So that’s precisely what she does. She moves to Seattle and steps right into the path of hot and sexy, Preston.

Unfortunately for both of them, Avery ends up being in the wrong place at the wrong time and is now running for her life. But she’s not alone. She has a gorgeous DEA agent protecting her and suddenly finds herself irresistibly captivated by him. There’s only one problem. Preston carries more than his share of mental baggage, courtesy of his job. His covert missions have put him in places and situations he can barely stand to think about. Avery rocks Preston’s world because she is nothing like anyone he’s ever met and something extraordinary begins to happen between them.  But can their love survive in this world, where danger, intrigue and deception lurk on every corner?

KISSING FIRE: Teaser

Boy oh boy, was Preston hot. Make that boiling. Scorching. Molten lava kind of hot. Messy dark brown, slightly wavy hair that was not long but not short either. And, oh what a mouth he had. His mouth made me want to jump on board and ride that train for life. His lips were the perfect kind of full and every so often, he’d run his tongue across them and I’d automatically squirm. His face was pure angular perfection…high cheekbones with those slight hollows beneath them, that were the perfect shape to accommodate my lips. But those eyes…my oh my. They were golden brown, like coffee with lots of cream. I could only imagine what they looked like right when he was…

Cheezits Ava, get your head out of the bedroom!

“Wouldn’t you agree Ava?” my brother was asking me.

I shook my head and swallowed. “I’m sorry, what did you say?”

“We were talking about the weather here in the summer and I was saying how much more pleasant it is than in Charleston?”

“Oh, yes it is.” Was my voice breathy sounding, or was it my imagination?

Preston was wearing jeans that rode low on his hips. They were tight and he had a superior set of buns. What would I pay to see those babies?

“Ava? What do you think?” someone asked.

“Buns!” I blurted out.

“Excuse me?” Caroline, my sister-in-law, asked.

Holy Toledo, did I just say buns out loud? What the hell Ava!!!

“Fun! Anything sounds fun!” I quickly said.

“Ava, you look a little flushed. Are you sure you’re feeling okay?”

“Hot! I mean no, I’m fine.” I looked across the room and my face totally flamed. Everyone was staring at me. I had unbuttoned my blouse and was fanning myself. I’d noticed that Preston had a gloriously hot tattoo of a sideways cross on his arm. I think I needed to go home.

“So Avery, where are you staying?” Caroline asked.

“Oh, I’m at the Four Sexy. Seasons! I mean the Four Seasons.”

Oh dear God, I need to get my act together here.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

  A.M. Hargrove

One day on her way home from work as a sales manager, A. M. Hargrove realized her life was on fast forward and if she didn’t do something soon, it would quickly be too late to write that work of fiction she had been dreaming of her whole life. So, she rolled down the passenger window of her fabulous (not) company car and tossed out her leather briefcase. Luckily, the pedestrian in the direct line of fire was a dodgeball pro and had über quick reflexes enabling him to avoid getting bashed in the head. Feeling a tad guilty about the near miss, A. M. made a speedy turn down a deserted side street before tossing her crummy, outdated piece-of-you-know-what laptop out the window. She breathed a liberating sigh of relief, picked up her cell phone and hit #4 on her speed dial.
“Hello.”
“Boss, is that you?”
“Why yes A.M., who else would be answering my phone?”
“Er… right. Well, I’m calling to let you know you can pick up my luxury Ford Focus at Starbucks near the interstate because I quit.”
A.M. hit the end button and speed dialed her husband.
“Hi hubs, can you pick me up at Starbucks?”
“Sure hon… having some car trouble?”
“Not at all. I need a ride because I just quit my job.”
“You WHAT?!”
“It’s time for a new career and I am going to be a very famous novelist.”
So began A. M. Hargrove’s career as a young adult paranormal romance author of self-published ebooks.

Well, it didn’t happen exactly like that. The real story is that after years as a successful sales manager in the world of pharmaceuticals, her company was gobbled up by a larger one and her career came to a screeching halt. Always one to look at the glass as being half full, she took the job loss as an opportunity to forge down the path of her life-long dream– that of becoming a writer. Her series, The Guardians of Vesturon, centers around a family of six siblings and is a mix of humor, mystery, suspense and of course, love. The books in the series are listed in order: Beginnings (a prequel novella), Survival, Resurrection and Determinant.  Beginnings can be read at any time and Determinant, even though it is the third book in the series, can be read as a stand alone novel.

Synopsis for Lighthouse Reef
.
Bubbly, go-getter Kinsey Wyatt is determined to prove she’s more than capable of taking over Aaron Hartley’s law practice. She’s only been in town a short time herself when she meets the newest arrival, the surly, sculptor Logan Donnelly. She’s far from impressed with the arrogant, secretive man. Right from the start, they clash over most everything, including the fact Logan wants to be left alone. No one knows he’s returned to a town he hates. But since he’s bought the Smuggler’s Bay Lighthouse in hopes of restoring it to the way it was, it’s a little difficult for him to hire help while ignoring the entire town. Through it all, Kinsey keeps wearing him down, making him want things he shouldn’t want, at least not in this town. But fate has a way of calling the shots when he least expects it. When Kinsey learns what he’s hiding—it will pull both of them into Pelican Pointe’s disturbing past—a past that brings secrets creeping from the shadows around lighthouse reef.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
.

Vickie McKeehan  Vickie is the author of seven novels, including The Evil Trilogy and the Pelican Pointe series. She’s a hardcore lover of books who grew up listening to her mother tell fascinating stories about ghosts and other tales full of characters she wasn’t sure ever really existed.

A self-proclaimed beachgoer and ocean-lover, she lives in Southern California with the love of her life. When she isn’t working on her next manuscript or screenplay, she loves to be outdoors.

In her spare time she tries to grow things which other people commonly refer to as gardening. She loves reading all kinds of books, both fiction and non-fiction, loves to play video games, and enjoys watching football with the hubby. If you’ve ever read any of her books, you know she’s a die-hard Raider fan, which means she has the patience of Job.

She lives for chocolate, but then who doesn’t? She’ll kill for a cup of coffee in the morning. She’s convinced the best food on earth is French fries. And she could easily be a vegetarian if it wasn’t for bacon.

New Release – What Matters Most by Bette Lee Crosby

Bette has invited you to the event: Fans, Friends & Followers Celebration.

As an unpublished manuscript it won the Royal Palm Literary Award in 2012.

What Matters Most is a heartwarming story about coping with the challenges of friendship, marriage, and unwelcome changes. It is at times poignant and yet you will find some rollicking laugh-out-loud moments with the Southern humor I’m best known for.

GOODREADS BLURB:

Louise Palmer is a settled-down person. A woman who wants nothing more than to remain in the same house until the day she dies. When her husband, Clay, announces an intention to quit his job and move to Florida, her life is thrown into a turmoil of mixed emotions and strained loyalties. Torn between Clay’s desire for “the good life” and the lifelong friendships of her quilting club, Louise struggles with what to do…until her best friend hatches a scheme to thwart the move.

Before she discovers the truth of what matters most, a marriage will be tested, family relationships will fall apart and the friendships Louise tried to hold onto will change dramatically.

As a way of saying Thank you to the many fans, friends & followers who made this past year so spectacular, my newest novel WHAT MATTERS MOST is being released early and with a special $2.99 price for fans, friends and followers. This is a limited time offer that is not being advertised to the general public. When this book makes its official debut in early May, it will be priced at $5.99 – so grab it quick!

And yes, even though this is a private sale event, please feel free to invite your book-loving buddies.

I’m super happy to say this book is available on both Kindle and Nook and a paperbsck version will be available for the official book launch.
