Review – All Those Who Came Before By Kathryn Meyer Griffith @KathrynG64

.

All Those Who Came Before is the sixth book in the Spookie Town Murder Mystery series by Kathryn Meyer Griffith. I don’t know how she keeps coming up with such amazing, fresh stories for the series, but she has been doing a smash up job.

MY REVIEW

Green skies…do you know what they mean? A storm is coming…

A short cut home…

An abandoned house…calling to her. Town folks thought it was haunted because of the family that was murdered there. In Spookie town, I have no doubt of it. BUT, Kathryn Meyer Griffith gives me more than I expect when I crack open one of her books and that makes me happy.

Along with getting updates on what’s been shaking in Spookie Town and the characters that live there, we have a couple of mysteries going on and lots of danger. We have soooo many people to worry about and I am very worried. I have grown to love and care for them and wish them only the best….but…well, you know, we gotta have action. I won’t say who I am most worried about, but I will recommend not putting things off when something doesn’t feel right.

I have a good idea of what the mystery is, but boy oh boy, Kathryn Meyer Griffith pulls out all the stops and gives me those twists, turns and book surprises that I look for to make a book stand out.

A past mystery will be solved, an injustice righted and a wedding celebration is in order.

There seemed to be some repetition, but the story kept flowing and my interest never waned. Good times, bad times, Kathryn Meyer Griffith left me with a smile on my face, hoping for more mysteries and laughter with these fun and quirky characters.

GOODREADS BLURB

This sixth Spookie Town Murder Mystery belongs primarily to Abigail and Frank Lester, my two main characters in the six book series. It’s their turn. First off, it at long last solves the enigma of Abigail’s first husband Joel Sutton’s disappearance, and death, a decade before…the tragic event that sent Abigail to Spookie in the first place to begin a new life. The new life that would grow so big as to include a new love, a new family, quirky, but well-meaning friends, and the strange murder mysteries her new friends would drag her into over the years. As an unsolicited, and unwanted, envelope arrives from Abigail’s now dead detective she’d hired a decade before to find her missing first husband, its contents sends Frank searching for the truth. The envelope’s files are full of disturbing facts concerning the unsolved crime and it piques Frank’s interest. Soon, against Abby’s wishes, he’s on the cold trail of what actually happened to Joel Sutton–had he been a victim of just an accident, as some have always believed, or did someone murder him? In his search for the truth, Frank ends up in lethal danger when the investigation comes to a violent conclusion. This story is also about an infamous haunted house at 707 Suncrest, in the woods; about the cold blooded murders of a whole family that occurred there forty years before. Is the house on Suncrest truly haunted by the ghosts of the dead family? Is it dangerous? When Abby decides to paint a series of canvases of the spooky old house, she’ll find out. Then along with those two new mysteries to unravel, of course, all of Spookie’s quirky town characters have returned to irritate, amuse and sleuth with Abby and Frank. Will they get out of these new mysteries alive, too? Perhaps.

Witches Among Us by Kathryn Meyer Griffith @KathrynG64

.

Witches Among Us by Kathryn Meyer Griffith is the fourth book in the Spookie Town Murder Mystery series. I have loved all the previous books, so I open my Kindle with sweet anticipation.

Witches Among Us (Spookie Town Murder Mysteries #4)

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Witches Among Us by Kathryn Meyer Griffith is the fourth book in the Spookie Town Murder Mystery series. I have loved the previous three, so I figure there is a great chance that I will love this one too. Each book can stand alone, but I think the characters are ones you may want to know better and find out how they came to be where they are now.

We start out with Myrtle pulling her wagon and singing a song. She is such a wonderful character and Kathryn Meyer Griffith has brought her to life through her writing. She may not be the main character, but she is so original and unique and fabulous, that she has become my favorite. She is eccentric and would have appeared wacko, but the townspeople know otherwise.

Myrtle is afraid that the past is catching up with her. Her and her sister, Estelle have been hiding in Spookie for fifty five years. Had the witches found them?

She comes to Frank and Abigail because they can fix anything.

I quickly became engrossed in this magical mystery as Myrtle’s group of friends and family come together to face the danger and solve the mystery. The more time I spend in the small town of Spookie, with its almost ever present fog, the more I enjoy it.

I love Witches Among Us and Kathryn Meyer Griffith kept me in the dark about the details of the mystery. She manages to keep me guessing: who, what, why, where, how…

Good magic, bad magic, who will prevail? Shows…you can run but you can’t hide from your past. It will catch up to you and then…

GOODREADS BLURB

Spookie is a quaint village often cloaked in fog and filled with mysteries. The usual eccentric characters are here for their fourth murder mystery and the case is one which really hits close to home this time for Myrtle, the town’s Perry Como singing and wagon-pulling bag lady. Her sister Evelyn, the local animal hoarder, is missing. Strange miniature figures fashioned of twigs are found hanging from one of Evelyn’s trees as warnings. Because of them Myrtle fears a coven of wanted-to-be witches she once knew, and escaped from, almost sixty years ago could be behind the kidnapping because she stole their ancient black grimoire–and they want it back. But Myrtle doesn’t want to let them have it because she believes the grimoire could be dangerously real. The book mustn’t fall into the wrong hands and the old coven’s hands are covered in blood. So Myrtle again seeks Frank and Abigail’s help in getting her sister back, alive, and in protecting the grimoire. What they don’t know is a fourth addition to their team of sleuths, a mysterious psychic and new addition to the town, will emerge and join the battle…but whose side will she be on? Is she merely a psychic or is she something more? And will they get Evelyn back alive or will the old witches find and possess the grimoire first? The fourth Spookie Town Murder Mystery.

Ghosts Beneath Us by Kathryn Meyer Griffith @KathrynG64

I found Kathryn Meyer Griffith through blogging and once I started reading her work, I never looked back. Be sure and check out all my reviews below and don’t forget to read this one. It’s another fun trip to Spookie town.

Ghosts Beneath Us (Spookie Town Murder Mysteries, #3)

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Oh man, it’s good to be back with Abigail, Frank, Myrtle and the gang in Spookie Town. Not only do we have a murder mystery, but we have a little bit of the supernatural going on. Is it good or bad? I’ll leave that for you to find out for yourself.

Myrtle is an eccentric (?) who sees ghosts and I love how she pops in and out of Abigail and Frank’s life. Abigail and Frank are a couple, but they have yet to make that final decision, to live together. Abigail has two children that she took in when they were orphaned. You can find the details out in All Things Slip Away and it is a wonderful story.

Abigail got up in the morning and as soon as she stepped outside felt something…was in the air…and it didn’t feel good. Myrtle comes to Abigail with a request. Will she help her neighbor, who is being haunted by a ghost? Bumps in the night doesn’t begin to describe what she is going through.

They are not ghost whisperers, ghost busters, or ghost hunters, but they will get to the bottom of the mystery of the burglaries, hauntings, missing people, and dead bodies. Just because they are older and quickly dismissed by the small town police, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening and someone must step in before something else happens.

Are the police just inept, lazy and useless, or are they part of the problem? That is one of the things I love about small towns, the unique, fun, and interesting characters that add as much to the story as the mystery we are here to solve.

BUT, also in a small town:

“You’re one of us. Remember I told you, we take care of our own in Spookie. That’s what we do.”

GOODREADS BLURB

Someone is terrorizing the elderly in a certain neighborhood in Spookie and vandalizing their homes. As usual, Abigail Sutton, a freelance artist, and her boyfriend Frank Lester, a retired homicide detective, are called in to help find out who’s doing these awful acts. The two seem to have an uncanny knack for unraveling mysteries and getting to the bottom of such strange happenings. Some of the old people think it’s ghosts in their basements, in their homes, doing these destructive deeds but Frank doesn’t believe in ghosts; while Abigail isn’t so sure. Then the old folks begin to disappear one by one or to die suspiciously and Frank thinks there’s a sinister plan behind the crimes and is determined to uncover who or what is responsible. In the end, they, with a little help from their friend eccentric old Myrtle, must solve the mystery or more of the old ones in town might end up dead. Sequel to Scraps of Paper (Spookie Town Murder Mystery #1) and All Things Slip Away (Spookie Town Murder Mystery #2)
