One Sentence Review – Winter Arrives by Roz Marshall @RozMarshallAuth

.

Winter Arrives by Roz Marshall is a series that is nearly complete, so don’t hesitate to pick it up if it sounds like a good one to you. This is not my first Roz Marshall book and it will not be my last.

I like this pretty cover by Alba Covers.

Winter Arrives (Secrets in the Snow, #1)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY ONE SENTENCE REVIEW

It’s freezing, the heat is off, no oil in the tank, no money in the bank account…even though the story was predictable, some troubles and some romance, I quickly fell for the characters in this short episode

GOODREADS BLURB

Everybody has something to hide

Jude Winters is confident in one thing – she has no idea how to run a ski school. But a missing husband and mounting bills mean she’s going to have to find out fast. The hard way.

Mike Cole has skied nearly everywhere in the world. Now it’s time to tick Scotland off his list, before he kicks the snow from his boots and carries on with his Kiwi version of walkabout.

But things aren’t always what they seem. And even wanderlust can sometimes be sated.

Winter Arrives” is the first novella from the ‘Secrets in the Snow‘ series about a Scottish snowsports school.

Episodes 2-5 and 3 short stories are also available. The series will complete in 2015 with Episode 6.

Sherry’s Shelves #198 – Are You Ready For Some…Football & Freebies #football #freebooks

Sherry’s Shelves #198 is my blog update from 10.6.19 – 10.12.19.

LATEST HAPPENINGS

Hi All. I am watching College Gameday as I prepare this post. All I can say is GO BLUE. Do you watch football or have a favorite team? Well, not really a lot happening around the fundinmental household. Been doing some reading, some blogging, some yardwork and I had to visit the dentist. Man, oh man, do I hate doing that, but I have gotten much better. JUST DO IT and then it is done, instead of all the anticipation and dread by putting it off. We are getting some rain today. It’s just a drizzle really, cloudy and dark, but we so desperately needed it. I can’t even remember the last time it rained. Still warm and enjoying the outdoors. What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Football Pitfalls – Til the End by Joseph Patrick & Dennis Lowery @DennisLowery

Til The End by Joseph Patrick and Dennis Lowery is one of those books that I read in 2016, but never got around to reviewing. It’s not because the book was lacking anything.I think it has a powerful message to send to teens and young adults…maybe all of us.

Check it out for yourself and I would love to know what you think.

'Til The End

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

If you are a football fan, like I am, Til The End by Joseph Patrick & Dennis Lowery is one of those stories of privilege, coverups, drugs…all the negatives you hear about. One fatal mistake, doesn’t matter why, and the actions they take will come back to haunt them.

The repercussions are like the butterfly affect…a stone in the water and the ripples spread.

I started reading this and thought, this is a story for teens, it’s not doing it for me, BUT by the time I was done, I felt so sad for the young men. The story brought tears to my eyes as….well, I started to share waaaaaay too much.

I think all young sports players should take a look at Til The End. Maybe it should be required reading for school. Maybe we could all learn a lesson.

GOODREADS BLURB

Ryan, Tyler, Avery and Jacob are high school football stars. Everyone looks up to them. They’re living the life that young boys and men dream of and are right at the point of having it all: a state championship, college paid for, a chance for big money and even more glory in the NFL.

Animal Attraction
Kate Willoughby
(San Francisco Dragons #2)
Publication date: April 27th 2019
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Sports

What do you do when an NHL player steals your dog and won’t give it back?

Maggie Hudson made a heartbreaking decision nine years ago that has haunted her ever since. To fill the hole in her life, she showers her rescue dog with love and affection. But one day, Kirby goes missing.

Six months later, NHL player Spencer Corbett is astonished when Maggie shows up on his doorstep demanding her dog back. He’d found the pug on the side of the road, collarless and in bad shape. But even when confronted with hard evidence she’s the dog’s owner, he begs her to reconsider. His own elderly dog is on her last legs and Kirby has given her a new lease on life.

After Maggie relents, Spencer can’t help but fall for her. Not only is she the most compassionate and selfless person he’s ever met, she’s witty, intelligent and sexier than sin and doesn’t even realize. What starts out as a friendship quickly turns into more, but when a woman from Spencer’s past throws everything into chaos, their fragile relationship is put to the ultimate test.

Animal Attraction may be read and enjoyed as a standalone sports romance!

EXCERPT:

What kind of jerk didn’t give back a person’s dog?

The PR man said he had personally given Corbett the message only a couple of hours after she’d called. As the days continued to pass with no word, Maggie grew increasingly frustrated and even angry.

Finally, she decided to take matters into her own hands. Kirby belonged with her and damned if she was going to let some immoral, spoiled, self-centered jerk who only pretended to be a nice guy for the public, get away with keeping her dog, even if he was an NHL player.

After making the decision to hunt down the dog-napper herself, she had watched the video segment again, this time watching for clues as to where he lived. They mentioned Hillsborough. Of course. Very high-class neighborhood. That narrowed it down quite a bit. He dropped the name of an Italian restaurant he frequented that was “within easy walking distance” of his house. That narrowed it even further. She printed a map of the area and marked a three-block radius out from that restaurant. They showed a few seconds of him walking away from his house with the dogs on a leash and she froze the video and took a picture of the view.

Then because he mentioned a team party he was hosting to watch the All-Star game, she decided to go to his house and accuse him of dog-napping in front of all his friends. With any luck, peer pressure would make him give up Kirby. Was it going to be horrid, shaming a Dragons player when for more than ten years she’d rooted for the team with all her heart as a hockey fan? Yes. Could she have gone to the media and exposed him the way Jade had suggested? Yes.

But what it all came down to was she thought he was morally despicable and she wanted to tell him so to his face. She wanted the satisfaction of taking her dog away from him personally.

It took her about fifteen minutes of search-cruising before she found his place. Looking toward downtown San Francisco, the view matched the photo.

As she parked her car, the realization hit her that she was about to barge in on what might be the entire Dragons hockey team. Before she’d arrived, all she’d focused on was getting Kirby back. She’d imagined herself going in and righteously claiming her dog. Her main emotion had been indignation. Now, a case of the jitters undermined her determination.

Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea after all.

She looked up at the spectacular two-story house. The sprawling property looked as if Arts and Crafts architecture and Japanese landscaping had a baby. Lush mature trees cast shade over mossy rocks and boulders. The wooden bridge leading to the front door crossed an actual pond, complete with brightly colored koi fish. As she looked around and the luxuriousness of the neighborhood sunk in, the jitters progressed into near-panic. She’d passed the Sierra Point friggin’ Yacht Club on her way, for Pete’s sake.

No. She would do this. Kirby was hers. Even if she couldn’t offer him posh digs like these, they belonged together. She’d had him since puppyhood. They had a bond that couldn’t and wouldn’t ever be broken. Even now, he was probably wishing he were home with her, cuddling on her old sofa watching reruns of Friends and eating microwave popcorn. She told herself the players were only people, like her. People with unusual, high-profile jobs and bodies like gods.

She went up to the front door where a sign said, “Come on in. Hope you brought beer.”

Gathering her courage, she knocked anyway.

No one answered. And it was kind of quiet. Maybe the party hadn’t started yet.

She tried the door and found it unlocked. Before entering, she took a picture of the sign, because if this devolved and the police were called, she wanted evidence that, technically, she was invited in.

“Hello?” she called hesitantly, crossing the threshold into the foyer.

The house was just as gorgeous on the inside as it was on the outside. She’d seen it on the video, but in person, it felt richer and more personal. A San Francisco Dragons player actually lived here. Spencer Corbett occasionally sat on that couch. He walked on this plush rug.

He—gulp—was standing right there, staring at her.

Game Changer by Charissa Stastny

Meridee Mansford wants nothing to do with the popular crowd. She’s comfortable being invisible. But that doesn’t stop her from dreaming about the hunky football player who visits the campus ice cream shop where she works. Still, she’s smart enough to know he’d never notice a girl like her, and she’d never want him even if he did. Too much unwelcome attention.

Parker Harrington basks in the glory that’s been his since the game-changing passes he caught that pushed his team into the national spotlight. Sticky Fingers is his media moniker now, and the cheerleaders who used to ignore him when he sat the bench have become his most devoted fans. But when he accidentally crashes into a quiet coed and covers her in orange chicken, it throws off his offensive game.

As fate, ice cream, and orange chicken throw the opposites together, will Parker continue keeping company with women he knows are only using him for his fame, or will he change up the game and risk his heart on a genuine girl who despises the attention he craves?

Praise for the Book

“A fun and flirty new adult romance. It’s a sweet indulgence that keeps you turning pages. The start to what is sure to be a great new series. – Jennifer Peel, author of Pianos and Promises series

“Opposites attract when the overlooked sweet girl lands herself the popular football star in this quasi-Cinderella story. It’s the perfect read to keep you up way past your bedtime…”Taylor Dean, author of Chasing Fireflies

EXCERPTS

Twiddling my fingers, I waited for Ken to make up his mind. I hoped he’d order without looking up so he didn’t recognize me. Not that he would. But just in case, I kept my chin tucked as I stared at the counter.

“Um, let’s see.” His head stayed bowed. “I’ll have a triple waffle cone with a scoop of caramel cashew and…” He paused and scratched his head as though solving a physics problem. “…a scoop of huckleberry ripple, and, umm…I guess I’ll try a scoop of that…”

When he paused, I peeked up to see if he pointed at a flavor. Instead, I found him staring at me.

“Y-you,” he sputtered.

I cringed and wished a hole could open up in the floor and swallow me.

“You’re the girl I crashed into in the CUB yesterday, aren’t you?”

My cheeks burned and my throat felt like sandpaper. “W-what was the last flavor you wanted?” He hadn’t finished ordering.

“Oh, uh, yeah. Um…” His gaze dropped, but shot right back up to stare at me again.

“What’s your last flavor?” I determined to keep him on task.

His brows furrowed. “I guess I’ll have the licorice since it’s new.”

I shuddered, and attempted to ignore the infuriatingly sexy man gaping at me as though I had horns sprouting from my head. The tightening in my chest and labored breathing proved I tried in vain.

Sherry’s Shelves #121 – The Masters Week

Sherry’s Shelves #113 is my weekly update from April 2 – April 8, 2017.

Sunday Post #201 Countdown to Spring..

Stacking The Shelves {200}

~~~
Hello fellow bloggers.
I don’t know about you, but my week has been about The Masters Golf Tournament and working outside in this gorgeous weather we are now having.
Mr Wonderful and I play golf whenever we get the chance and we always play The Masters lottery. We were fortunate to win tickets to the 2006 Masters for Sunday, but we sold them for tickets to the Par 3 contest and the balance payed for our trip from Rochester, New York to Augusta, Georgia. Ya can’t beat that.
I want to start off with my favorite player…Freddie Couples. He is making an appearance and in the running at 57 years old…and he still looks fabulous to me.
I am sad to say one of the players I followed for years made an appearance, but did not play. I believe Tiger Woods could have been the best player of all time, but golf takes its toll on the human body and the players can play a heavy price.
After The Master’s Tournament, there will be a three part series about one of the most famous players in the game of golf, Jack Nicklaus. It was great to see him and Gary Player tee up to open the tournament this year and Arnold Palmer will be sadly missed.
There is one hole…I can’t remember what number it is, where the players line up and try to skim their balls across the pond.
I love the Par 3 Tournament, because the players are relaxed and happy to play to the crowd.
Unfortunately, the weather did not help the azaleas this year, but in 2006  they were out in all their glory.
Hope you have a wonderful week!
