Sherry’s Shelves #194 – Vacation Or Stacation?

Sherry’s Shelves #193 is my weekly update from 7.21.19 – 7.27.19.

LATEST HAPPENINGS

Hello fellow bloggers. I hope you have all had a great week, filled with family, fun and a lot of great books. I’ve been busy doing the usual, piddling around the house and the yard, doing some reading and blogging, and more reading and blogging.

As the summer winds down…OMG, July is almost over, I know a lot of you are doing school shopping and planning. I don’t have any of that to think of any more, but I do think of vacation. We tend to stacation for the summer, but as the fall approaches and the vacation season is winding down, we have begun planning. I’m not going to say where we are going, or when, but you will probably be able to tell. I will still be blogging, but it will be at a minimum and I will be posting a lot of pics after I get back.

Do you have a vacation planned? If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

  1. Now that my daughter is grown, I relish the fact that I don’t have to vacation during the vacation season. For the second year, we will be taking our vacation in October. I love it! I hope wherever you are going is wonderful and that you have a fantastic and restful time.

    • gives you a lot of freedom. i love going to places off season. not so crowded and i see it in a different light.

  2. I’m so happy I don’t have to take vacations when the kids are off anymore! I don’t do much when they’re off and I have nice vacations in May or October. The weather is even better, IMO, those times too. I am going to Park City UT for a vacation in a couple of weeks, but I didn’t plan that one. My daughter and her husband did so we’re coming along.

Hope you have fun and enjoy your vacation and vacation planning! 🙂

  3. Ooh hope you guys have a great trip, wherever you go!

Let’s see- where would I go? Probably somewhere in Europe, since I haven’t been there yet.

    • i’ve never been to europe either. i have thought about a Mediterranean vacation. so much great architecture.

  4. My sister and I are hoping to go to France next February. That’s a trip I could never take when I was working. It’s quite exciting to think about.

I love the idea of One Sentence Reviews. If only I could be that terse!

I hope you have a lovely week!

    • sounds like a wonderful time. i have wanted to go to france since i was a young girl and my aunt used to pronounce by name sherry as cherie. lol i love the challenge of summing up a book with one sentence. sometimes i do better than others, but it’s always fun. have a great week deb.

  5. My kids are out of high school but have started college. They go local so they all still live with us. lol When we can, we like going to the beach. It’s only about 3.5 hrs away. We haven’t had the money to go in the last few years though. It makes me sad. As far as traveling anywhere in the world…I’d like to go anywhere it’s safe.

    • that’s quite a household. lol safety is a definite issue and that is why some places are off limits to us, by our choice. the beach, thank goodness our beach is fiften minutes away, but we spend more time at our pool as we have gotten older. i hope you enjoy yourselves no matter where you are at

  6. I’ll be looking for your vacation photos. I won’t be going on a vacation until the end of November for my birthday. My daughter, youngest grandson and I are going on a cruise.

    • a cruise. i have been on several cruises and enjoyed them very much. it’s a great way to see more than i could by flying to a specific place. it sounds like a great adventure and i hope you have a fantastic time!

  7. We’re hoping to return to Florida (Orlando & the theme parks) before long so because of this and how much we need to save to travel from the UK, we’ll be having a lot of staycations over the next couple of years! lol

I hope whatever you decide for your vacation you enjoy.

    • that’s great though, saving for something you really want. will be so cool when it happens. enjoy your stacations in the meantime.

  8. I love planning vacations. I’m looking forward to hearing about yours. We just got back from Florida and had a great time. Hope you have a great week!

    • i love taking vacations off season and we are old enough that we are able to go, pretty much, whenever we want. have a super week and happy reading.

  9. I have done vacations for the past 3 summers, so this year was a staycation and surgery. I would LOVE to go back to St. Malo, France. I would also love to see Ireland one day.

    • japan…i used to read a lot of books about japan. i was really curious about it

  10. Sadly vacations aren’t really within our budget these days, we used to go camping once or twice a year when the kids were younger though. My dream destination has always been Canada 🙂

Wishing you a great reading week

    • i went camping as a kid, but now it seems like a lot of work. my camping is a hotel with room service and a hot shower. lol i lived in michigan and new york, so have traveled to canada a lot. i didn’t go deep into it.

  11. WE had our week away in June, which was great but I could really do with another one! We still seem to have so much to do around the house and garden and we’re both getting a bit depressed about it all!

    • yeah, i have been way behind on yard work. i hired someone to come in and do a clearing out around our fences and i have been trying to tidy up. it’s driving me crazy. i have had a couple of health issues the past two years and couldn’t take care of it.

  12. I tend to split my work time off in the summer so we do one week vacation and one week staycation which is nice. I like being home resting but I tend to do day trips as well on staycation. And as for vacation, a cabin in the woods near the lake is my favorite kind but one day I would love to travel to Ireland for my dream trip.
Enjoy your week and happy reading!

    • i have become more of a homebody and love hanging around the pool. we do some quickie road trips that i enjoy. if you are looking for some novels that take place in ireland, try p m terrell. i am reading her newest one right now

  13. I’m always relieved that we’re not forced to vacation in the midst of summer due to school breaks. When the heat is at its worst I tend to hibernate indoors. 🙂 We usually vacation in April/May in conjunction with our anniversary. And if we stay in Florida, it’s still plenty warm already! Hope you’re enjoying the vacation planning… to me that’s always half the fun! 🙂

  14. We don’t usually vacation in the summer time either. I prefer to go in the fall and winter months. We are planning to head to Disney World at the end of the year so that will be this year’s big trip. I hope you have an amazing time wherever you end up traveling!

  15. I WISH I had a vacation planned. I’ve been looking on Groupons for some of their deals and crossing my fingers and hoping and wishing that one day I’ll be able to choose one and go somewhere I’ve always wanted to go.

  16. I long for the day where I don’t have to think of school anymore though I admit that I also do like being there because I love spending time with my friends.

I’m excited for you! Enjoy your vacation and enjoy taking pictures (and food, DEFINITELY FOOD. One of the best things when you’re exploring places). I’m also excited to see those pics haha. Have fun!

  17. I can’t believe July is almost over! My daughter starts school next week, and I need to get school shopping done. Congrats on your upcoming vacation/staycation Sherry! Whatever you decide to do, I have no doubts it will be a wonderful time. Happy Reading!

  18. I don’t have holidays during the summer now but we’ll go to Malta in September.

Staycation is good too, but sometimes I find myself wishing I could just sit on a plane and discover new places.

I hope wherever you’re going you’ll enjoy it!!

  19. I hope you enjoy your vacation! If I could go anywhere in the world for Vacation it would be a toss up between the U.K. and Japan, I’d probably pick the U.K. though since I really want to go to Scotland and the Inverness area.

    • they all sound fantastic and a few places i have thought of visiting myself. my favorite is the Caribbean.

  20. Here’s to hoping you enjoy your vacation when you do go! I wish I was able to go on vacation. I’d probably more or less choose NYC again. The only issue is anytime I travel there, I’m like four seconds away from ditching Chicago and moving to NYC full time. Sigh, if only!

    • i have been to nyc numerous times and loved each visit. hope you get to go soon.

  21. I hope you have an awesome vacation. We usually stay at home nowadays as we have insufficient funds for a vacation, so we often just take some day trips.

I love visiting Germany or the UK, but also would love to see Canada and Japan one day.
