The three of them sat at the freshly cleared table while Talia’s dad set up the game. Cruz sat back in the spot where he’d had dinner and pulled his sleeves up above his elbows, almost to his shoulders.
He had one tattoo near where his sleeve rested that was a heart and a flower with the word Mom. A black and white dragon wrapped around the lower part of that same arm, and its tail looped around the neck.
Cruz glanced Talia’s way, and caught her staring.
“Interesting tattoos,” she said.
He gave her a funny look. “You like them?”
Talia shrugged. “How does your mom like that one?” She gestured to the heart.
Cruz flexed as he peered down at it.
Her own heart nearly jumped into her throat.
“It’s growing on her,” he said. “Her tears are down to a minimum now.”
The corners of Talia’s mouth twitched. “That’s a good thing?”
He crossed his arms over his chest, flexing them—on purpose or was that just natural? He nodded and smiled.
“So, she likes them?” asked Talia.
“Yeah. She likes my dragon—she says he’s cute. Not quite what I was going for, but whatever.” He rubbed the top of the dragon’s head almost like it was a pet.
Talia had never been one for tattoos, but she kind of liked his. The artwork was really impressive.
Her dad cleared his throat. “You two ready to start this game?”
“Yes,” Talia exclaimed, embarrassed by her staring.
“Let’s get this party started.” Cruz leaned forward.

This is the last series of books on the first shelf of my first bookcase.
I have been a fan of Tom Clancy’s for many years. His novels have kept me enthralled through many adventures and many countries. I have read them once, twice, three times. His movies are amazing and I have watched them over and over again.
Tom Clancy was, not only, a prolific writer, but he co-founded Red Storm Entertainment, a video game developer that created games mostly based on the plots of his books, such as “Rainbow Six.”
I began my reading affair with Tom Clancy in The Hunt For Red October. It is still my favorite novel. I either borrowed the book or checked it out from the library, so it is not in my collection.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Paul has lived a varied life full of excitement and adventure. Not really, but it sounds good as an opening line.
Paul’s multiple careers have included: rock and roll roadie, children’s theater stage manager, television camera operator, mortgage banker, and support specialist for Microsoft Excel.
This eclectic mix prepared him to go into his true love: motion picture production. He has produced two motion pictures and two documentaries: His film Night Feeders released on DVD in 2007, and Cold Storage was released by Lionsgate in 2010.
Amidst all this, Paul has worked on his writing, starting with his first short story, about Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, at age 8. Paul has written and produced numerous commercial and industrial video scripts in his tenure with his forcreative agency, Indievision. He has two published short stories (As You Sow and Double Cross) and one self-published novel (Godchild). He lives with his filmmaker/graphic artist partner and their three cats.

The titles of duke and marquess are usually territorial, meaning they are associated with a specific area of land, such as Duke of York, Marquess of Salisbury, etc. Though the titles of earl, viscount, and baron are most often associated with a territory, they can also be based on a family name, eg Earl of Tarrington. Some titles were bestowed without land so the title is attached to the family rather than to the land that family governs, so to speak.

A reader may come across a number of different names for carriages, and unless one is willing to do some research, these names may mean nothing.

The early 1800’s in England was a time of social and economic upheaval. Upon the ending of the long-term Napoleonic wars, unemployed career soldiers and sailors flooded the workforce. Industrial change was taking England from a largely agricultural country to one of large industry. Many of the working class were hungry and feeling oppressed.
