Special Forces – Saving Eric by Jane Blythe @jblytheauthor

.

Jane Blythe is a must read author and loved the first book, Saving Ryder in the Saving Seals Series, so I was eager to begin another adventure.

Saving Eric (Saving SEALS, #2)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I want to start about by saying, I have never rated a Jane Blythe novel below a four. She is one of my favorite authors, but…

Saving Eric had irritating issues for me. I loved their nicknames, but bouncing back and forth between their given name and the nicknames were, at times, confusing to me.

Saving Eric started out great, a lot of action and it felt real. After all, Seal Teams sneak in, accomplish their mission and get out of dodge as quietly as possible. I watch Seal Team on TV religiously and love it, so to see Jane Blythe start a Seal Team series left me eager to read on. I loved the first book, Saving Ryder, so I had high hopes for Saving Eric.

Lavendar is a runner and she runs from him…to her sister. I get that, but I got bored with the push/pull of the romance. I thought she was a strong character, traveling the world on her own…my kind of woman. Showing no fear, but she ended up doubting everything, being a bit wishy washy.

Saving Eric felt as if someone other the Jane Blythe wrote it. The ending was very abrupt. What saved the book was the beginning chapters. It felt real, like reading about current events. The characters were familiar and I love that about Jane Blythe’s series. Even though the books can stand alone, she brings me up to date on what characters from previous books are up to now. All that being said, I am eager for more of her work and just because one book didn’t work for me doesn’t mean the next one won’t. Write on Jane!

Review – Guardians of Earth by P R Garcia #PRGarcia

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I love when a character is also an author…and writing the same genre I will be reading is even better. Then, we find everything she was writing about was true…aliens, conspiracy and danger.

WOW…I was quickly grabbed by the fabulous writing and P R Garcia never let me go.

As far as the government and how they handle aliens, there are no surprises.

Due to technology, the world is getting smaller and smaller and the borders are becoming blurred. The world in Guardians of Extinction, like in reality, needs to overcome their differences and mistrust and work together.

The Major General…so adversarial and narrow minded. Ignorant, greedy men who will put the world on the edge of extinction, caring only for themselves, letting their egos and desire to control everything lead the way. Does it sound familiar to you? It does to me. Shows how the actions of a few can have devastating consequences…but there are those who sill try to do the right thing. Will it be enough?

P R Garcia’s creative and highly imaginative writing fits me so well.

This review is kind of hard to write. Like her blurb, I do not want to give anything away, though I do hope to tease you enough to want to find out for yourself.

Exciting, riveting, science fiction, alien adventure, with hints of ecology and global warming. I like some reality in my fiction and if you read P R Garcia’s biography, you will know why she adds these realistic elements to her stories.

She was hooked the moment she heard Patricia Neal tell the robot Gort in The Day the Earth Stood Still “Klaatu barada nikto”. Inspired by what was possible, she and her dog spent many days in the fields behind her home fighting aliens and investigating unexplored planets. Her love continued to grow, and while in high school, the series Star Trek hit television, boosting her fascination with what might be out there. The Everyday Heroes World – Protect by Jane Blythe @jblytheauthor

.

I have read a lot of Jane Blythe’s work, but Protect is my first foray into The Everyday Heroes World. I hope for an intriguing adventure.

Protect (The Everyday Heroes World)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Protect by Jane Blythe seemed different to me than the novels she usually writes. It took me a while to figure out why. I think it’s because it wasn’t as dark and disturbing as most of her work I have read. The darker, the better for me. This seemed a cross between a cozy mystery and romantic suspense, more on the lighter side.

Poppy is the receptionist and office manager for the police department. She is a fabulous character and carries the novel, keeping me hoping for a happy ever after for her.

Detective Beau Caldwell was driving home when he saw a car on the side of the road. Something seemed very wrong.

Poppy had been coming home from her parents funeral and stopped when she saw a wrecked car. She quickly becomes a suspect in the death of the serial killer when she is found bending over his dead body by Beau. I didn’t see that coming, but Jane Blythe is good at throwing book surprises at me.

Do you believe in Fate? Events make Poppy consider it.

Have you ever played Strip Beetle? Why not let Poppy teach you the rules?

Beau is a detail man, while Poppy lets her heart lead the way. I do love that there was not a lot of push/pull in their ‘relationship’ and Poppy is not the type to get all angsty. about things. She is sensible and understanding.

I figured out the culprit pretty quick, but the route we took to the end was frightening and suspenseful, with some twists and turns and bullets flying, keeping me on my toes.

There were a couple of bumps and moments when I had to stop and think, feeling like I was filling in the blanks. That is unusual for a Jane Blythe novel, but I loved Poppy and the last of the book saved it.

“They did so much for me it seems disrespectful to not honor their memory by trying to live my best life.” That sums up Poppy.

Who killed the serial killer?

All Poppy Deveraux wants to do is bury her parents and get out of the town where she suffered through a horrendous ordeal. Unfortunately that plan is derailed when she finds herself at the centre of a police investigation. The sexy cop working the case makes her want to break her own rule and let things get serious, but as soon as she is allowed she’s leaving town with no plans to return, so what’s the point in falling in love?

Detective Beau Caldwell is attracted to Poppy from the second he lays eyes on her, but she’s involved in his case and it isn’t wise to mix business with pleasure. Doesn’t stop him falling for the beautiful woman he’d like to have a future with, but as soon as she can Poppy is leaving and she’s never coming back. Is it worth risking his heart on the off chance things might work out the way he wants or can he learn to live in the moment and let what happens happen?

Jane Blythe’s Protect is an emotional, action-packed romantic suspense written in K. Bromberg’s Everyday Heroes Worlds project.

Some Questions Have No Answer by Jane Blythe @jblytheauthor

Woo Hoo. I am heading back to River’s End and I can hardly wait to see what some familiar characters are up to, what new characters I will meet and the danger they will face.

Some Questions Have No Answers (River's End Rescues, #3)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I am so happy that I could jump from Maggie and Theo’s story, straight into Sydney and Levi’s. I have spent some time in River’s End am loving every every minute of it. Hot guys and the women they love, danger and serial killers. Her books are filled with tense, unexpected moments, keeping the suspense at a high level. I don’t know what more I can want. 🙂

Sydney came to River’s End for a fresh start. The police had been there when she needed them, and she wanted to do the same for others. She is a deputy and the only woman amongst a crew of ex military men. Sounds like it could be verrrrrry interesting to me…and her first case is a murder. Who would have thunk it in such a small town, where everyone knows your name.

Levi, literally, bumped into newbie. He had grown up in River’s End and was curious about the newcomer. Is she a tourist or a resident? He is a doctor at Sacred Heart Hospital…funny, because we have a Sacred Heart Hospital here.

Levi’s brother, Abe is the serious one, Theo is the fun loving one, and Levi is the one that follows his heart…and it is falling for Sydney from the first moment they met.

Jane Blythe’s heroes are very patient men and they take a lot of cold showers. LOL Levi is not exception. I love that I can laugh even when I know danger is right around the corner, lurking in the shadows, just waiting for the moment someone lets their guard down to make their move.

There was a moment or two about 50% in that I didn’t like, but it all came together in a good way. I guess I was too quick to judge, but isn’t that what makes a story seem real? After all, we humans do have our faults and do stupid things at times.

WOW..that was a wild ride filled with ups and downs, danger and murder, life and death…and love. Even the serial killer got some empathy from me. I do love a great villain. Jane can create some tense, nail biting scenarios that are not trite and overused. She has her moments when she amazes me with her creative writing and characters that seem so real that once you know them, you don’t forget them. That’s what makes return trips to town such a reading pleasure.

How do you give an answer when you don’t understand the question?

Sydney Clark moved to River’s End for a fresh start, desperately wanting to put the past behind her. What she didn’t expect on her first day as a deputy in the Sheriff’s department was to be working a serial killer case, and a disturbing one at that. What she expected even less was to meet a man who will challenge everything her childhood taught her about men.

Levi Black knows what it’s like to watch the woman you love die, he’s been there twice before and it sucks, which is why he took himself out of circulation, flirting is fine—fun even—but anything deeper risks your heart. Then he meets Sydney. He can see in her eyes that she’s battling some pretty rough demons, and getting involved with a cop might be more than he’s prepared to risk, especially with an unpredictable serial killer stalking the town.

Gaslamp Faeries Series by Ren Ryder

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

The father had taken Kal in. He had ‘the sight’. But, when he saw monsters from the other side, they saw him.

Kal made contact with a fairy and knew he would need to battle the Ourboros into submission to save his sister, Sammie. Her life weighs on his shoulders and he must save her.

There’s No Such Thing As Monsters by Ren Ryder was not what I expected, but isn’t there always a battle between good and evil when monsters are involved?

It was hard for me to connect to the characters, but I could seen some of the scenes playing out inn a Harry Potter, Supernatural sort of way. Some scenes seemed familiar, but isn’t that usually the case. I have read so many books, it’s hard to come up with a new approach to evil in a monster’s world.

I don’t have Book II, but I do have Book III, The Monster At The End of Its Road. We have a lot of magical monsters in this book, and I’m counting on there being a lot more in the next.

I enjoyed my time in New London and am looking forward to another visit.

GOODREADS BLURB

Monsters come in all shapes and sizes, and not all of them have sharp teeth and beady red eyes.
New London. A thriving metropolis at the forefront of technological advancement and a shining gem of civilization.
Faeries. Whether they come off cute and cuddly or downright predatory, they all bring misfortune or are heralds of it.

Experience is a harsh taskmistress, but her lessons sink the deepest. Having been taught the lesson at great cost, Kal’s rules for dealing with faeries are simple: don’t talk to them, don’t look at them, don’t give them the time of day.

So when the Other Side comes knocking one fateful, stormy day, Kal, at first, pretends not to notice. Was forgetting this rule his folly?

His way of life is in great danger. His little sister, Sammie, a natural mage, is taken by Ouroboros, a criminal organization made up of raving lunatics that profit off the misery and suffering of others, and have everything to do with all the crimes of magic in New London.

Kal will go to any lengths to save his sister, even to his death. Accompanied by his sylph companion, a mischievous pest, Kal dives deep into the dark underbelly of the city, but are his hands enough to dig his sister out from the muck?

The Monster at the End of its Road (Gaslamp Faeries Series, Book 3)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Well, I missed Book II, but I am happy to say, it didn’t affect my enjoyment of The Monster at the End of Its Road by Ren Ryder. We have magical action from the opening pages, Kal and Bell fighting for their lives against vampires and other magical creatures.

When he came face to face with his sister…well…I wasn’t expecting that and I loved it. He is determined to save her…no matter what.

Some things smack of the real world, like the division between the rich and everyone else. Kal can’t walk away from setting New London free from the Ouroboros, picking up unusual magical creatures along the way. He won’t have to do it alone.

GOODREADS BLURB

Kal may be on his way to becoming a monster, but with Bell at his side, at least he’s in good company.

New London circa 1912. A few short months have passed since they stabbed Kal in the back and cast him into the abyss.

Ouroboros. A criminal organization with deep pockets and deeper connections that infest the highest ranks of the nobility. Ouroboros specializes in trafficking, crimes of magic, and deals in all that is immoral or illegal. Dark forces are brewing, and Ouroboros stands in the eye of the storm.

New London is a city that never sleeps… until now. Storefronts are closed, windows are shuttered, and doors are barred while dark entities terrorizing the streets at night bring indiscriminate death to all. And in broad daylight, a serial killer continues to wreak havoc on the magical community.

Kal will take Ouroboros apart brick-by-brick if he has to, while Sammie has so deeply entrenched herself with the enemy that there’s little hope of their relationship returning to its roots.

In a cruel twist of fate, Fin Macool gets his dearest wish granted, and he leaves Kal’s side. Alone, will Kal & Bell be able to defeat the sea of enemies arrayed against them?

ABOUT REN RYDER

Ren Ryder

My name is Ren Ryder. I’m twenty-six years old, sober, a neurodivergent Aquarius-introvert with a ton of anxiety, and my truest passion in life is writing. Since I wrote There’s No Such Thing As Monsters, I rescued six cats, got my first tattoos, and dyed my hair crazy colors. When I was younger, Fantasy gave me as many worlds as I needed to escape to until I could come back to face the world again. Now I hope my own writing shines a light for others, a light carried by my characters and the worlds they live in.

Carter Island Review – No More Secrets by Cate Beauman @CateBeauman

I have read the ten books in Cate Beauman”s LA Bodyguard series and loved them, and I am happy to be back on Carter Island.

No More Secrets (Carter Island, #3)

Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I have been lovin’ spending time on Carter Island with some of Cate Beauman’s characters, so having a chance to come back in No More Secrets, I had to dive in.

Hit my sad button in the first chapter, but knowing Cate Beauman, I feel better things are coming and smiles will be in our future.

Cade Paxton and Gwenyth Carter are both on Carter Island for a fresh start. Neither expected or were looking for romance. That doesn’t mean there wasn’t an immediate attraction. They both have open wounds, but as their feelings deepen their attraction and slow burning romance turns to FIRE.

I enjoyed my time on Carter Island with Cade and Gwenyth. The story was predictable and there were no book surprises for me, but this is a great pool/beach romance.

Review – Extinction 2038 by P R Garcia #PRGarcia

Extinction 2038

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

P R Garcia writes some fabulous tales, so I am always eager to get my hands on another one of her books. Extinction 2038 was exactly what I expected and I enjoyed every minute of it.

A find that would change paleontology forever…and also…the world. I do wonder if something like this is possible, considering global warming is melting the glaciers and who knows what is hidden under all that ice.

As I read of the characters who were putting their life on the line, it made me thing of the Covid essential workers. When you read it, I think you may feel the same way.

Twinkles…I love Twinkles. Just like a child, annoying yet so lovable. Even in bad times, a human needs a laugh.

P R Garcia’s books stick with me long after reading. She adds those moments of ecological enlightenment…if we weren’t so into ourselves, maybe we would think of the world we live in and remember Mother Nature has her limits.

As the Antarctic ice thaws, what secrets hidden in its frozen tundra will be exposed? Definitely something to think about. Most of P R Garcia’s work that I have read, like Extinction 2038, hints at the destruction of climate change and I like that. Adds a realistic element.

Extinction 2038 is 242 pages of action and adventure. There were some surprises that I loved and I enjoyed my time spent reading Extinction 2038. My only complaint, I didn’t get lost in it. I would have loved for it to be longer, more intense. I didn’t feel the sense of urgency I wanted.

Never fear, I know we have another book coming from P R Garcia and I will not hesitate to pick it up and read it. I highly recommend her work and, even though, Extinction 2038 is not one of my favorites, I enjoyed my time spent in the Antarctic.

Some Lies Will Haunt You by Jane Blythe @jblytheauthor

MY REVIEW

Maggie woke up early, and seeing she had a routine, she couldn’t figure out why…until, she smelled the smoke. Her hotel was on fire and she was trapped…no way out.

Theo, and the rest of the team get the call…Honeysuckle Hotel. They all know Maggie and her hotel, that it had been in her family for generations. After serving in the Marines, Theo had come home to be a firefighter. I wouldn’t mind a hunkalicious fireman throwing me over his shoulder and saving me from…anything. LOL He had been friends with Maggie, so he thought nothing of offering her a place to in his home while the hotel was being repaired.

Somniphobia: The fear of sleep. Nightmares have plagued Maggie her entire life, so I know there has to be a horrible story there. She sleeps with the light and TV on. I don”t sleep with the light on, but I do sleep with the TV on. I need the noise to cover up all those creaks and groans the house makes when things are too quiet.

River’s End is a small town, where everyone knows ones everyone’s business. People think Maggie is sweet, cool, calm and collected. But, they don’t know her secret.

I first me Theo in a Broken Gems novel. He has a broken heart and felt he did Maggie wrong when she reached out to him because of it. She felt she deserved to be punished, alone with her nightmares.

I love books with secrets and I am curious what Maggie’s will be. The villain has a plan and the fire is only the first step. He doesn’t care about anything or anyone. It’s all about what he wants, how he feels…and he feels monstrous, wants revenge. For what

Have you ever looked at someone, and all of a sudden you see them in a different light? As if they are a different person altogether? And, sometimes a character…or two…need to be slapped upside the head.

I love that no two of her romantic suspense scenarios are the same. She always manages to tweak them in an engrossing way.

GOODREADS BLURB

Everyone has told lies but hers might get her killed.

Maggie Wilson has spent her entire adult life pretending she’s self assured and confident, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. When her hotel catches fire she finds herself looking at a childhood friend through new eyes, but as she falls for him she realises that if she wants to have a future with him she’ll have to admit to the lies that have hung over her head for half a lifetime. If she does that she’ll lose him.

Firefighter Theo Black walks through the flames to rescue his friend Maggie without a second thought, that was easy but realizing things are changing between them isn’t. He’s already done the whole falling for a friend thing before and it didn’t work out, he has no intention of going through that again. However when it becomes clear someone keeps setting fires when Maggie is around he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe, even if it means risking his heart.

Lucky Town Novel: Deadly Memories by Amanda Siegrist @amanda_siegrist #romance

.

NEW RELEASE

It is fun spending time in Lucky Town with all my book friends and the new novel, Deadly Memories by Amanda Siegrist. Though each can stand alone, I love keeping up with all the characters.

Deadly Memories (Lucky Town #4)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Woo Hoo. I am heading back to Lucky Town in Deadly Memories by Amanda Siegrist. I have been loving this series and am eager to get the latest news on some fabulous characters and share the romance of Deke and Charlotte.

Deke had slinked out of her house in the early morning hours after a night of lovemaking and there is no forgiveness in her heart. Will he get a second chance? Does he deserve one? Charlotte is stubborn, with a capital S, so good luck to him breaking through her silent treatment.

Because of her work for the sheriff, they are frequently thrown together and consider them all friends…but Special Agent Deke Sumnter of the FBI…Nope. Never gonna happen. The saying, if looks could kill, applies, but it makes me smile and I am only at 7%.

Sherry runs the flower shop in the small town of Lucky. Gotta mention her, because it is always fun to see my name in a book.

Since the Cheetah gang had come to town, the quiet and security of living in a small town had vanished. This time, Charlotte is in danger, and Deke, along with the rest of law enforcement are on high alert.

Charlotte keeps the police department running like a well oiled machine by handling all the office duties and the gossip mongers. Need a secret kept, she’s your woman.

Deke is known as a happy go lucky guy, but it is a cover to hid his inner most feelings. His childhood kept him from committing to a relationship, allowing himself to have a full and happy life. I am looking forward to learning how he pulls himself together and letting Charlotte into his life.

The romance fits all the criteria for a romantic suspense novel. No surprise there, but this is not the first time I’ve met these characters, so we have a history and I love catching up with them. AND danger seems to go hand in hand with the romance. I love that Amanda Siegrist creates new dangers and smiles for each set of characters and keeps me flying through the pages.

GOODREADS BLURB

From USA Today bestselling author Amanda Siegrist comes an intense romantic suspense that will make you swoon and hold you on the edge-of-your-seat until the very end.

Love is scary…death is terrifying.

Deke Sumnter only has casual sex. Anything beyond that, he’s not interested. Until Charlotte. She’s smart, sexy, and something he’s always craved. But one time was all he could give her. He should’ve known it wouldn’t be enough. Now, she won’t even talk to him. He’d take just being friends over the silent treatment.

When trouble starts brewing again in their small town, this time targeting the woman he swears he doesn’t love, he won’t let anything stop him from protecting her, even if everything inside of him says he needs to stay as far away from her as possible.

The entire Lucky Town Novel series: (Each book can be read as a standalone.)
Escaping Memories (Book 1): Logan & Aubrey
Dangerous Memories (Book 2): Danny & Kat
Stolen Memories (Book 3): Seth & Pepper
Deadly Memories (Book 4): Deke & Charlotte

Love! Gimme some love and heaps of romance. I have a sappy heart that just loves two people meeting, going through the cycles of a relationship, and ultimately, falling in love. Give me a good book like that and I’m a happy camper:)

I write contemporary and romantic suspense, but I am partial to suspense. I just love a good mystery.

Besides writing, I love baking, crafts, and baseball…oh, and meeting new people. *smiles*

MY REVIEW

OMG…Talk about a book surprise…BLEW…MY…MIND…and I love it!!!!!!

There are a lot of triggers, so read with care.

Alexandra…an amazing character. The writing is off the charts, pulling out all the feels and smacking me in the face. With the excellent writing and the surprisingly creative storyline and characters, I challenge you to tell me you didn’t shed a tear or two, I won’t believe you. This severely damaged child/woman, who, when faced with a situation she never could have ever imagined calls for her to face her fears and change her life…One minute I wanted to reach through my Kindle and slug someone, the next puke my guts out, the next wrap them in my arms. The ending…AMAZING and I NEED to know what happens next.

When I read the blurb, it made me think that The Savant of Chelsea by Suzanne Jenkins would stand alone and I could decide what I wanted the rest of her life to be…but I see there are two more books…AND I WANT THEM!
