Review – All In by Simona Ahrnstedt @simonaahrnstedt #allin

Amazon / Goodreads

OMG. What a wonderful surprise I found in All In by Simona Ahrnstedt. She is a Swedish author and Tara Chance is the translator. She did an amazing job. The words flowed smoothly across the pages and once I started reading, I couldn’t stop.

A life without risk is no life at all.

When life showers you with blessings, smile.

I am not big into the financial world, but Simona Ahmstedt made it easy to follow along with the financial elite of Sweden. The characters came alive on the pages. Of course, I loved the main characters, David Hammar and Natalia De la Grip. I love how Simona handled the man’s world of corporate takeovers and those in power with their prejudices and nepotism. One of my favorite characters was Asa. She has a BIG personality.

I went into All In by Simona Ahrnstedt with low expectations, and Simona far surpassed them. I thought, being it’s translated, that it would be stilted, that the flow would be halting, interrupting the pacing and tempo of the story. I was very pleasantly surprised. If I hadn’t known before hand that it was a translation, I never would have guessed. My biggest complaint is that All In was published in 2014 and it is part of the Only One Night series. Where s my Book II, because I really want it. I think I know who will be in the spotlight in Book II and I think he is as intriguing a character as David Hammar.

I can’t remember how I got the paperback copy, but I think it was at RomCon in Las Vegas. My thanks go out to Kensington and Simona Ahrnstedt for the opportunity to read and review All In.

Trust is the most precious commodity of all.

In the cutthroat world of Sweden’s financial elite, no one knows that better than corporate raider David Hammar. Ruthless. Notorious. Unstoppable. He’s out to hijack the ultimate prize, Investum. After years of planning, all the players are in place; he needs just one member of the aristocratic owning family on his side–Natalia De la Grip.

Elegant, brilliant, driven to succeed in a man’s world, Natalia is curious about David’s unexpected invitation to lunch. Everyone knows that he is rich, dangerous, unethical; she soon discovers he is also deeply scarred.

The attraction between these two is impossible, but the long Swedish nights unfold an affair that will bring to light shocking secrets, forever alter a family, and force both Natalia and David to confront their innermost fears and desires.

Second Chance Romance – Review – Ruthless Scars by Jane Blythe @jblytheauthor #ruthlessscars

Version 1.0.0

Amazon / KindleUnlimited / Goodreads

I am so happy to be back with another action packed Jane Blythe novel. She loves to share alpha heroes, feisty women, danger and happy ever afters. In Ruthless Scars, we get right to the good stuff. Sebastian “Rock” Rockman has lived his life trying to make himself worthy of Ariel Emerson. Just when he thinks he’ll have his second chance, she is kidnapped right under his nose and sold to a monster.

After she had been placed in a suitcase with a ball gag fitted and a chastity belt, all she could think was:

She was nothing. She was just a toy. No worth.

OMG! It amazes me that Jane can come up with so many ways to torture those that find themselves in the hands of monsters. The women that survive come out stronger, able to appreciate those who put their lives on the line to save them and help them find themselves again. They find that those around them are so much more than friends, they are family.

I do crave a happy ever after, seeing Jane puts her characters through all kinds of hell. I’m eager to see what she comes up with in the next book of the series, Brutal Scars.

His second chance disappears along with her.

Ariel Emerson knows what it’s like to lose everyone you love and she has no intention of going through that again. Ever. But then she’s snatched off the streets, sold to a monster, her only hope of being rescued is the man who very thoroughly destroyed her.

Not a day has passed for Sebastian “Rock” Rockman that he hasn’t regretted lashing out in grief and guilt and destroying the best thing to ever happen to him. He always knew one day he wanted a second chance but when Ariel is kidnapped right in front of him he’ll have to fight not just to win her heart and her trust, but to save her life.

Review – The Human Hybrid Odyssey: Origins Of The Hybrid by Kimathi Witt, Aaron McDonald & Kawsu Jatta #kimathiwitt #aaronmcdonald #kawsujatta

Amazon / Goodreads

I was wondering how the end of the world as we know it came about, and we find out in The Human Hybrid Odyssey: Origins Of The Hybrid by Kimathi Witt, Aaron McDonald and Illustrated by Kawsu Jatta. I do love the illustrations, and the cover sure has the creep factor working for it.

The ending of the trilogy is really the beginning, and the authors show no mercy. As the survivors awaken, after the storms annihilated their world, they discover just how much things, and themselves, have changed. You think their moment of peace and calm will last? Think again. We have plenty of brutality and savagery, and surprises and danger ,Some is good and some is bad.

I have been loving this series. My favorite character got killed off, ?$@!#&, but that happens. Keeps me on my toes, bracing for the next tragedy. The Human Hybrid Odyssey series is different from other creature, apocalyptic/dystopian, paranormal/supernatural, horror books I have read. I am always on the lookout for fresh and original twists to genres that I love to read. Well done, everyone.

The survivors open their eyes to a peaceful oasis, a stark contrast to the terrifying storms that had ravaged the world, but the quiet was deceptive. On either side lay the planet’s most treacherous landscapes, their ominous presence felt in the heavy stillness of the morning.
Feral roars erupted from the hybrids’ throats, their battle cries piercing the silence. They fought with a ferocity born from desperation with each swipe of their claws being a declaration of their unyielding will to survive. Blood spilled, staining the ground a deep crimson, mingling with the dirt and brush of the forest floor as they clashed with the creatures born of evil in the darkest throes of the night.

$25 GC & Review – On The Edge Of Trust by Patricia Bradley @partnersincr1me @PTBradley1 #ontheedgeoftrust

On the Edge of Trust by Patricia Bradley Banner

ON THE EDGE OF TRUST

by Patricia Bradley

November 3 – 28, 2025 Virtual Book Tour

Romantic suspense novels are a favorite of mine, so when I was given a chance to read On The Edge of Trust by Patricia Bradley, I didn’t hesitate. I have not read any of her work before, and The Edge Of Trust is the fifth book in the Logan Point series. I never felt lost, so the book can stand alone, but I loved it enough to search through my books and see if I have any of her work hanging around. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I have the first book in the series, Shadows Of The Past, so I will be moving that up on my reading list.

I have been reading ‘new’ types of books, like books about AI, podcasters, etc. I find they are hit and miss for me, but Patricia Bradley made me curious, kept the story flowing at a smooth and gripping pace, making me binge read the story.

The stars of the show are FBI undercover agent, Scott Sinclair. An injury has sidelined him from his FBI work, but he is determined to get back on the job. Until then, he is pulled into an investigation with Tori (Victoria) Mitchell, a crime reporter and podcaster, specializing in true crime.

Like I said earlier, I was so into On The Edge Of Trust by Patricia Bradley that I couldn’t stop reading. The suspense climbs, the deeper into the mystery we get. Sure, it is Christian fiction and I used to avoid them. Now, I screen them carefully, because many Christian fiction novels are on the light side of religion and, sometimes dropping little nuggets of goodness that hits close to home.

I want to thank Revel and Partners In Crime Virtual Book Tours for the opportunity to read On The Edge Of Trust.

Synopsis:

A LOGAN POINT NOVEL

Sometimes the closer you get to justice, the deadlier it becomes

When decorated FBI undercover agent Scott Sinclair suffers a gunshot wound in his right arm, the injury threatens his future career in the field. He is determined to regain his former job by training himself to use his left hand, and failure is not an option–especially when he’s unofficially pulled into an investigation.

Tori Mitchell is a passionate crime reporter and podcaster who has dedicated her life to seeking justice. Her relentless pursuit of the truth has freed a wrongfully convicted man from prison, making Tori an enemy of the true killer. When her nephew is accused of a different murder, nothing can stop her from getting involved and clearing his name.

Soon after Tori and Scott reconnect on the case, shots are fired, leaving them to wonder which of them has been targeted. As the investigation intensifies, so do the threats and the sparks between them, but Tori’s doubtful if she can extend grace and trust to Scott. They’ll have to combine their skills and rely on their growing relationship to outsmart the killer.

Perfect for fans of Lynette Eason, Lynn H. Blackburn, Elizabeth Goddard, and readers who love faith-based fiction and edge-of-your-seat thrillers, this riveting, clean romantic suspense delivers heart-pounding danger and forced-proximity romance.

Review – The Society Of Spirits by Marial Winters #marialwinters #thesocietyofspirits

Amazon / KindleUnlimited / Goodreads

I am not usually a big fan of the Victorian England times, but something about The Society Of Spirits by Marial Winters spoke to me. Emma Crowhurst is a ghost whisperer and I love women who step outside their comfort zone.

Emma Crowhurst’s father is looking for a husband for Emma. Her family knows she is different, but her controlling father makes sure she keeps her gift under wraps. She has learned to ignore her ability to speak to ghosts. All that changes when she meets a viscount, Lord Ashbourne, who changes her life. He also has a secret, and, together they create a world in which they can be true to themselves.

I was surprised at how much I loved The Society Of Spirits by Marial Winters. The characters quickly grew on me. They are all very different from each other, yet they form a strong bond. I love how Marial took a negative, a dangerous haunted house, and turned it into a positive. It changed the direction of the story and made it possible for more stories to follow, and I love it.

Everything changes when a charismatic viscount with a secret of his own crosses her path and takes an interest in her unique gifts. Under his guidance, a capable crew assembles and, acting covertly, they form the first ghost investigation team of the rational age. Their first to unravel the mysteries shrouding a troubled house whose former residents remain trapped in a cycle of endless suffering. Acting as the bridge between the living and the dead, Emma shatters societal norms and risks the ruin of her reputation in pursuit of the spirits’ salvation. Victorian London was a somber place in time. It’s my favorite setting for a good haunting. That’s why I wrote The Society of Spirits, a dark tale enrobed by the cold elegance of that era. If you feel yourself drawn to hauntings, historic settings, the autumn season, or mysteries of the paranormal kind, then you’re like me, and I believe you will enjoy The Society of Spirits.

Review – Questioner: An AI/Legal Thriller by Steve C Poser #stevecposer #questioner #netgalley

Amazon / Goodreads

With the advent of artificial intelligence, I have been reading some novels about it. Q is a thoughtprovoking, frightening glimpse into a corporate AI gone rogue. This is one of those things that poses the question, just because we can do something does that mean it would be a good thing to do.

At the end of each chapter, there is a question and there is an answer to the question. Just some food for thought.

We know that artificial intelligence is here to stay. It’s not like you can put it back in Pandora’s Box, but what will our future look like? Can AI learn to be a villain, run rampant, create chaos?

Questioner is Steve C Poser’s debut novel and I think he nailed it. I had wondered how he would draw me in. I love how he described Q as a toddler. There is a learning curve as it grows, and there is a saying, garbage in, garbage out. Does it choose what it wants to learn? Will it follow its creators wishes or become autonomous?

There are suspenseful moments that had me gripping my reader, white knuckled, knowing something wicked this way comes. Then there are moments when someone rises to the occasion, putting themselves in the line of fire for the good of it all. I wasn’t able to anticipate what was coming and that is always a good thing.

My thanks go out to NetGalley and Whiplash for the opportunity to read Questioner by Steve C Poser.

Review – Every Last One by Carolyn Arnold #NetGalley @Carolyn_Arnold #everylastone

Amazon / Goodreads

“Lock the doors, close the blinds. The hospital’s in lockdown. We have a shooter.”

That brought to mind my time in the hospital on an extended stay. There was a patient running through the halls saying, “***k me , ***k me. The nurses came through shutting all the doors. It gives the story a touch of reality.

FBI Special Agent Sandra Vos, a hostage negotiator, is called in to hopefully bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion. She is racing against time for Phoebe, a four year old girl that is scheduled for a heart transplant.

Her boyfriend, Eric Birch, is a detective for the Criminal Investigation Division for the Washington DC police department, and is there to lend a hand. With everything going on around her, Sandra thinks it may be time for her and Eric to take their relationship to the next level.

Carolyn Arnold knows how to set the hook early and keep reeling me in. I have read many of her books and she is always a go to author for me. The danger and suspense increased as the story unfolded in Every Last One. How do you negotiate a surrender when the hostage takers make no demands? Sandra finds out who they are and what she can offer to end the standoff. I had empathy for the hostage takers and I can definitely understand their anger and frustration. But when a line is crossed, the innocent pay a price.

This is a series, but each book can stand alone. The book takes place from 9:50am to 9:15pm.

But with the attackers refusing to make contact and a little girl’s life hanging in the balance, Sandra needs to find the motive, fast.

When a shot rings out, it’s clear the hostage takers are prepared to kill to get what they want. But just when Sandra thinks all is lost, she discovers a link between them that reveals a very personal motive.

Review – The Emotion Collector: Awakening by Richard French #richardfrench #indiepenpress #theemotioncollector

Introduce book and heroine
She collects emotions from others

Amazon / Goodreads

In The Emotional Collector: Awakening by Richard French, we meet Senior Collector Emma Thorne. Emma is the state’s most powerful weapon…until she opens herself up to a four year old’s feelings of love. She has been conditioned to collect feelings, which are considered waste, not to empathize or sympathize. Now she was beginning to question her purpose.

Evan Cross is part of the resistance. These are the kind of characters I find most interesting. They come across as real, fighting against suppression, wearing a white hat. He is immune to the dampening technology. And, of course, anyone that knows me, knows I love a good villain and I was surprised that it was Emma’s mother that surprised me the most.

The state had been updating the dampening technology, increasing the efficiency, causing the planet to die at a faster rate. Emma begins to think that her real purpose was not to destroy the planet, but to save it.

The Emotional Collector made me think of Avatar, how everything was connected. By killing emotions, they were killing the planet.

The state wants to study Emma, and we know what that means…nothing good for her. And…it’s her mother leading the way. She can save the people and the planet, but at what cost to her? Is the Awakening a good thing, or will it doom the planet and everyone on it? Doesn’t really matter because the state had begun Project Terminus and it would permanently cut out human feeling within hours, killing the plane anyway.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from The Emotion Collector, but I loved it. The more characters I met, the more characters there were to love and others to try to understand their motivations. It’s one of those things, just because you can do something, should you?

I love this thought provoking novel. Once I started, I didn’t want to stop. I love novels that surprise me, and I was surprised at the twists and turns that Richard French threw my way.

Review – The Human Hybrid Odyssey: Primitive Dangers by Kimathi Witt, Aaron McDonald & Kawsu Jatta #kimathiwitt #aaronmcdonald #kawsujatta

Amazon / Goodreads

Primitive Dangers by Kimathi Witt, Aaron McDonald and illustrator Kawsu Jatta is the second book in The Human Hybrid Odyssey. It picks up where Book I left off. They made it through the attack of the giant elk and their journey to the kingdom is almost over.

I have found the creatures are intriguing. I don’t think I have read anything quite like The Human Hybrid Odyssey. The dangers rise, the beasts are more brutal. Can they learn to work together? Can they learn to trust each other?

The books are short and easy to read. I found myself gobbling up the words, having to know what comes next. We definitely see the dark side of the world the authors created. The beasts are savage. Are any of their human qualities left? I’m curious how the authors will bring the story to its conclusion.

My thanks go out to Kimathi Witt, Aarona McDonald and Kawsu Jatta for the opportunity to read The Human Hybrid Odyssey.

The hybrids have survived-but the world is only growing more savage.

Deep in the wild, a new era begins as hybrid tribes fracture and ancient powers resurface. Danger lurks in every shadow-primitive beasts, rival factions, and internal divisions threaten to tear them apart from within. What was once instinct is now weaponized. What was once unity is now war.

As trust crumbles and secrets rise from the soil, the journey through deadly terrain becomes a test of loyalty, purpose, and evolution itself. Bonds are broken. Enemies are born. And a deeper, darker truth about their transformation begins to reveal itself.

In Primitive Dangers, Volume 2 of The Human Hybrid Odyssey, the stakes climb higher, the battles grow bloodier, and the line between man and beast fades further into the jungle.

The survival of the hybrid species depends on more than strength-it depends on who they choose to become.

$25 GC & Review – Age Of Magic by Tim Vee @goddessfish @_Tim_Vee_ #ageofmagic

AGE OF MAGIC by Tim Vee

GENRE:  dark fantasy

I have been reading Tim Vee’s novels for some time now. His novels are fresh and original. I never know what to expect and have always been surprised. Age Of Magic is a dark fantasy that travels through time. I quickly became enamored with Zola and Selene and their story.

The action and adventure kept me engrossed in Tim Vee’s magical story. The writing kept the pacing and suspense operating at a high level. He brought the characters to life and their world was created in vivid detail. I loved all the secrets, magic, pirates and deadly beasts. He created many questions, as we traveled through time to reach the end. I had a feeling about the conclusion and I loved it.

My thanks go out to Tim Vee for the opportunity to read another one of his fantastic stories.

EXCERPT

There was movement in the shadows—the sound of a sandal on the dry red bricks. Zola froze, seeing ahead of him a weasely-looking man holding a butcher’s blade stepping into a pool of light. Selene gasped, covering her mouth. Zola’s head snapped to his right, where he saw another man step into a pool of light behind them, holding a rusty meat cleaver.

“Becalm yourself, m’lady,” whispered Zola, releasing her hand and stepping from the shadows into the light.

“Mayhaps I can help you lads with something?” he said confidently, as he turned in a circle and regarded them.

Two more men stepped from the shadows, a new one on either side carrying a wooden club.

“Coin!” hissed the man holding the knife that he jabbed forward menacingly.

“Coin and girl!” said the man with the cleaver. The others laughed darkly and inched forward.

Zola turned to the man with the cleaver. “Mayhaps I would have tossed you a pouch of coppers and silver, to send you scurrying away to your filthy taverns and your filthy wenches, without the need for blood to be spilt.” He pulled back his coat, exposing the bejewelled hilt of his cutlass. “But alas, for you, the girl will be staying with me!”

“Four us, one you!” said the man with the cleaver, chuckling.

“I’ll gladly take those odds…” said Zola grimly, his gold tooth glinting in the moonlight as he drew his bejewelled cutlass.
